Blair Witch. 5.5/10

The Witch is good. It's the kind of horror I like these days. Yes it's pace is slower than most would like but it's deliberate and helps with building intensity. Writing and acting I thought was good. I'll be watching it again very soon and I'll grade it at that time.

I enjoy the found footage style movies, I just didn't think Blair Witch offered anything over the original. Plus, I believed in the characters in the original, whereas in Blair Witch, I really felt like they were "acting".

If you can enjoy slow movies then I think you will.

I had people walk out of my screenings it was so slow, but it's a nice Blader Runner-like pace.

This is accurate.....

I had a guy walk out of BR2049 also

1922 (6/10)Great acting, some genuinely creepy bits.

I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives In The House (2/10 I got so bored, I couldn't finish it)

Blackcoat's Daughter (6/10) Pretty good. Has a very late 70's horror vibe. I thought it had a very Canadian horror flavour to it, like "The Brood" or "Black Christmas", which is hilarious, because I researched it later, and found out it WAS filmed in Canada....

My Canuck sense was tingling.

An all time classic, of course. I had not seen it in many years, however, and was a bit struck by some of the amateurish acting. That's about the only criticism I would levy, though. Some truly brilliant filmmaking considering the time and resources. It even has one of the most recognizable soundtracks of all time, created by the director no less! Strange to think that we almost had a guy in a clown mask instead of what we got.

^Nica that's too easy.

Mother - 6/10 I think I get the outrage of some people, if you are a religious person, because while it is an interesting approach to the story, the themes are little more than trite and shallow notions a la facebook/9gag "2deep4you" memes; humans are pollution, mother earth is suffering because of us, god is a psychopath, which implies he understands him so he can draw that judgment and so on...

Other than all of those clichés, it's interesting to see the story represented in this way, would've been much more interesting if Jlaw was Lucifer or something.

The cinematography is really nice to see, great camera and sound work.

Why do you like The Witch so much? It's not scary, the pace is super slow, and the ending wasn't even great.

After hearing sooooo many good things about the film, I was very disappointed by it. For a second I thought I got the wrong movie. It's easily the most overrated film I've seen since the Blair Witch Project, but at least that one tried to be original.

The Witch is basically an M Night Shyamalan film, without the twist ending, but just as boring with the same over dramatic acting. A sequel could be interesting, but I won't be watching it.

It did have a twist though.

The main protagonist actually turned out to be the title villain. And she was hidden in plain sight on the poster all along. The entire movie is basically an origin story for a villainous character, not unlike something that George Lucas attempted and failed spectacularly at.

But otherwise I was just messing with you.:) Like BR and BR 2049 The VVitch isn't for everyone. And those who don't love it tend to hate it.

Yes a few of us were commenting on how idiotic it was to put Black Phillip on the cover when the blu-ray first came out. A real bone-headed move especially since hardly anyone actually saw the movie in the theaters and would have had no inclination to assume he had greater significance beforehand.

I didn't know that. Both covers have the "villain" on it, but having the goat on it is a bit more obvious.

I had no knowledge of the story or the characters, and I didn't think much of the goat dvd cover either, other than it reminded me of Slipknot's IOWA album cover, which had a black goat on it, which they probably use as a symbol of evil...if I had to guess.

Lots of CGI and cheap laughs.
Pretty much like Bayformers but with much less action and slow-mo.

Was there anything you liked about it?
Doc Stranges' cameo (even tho it didn't make sense).
Hela' big fight scene in the first act (even tho it didn't make sense).
Thor vs Hulk fight (even tho it was a bit too short and emotionless).
Loki's character is on point (even tho he could use his powers much more).
Urban looked great as Skurge (even tho his character is garbage in this movie).

Snake Plissken

Found footage really is an art, and everything since that film has been lousy.

Paranormal Activity was just an Ikea commercial with moving chandeliers.

The Blair Witch sequel that came out a year or so ago was garbage, which saddened me since I thought it could of been a classic but it had all the subtlety of a freight train crashing into an airliner.

GasparZizou

Hey now, Cloverfield is awesome, also, Chronicle.

Also, VHS is nice, it's like creepy pastas in movie form.

I think PA1 was ok, but it was too low effort as well, I'd give it a 5.

I never saw the remake, looked bland.

