AVATAR
Movie plot, fairly familiar, 8/10
Effects, 15/10 UNBELIEVABLE!
Experience, PRICELESS!
Go see it! Best movie of the year by far for me. No comparisons. Nothing in the same league experience-wise to compare it to this year.

AVATAR - 10/10 - I don't give movies a 10 often. There are too many people here that do that to several "geek" movies, but Avatar is not one of those. Saw it at the new AMC IMAX in OKC. The CGI is flawless. Nothing ever put on the screen compares to it. The movement of everything on the screen was amazing. It had a good story that kept you interested. And as I said earlier, it is Pocahontas in space. My wife even enjoyed it, so that says a lot lol.

Cameron is my favorite director: T1 and T2, Aliens, True Lies are all at the top of my lists. The man can not only SHOW you a story, he can tell it. A must see.

Truer words have never been spoken. I was looking at his resume of films he's directed and I have yet to be disappointed. Spielberg was my favorite director, but now that i think back upon it there were some Spielberg films I didn't enjoy too much. So I guess that makes Cameron my new number 1! :lol

I really, really loved this movie. My expectations were not high as I was worried that it would be overhyped... but it really was good. The effects and feel of the film were awesome. The 3D was good, but not really necessary... especially as I had more trouble not getting the split image than in other recent 3D flicks. The story is not all that original, but its still very well done. My only nit that holds it back from 10 is that it seemed a bit long at times... not much, but I think maybe they could have trimmed it a bit and had a tighter film.

But still... well worth seeing :rock :rock :rock

Godzilla Raids Again 4/10

This movie is one of the worst that Toho has done in my opinion. First, I don't know why it is called Godzilla when they never say the name Godzilla at all in this movie. They call him Gigantis for whatever stupid idiotic reason. At least they called Anguirus by it's real name.

I also hated the narration that this movie had. I was annoyed by the guy telling the story and it was corny. This is my second time watching this film and I didn't like it any better than the first watch through.

I really liked this movie. I borrowed it from a friend, liked it, looked everywhere for it and ended up spending like $25.00 used for it. I know it's a lot of money but it's out of print and really hard to find, when I got it it was still wrapped in the packaging so I was stoked. Technically it not a good movie some of the acting is just horrendous but this is a really fun movie with a lot of replay value in my opinion. Also some of the effects are really good, it's amazing what a possessed girl can do with some lipstick. I got it Thursday and I've watched it like three times, so if you can find it I say get it.

Wasn't very good at all. The girls were good looking but that's the only positive in this movie. The movie had no humor or heart. You couldn't get behind any of the characters in the movie. It's understandable why this is a direct to DVD/Blu Ray release. I mean a Stifler gets boned by a Moose in this movie (excuse the language, I don't know how else to describe it). I mean really?? I don't mean to throw a spoiler out there, but this is the type garbage that the screenwriter delivers in this movie...

Have to re-rate Avatar now that I saw it in 3D: 9.5/10. WOW. What a difference. The level of detail that pops out is incredible. Most impressed that it wasn't cheap 3D where only a few objects pop out at you. It's more like the screen came to life. Most impressive and a huge leap forward for this technology. Cameron pushes the envelope again.

I have never seen any after the third. They look like absolute crap to me. The third was funny but definitely the weakest. People should stop watching these so they will stop making bad sequels. They are bad which is why they go straight to DVD.

I know, I want to watch the movie again and will obviously own it on Blu, but it just won't be the same as 3D. I completely bought the world of Pandora in 3D, like I was there (which especially sucks in Minnesota leaving that great world to sub zero temperature hell of reality :( )

I completely lost my ???? when Jake exits hyper sleep and the level of depth it achieved was astounding. I'm going to have to catch this at least one to two more times in 3D while I still can!

Angels and Demons 6/10. Ehh, it was fine. I'm not the least bit precious about the source material so I didn't care about what they changed and condensed from the book. There is one really cool explosion in the movie, though. Very nicely done.

By the way, the book is pretty okay. Much better than the Da Vinci Code. It's a fun read. Nothing earth shattering, but entertaining. My wife read Dan Brown's newest book, the Lost Symbol and said it was absolutely terrible. A&D is the best of the three.

