Loved it. I want to watch it again soon.

Alien: Covenant - 6.5/10
I liked it and I'd see it again. Didn't really care for the characters apart from Fassbender tho and the CGI was wonky in a few places.

This is possibly my fourth viewing(?). I liked it. The comedy drags on in a few places, but I like how they focus on the characters. The visuals are great. Nebula is hawt.

I meant that I feel hampered when all the recent big budget live action depictions of Batman for the last 5 years (BVS, TDKR) didn't "get" the character right and it took a Lego cartoon to make me go "Oh yeah, that's totally Batman!". A cartoon! :slap :lol

With me not being a big Batman fan or DC fan in general, I didn't like The LEGO Batman Movie at all. Even for fans of 2014's The LEGO Movie, I felt that TLBM was just lackluster and humorless all around. It was basically an hour and 44 minutes of Batman being a blowhard.

Regardless of the, at times, eye-rolling social commentary, quite a good mix of horror and comedy.

Now the movie doesn't take itself too seriously, but the social commentary does, basically; They're appropriating us: The movie, but at least it's entertaining.

I don't know how would this guy handle Akira, he would certainly add that bit of humor needed for it, and he handles his actors well, cinematography was pretty good too, but I wouldn't want any of his social commentary in it.

The Good: Patrick Stewart, Laura's first fight scene, rated R Wolverine film, having the balls to be a stand alone comic book film, basically the entire first third of the film
The Bad: Way too long and started feeling like it halfway through, X-24 was a cop out and using him felt forced, Reavers were wasted and just claw fodder, kids not using their powers more against the Reavers, Pierce's death

That's my absolute, most favorite thing about the film, that it's so self-contained. I can't imagine any other superhero film that would give the middle finger to continuity or setting up more movies. I don't think the film is perfect either, but that aspect I adore endlessly, especially considering how comic book films are made today.

I was curious what you'd think about it, and were on the exact same page with it. And yes, half way through my interest started dipping and I just wanted it to finish so I can go do something else.

Even though I didn't love it like most did, I'll buy a HT Logan for sure. I got five Jackmans already.

The movie was good, but it's not one I'll rewatch very often. I really had to make myself sit through the last half. I'd like a Logan figure for sure. I'm surprised HT hasn't announced one yet considering they've made all the other Jackman figures.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales - 6.5/10

I liked it a lot. The first hour and a half has some really good parts (the introduction of Jack, Salazar's origin, etc), but it also drags a lot and feels different from the other movies.

The last 30 minutes were fantastic though, and was one of my favorite string of moments in the series.
The Elizabeth & Will reunion made me happy. :monkey2

I don't get the post-credits scene, because...
...if Jones were still alive somehow, wouldn't breaking the trident have turned him back into a normal guy? Still a cool scene tho, and I'd love to see a POTC movie focused on Will.I'm glad I kept my expectations low. If I hadn't, I definitely don't think I would've enjoyed it as much.

Overall, I rank the POTC movies as -

1. Dead Man's Chest
2. Curse of the Black Pearl
3. At World's End

4. Dead Men Tell No Tales

5. On Stranger Tides

I'm excited to see this again. I'm taking my dad Saturday since he's a big fan of the previous movies.

I must admit when the trailer first hit it didn't really interest me. I didn't like that Elliot was furry and looked more like a giant dog than a dragon. Then the movie came out and was getting good reviews so I figured I'd go ahead and check it out at some point. Watched it on NetFlix last night and really enjoyed it. Did a Bond mini-marathon over the weekend;

Casino Royale - 10/10

My favourite Bond film. Enjoyable and timeless.

Quantum of Solace - 6/10

This is the first time I have watched it since watching at the cinema back in 2008. I enjoyed it a lot more than I remember, and it's story works better if watched soon after Casino Royale. However, it does pale in comparison.

I do remember there being quite an overly exaggerated negative reaction to this movie in 2008. Any movie was going to struggle after the brilliant Casino Royale, but Quantum of Solace is nowhere near as bad as a lot of people would try and lead you to believe. Some of the negative sensationalist reviews and internet feedback in 2008 was a joke.

Skyfall - 8/10

A return to form. A nice blend of action and Bond character moments. Really enjoy this movie!

Spectre - 8/10

I may be in a minority here, but I enjoy Spectre slightly more than Skyfall. I remember a little negative sensationalist reaction to this movie, although nowhere near as much as there was for Quantum of Solace. I think the reviews were fairly divided. A common critique of Craig's Bond films is that they are missing some of the traditional Bond elements (although Casino Royale has many Bond elements, certainly enough for what is supposed to be Bond on one of his first missions as a 00 Agent). So here we have a film that is embracing a mix of the strengths of Craig's Bond films with more traditional Bond elements, and yet is is criticised for this?

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed Spectre, and it tied up the Craig series nicely.

