Live by Night - 6/10 It's not bad, but the story and the main character lack focus, thus the story is not very engaging. The action is good and there are some really good sequences, as well as scenes, but despite being Ben Affleck's best looking movie, the main character just lacks a specific motivation.

Spiderman: Homecoming - 5/10.

This whole thing is probably gonna be an unpopular opinion. But I found Peter to be really unlikeable and annoying for the majority of the film. Between crashing through peoples' yards without a care for property damage, driving a car even though he could've hit someone, calling Happy all the time... Yeah. He spent so much time doing stupid stuff that I couldn't really care about him once he did buck up. The supporting characters were pretty stereotypical; I don't mind tropes, but their writing was pretty heavy-handed. Adrian's motives were super vague and seemed like a poor attempt at getting the audience to empathize with him. Pepper's cameo was shoehorned in there; anyone could've done what she did (which wasn't much). Even Tony Stark seemed like he was just there to scratch another movie off the list. I just didn't enjoy the film.

The Dark Tower.....still wrestling internally to give it an actual score.

I saw this last weekend by myself. I have read the book series twice all the way through (The Gunslinger probably 10 times) and this film version is just not my Dark Tower. It is not at all how I imagined the characters to look or act, nor did Mid World have the old Western/fantasy feel King described. The film is too much of an amalgamation of the story beats from the entire series to call this a true adaptation.

Yet I didn't hate the movie nearly as much as I thought I would. As a way to introduce a new audience to the story it's not horrible. It just could have been so much more. It felt cheap, but I understand the studios not willing to spend a lot on it due to the risk of even adapting it. But if they really wanted to start a franchise, I cannot believe some of the choices they made. Take the time to tell the story and introduce the characters. It was so rushed and unfocused had I not had a preexisting attachment to Roland and Jake, I do not think I would have cared for either of them in the film.

I love this story so much that seeing it on the big screen was something I never thought possible. I cannot hate this movie almost due to that in of itself. The movie just felt rushed and cheap. I think I would have to give it a 6.5/10. While it's not unwatchable, it is not what it could (or should) of been.

The Dark Tower 6/10.. not knowing anything about the story found it was quite interesting.I was surprised that it was so much like a comic book with the multi verse and travel to alt worlds.
6 because with all the power the Man in Black possessed, and the Gunslinger having dealt with him evidently for so long, the Story felt rushed like they needed to get to the end.
at least we had good actors.

Moana - 5/10. Really good water and magma animations. Overall film seemed rather derivative and forgettable, though. Plot was standard cookie cutter Disney. Moana's character model and expressions reminded me way too much of Rapunzel. I felt like I'd heard one of the songs before. Chicken was plain annoying and not as lovable as I hoped it would be. It was decent for passing the time but I wouldn't see it again.

It's that indie movie with Lance Henriksen right? I forgot that one existed, I remember looking forward to it during the kickstarter campaign, but completely forgot about it.

Let me guess, all the money went to the practical FX and none of it to the script.

There was only one shot in the entire film that was CGI (the cracks that formed on the Xenomorph's dome.) The rest were practical. The full grown Xenomorph that many people mistakenly assume was CGI was actually a poorly composited rod puppet.

They didn't screw up, they did the best they could with a far from perfect technique and the studio breathing down their necks.

Alien Covenant. IMO disjointed; the little white aliens looked like those toady critters from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, just plain silly in places with predictable ending. Felt like a mash up of Die Hard and Gabriel del Toro. Spores? Really? Like fairy dust! What happened to plain 'ol Alien eggs and like, a bit of time before some bad-tempered toothy slime puppy pops out? Now it's insta-critter!

And stupidity everywhere! At least Prometheus had some creepiness as well as stupidity. Leapin' lizards, it's those raptors from Juassic Park!
And if the lizards ate EVERY bit of meat on a planet, then what have they been surviving on? (Of course, that bothered me with the squid baby in Prometheus too that got so big with NO FOOD but I guess I should UNDERSTAND it's 'coz they're ALIEN)

Anyway don't think I'm supposed to laugh during an Alien movie and should appreciate the political correctness of the guy/guy Ai stuff but plz let me go back to Ripley and Ash and Newt and a genuinely terrifying creature. Am so done. 4 out of 10.

was already aware of this. She was nude, except the graphic sex scenes.