Also, if you haven't watch Borderlands and Noroi, top notch found footage.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that, when I watched it for the first time since release a few years back, it scared me ****less. It does an excellent job of simulating isolation and dread; more than any other movie in the found footage genre that I've seen, in my opinion.

I enjoyed Paranormal Activity and the series as a whole is a guilty pleasure of mine (I've seen them all). Noroi: The Curse, REC 1 & 2 and Cloverfield were all great found footage movies as well. Chronicle was a lot of fun, too. It isn't for everyone but I have a soft spot for genre.

Evil Dead II ain't holding up why? Effects?

The Thing rating is what it should be. By a huge margin was it Carpenter's best work. I tend to like watching it during the Winter time for obvious reasons.

The campy nature of EVII is still fantastic, and Bruce is awesome as the clown in distress....

But the effects are terrible to behold now. It’s been about 7 years since I last watched it.....but honestly it looks like a high school production now....

Amazing how seeing years of effect advancement can do to the eyes..... I remember thinking they were pretty good at the time

Example : the daughter get sprayed with the guys blood from the basement monster ....she backs away from the basement and is totally dry....just laughable.

Raw. Not really good at ratings so 8/10. The minus 2 was because of how uncomfortable it was but I commend that because of its intention. Really enjoyed the film.

I enjoyed it more this time around (this is my second viewing). Michael Keaton was on point and I can't wait to see Gargan's character fleshed out in the sequel. I still prefer the Raimi films (yes, even the third one) over this, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable flick nonetheless.

Halloween III was actually my first Halloween movie so I wasn't partial to the Michael Myers character going into it. I watched it with my father when I was very young and I've loved it ever since. The scene where the trademark "misfires" and melts the woman's face off traumatized me at that age, though. :lol

Probably my fave horror film of all time, perfect film to watch during winter. I even put it above Alien 79 as sci-fi horror goes (plus, the alien in this is more realistic and terrifying as it could be anyone, really playing on your paranoia and fear). Hard to believe it got negative reviews when it came out.

It brilliantly uses suspense and subtle hints throughout and there's stuff in here that I never noticed until later. Like the pair of tattered underwear found by Nauls early on -- doesn't seem like much at first but it's a big hint as to how the creature assimilates.

Also love the ambiguity of the ending. Do you think Childs was infected in the end?

It's a better film than Alien, but that doesn't mean Alien isn't a masterpiece. The attention to detail, the music, the setting. It's a flawless work of art in every way. Kurt is excellent and it's his best role and Carpenter's best film. The supporting cast was superb as well.

Carpenter said on Twitter recently that one indeed was infected, so it's certainly Childs. He takes a drink from Mac's bottle while before he was probably the most antsy guy about getting infected... but then trusts that Mac isn't infected by that point? That's why I believe Mac laughs.

I also read that it was in the script that Mac had a flawethrower on him, so I would assume he torches him immediately there after just like he spilled the booze in the Chess computer in the very beginning.

I love the ambiguity of the film as well since it's never clear aside from Bennings on the order of infection. I think Palmer was patient zero, and he infected Blaire shortly there after his computer simulation.

Something I've never been entirely clear on - are there 2 methods of assimilation? One being an immediate, complete and violent takeover of the victim ala Bennings and another being a 'secret' non-violent infection whereby the victim doesn't know they've been infected and continues going about their business while multiplying alien cells spread throughout their bodies ala Norris?

Or in fact are we to believe that anyone who was infected actually was violently taken over like the dogs and Bennings and we just happened to only be shown those two incidents and they also happened to be the only 2 times where the creature was caught in the act.

Or in fact are we to believe that anyone who was infected actually was violently taken over like the dogs and Bennings and we just happened to only be shown those two incidents.

It isn't clear at all and a lot of it is left up to the viewer.

But personally, I've come to believe there are indeed two as you've described. One Thing cell is all it would take to replace an organism and there would be a point where you would be "dead" yet the Thing now is piloting your body, and can manipulate it into any form it sees fit.

Look at when Norris is having heart trouble. He "dies" and there's only the Thing there.

Palmer was the one taken over by the dog where you see a man's shadow on the door. That was supposed to be Palmer according to one of the producers, I forget who, but they used a different person for the silhouette scene.

The forced assimilation is always violent. Take a look at this, and I didn't really look at it hard enough to realize it until I read some theories on some forums.

