Avatar 3D - 9/10

I really enjoyed it, but '3D' is still clearly just a gimmick. Granted, it would've been much better on an IMAX screen. 3D is limited to the size of the screen you watch it on; if it doesn't fill your entire field of vision, the 3D effect is lost quite a bit.

Still fun though! :D

1408 8/10 I really like this movie.

i enjoyed that movie too. i think i'd grade it the same as you did.
it's another cool horror movie based off of a stephen king story. it was very different, and...ORIGINAL...(compared to other hollywood/recent horror crap)...and the movie had a few mind f@cks in it, which are always fun.

also it was damn freaky/clever when the alarm clock went off "we've only just begun..."

Cool movie that I finally got around to watching. We started it at about 10:30 last night and it ended about 2 minutes before midnight. It was cool having all the fireworks from our neighbors sounding like guns and bombs the whole movie, very appropriate. :D

As it ended we switched it to the Times Square countdown on TV right as the ball was going down. Of course we couldn't help but joke about seeing an enormous creature enter the frame and scatter the crowd. :)

There is nothing wrong with seeing bad movies. Heck, we all see them. Even me, sometimes it's unavoidable. But giving movies like Terminator Salvation a 9 out of 10? Don't you think you're being a bit generous there? The director of Charlies Angels? C'mon! If that's the case, according to your level of scoring, a flick like Evictus has to get 30/10! hehe :D

Just rewatched Avatar again today (this time in a regular theater, but still in 3D)... and it popped up to a 10/10!!!

For some reason when I saw it in the IMAX the 3D would split constantly when I watched the movie, which was very distracting. Today (even though on a much smaller screen) the 3D was perfect and the story was much more engrossing.

With a rewatching this just jumped to my #1 movie of the year... I'm amazed how much more I enjoyed it with a 2nd viewing :rock :rock :rock

As long as they make Mila slutty looking in the films, it's worth a cheap seats viewing for me. At that point I forgo quality and just watch 90-120 mins of hot Mila wearing scantily clad outfits. But only worth a cheapy. No way I would spend 10 bucks on that crap!

i think one of the reasons eastwood is such a great director is that the actors that work for him really bring their A game since they know that they'll be done filming in less than a month usually and the actors don't get tired or burned out from dozens of retakes.

Don'r recall what I gave Salvation. I'm thinking a 6 or 7. Definitely one of those films where the actors are better than the story and director allow for. Certainly not the worst in the series but the trailers looked a lot better. Hate all the handheld camera work.

Oh and Rachel McAdams = :drool

Forgot a few I caught the other night:

POTC: At Worlds End 6/10 And I feel nice just giving it that. Such a let down even though DMC was nothing special.

AVP 4/10 There's really only a plot for the half or so of the film. After that it just becomes "how will this person die?". Not as epic as it coulda woulda shoulda been. I do like Sanaa Lathan though.

Alien 10/10 I think that's fair. The scope of th film alongside Giger's designs and Ridley Scotts overal vision make it an unforgettable masterpiece.

Thought that's what you meant.

How many videogame movies are being made these days? Yet, no one's bothered to make the RE games into movies. These other RE movies should have just used another name, and become it's own damn franchise.

And Wentworth Miller as Chris in Afterlife? You've got to be kidding me!

OH...

NO...

YOU....

DIDN'T...

But you did just go there! The movie has decent pacing and some good chemistry between RDJ and Jude Law, I'll give you that, but for Pete's sake, and Pete would remind you that any movie with no huge payoff for such a big name title, cast, and hype, is a rather disappointing flick. Not to mention the fact we all knew we were being setup for a sequel HALF-WAY IN!!! NEVER DO THAT! Even if there is to be continuation to a story, make the movie stand alone as a movie onto itself. Its villain is so predictable, 1 dimensional and boring, that I was more interested in the bigger character they were building up for the sequel, that knowing that, it made the main villain in this particular film, become redundant and irrelevant!

That whole setup was a recipe for disaster.

And the worst thing of it was... the travesty of it all, they didn't bother to show more skin on Rachel McAdams.

Best movie of 2009? *shakes his head*

I don't even know you anymore. I didn't expect you to stoop to this. heh

I still think the original Resident Evil would make a great movie. Chris, Jill, Barry, etc. A "haunted" house full of hidden doorways and puzzles (given all the puzzles couldn't really be in the movie) not to mention zombies, hunters, and the inevitable Tyrant. You could still shoot it dark and creepy enough that even the most avid gameplayer would still get some sense of shock of terror. Then there's Wesker who could be used to give the franchise some feeling of continuity. Even when Chris and Jill aren't i the sequel he could still be seen pulling the Mayor's strings.