Looking forward to what is next in store for the series!

Yeah, but how many numbers? How are we supposed to understand if you use words?

:tap

By default it means 0/10

I thought it meant 10 by default. See where this gets us?

What do numbers really tell us about a movie though? Or anything? If you ask me about the women I ravaged last Friday night and I tell you that the first was a 0/10 and the second was a 10/10... well that doesn't tell you much about the emotional connection I made with either of them.

It's definitely a well made film and it was Russell's best character. But after each viewing, I see it as the weakest of the Russell/Carpenter trilogy. I think that's due to Carpenter evolving and refining his techniques. Undoubtedly, The Thing was their best collaboration and their best film respectively. I know this might surprise people but I prefer The Thing over EFNY. It's just that I'm drawn to Plissken more than the film itself.

:lecture

I can't see two films in that genre that are anymore perfect. Although I tend to pick the Fly over Thing, since I love how Cronenberg made the transformation a slow and agonizing process and wanted Goldblum to be very articulate about what was happening to him to the very end.

But I can't watch it as much as I would The Thing since it becomes too depressing and disturbing.

The Thing is great in regards to obviously the SFX, the craftsmanship of how Carpenter built the story. There's still ongoing debates as to who got infected when and how and if Childs was infected at the end (which he was)

He wanted to leave Mac outside than let him in. He left his post by the door (which he wouldn't do) and went outside and only shows up at the end? C'mon.

There's also a very specific camera pan during the one scene that shows the doorway to the generator room in the basement, which is how Blair got to him.

Even Carpenter said in a tweet not long ago that one of them was infected but didn't state who. At face value, there wasn't any time for Mac to get infected.

Yeah, there's the bare minimum amount of plot in JC movies, but he makes up for it with likable characters and body comedy, they're just comfy movies.

The choreographies in this are crazy, what he can come up with with just his body, props and no CGI, wow.

Not the amazing 1951 original, but the remake from 2007 or so.

It is not good.

It was weird.

I kept expecting Keanu Reeves to say, "Whoa", "Bogus", or
"Excellent" throughout the movie.

Or play air guitar.

Gort being able to transform into some kind of colony of bugs that can eat
anything was.. weird.

The movie seemed like the love child of Starman and the original
film it's based upon, yet it lacked the charm and appeal of
both.

I wanted to watch it to see if my negative opinion of it
had changed any... no, it had not. ( I first saw it on tv in 2008 or so.)

LOGAN – Never saw any trailers, no idea what the story was about going in. Seeing everything for the first time and letting the movie tell me the story (not trailers or reviews prior)….

After initial viewing……1/10 Who are these impostors playing the Professor & Wolverine?? I don’t know them? When did they start swearing? When did it get so violent?? Boring story, Boring environments, boring villain (how many times have we seen bad guys like this),. Only character I found interesting (outside the girl) was the Albino and he didn’t do much at all.

I get it two guys at the end of their reign…now old. One has a disease of the brain one dying. But that’s not entertaining. This movie played out like a independent Fox Searchlight picture.

What was clear smack in the face for me was the success of DEADPOOL’s influence on LOGAN.

Anyway like I said after the initial viewing without any influence or expectations from Trailers or review…..1/10.

After watching I went on Youtube to listen to the review and I was shocked at what I was hearing ….BEST COMIC BOOK MOVIE EVER??? WTF!!!

I will place this next to MOONLIGHT as one of the most overrated movies I have watched

Curious if the addition of swearing and violence is what giving LOGAN great reviews? Cant be story!

I did most of my research on MIB4 last year and actually started writing my own screenplay for what I thought would make a good fourth installment, but I stopped working on it midway through. Plus I'm sure negotiating with a big studio like Columbia/Sony would be a total nightmare. :gah:

I thought it was aight. It was a nice breath of fresh air to get a semi-contained, solo origin story from DC again.

Captain Underpants - 6.5/10
Being a big fan of the books growing up, this was a blast for me. :lol The animation was really nice too.

Captain Underpants 7/10 ...took my 2 Nieces Sunday they love George and Harold and loved the movie.Knowing nothing about it I liked it also.This is not really a film for children more for like tweens and above as the dialog is very grown up.Although there were young children in the Theater and they were cracking up.But I think mainly at the simple jokes and cartoon fun.Very cool story and the animation all 3 styles was very good.

Logan - 9/10 I guess people that didn't like it didn't want anything original and just wanted cookie cutter story a la Marvel :dunno

What's "cookie cutter" about Marvel? Or the comics that influence the films? I don't see that.

Anyway just re trailers etc. and articles I haven't seen Logan. Don't want to - doesn't appeal to me. That doesn't mean it's a bad film. But I've seen bitter coming-of-age stories, "life sucks stories", "we're all gonna die stories", "people suck" stories etc.

Maybe one day I'll check Logan out *shrug*.

