Spider-Man homecoming 5/10 garbage nothing we haven't seen before

Raimi broke the franchise since everything is either shot for shot with the old series or just outright stinks. Given all the mediocre ratings in here, it's ASM all over again.

Live by Night: 6.5/10

Not as bad as the reviews suggest. It felt a bit uneven (rushed maybe?) for the first half, but then settled in to a good pace. I think Ben might have been the weak link—played the character very stiff. I know he was going for “stoic” but it just came across as wooden. The movie also felt a bit generic, both in story and tone, and was missing the great mood Ben managed with all his previous movies. Brendan Gleeson as his father was really great.

It's definitely a great film. I remember seeing it at my local drive-in theatre back when it first came out, though I didn't give it a re-watch until earlier this year - about five years later. :lol

I feel like I'm the only person who gives the Chitauri any love...

I've never seen Red Heat. It's one of 4 Arnie films that I haven't seen, the other three are, "Stay Hungry" "The Jayne Mansfield Story", and "Villain."

I'm not a big fan of Raw Deal.

The other films I didn't include were, True Lies, Eraser, Maggie, Junior and Last Stand because I'm not a fan. I've seen them and they're ok, but for some reason I don't need or want to watch them again.

Pretty fun film, felt alot more like the original .....but missed a few beats here and there.....a few jokes fall flat.....and predictable last 1/4. But had me laughing and enjoying it alot! Depp IS Cpt Jack

Passengers: 7/10 nice visually . I can watch JL all day.....Sci fi stuff was cool.....somewhat plain story.....could have been alot more. I thought of about 6 alternate story lines that would have been more interesting. But overall enjoyable.

I love that the two John Wick flicks are in your top 4. You rated John Wick at 7, and rank it as your second favourite. You out Chapter 2 as a 7.5 at number 4. Just curious why Chapter 2 is ranked lower even though you gave it a higher score?

I think John Wick II is visually better looking, more stylized than the first, and the overall action might be better than part 1. I also liked the ending, but the first film is the original and the one that pretty much introduces all the ideas and created the world, so part II is a continuation, which makes the first more original, imo. I saw part II recently, so I've seen the first movie more times, therefore it's more familiar, so part two could move up to second place eventually. It's a list of favorites, so it's always difficult to put a brand new movie above films older movies.

It's such a boring movie and the main characters aren't very interesting. Such a wasted opportunity, since Russell's character could have been very iconic. The final chase was cool, but most of the film is just the girls talking. They should have focused more on Mike and him terrorizing the girls through out the film, maybe make the whole film a chase like Mad Max Fury road with Mike constantly chasing them. His intro was cool too.

Yeah I found it boring as well. After he kills the girls in the beginning, the rest was dull and I just didn't give a **** about the new girls.

I don't think they ever found his body and there was conflicting methods of how he was killed and where. Only that he was buried in a cornfield. It's been awhile since I researched it, but I think the timeline of events in the movie differs a lot from reality.

Yeah, his death was similar to Pesci's death in Goodfellas, ironically :lol

He and his brother were told that they were being promoted, so they went to the meeting in a house, and they were both killed in the basement, then their bodies were buried in a cornfield, similar to the movie.

Great ****in' moofies.

They do cheat a bit with his webshooters - not talking about the organic aspect, personally I was always fine with that - if a spider-bite can give him super strength, super endurance and the ability to crawl up walls why not also natural web-shooting. It's hardly much more of a stretch and it's actually more plausible that it wasn't something a schoolboy had to invent. But the cheating bit is how oftentimes it really seems like he's hanging from the sky itself or he is pulled by the web pretty much immediately after he fires it. How fast does that stuff travel?

How fast does that stuff travel?

Between 53 and 90 miles per hour according to https://www.wired.com/2014/04/the-physics-of-spider-mans-webs/

I'm sure it's much faster in the comics though.