We wrote it as ‘the most crazy epic gymnastic sex scene ever,’ said Rauch. “It really was a porno script, essentially. But Sebastian was so fantastic and he went for so much of it. He could have just said, ‘Have my body double do it,’ and instead he came to set in his robe and said, ‘Okay, let’s do this.’”

Rauch did, too, but for some of the more graphic moments, she selected as her body double a Cirque du Soleil dancer who had no hang-ups about the scene’s wild stunts. “Every time I slammed into her,” Stan said, “I was like, ‘Oh my God, are you okay?’ And she was like, ‘Just go for it.’”

“I remember staring at her like a creepy old dude,” laughed Rauch, “wishing that she could body-double for me in every moment of life. At one point, I was like, ‘Do you want a robe?’ and she said, ‘I’m good, you’re gonna see everything anyway.’ And she was literally sitting there legs open, eating a sandwich.”

Caught it on cable. Folks really into Harry Potter might like it more. I'm not an HP nut and only read the books after seeing a film *shrug*. I think there were a bunch of Easter eggs that would have HP fans squealing. It doesn't suck and some appealing characters IMO.

Am sure HP fans would say I just don't get it LOL.

Yeah I think each Max is really stand alone anyway.....you do not need to see any of them to enjoy any others.....

Gibson is way to old and out of shape to play Max.....I love him as Max also, but Max is a physical character.....some 70 year old guy playing him kinda goes against my belief that Max would make it to that age at all....

Maybe as a flash forward seeing him at the City of Light created by The Feral Kid and The Lost Tribe.

For his age I agree.....

But no one his age should be jumping from cars and tanker trucks.......

Seriously , I know there is alot of love for Gibson.....but honestly.......what of any of the action sequences could he have realistically pulled off on camera?

Unless your talking about a totally new film....there is not way Mel could believably pull off the stunts Max is famous for..

Mel is in better shape than Hardy was when he played Bane, and IIRC Hardy has an old back injury and he can't do much himself, that's why there are stunt men, wires and green screen, he ain't no Tom Cruise.

Physicality isn't a factor that favors Hardy over Mel, not for Mad Max.

I know it's a moot point and I don't dislike Hardy, I just agree with Riddick that it would've been better with Mel.

I dont know the whole story but respect him highly as a actor director. I also think hollywood is crap in terms of new movie's lately just rebooting and horrible casting choice's to just WTF why some of these movie's even get released so bad. Anyway should be interesting if he does direct suicide squad 2 or get involved. The Matrix: Reloaded - 8/10. People like to hate on this movie, but it's really not that bad. Multiple action scenes in it are among the most memorable I've ever seen, and I love the fact that it decides to have some fun and push the boundaries of the Matrix. Sure, the CGI during the brawl with the multiple Smiths is a bit obvious, but it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb unless someone points it out. I never even noticed the first few times I watched it. Also, I like the rave scene. And the music is great.

:lol I think the only adaptions of Anime/Manga that seem to work for the most part are Japan made. They took liberties with the Japanese Death Note movies, but the core elements are in there. They completely gutted out the soul of it in the **** flix version.

Halloween III: Season of the Witch - 6.5/10

Not perfect, but I appreciate Carpenter going in a different direction as opposed to recycling the same old stuff like the rest of the Halloween sequels did. Dan O'Herlihy was cool as the villain. The musical score was great.

Berserk is completely unadaptable. The 90s anime was good but much is cut due ratings I assume. The new anime is an embarrassment, but it ain't no Derp Note.

And since his master is no longer Japanese it should be 'Kung Fu Kid'. Regardless, the remake is lame.

I know it's not a movie... Marvel's X-Men: The Animated Series - 10/10

I've spent a lot of time in front of the television over the last week recovering from surgery, so I was able to binge-watch all the episodes of this childhood favorite. This series feel ever-relevant, and not just the same "powers = responsibilities" concept, but the example of *character* as the means of promoting tolerance/acceptance. Xavier's mutants, while having the ability to subject others to their will, do not force change, even when the extreme intolerance & aggression they face could make this desirable. The contrast with other, less-heroic characters is appropriate and often the "bad guys" are given a depth that allows the viewer to empathize with them because of their suffering at the hands of non-mutants. Good stuff & I was sad to see it end :(

I defend Hellraiser because it's a decent character driven film with good actors and pretty body horror.
IT was bad in pretty much every aspect. Doesn't mean I don't like... it. :wink1:

GasparZizou

But, the acting style was literally the same as in Hellraiser, and IT is 10x more character driven.

I would put both IT and Hellraiser on the same tier.
