Don't make me bring out the I-rex comparison again.

Just watched Thor Ragnarok again. A shameless 8/10 from me. I have some issues with it but it's just too entertaining for those to weigh it down...well, at least not by more than 2 points.

Digital for that doesn't come out until Feb. 20... Did you torrent it? :monkey3

Only the Brave - 8/10

I watched this blind pretty much. I had an idea that it was based on a real event but I didn't know how it would go.

I presumed someone would die and it'd be tragic but holy Christ.

It's the kind of thing you cannot do in a work of fiction -> killing everyone after making you spend so much of the runtime watching their lives and going into detail that won't have pay-off <- because it can seem like a smack in the face - but this being a true story - harsh, harsh reality. The film did a good job of depicting such sudden, huge loss and giving the viewer even an inkling of what it feels like for those left behind.

Baby Driver 4/10

Entertaining enough, but why the hell this movie focuses on that boring uncharismatic twit of a character instead of, seriously, ANY of the other characters is beyond me. The high-calibre acting of the supporting actors just amplifies how lame "Baby" is by comparison.

The only reason to watch this is for Jon Hamm and Lily James. You will root for them,
and you will end up hating "Baby" Ansel Elgort (that's not a name, it's a bad scrabble hand)by the end of it.

Every 5 minutes you have another character pointing out how unique and interesting and talented and quirky "Baby" is. Or telling us how he's a good kid, or that his heart isn't in the game. This is because "Baby" himself is expressionless, and bland as hell. He could have been replaced with a bag of flour wearing sunglasses for most of the movie.

I seriously hate this actor now, and it's the only thing I've seen him in.

Although, this movie has helped me figure out who I would cast as Bruce Wayne to match my dream casting of Eddie Redmayne as The Joker.
Jon Hamm. Somebody write some letters, this would totally work. I'm picturing a Neal Adams-ey universe.

You take all that back. BABY DRIVER was fantastic. https://media.giphy.com/media/l1J9zb5UOsd5piv3G/giphy.gif

The 15:17 to Paris 3/10 terrible acting by the child actors especially in the first half.I know you wanted to use the real people but they were not much better adult actors then the children and their dialog throughout was lame and uninteresting.. just to get to the 1min19seconds of heroism.AND THEN you left out the fist real hero in the film who fights and gets shot. And was not included in the Honor's by the French.Clint you made a true story basically suck big time.

I enjoyed this one. Rollins' character was very unusual in how he played it. I don't recall ever seeing a character in film or television you behaved like he did in this movie. Story in itself wasn't that strange, since I'm familiar with preacher that handles similar subject matter. But this was fun and well done.

I like the first one, but this sequel was so predictable....I saw the "twist" like an hour before it happened. I wasn't expecting a lot of action, so a good story is necessary, but nope, a better filmmaker would have told that same predictable obvious story in less time. What a let down. At least it doesn't hurt the first film.

Also, Leto sucked balls again. Doing a bad Agent Smith impression and the script didn't help with all the crap he was saying....zzzz.

Yeah out of all the performances hers and Goslings were my favorite. Just too long for you other than that? Or did you have problems with the story? I think a lot of people get hung up on the “twist” when that’s really not all that important in the grand scheme.

I don't mind the running time, and I was never falling asleep or anything like that because I was waiting for the film to surprise me...I guess. But it never happened. It's like I was one step ahead of the story, and that's never fun. When they first introduce the idea that he might be "the one", I thought it was kind of obvious, but I felt that couldn't be true, so when Gosling visits the dream woman, I knew what was coming.

Besides that, the rest of the story is a guy trying to solve a mystery (that isn't much of a mystery) and the villains trying to find the special child, but I didn't think the story did enough with the "villains" by giving them some strong memorable scenes, and they're never really even close to figuring out the truth that I as a viewer already predicted, so the whole story just isn't very compelling.

As far as the ideas in the story, regarding Gosling's character, Joi, and replicants in general, that's fine, but I feel like all that has been done already in the first film, and it didn't take 3 hours.

On a side note, why didn't the female villain kill Gosling? Why just leave him alive?

Sounds like you enjoyed a lot, I can see your point about not giving the villains enough to do, which doesn’t bother me as much because we got that Deckard/Wallace scene which was fantastic and filled that void. I do think they gave Luv quite a lot to do, and she was excellent on screen. Always deadly and just barely one step behind K.

