Well I watched the theatrical version. Should I have watched the Directors Cut instead?

The most prominent thing in the Final Cut is the missing voice over bs, which the producers made Scott put in to "explain" things. Also the ending is different. Should you choose to watch it again definitely see the FC version. Like ObsoleteMan said it's the definitive version.

Thought Godzilla Tokyo SOS was pretty good. What are you most recommended Godzilla movies? The first one ofcourse is brilliant, but what other entries did you enjoy?

Yeah, the first is amazing. I really don't have favorites after that... although 1985 always holds a special place. I just love that even though the new ones look much nicer... they really don't deviate from the old formula :rock

Assault on Precinct 13 6/10
Fun movie, one I've heard of but never actually got around to watching.

Mutant Chronicles 6/10
Enjoyable, but also had a very SciFi movie feel to it. Story was good and the atmosphere was well done. Didn't really care for the design of the mutants, they were kind of lame.

Same with me. I didn't find anything overly appealing about the film. It also wasn't bad either.

I just find the characters alot cooler in Aliens.

I asked if you both like Alien because somehow although there both not the exact same genre somehow ( probably because of Ridley's directing ) I've always found the atmosphere of them both the same almost.

There is no question that the atmosphere of Alien is similar to Blade Runner. As is the pacing.

Aliens is hard to compare with Alien since they are vastly different films. Both are simply fantastic though. I will die happy when Alien and Aliens come out in Blu-ray.

TheShawShank Redemption deserved "Best Picture" of 2004. Not Forrest Gump, but it is a great movie. Just no ShawShank.

What do the Oscars know? They give Marisa Tomei a Oscar for my Cousin Vinny and screwed Daniel Day Lewis out of an Oscar for his performance of the Butcher in Gangs of New York.

This is 100% correct. The Academy Awards although usually similar to my picks does have alot of politics too. You check almost any "top 100 best all time movies" list and The Shawshank Redemption usually owns all. I'm not talking about those lists made by 90 year old grampa committees either.

Decent movie, but if not for the heavily used SW references and sounds it wouldn't have been much fun. The story itself is fairly basic and the acting/comedy is so-so. But all the little sound effects and nods to SW and other SciFi make it worth the watch.

OMG, how awful was that movie, shall I count the ways!

Proof, as if t'were needed that CGI does not a great story make... I knew what to expect, what with it being directed by Roland Emmerich, but he out did himself, truly dreadful. I hope John Cusack is hanging his head in shame, and as for Woody Harrelson... cheez.
At least there were some laugh out loud moments (without giving too much away I'll just say: Geoge Segal's phone call to his son... and the President in front of the Whitehouse, these moments were pure comedy genius, with lashings of cheese on top!).
I went with two friends who liked TDAT (I hasten to add I didn't), but even they were laughing about it afterwards!

9/10. much more intelligent than i expected. more consciously postmodern than i expected but not as a gimmicky artifice simply re-using elements from previous eras, but that actually make the entire movie. i mean for chrissake, the main plot revolves around how to use film to kill nazis, or, to open up new dimensions in history to gain a new perspective. so if men like aldo, hans, little man, jew bear, hugo, all of em, if they all actually existed then what happened in the movie is only logical. too bad people like them don't.

To be fair, I know my wife will love it! She loved TDAT where as I just endured it. Like wise she likes M. Night Shyamalan movies and I find myself wanting to pluck my own eyes out and lobotomise myself.
Horses for courses.
But movies like 2012 have so much potential and are just wasted (IMHO) under layers of cheese, when dealing with cataclysmic events I expect some sentiment, it is after all the human condition and our reaction to these events that lies at the heart of the story, but this was so heavy handed when a light touch would do!

Funnily enough one ot the friends I saw 2012 with is a big Shyamalan fan, I was saying how much I disliked most of his work but that Kate (my wife) loved it, and he offered to lend me The Happening as she hadn't seen it, I took him up on the offer, but I might arrange to be out the night she watches it. The only movie he's made that I enjoyed was Signs. I sat through Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, The Village and Lady in The Water... I will never get that time back... ever!

Watched GI Joe last night. I give it a 6 out of 10. I was entertained. Honestly if you liked this or Transformers 2 I can't see how you could say anything about liking one and not the other. They seemed like equal movies in my opinion. Both just entertaining. Damn the baroness was hot too! WOW!