Megaforce: terrible

But definitely something different. I remember seeing the ads in loads of comics I had as a kid. They were obviously trying to appeal to young boys who are into things like Star Wars. But instead it was a total failure in almost every way. I didn't realize the guy in the ads was the same guy who was in The Rocky Horror Picture Show which was pretty funny.

Sons of Anarchy. Overall series, 9/10. Season Seven, 7/10 -- too long headed the wrong direction. Finale, 8/10 -- a fitting ending. Good series. Not sure if it fits in my top five -- alongside Justified, Breaking Bad, The Shield, 24 or House MD. Probably. Or, at least damn close. I'll have to think on it. Definitely worth a watch, though. Compelling. As with every series, there are up-and-down seasons ... but the overall series is damn good.

Looking forward to Mayans MC.

WFTPOTA - 7/10

While I enjoyed it, I was slightly disappointed. Didn't expect 50% of the movie to take place in a Prison camp.

Also, the humor/comic relief felt out of place, since the first two films had none.

I understand why the Mutated virus subplot is there, but felt more like it trying to keep lock-step with the originals, and seemed unnecessary. I always thought of this series as a reboot/reimagining, and don't feel they needed a reason why the humans could No longer speak in the originals.

Still, I liked it.

CGI was very, very impressive.

When it comes to the slasher genre, my opinions have never been the popular ones since I’ve never actually been a fan of the genre. Monster films like Alien and Predator are my cup of tea.

Most of the slasher classics are boring to me – with protagonists there as nothing but gore fodder so limp and dull that I wish they’d just get carved up within the first 15 minutes of the films. Marilyn Burns' character in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is an example of what I would consider a plot device; a non-character. I thought the only protagonists in Halloween 1978 who counted as actual characters were Dr. Loomis (the best part of the film, IMHO) and of course Laurie. Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis are great actors, and the atmosphere and musical score of the film are both historical – however, I always found the Michael Myers character too generic. I won’t even bother talking about Friday the 13th here. That being said, I DO certainly understand the historical value of these films, I will just personally never see them as good movies.

The Scream films, on the other hand, I enjoy because they’re basically making fun of the aforementioned slasher classics. Now, I’m perfectly aware that horror clichés existed before those films, but I couldn’t respectfully disagree more about them not being clever – to me that’s exactly what they were even though they were after their time. I also find the Ghostface costume/mask much more memorable than the designs of Leatherface, Myers, Jason, etc. – all of which seem boring and generic to me.

I’m not saying my opinions are right nor am I trying to force how I feel down anyone’s throats, just clearing things up. :duff

Please, don't feel like you need to defend your tastes!

It's just one of those movies that was very successful, that I found completely unappealing. I wouldn't have even mentioned it, except that it was all people were talking about back in the day.

As for horror, yes, I too love Alien, but my favorite horror films are The Shining, The VVitch, Rosemary's Baby, and Jacobs Ladder. Slasher films don't appeal to me.

But sorry to say this film is a disaster.I won't go deep, just 3 things. The lead actor was absolutely terrible/monochrome with no charisma at all.The dialogue was a joke and I don't mean Funny. The music for the film at no point fit the scene it was for.Honestly some of the worst I have ever experienced in a big budget film.

Plus most characters are memorable, even the minor ones.
I just wish it wasn't so silly most of the time. Villains look great and nicely written but the actin's just way too OTT. Same goes to most of them cop characters.

Silliness for sure. I need to give that another watch, it's been quite some time.

Just a few odd editing decisions. The biggest one bein'... from 0:35 to 0:49

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09TAIcCqFpg

She's basically talkin' to the "BEEEEEEEEEEE" sound there, it's hilarious and not dramatic. He could hold a pause and hang up after hearin' Starling's panicful "Doctor Lecter?" - that way it'd actually mean something instead of bein' weirdly funny.