Because it's like you see one you've seen them all. You don't even know which film you're watching anymore with all the appearances of all the Avengers cast in every movie.

So you're dismissing Logan and making an opinion of it without even seeing it ?

Well, yeah, tho wouldn't call that "dismissing". It's making a choice based on pieces of information, trailers, and commentary as well as flat out spoilers that I ran into. E.g. at this point in time, based on available info, does this sound like a movie I want to make an effort to see? For me no. I may change my mind down the road.

And at the moment I don't have to answer to other reasons folks may watch films:

1) My boyfriend/girlfriend/friend/dog/family wants to watch it and I am doing quality time with him/her/them;
2) "Everyone" has seen it and don't wanna be the loser that didn't;
3) I'm a comic fanatic who has seen every comic book movie ever made including the ones that majorly suck like Catwoman;
4) I'm a Hugh Jackman fan and think he's hot;
5) I'm a Patrick Stewart fan and think he's hot;
6) I'm bored and it's a choice between this and the barbecue pitmasters competition on TV.

So, yeah, why does anyone choose to watch anything?

Logan 9/10 The standard of how brutally Wolverine should be adapted on screen. Bigget regret with Wolverine is we will never get a proper Weapon X scene, lets face it there would be gallons of blood spilled when he first woke up.

Alien Covenant 7/10 I hated it and liked it at the same time. I have so many questions still from Prometheus, this movie seemed to either provide vague answers or raise new questions. That said, I think Fassbenders role is amazing and am still genuinely interested, kinda feel like I have been conned into the story and may never get answers.

Wonder Woman - 6.5/10 Met the higher end of my expectations.

All around weak acting from Gal Gadot and weaker action, but everything else was good, humor was natural, some jokes didn't land, supporting characters were good, David Thewlis and Chris Pine were my favorites.

No, it's not better than BvS, not by a long shot, not in story, not in cinematography, not in action, not in score, nothing, nada, it's more feelgood, which some, less discerning, may have confused with better quality, it isn't.

I'd say this is a CA:TFA in WWI, no better and no worse really, maybe a bit more substance than CA.

I have seen Wonder Woman twice now so I can safely rate it a solid 8/10. Just the right blend of Donner's Superman and Batman Begins as far as it being a joyful tale while also treating its source material respectfully. I am so happy DC can make a film like this again. Gives me hope for future films (mainly the solo outings where a filmmaker is given leeway to tell their own story without being bound to a bigger narrative)

Beauty and the Beast (2017) - 6.5/10

This one suffers a bit on score, because I just can't help but compare it to its far superior predecessor. The first half feels awkward and rushed, but greatly improves on the second half. Where it shines is when it veers away from the original animated version, but that doesn't happen enough. Also, the CGI for Beast is pretty shoddy a lot of the time, which is a real shame, because the believability of the character is very important to the overall film.

Emma Watson does not posses the vocal range to be the lead in a musical, her performance also varied in quality wildly in regards to acting. Too much was made of Le Fou in the uproar surrounding the film, really a non-issue.

I know many loved this movie, but I feel it should not have been made unless they could have brought something significantly different to the screen, not a virtual shot for shot redo.

As a huge BvS fan, I'm going to roll both films into one definitive review and give it a 7/10.

Simply put. There was no need for an Ultimate Edition. They could've easily fit all of the relevant information into a two and a half hour runtime.
-1. Cut the Justice League intros. That is 4 minutes of wasted screentime. You want to share those videos with the world? Take a page out of your boy, Chris Nolan's playbook and use them to beef up your viral marketing. End of the day: the general public doesn't give a flying **** about Aquaman or Cyborg or The Flash, when it comes to the Justice League. They care about the Big Three. Show them kicking ass and make it interesting enough to draw people in for more, and they'll learn to live with Cyborg, Aquaman, and Flash tagging along.

-2. We didn't need World of the Psychic with ESP Lois deciding to risk her life to give Supes the spear. Have her throw it off to the side, leave it there, have Supes pick it up and jam it through that big, bony bastard's heart. We didn't need three scenes of her being the damsel in distress. Her desert rescue and being thrown off a roof by Luthor were plenty without the added random drowning.

-3. The Knightmare sequence could've been cut altogether, or, at the very least, significantly shortened. We get it, WB. You were riding that Mad Max hype wave. Point is: there's enough in the film to let us know how Batman views Superman without his whole psychotic, Injustice inspired fever dream. Most people didn't get what you were going for, anyway. Decent idea, **** execution. Movie would've been better without Batman's power nap.

That's -3, giving me a 7/10 as the final score. Assuming they made all of those changes, the run time would've been closer to 2 hours 48 minutes. Take away the 12 minutes worth of credits and you have an actual film that runs 2 hours, 36 minutes. Far more practical runtime, better pacing; and all of the relevant information intact so the movie still makes sense.