Boondock Saints II - doesn't belong in the move theater and not a worthy sequel. Somewhere in this is a decent movie, but it needs some serious editing. Lots of unnecessary flash forwards and flash backs. Having said that, it's very funny. 3/5

2012 - plenty of destruction, but you will not give a d*mn who dies. Spectacular effects. 3/5

Blood Last Vampire - it's ok, but kind of boring. Didn't care for the animated movie either. 2/5

The Proposition - excellent western 4/5

Star Wars The Clone Wars S1 - out of 22 episodes, there's maybe 2 I don't care for. Well worth your time. 4/5

Great double bill last week on T.C.M . "The Omega Man" ( still makes "I Am Legend " look like the hollow vanity project it was ) , followed by "Dark City" , a criminally under-rated genuinely original S.F movie . Dumb people, boring zombies, no laughs or scares = crap zombie movie. It was just: a zombie appears, someone hits it. Another zombie appears, someone else hits it; no suspense whatsoever. The scene in the lab was absolutely pointless! I mean, what happened with the zombies there? And the ending is one of the worst I've seen, terrible!

My Name is Bruce 6/10
Not a great movie, by any stretch of the imagination. But I always enjoy Bruce Campbell and it was a pretty decent job of spoofing him and his B movie career. Probably not for everyone, but if you like The Bruce you'll probably enjoy it.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (BBC Series) 6/10
Never saw this before, but much preferred it to the weakass movie we got a few years ago.

Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story 4/10
Never knew there was a comedy about paintball; had a surprisingly good cast... but was fairly uninspired and one I would recommend not bothering with.

Muppets Take Manhattan 5/10
Man did I love this movie when I was a kid, just goes to show children are dumb :lol Still fun to watch, but don't think the Muppets should have been made into movies; the original show is just soooo much better.

Monster Camp 7/10
Really fun documentary about LARPing. Some interesting people and a cool view of what is undeinably about the nerdiest hobby out there. My action figure collection never looked so normal and mainstream than after watching this flick :lol

American Zombie 6/10
An interesting idea for a zombie mockumentary, but ultimately doesn't quite live up to the potential.

Nah, I think he's a cool guy. Nothing wrong with making fun. Heck, I take a lot of it on, so what goes around comes around. I am sure he understands I mean nothing personal by it.

psssst He likes bad movies though. Just saying.

Dusty knows crappy movies, yet she goes in seeing them knowing damn well what she's getting herself into. Fo shame!

Man, it's such a dry spell for movies.

btw I saw The Stepfather with a friend of mine because we were desperate for a flick to see at midnight at the cheapees... 4 out of 10. Been there, done it. Didn't like it.

Actually, thinking about it, the cgi wasn't that good either. I should have given it a 0 :lol

The film fails even at the most basic level of at least being entertaining, so if you're going just for that you'll both still walk away disappointed.

Wow, I'm amazed at how bad this sounds... so not even worth it for the "so bad its good" effect? Well, maybe the wife will forget and I can dodge a bullet. We were planning to go tonight, but we have too much stuff to do... so maybe this movie will disappear in the mean time.

I still prefer the original, but the remake was almost as good and is definately one of the best remakes to date and my second favorite zombie movie.

Last movie I saw was The Fog (original) 8.5/10

I love the original and remake of Dawn of the Dead just the same. The original is brutal and the remake is so cool. And John Carpnter's The Fog is awsome.

The Road - It's OK. I've read the book a few times and that may have impaired my judgement. Grade C

Ninja Assassin's - Story is on the dull side, but there are limbs and oceans of blood. I'm pretty sure I'll pick this up on blu-ray in the future. A for blood, action, anf gore. C for the story and acting. Grade B-.

Star Trek ('09) - 7.5/10

It's a pretty, well very pretty, movie but the story was just okay.

Didn't care for the way the ice planet tied EVERYTHING together. Not only is Kirk marrooned there, but also old Spock and who else? Scotty! Oh and Scotty just happens to have a transporter he's built. WTF!

The throwback to #6 with the simulator was cool and the redshirt being the only one to die when he Kirk and Zulu go out. :lol

Too bad this film didn't do well. It was a great throwback to the late 30s and 40s, and was a lot of fun. Not to mention groundbreaking for its time.

Couples Retreat - 6/10 - Amusing in spots and predictable.

New Moon - 4/10 - Well, it's better than the first, but that isn't saying much. Michael Sheen was the only person that could act. The wolves looked awful.

Apocalypse Now Redux - 10/10 - A all around masterpiece.