So yeah, these things take me out of the movie which I hate. But the rest is great, thus 9,5 :lol

DUNKIRK. just saw this in 70MM and sorry to say I can only give it 5/10.And the 5 is because it is based on True events. The amazing courage of everyday people during war to get in their small boats and cross the channel to help bring back their stranded soldiers knowing they may never return. And many did not.

there are 400 Thousand men on this beach. When one of the ranking soldiers asked the Admiral where are our ships where is our support, the Admiral replied a ship is coming. The soldier said one ship..WHY? The Admiral replied because they are saving the fleet for the Invasion that they are thinking will come at home.

This is the most bloodless war epic of all time.Lots of dead soldiers but absolutely no blood no body parts for all the explosions and cinema carnage.
Not one dead person on the Beach after that first bombing which occurred right next to one of the main characters we follow was bloody or blown apart. And there was not a trace of blood on the Beach.
Not one Gun on a ship did we see actually fire back at Bombers that were having a field day picking off ships and boats.
I saw one soldier on the Beach actually fire back at incomming strafers.400 Thousand men on the Beach and no one else raised a weapon.
In Town the only guys holding the line were the French. And their Barracade of sand bags looked like it was just purchased at Home Depot. As did the war torn town which was in perfect untouched motion picture condition.
The Music was a total mess of loud pounding mechanical sounds that 75% of were not part of the Flying or the Bombing.A cliche' of sound made to emit emotion in scenes.I'M sure it worked on many people.
Also the chronology was all over the place. In two different scenes in the film it's Day time as boats are crossing the channel but in the next scene it's pitch black night as boats are crossing coming from Dunkirk.Even if that is a real depiction of the actual time difference it was done terrible.
There were some very good scenes, oil in the water catching fire with men in it was pretty realistic, sinking boats and a couple of good spitfire scenes. And one true emotional scene about a young boy we follow on the main rescue Boat.
This story had all the potential to be a good True War Epic. But NOT.

ATOMIC BLONDE 6/10.. seen it,done it, but they thought a woman would make it different.Too bad because Charlize is too good an actress for this film. Then again which is why she does such a good job with a lame story.Crank up the Hotness with Sofia Boutella and action with Charlize and it's worth watching.

Oh yeah' the fight scene on the stairs that everyone has seen in the Trailers where Charlize telegraphs a lot of her moves is actually the worst of the fight scenes. She kicks @ss way better in most of the other fighting sequences.More fluid and realistic.

Well I resisted the John Wick hype for quite awhile until today when I finally bought part 1.

I figured it was a safe blind purchase after the massive support it received because cool stunt men made it.

What a crappy boring movie lol.

Christian Bale already did gun-fu in 2002 with Equilibrium and did it much cooler I might add.

I could tell this movie was directed by stunt men because the characters and plot structure was a complete mess.

All the hype over that stupid hotel mob rules for what, so lame and poorly fleshed out.

The shoot outs were very boring.

I liked the techno scene in the club just because the techno song made it cooler.

That rock song when Wick arrives at the hotel was horrendous, what an annoying song.

The Russian mob was handled much better on the DD Netflix show.

Wick was perfect one second than a complete noob the next.

I didn't see any action that broke any new ground here, this movie can't even compare to the action in the PG-13 safe for kids TWS/CW!

Is JW2 better than this boring mess of a movie lol.

Lejuan

(John Wick sucked)

That's interesting, 'cause I'm generally pretty good at guessing how good a movie will be just from its trailer. And the John Wick trailer looked like everything you've described in your post. But then people have been talking about how good it is, so I started second-guessing myself. I guess it's a question of style, and its one that just doesn't appeal to me. I might watch it when I have absolutely nothing better to do.

The Clown Prince of Crime

Is JW2 better than this boring mess of a movie lol.

It's more of the same, but it has more action, better stunts, bigger budget, more assassins and it looks better visually. Same music, fighting style, and the third act or final battle can be a bit underwhelming compared to the previous action sequences. His moves are a bit repetitive, but they get the job done, I guess. They expand the hotel and underground assassins world, and they show JW doing his famous pencil trick. I think it's better, but I enjoyed the first one, so you still might not like the sequel. I liked it, and I liked JW2's ending more than the first one.

