Hahaha! yea, that kid was the little biitch of the movie..always getting yelled at.You could tell that character was probally a tad inspired from the little dirty kid that had a boomerang and grunted at everything in Mad Max:The Road Warrior.

The Invention of Lying.

Much better than the advertising campaign lets on. 7.5/10

There's a twist half way through when the movie becomes about something else entirely.

Like the futuristic world of Star Trek, Gervais' world without lying is a world without religion. In essence it's the story of the man who invents religion.

Diary of the Dead 7/10 - I enjoyed this film, it was something different, even if the acting was pretty bad.

Salo - underrated right now - I am not sure how to rate this film yet, it is interesting boring at times and crazy at others. I read the book which was much much more disturbing and graphic. I don't like that Pasolini changed the time period from what the book was.

For me, I think this New Line Cinema + Michael Bay remake stuff really smoothes out the rough edges the originals had. I wasn't alive in the 70's so to me the original didn't scare me at all. Nor did Leatherface. But the remake was down right scary as hell at least the first time seeing it. And Franklin has got to be the most annoying character ever. :lol

For me originals will always have there place and mark. And IMO I always thought that Halloween was the only non-remakable classic. There wasn't anything I'd change, I thought it was perfect. But I always felt the other classics could be re-done because I didn't think they were perfect. Just look at The Hills Have Eyes, the remake was way better imo. That was probably the best remake in terms of exactly how much better it was to the original.

Shatterer of Dreams
10-08-2009, 09:17 AM
i honestly think it's a generational thing because i don't really like any of the remakes. the originals depended more on atmosphere than straight up gore/horror and that is always more interesting because my mind can scare me more then someone else's.

The thing that i've noticed is that younger people like the remakes better than the originals - there are exceptions to this rule, i am aware of that.

Actually I agree with you on the Hills movie, the remake was remarkable. TCM (1974) did not need a remake in any way shape or form. The way it began, the expressions on even the insignificant suporting cast members and how it ended. DAMN EERIE! Perfect. The remake was good, just not better than the original good. Thats all.

Yeah, see, I was raised on horror. My mom is a horror junkie. :lol I grew up on Jason, Freddy, Michael and Leatherface. The Exorcist scared the crap out of me, that was the first movie to do me in that badly. I wasn't even supposed to watch it but I snuck down and sat on the stairs watching it play in the living room. And I guess I am young (22) but I don't hate the originals, I'm just very open to the remakes and tend to lean that way. They are all great though. Originals and remakes :D

Shatterer of Dreams
10-08-2009, 10:00 AM
yeah i saw the Exorcist as a young child myself and that's what probably ruined horror for me. i have not been scared like that since, and much to my own chagrin, never will be again.

I don't hate remakes, i'm not one of those guys that's all "damn hollywood and it's lack of imagiantion" i mean the idea of "remakes" has been around longer than hollywood has - the theater is a remake machine. I just have yet to see horror remake that surpasses the original - except The Thing and that was the early 80's.

Towelhead - Hmmm very weird movie. It is about a young girl who's father is from Lebanon and mother is from America. I don't really understand the title of the movie except for the fact that a young boy decides to call her that. The father is supposed to be middle eastern and talks more like a 1950's American movie actor. I think that was the point though as he was trying to fit in. Either way what a weird damn movie. The girl basically gets raped by two face. She has no parents that direct her and it just ends up even weirder. BUT I still liked the movie. I liked the dads character, but the abuse was horrible. I thought he was going to woop her into shape but not in that way. What a ^^^^! I felt that the girl actress did a very good job. She was so silent yet sexy all at the same time. She was doing this on purpose. What a weird movie though. If I had quick access to my Sam Jackson gif I would so post it. :lol

Towelhead is an offensive word used to describe someone of arab descent. It derives from the turban/Headdress that some Arabs wear
in the Middle east.

Yeah, I gave it around an 8 just because it was a fun movie. It's one of those ones you could always pop in if bored and hanging out with friends. While I wound't give it a full 10/10, I do give it an 8/10 and I do agree, it is a pretty good horror and is a worthy remake of the F13 series. I don't get all the hate for it really. It has all the same elements that mades it's predecessors fun to watch (gore, cool kills and "stupendous" boobies) and is basically your standard F13 movie and it's a hell of alot better than Jason in Space aka Jason X.

Trick R' Treat...... 7/10 Good Movie.

No place in my area (best buy, Target, FYE etc) has this. I've been wanting to see this for the last 2 or so years and the have it on On Demand so I think I'll rent it.

Back on topic, last movie I saw was Children of the Corn (09) 6.5/10.

I'm currently watching The Hitcher (remake) 7/10. I know alot of people despise this film especially since it was only 20 years old when they remade it but I actually really like this one. While Sean Bean's hitcher isn't as creepy as Ruger Hauer's, I must confess I find Bean's portrayal more menacing. Plus Sophia Bush is smoking hot.

Death Proof 10/10. Tarantino's best dialogue ever, and his rawest violence too. The man has become a master of turning junk into art.

I alos got to see Night of the Living Dead (1991), Dawn of the Dead (1978), and Day of the Dead (1985) at a local cinema on Sunday. $10 for three big-screen zombie films (with free soda and popcorn) is a damn fine way to end a weekend. Dawn is my favorite, but I'd never seen Day, and even though a few of the actors could have used a slap or ten, it had the best gore. Savini at his best.

Salo - underrated right now - I am not sure how to rate this film yet, it is interesting boring at times and crazy at others. I read the book which was much much more disturbing and graphic. I don't like that Pasolini changed the time period from what the book was.

Is this the one based on Marquis de Sade's 120 Days of Sodom?

100% agreed. Give it another 10 years and it'll be right up there with any other Pacino/Deniro true classic.

I remember WAY back in the day being at Blockbuster when they opened their doors to get the first copy on VHS. It was a massive two tape set. I was in heaven. :D

While Drag Me to Hell is purely amazing in almost all aspects, Zombieland...well has Zombies so that is what pushes it over the edge. Plus Woody is just amazing.

Fun movie, although I was having trouble keeping people straight in my mind from the first movies (haven't seen them in years) so I was confused for a bit. But enjoyable overall, just nothing stellar.

BTW, anyone more familiar know why the werewolves and vampires seem to die so easily? I assumed the knights working for the Vampires were also Vampires and seemed like one slash or a sword, or bite from a Werewolf would do it... kind of odd to me.

Or it is realistic and every other movie was just over the top and unrealistic. :)

Finished Arrested Development. WOW, just WOW. Some of the greatest characters and writing I've ever seen on television. I will never be able to hear "The Final Countdown" without seeing Gob dancing and doing his magic tricks in my head ever again. The final episode was great and leaves me wanting the promised movie REALLY bad. The entire cast was great and you can't really single anyone out as the best. They all played off each other beautifully and not one person to me stood out above the rest, which is odd.

Anyway, I give the entire series a 10/10. Strongly recommend to anyone who loves eccentric characters with sharp dialogue.