I too saw the twists coming (all but the first, where you learn he is a replicant in the beginning) but I loved the journey to K’s moment on those steps. The first film did a lot of this, but 2049 does it much better IMO.

Regarding your question, she probably thought he was dead, he was blown up, stabbed twice etc. That, and she let her ego get ahead of her. I really liked how K literally drowns Luv.

Why did Wallace want to learn how to make replicants that can reproduce? Wouldn't that hurt his business if replicants are no longer seen as labor slaves and accepted as humans? Also, they wouldn't need a company to make them if they can create life.

You're assuming Wallace/Earth would let replicants breed without control. Wallace pretty much outright said why he needs more replicants. To find and build more off-world colonies. Something few, like himself, would even have the resources to consider such a thing.

His Ego is huge as well, and Tyrell who came 30 years before him cracked the trick and he can't. He's desperate to be just as good.

Hard to tell, they're very different.
Third one is pretty much Pitch Black that is all about Riddick.
It references a lot of stuff but does it right and it feels natural, unlike crap in TDKR.

It's interesting. The additions are not horrible but I do agree that the Theatrical version is better, but it's possible that it's because I saw it first. If I had seen the Director's cut first I may like that better and feel the Theatrical version as "omitting" a lot of details.

But what does that have to do with being or not right for the part?

The difference is that without him it'd go straight to video, which wouldn't be unfitting since there's really nothing special in this franchise.

Collateral is much much better.

Die Hard 2:.... 7 out of 10- Fun follow up to the perfect (10 out of 10) first Die Hard. It's only let down by some of the acting and the stupid motivation of the bad guys. I find it very hard to believe that such a large number (40-50?) of US soldiers would turn traitor for some rich drug dealer and a life on the run in exile.

I haven't watched the unedited version in quite some time until recently, the edited TV version gets the same rating, only for the incredibly funny swear word edits.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

I like this one a lot. Without spoiling anything, one scene - which is my favorite scene-
is straight out off the cover of Spider - Man issue # 33.

Plenty of action, great dialogue, and it sounded like how teenagers today would
actually talk, too. Robert Downey jr. added to the film but didn't take it over.

Harry Potter - Deathly Hallows Part 2

Probably is my favorite of all the Harry Potter films. It brings the movie series to a close.
I'd read the book a few years before this movie came out, but I enjoy both the HP books

action and great dialogue.

There's a few horror films I hold in high regard, especially The Fly 86', but I think Thing is arguably the best horror film ever. It did so many things right. The directing, the location, the effects, the writing, all of it.

Maybe it's because I read the books as a kid. Granted, I wasn't expecting a direct adaptation of the books or anything. The posters made it look like a fun popcorn flick, but what I got felt like a glorified Nickelodeon cartoon... Zero suspense, limited screen time for the monsters with bad CGI, and wooden acting from the protagonist characters.

How I generally go about rating movies:

10/10 - Masterpiece, everything is perfect from start to finish (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Men in Black, Jurassic Park)

9/10 - Masterpiece, but short by a hair (Pumpkinhead, The Avengers, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Batman Begins)

8/10 - Really good with some minor shortcomings (Thor, Men in Black 3, The Dark Knight)

7/10 - Overall good but noticeably lacking at times (Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Dark Knight Rises, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales)

6/10 - Mediocre; the faults and merits are near equal on both ends (Men in Black II, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Doctor Strange)

5/10 - Slightly below average, overall wasted opportunity (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story)

4/10 - Garbage; the bad far outweighs the good (Star Wars: The Last Jedi)

3/10 - Hot garbage; the redeeming qualities are very few and far between (Scary Movie 4)

2/10 - Mega garbage; almost no redeeming qualities (Suicide Squad)

1/10 - Should've never been made (Rob Zombie's Halloween)

I like some things about this movie a lot. I thought the acting was fantastic, and some of the scenes were really great. Great villain of course. I also like how it turned a lot of conventions on their head. But there was a lot of Fairly generic typical Marvel stuff in there too, and the CG in the last fight scene is so bad as to make me forget a lot of what was good before hand. How the heck did they make something that looks so cheesy and dated? It made some of the CG from the recent Warner Brothers DC movies look good by comparison.