His fight with the old man in JW1 was about as anticlimatic as you can get.

His character was ruined as soon as he started whining what they took away from him

Seriously these guys have no business directing a movie just continue being stunt men under Trank.

Yeah, the sequel's third act has more action, but it's a bit repetitive and although he doesn't fight an old man, the ending does feel a bit underwhelming, but let's just say that his actions have some long term consequences, unlike the old man fight in the first movie.

It's fun, but aside from the racial element, it's nothing I haven't seen before. I felt it was very predictable, and there were a few missed opportunities to push certain ideas further, and because of that, the film comes across as very safe, when you consider the subject matter, racial themes, and cultural focus through the story.

I liked it, so I can't blame critics for liking it, thus giving it a 99% on RT, but I can't help feeling like the critics' reaction towards the movie is similar to that of the white characters when they meet Chris in the film. :lol Maybe I'm looking into it a bit much.

There's a lot of very subtle and very interesting subtext, the director clearly has a very stylish touch, I liked that a lot about him, great skill and pleasing cinematography, not to mention, yeah it's fun.

But ultimately his whole Cultural Appropriation: the movie; "we so cool they want to be us" and other related commentary... It's eye rolling, even as witty as he executed it.

I think I was very harsh the first time I rated it, but I don't know how to feel about a very stylish 2 hour whining exercise.

Yeah, he'd be fine. However, I've decided...not now, but recently, that Manga or Anime, should not be made into live action movies. The anime already did it, so there's no point in doing a live action Akira, DBZ or any Anime. I'm probably wrong, but I think it's a cultural or western obsession to make live action movies or series....not that the Japanese don't do it, but Anime in Japan is taken more seriously, and adults watch it. However, animation on this side of the world is usually seen as material for young adults or children, so no matter how good an animated film or series might be, or a comic, there seems to be this obsession to make a version with actual humans...because...cartoons are for kids. What other reason can there be when you look at the history of animation in Japan and the US? :dunno The other reason I guess might be curiosity, to see how a live action movie compares to the animation.

I Have rated the movie with 8.5/10 I am fan of Jordan Peele, the director, probably not the best horror movie out there, but definitely one of the best movies for the year, with a great amount of dedication to details, from the deer, the score, the screenplay, overall plot and subtle messages, Peele made a great movie that you can enjoy watching over and over for many times.

I think a lot of people missed the real point of the movie (not saying any of you did) which seemed to be the fear of losing one's identity. I suppose black people may feel disconnected from much of their heritage and culture the more they integrate into white society.

It's literally the opposite :lol The point is that whites are bleeding them for their culture while they sit in the sunken place of society, where no matter how loud they scream, nobody can hear them.

It's not so much that they're losing their identity/homogenizing, because the white man wants them for their very identity.

There may be a couple comments about suburban black men wanting to be white, but it's certainly not the main point.

This would be higher 5 years ago when I last watched it, but man has it aged. Not in a good Batman '89 way either; over-acting, sloppy cinematography, cheesy (over the top) love story etc. The montage where he's drawing his suit is laugh out loud cringeworthy. Flashes of MJ smiling and all. :lol

What? I still agree with you, it's highly overrated, I think the praise it received had more to do with the political alignment of critics, than with recognizing the movie itself, same for most of the people.

They all are the dad.

Courtesy of my blog 'Bound to the Sound'... Here is my Spoiler-free review of 'War for the Planet of the Apes'

Behind only 'Guardians Of The Galaxy: Vol 2', 'War of the Planet of the Apes' (from hereon referred to as 'War') is my second most anticipated movie of 2017. Both 'Rise' and 'Dawn' cemented this Apes series as one hell of a movie franchise reboot... and it was up to 'War' to complete the trilogy and make it a true masterpiece of modern cinema... so did it?