Definitely! The sound in some scenes was so awesome!!! Especially in the scenes with the giant Terminator, the Harvester.

That low noice, which that thing produced, which sounds a bit like a foghorn, was so menacing. And the higher more whining noise of the Mototerminators was amazing too!!!! :rock :rock :rock

The picture is fine and Blu Ray really compliments the CGI but what I mean't was, for Blu Ray the transfer wasn't as sharp or crisp as others tend to be. The picture seems more smooth rather than detailed if that makes sense.

Took the kids to AATC: The Squeekuel today. I thought it was a pretty cool movie for what it was...a kid's movie. 7/10 for being able to recommend it for kids.

LOL...one issue that I had with it was the "dutch oven" scene. I have been fighting against toilet humor from my kids (wife is mad because it is my fault the kids are fart-joking every ten minutes) for a week now. And I got "The Look" from the Mrs. during that scene as my kids where enjoying the hell out of it!

I really enjoyed The Lovely Bones 8/10. Don't know why there is so much bad press over this film. I read the book a couple of weeks ago in a 1 day sitting and of course it is deeper and has more characters etc but i think just focusing on Susie's story was a good judgment call in terms of how the film progresses instead of trying to be totally faithful to the book ala Watchman which I have not seen but love the comic.

I hated this movie. It has a couple funny parts but thats it. I wanted to strangle my friend for making me watch it.

I'm sure, however, if I were English I would have gotten the humor and found it funny. But seeing as I am not English, it was a stupid movie that wasted my time in my opinion.

Brothers Bloom 7/10.

Loved the first 3/4 of it. The last quarter went in a gutsy direction, so I can't fault it. But the first 3/4 is pure quirky gold.

It was heartbreaking that the brother died, and that the whole mood went tragic. But I can't fault them for not going for the Hollywood ending. Still, I would have loved to see a happy ending with the three of them (plus the "fifth beatle") becoming super Con Artists, just cos I loved the characters so much.

Someone mentioned 3:10 to Yuma a while back. I LOVED the movie! 9/10! Fantastic!

Avatar- 8.5/10- Hackneyed story but wonderfully executed!

Quantum of Solace- 5/10- It was OK'ish!

Horton Hears a Who- 4/10- Too many 'topical' jokes, but entertaining.

Planet 51- 4/5- The kids liked it, I thought the 'alien' dog was cute and the 50's design was cool.

Hancock- 3/10- A waste of talent.

Not really sure what to make of this movie. I enjoyed it overall, but the story was really loose and the events of the story didn't really play out in a very logical or meaningful way. It was kind of like there were a lot of ideas, but no real thought of how to make them all work together. But on the other hand it looked amazing and wasn't very long :lol

Loved the intense build up of the story, but the ending was so-so.
Travolta's performance was classic antagonism! :)

I knew I liked you for a reason Dekard :D Well imo there is nothing that tops And Justice For All, Dog Day Afternoon and Serpico as Pacino's greatest performances. I loved him in Scarface too. He's also my all time favorite actor.

Goodfellas is my #4 favorite film of all time.

Damn awful movie. I actually liked first remake, not as near as much as original, but I found it entertaining. What he did with Michael Myers in the second remake, in my opinion....unforgivable..

Not true! I love lots of movies. Just good ones.

Having said that, Transformers is a guilty pleasure, but it was never meant to be more than a stupid campy cheesefest of a flick. Many got that on here, other's didn't. What do you expect? It's based on a kid's toy line of the 70's (Diaclone) and 80's (Transformers). The whole premise of alien robots coming to our planet disguising themselves as cars, and electronic gadgets is silly. If it wasn't for the fact I grew up on the stuff or had that nostalgia for the franchise, I could careless for the movies. However I did. Those who hated, expected something more serious, and honestly there is nothing you make serious from that premise. Sometimes you got to work with is given to you.

Right now, my favorite movies seem to be of the indy and foreign variety. Big Hollywood pictures like 2012 just don't do it for me anymore.

Daybreakers - 4/10 - Other than the gore, which wan't great, felt and moved like a TV show. How the vampires become human again was dumb. At least it had a kewl Bandit TA in it . . .

Inglourious Basterds (Bluray) - 9/10 - Finally got a Bluray player and this was the first movie I watched on it. Just as good as it was in the theaters. The movie is awesome in every aspect. Waltz better get a Oscar. Heck, I hope this wins Best Picture Oscar.

Dracula (1931) - 7/10 - Haven't watched this in about 20 years. Still a good early horror movie with great performances by Lugosi, Frye and Sloan. I heard the Spanish version is better, so I may give that a spin.