Blair watching the assimilation, with yellow shirt.

Blair delivering the "AH KHILL YUY" line, no yellow shirt.

The action scenes were really good, hulk felt a little off, but still enjoyed his scenes. Blanchett was a good addition to the Thorverse. Just needed some tightening up with editing.

Was the junk world (Goldblums world) supposed to look so cheap and candy colored? Goldblums was fun, as usual.

I can't wait for the sequel, too.

Terminator Salvation - 6.5/10

It's got some good ideas and there and broke up the Uncle Bob protector formula for a change. I'd say outside of T2, it's the better of the sequels out there.

Bale's Batman acting is incredibly cringe worthy, especially the "WHAT ARE YOU!?" line... which seems completely out of place after he just had a normal conversation with Marcus.

Oh and making Skynet a speaking entity was an incredible mistake. It's a cold calculating machine hellbent on extermination. It shouldn't have a ****ing personality.

Mindhunter (Netflix series): 6.5/10

Eh, wasn't crazy about it, and I LOVE Fincher. I appreciated its slow deliberate pace, love the dialogue, the subject matter and the tone. But overall I just thought it didn't really get anywhere. I was bothered by the lead guy's acting--it was pretty bad on the first episode but got a little better as the series went on. But something about his portrayal just didn't feel right to me. Also, his character was such an arrogant little piss ant. And I hated that they teased the ADT guy all through the series but never did anything with him--I suppose they're saving him for season 2? So sure, I'll watch season 2. If I had known they would end season 1 *SO* open ended I would have waited for season 2 and binged both together instead.

Liked Stranger Things 1 & 2 MUCH better.

Starship Troopers is a criminally under-appreciated movie. It basks in the vapidness of its cast and cheesiness of the script. It's a message movie that tries hard to undercut its own message.

It's Star Trek, if the Federation was run by the Third Reich.

I really, really wanted to like this film more, but I feel even this 6/10 is stretching it. This movie really could've used at least 30 more minutes for story and character development. Everything just happened, it seemed, without proper build-up. Honestly, this is my least favourite DCEU film. Yes, even Suicide Squad was better IMO.

Here be spoilers!
Batman fights parademon, 3 minutes later he's in Greenland(?) sporting a month old beard, talking to Aquaman (I hear you can talk to Fish - Did we just become buddies?).

Roose Bolton plays a terrorist with a slightly farfetched but also a kinda awesome idea to stop the Alien invasion... Three minutes and bam. Dealt with by Wonder Woman. (Albeit a very cool scene, her stopping the machine gun bullets and all.)

The CGI was crap. You could really pinpoint the scenes which were Henry Cavill's reshoots. I feel that I could've done a better job at erasing his mustache using my scarce Photoshop skills than they did in this film. It was like they just painted his mustache skintone and that's it.

Also Steppenwolf... He looked like ****. His face looked like a bad prostetic mask, while being CGI. His first reveal scene and the battle with the Amazons was pretty cringy. Also his motives were lame and uninspired to say the least. Again, more screentime would've fixed this.

The humor was too much. BvS was dark and bleak, so I welcome the occasional wisecrack. Especially if done by the right characters, like The Flash, maybe Aquaman, but when Batman starts to joke or you hear Superman say: "I don't want to die again" *Que Big Explosion* "Nevermind, I wish I was dead," I just felt it was way too much. Cyborg saying his toes hurt, I mean come on! Some jokes, fine! But they didn't have to go all Marvel on us.

But, it wasn't all bad. Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller and Jason Momoa did pretty good jobs with the material that was given them, Ben Affleck was good as well, but I liked him better in BvS.

And you definitely have to stay all the way until the end of the credits! :lecture

Seeing Deathstroke make his entrance on Lex Luthor's ship, was really awesome! It felt real again, not like the videogame villain that was Steppenwolf.

Probably the best scene in all of the movie! :rock

I used to love this movie, but my love for it died a year later when the praises were getting way out of hand. In retrospect however, the standards for Batman (and DC) on film have gotten so low that with all of Nolan's tendency of grandiose speeches, at least this was a thoroughly engaging experience. It might not be a great Batman story, nor is it as "realistic" as some people say, but you can credit this (and Batman Begins) of taking Batman out of his slump.