Not quite.

'War' didn't sit right with me. Sure, it does a lot of good things, but if felt disjointed from the first two films that came before it. The biggest sin was the fact that I desperately love these ape characters, but their plight left little in the way for me to care as much as I really wanted to... I genuinely felt disconnected from the emotional element that the film shamelessly shoves down your throat. War is a misleading title too... this is by far a more personal conflict for Caesar than what the film's grandiose title suggests... even to the point where unbelievably, the plot swerves away from the Apes as the main focal point in the supposed "War"...
Now to the positives. Andy Serkis deserves something in the way of an innovation award for making a CGI character as compelling and now iconic as his Caesar. He's an absolute master at this art form and he definitely doesn't disappoint in this movie, Caesar is still one of the greatest Sci-fi characters ever created. The supporting cast are all great too, Woody Harrelson is superb with a wasted character... series newcomer Steve Zahn is also amazing as new character Bad Ape (trust me, you will love him!) and as with the first two films, the CGI is just mind bogglingly good...
The symbolism (there's actually quite a bit of religious undertones throughout) and film references ('Apocalypse Now', 'Lord of the Rings') are rife, and border on over-the-top at times. The action is scarce too, I'd categorise this more a drama then an all out action-adventure film... and the ending left me quite underwhelmed and a little perplexed... but to say why would ruin the promise of a spoiler-free review, so we move on.

The runtime is bloated (140 minutes? Really?), the dialogue at times is obvious (surprising for a series that has relied on subtle, clever storytelling techniques so as not to hand feed the audience with obvious information) and some characters are wasted (literally!) just to serve a plot point... the conflicts that are being built throughout the film never pay off, I miraculously felt short changed on a lot of things about this film, especially after the build up of the superb previous two films... In particular the climactic, epic chaos of 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'...

I was just bitterly disappointed with this film... again, it wasn't awful, but my expectations were perhaps so unfairly high that what I saw failed to get anywhere near those lofty heights. To be truthful, I'm soooooo disappointed that I was disappointed... I'm more pissed off to the fact that I did't like it more... I had a thought after the film that if this was the launch of a new franchise, it wouldn't cut it for me. The fact it's an Apes film I have given it a considerable amount of slack, whether righly or wrongly, I just thought... what is the whole point of it all?

People praised it because muh woke black movie.

For reference, literally the first 2 reviews in RT.

Ghost in the Shell (live action) -- 6/10 It was ok. After settling in and accepting the movie for what it is, I was more thrown off by Takeshi always speaking Japanese and everyone answering in English instead than anything else. Effects were pretty cool, city was pretty, blah, blah, blah, but I still don't know why anyone felt they had to make this into a live action film. Hollywood needs to learn to just leave some **** alone. After GITS, I have no desire to see an Akira live action film. The anime for these properties is all you need.

The only live action of Anime/Manga I can watch is Japanese made. While their budgets and CGI aren't USA level, at least their faithful to the source material for the most part of what I've seen. While I'm not entirely familiar with GITS, word of mouth seemed like it was faithful... just poorly executed.

The Japanese Death Note movies take liberties with the story, but it's got the core theme in there. They're not amazing, but I don't hate them at all.

The Bleach Japanese live action teaser I thought looked good.

The Bleach teaser did look good.

GITS was fine for the most part. It was faithful to the story and there were some exact shots from the anime in the film. It had some stuff that threw me off while watching it, but overall, I liked it. I may watch it one more time to see if I missed anything the first time, but it's not a film that has a ton of rewatch value. I'll stick to the anime when I'm in the mood for it again.

I've mentioned it before, but I'm almost glad that Berserk is pretty niche and will never get a film. They can't even adapt it right to Anime, let alone beyond that.

I don't think I'll ever want to see Berserk adapted to live-action. There's no way they'd do the manga justice.