King Kong vs Godzilla 8/10

I love this movie. I watched the hell out of it when I had it on VHS and have seen it over 20 times. It is probably one of my absolute favorite Godzilla films. Probably just due to nostalgia because there have been others that looked better and had more action. I just love how this movie plays out.

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard - 5/10 - Amusing is spots, but overall very weak. Piven was great in Smoking Aces and other supporting rolls, but not as a lead.

Franklyn - 6/10 - Decent flick. The stuff in the "imaginary" world was pretty kewl, the rest pretty bad.

The Hills Run Red - 4/10 - Movie started bad, got better, then got worse and ended meh. Decent bewbs though.

Staunton Hill - 2/10 - Other than some nice gore, the movie is garbage. I cut low budget movies a bit of slack, but this is yet another Texas Chainsaw retread. Expected a bit more from George Romero's son.

Cameron is my favorite director: T1 and T2, Aliens, True Lies are all at the top of my lists. The man can not only SHOW you a story, he can tell it. A must see.

Cameron is by far the most consistent A-list director working today. Seven movies and not one flop? Compare whatever you consider to be Cameron's least film to the worst film directed by Spielberg, Lucas, Jackson, Coppola, Scorsese, Tarantino, etc. Cameron blows them away. Note that I'm not saying that Cameron is the best per se, he's just possibly the only one guaranteed to deliver.

Nolan appears to be working in a similar vein, we'll know for sure after his next 2 or 3 films.

Just watched Quarantine in HD last night - pretty darn good, I was surprised! 7/10 ... it started out higher, but lost some points due to showing the final shot in the trailers/posters, which was so dumb, as I guessed that was the final shot about halfway through the movie :(

But still, great for what it was - I enjoyed it about 1000 times more than Cloverfield. And the makeup effects were fantastic! That rat :horror

Very good movie, but I have to admit the slight goofiness of the aliens kept me from being as emotionally invested as I should have been. Whenever the aliens themselves were onscreen I kept expecting Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones to pop up. Overall I liked it but it could have been better. The casting was really good though, except for BDH who I just can't stand. Didn't care for the majority of the film being shot handheld/shakey cam, I get what he was going for but man was it overdone.

Avatar - 9/10. Visually stunning. I'm usually a story guy first, special effects guy second, but this is an instance where I put the special effects/visuals before the story, which was pretty good to begin with.

The Sweetest Thing - 1/10. It was on cable last night and I was actually cringing watching it. Does Cameron Diaz have to sing and dance in every movie? I watched 20 minutes of it and had to shut it off.

Yeah i'd also give Diaz's entire career the same rating. Aside from her in The Mask with Jim Carrey she's always looked and sounded like a troll.

Tried too hard, had a couple of moments of brilliance but the rest was way overdone. I appreciate what it tried to do though, so it's still better than that GI JOE movie ;)

(the reason why I compare the 2 is because I don't usually give films low grades - I can usually find something redeeming about them - this and the Rise of Cobra are my 2 lowest rated of the year, I think)

Enjoyable, but similar to the first Family Guy Star Wars treatment it tends to follow the movie too closely and ends up being less funny that their regular episodes.

the ouija board bursting into flames and the ending were really goofy.

Dusty I love your choice of movies, they are great! I went to see "Up in the Air" due to your recommendation.

6 out of 10

Great writing, directing, and the characters seemed interesting. Heck, the acting was superb, I even found myself enjoying George Clooney's acting! A first! Having said that, I didn't care for the story or the ending. I guess not all movies are meant to have the kind of endings we want. With no big pay off in the end, and the predictability of it all, I felt this film was very close to a Sherlock Holmes and the last Harry Potter. A movie about pretty much nothing.

See, I totally disagree. It's about life and learning to live with the choices you have made. Much more powerful than a cop-out "happy" ending.

Do you like Seinfield?

Anyway, on to my latest rating...

Star Trek on BluRay - 9.5/10; nearly perfect! That movie is so well put together, it's amazing. Great editing, and just the perfect amount of 'cheese'. I have some slight nit-picks (how many times in one day can Kirk get choked? It was like a joke... see I told you they were slight :lol)

I think this will become like Spiderman where it ends up wowing people with CGI and then in 5 years they'll realise the story isn't as solid as they thought.