0/10 - Worst movie ever; there are no redeeming qualities (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones)

You mean you didn't like the unneeded, like forty minute intro of young Mikey growing up in the mental hospital? Rob Zombie is a ****ing bore.

Alien - Director's Cut

What can I say? The classics never get old. I don't normally rate
movies, but this is a 10/10. The two extra minutes in this movie is
where Ripley finds a still living Dallas and an apparently dead Brett
cocooned up, and in the process of being turned into eggs that will
have face huggers in them. If you looked up this theory on YouTube
or Google, you know what I'm talking about - in the absence of a
Queen to lay eggs, a Xenomorph can create an egg themselves.

One thing that is a mystery to me - Why are there Purina logos on
all the doors of the Nostromo? ;)

Blade Runner 1982 4K ULTRA HD HDR The Final Cut.Well I hate this cut mainly because I'M a fan of the Original 82 Theatrical Version which had none of the Unicorn crap in it.And Ridley Scott actually extended this sequence with original footage to make it the way he actually intended,YUK'.
BUT I have to say I have never seen Blade Runner like this before.Hard to explain how different the quality is in this version. It is breathtaking and I don't say this lightly.Just the Eye at the beginning of the film and the reflection lets you know immediately that this is going to be a new experience with this film. And it is brilliant far superior to Blu-Ray which you also receive in this 4 disc set.Along with Int version and 1 other version.SOUND,well crank it up because you can choose Dolby Atmos and my up firing speakers really had a chance to blow mind.My SVS PB16 sub loved every minute of it.They completely re-did the sound and it's incredible.
This set is way worth getting if you can run 4K.Even though after viewing the 4K you will probably never watch any of the other versions ever again. There is a cool documentary in this set but sadly it is only DVD quality?WHY?

Mother!: 7/10
It was an incredibly frustrating movie to watch. JLaw was always freaking out about what was happening and you were just as confused as she was. Then around the last third of the movie it all comes together and you understand what's going on. Very interesting overall, but I actually do wish I knew what the movie was really about before I watched it instead of discovering the meaning on my own towards the end. The "revelation" (even though there isn't a "gotcha" moment or anything) isn't adding anything to the experience. It's not a "twist" per se, like Sixth Sense or Usual Suspects. But I actually think the overall viewing would be more fulfilling if you knew the hook before hand so you can just enjoy watching it all unfold.

I had heard this movie was awful. It was kinda cheesy, but I liked it.
It got only one star. It cost 30 million to make, and it only earned 14.8 million back.
I stayed up way later than I should have to watch this, as I had to get up early the
next morning, but I'm still glad I saw it. It was less of a sci-fi movie than I would
have liked it to be, and more of a romance. At least there were no icebergs in it. :)

I'd rather get face raped by a facehugger and get my chest ripped open than the slow and probable agonizing process of being the nutrition of an egg.

That scene shouldn't of been cut, but again I understand it since it was a pacing choice.

Thor: Ragnarok -- 6.5/10

I didn't like 80% of the jokes because they felt forced or too slapstick and wish we could have gotten a true Planet Hulk film instead of using it as a beat in the plot. There were some great moments here and there though, and Hela was fantastic throughout.

Baby Driver -- 6/10

Loved the music and how they incorporated it into the film. Jon Hamm was awesome, and Eiza González was yummy. Overall though, I didn't like it enough to understand why a lot of people were going nuts for it. The ending was stupid and I didn't like the main kid. There were some weird character bits in it at the end that didn't make sense--just there to keep the movie headed toward the **** ending. Oh, and Jamie Foxx's character was ridiculous. I thought that you hated DC. :dunno

unless you’re not a fan of CW either?

BvS and CW are the same movie in their respective universe, more or less, and I'm not really a fan of either film (both are 5.5/10 for me). Friends and I were having a marathon last night and they made me choose between BvS and RO - I chose BvS because at least Affleck is entertaining in it, whereas RO is just a two hour waste of time.

I don't hate DC by any stretch, I enjoy all three of Nolan's Batman films immensely - but most of the DCEU falls flat for me with their frequent attempts to copy the whole "universe-building" formula because they think it works for Marvel so well.
