Audition 6.5/10. Pretty hardcore. It reminded me a lot of an asian Taxi Driver. The feel, the music, the pace of the movie, the ending...it doesn't hold a candle to Taxi Driver though.

I give "Audition" 9/10. An odd disturbing film. If you liked it give "Taxidermia" a try... Also odd and disturbing but very artfully done film... 9/10.

I saw it last night with some family and friends and it's still as bad as the first time I saw it. It's one of the dumbest films ever made. The cast sucks, the acting sucks, the story sucks, the dinosaurs suck...pretty much every single frame of that film is an insult to the viewer, like a punch to the balls. All copies of that film should be buried deep underground like a dinosaur fossil so that future generations don't have to find out the kind of garbage their ancestors liked. Let's spare them the embarrassment.

Great film.

Fun Bond movie. Once again, a movie plays to Batista's strengths, and does so very effectively. I like him way more as an actor than I do as a wrestler. My only major criticism was the silly motivations of the main antagonist.

Amazing Spider-man 2: 7/10

Story was pretty generic and predictable. Similar to Spider-man 3 in that there were too many subplots (villains). Andrew Garfield was good, Emma Stone was great, and Sally Field was outstanding. Rhino looked terrible. Jamie Foxx was good but wasn't really in it for that long. I didn't like how quickly Electro hated Spider-man after being obsessed with him before. Electro effects were fantastic though. The Harry Osbourne storyline was unecessary. Wasn't particularly impressed with the score by Hans Zimmer (and I usually love his stuff).

After seeing that ''Creed'' has been received well by those who've seen it I watched Rocky and Rocky II for what I now realise was the first time ever.

Very good films, I think I preferred the second one, I don't know if that's blasphemous to say.

Rocky 8/10
Rocky II 9/10

Stallone really does a good acting job in these films. For some reason I was under the impression he didn't show any decent acting chops until Copland. And Carl Weathers had great charisma as Apollo Creed. I remember from III and IV that they become friends and I'm looking forward to going back and rewatching those as I've forgotten how that comes about.

I'll stretch it out for a few nights though as I'm expecting to be kinda bored otherwise - thinking of skipping the pub this weekend, if I don't pay off Jabba the Hutt I'm a dead man.

I caught Star Trek III: The Search For Spock the other night -- 7.5 / 10.

Kinda boring. :lol Still, it's the old crew & that's cool. Kirk repeating that line when he finds out David's dead is a classic too. Christopher Lloyd as the Klingon leader is pretty cool as well. They've been doing a ST marathon over here on TV recently, so they're playing all of them. I missed IV, V & VI, (seen them years ago), but I can borrow them from a mate anyway if I feel like watching them.

I think First Contact is on next week, but I've only watched that fairly recently again anyway, & I forgot how much like a long TV episode it looked. :lol

Ok, I'll give one of these a try.

Robocop 3 - 2/10

This one one of THOSE movies, the kind everyone has because it came with the box set, but nobody likes. See also: Rocky 5, Godfather 3, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Some geniuses decided that after 2 very hard R rated movies, it would be a good idea for business if they made a PG-13 Robocop. They were wrong. They were so wrong.

What they did right:

Basil Poledouris returns to do the score. I wish I could trade him to Robocop 2 and have Leonard Rosenman do the music for this one instead, it would kick the second one up a notch.

No Peter Weller. He saves himself the embarrassment of being in this trainwreck. Too bad Nancy Allen couldn't find a way to do the same.

Great blu-ray transfer. The movie looks fantastic. Unfortunately, it's a fantastic picture of a turd.

What they did wrong:

Everything else.
PG-13, so no ultraviolence. Gun battles take place 20 feet apart, but nobody seems to get shot and the deaths that do happen are practically bloodless.

That kid. The one that can reprogram ED-209 with her school laptop and can find Robocop's tracking device. Just because kids could program a VCR better than their parents in 1992 doesn't mean this is plausible in the slightest. Compare this kid to Hob in Robocop 2 and you can see how a younger character can work in the Robocop universe. This isn't it.

No Peter Weller, it's just some ******* in a Robocop suit. At least he picked the right movie to turn down.

The pussification of Robocop. He frequently gets knocked on his ass during the fight scenes and he generally seems pretty useless throughout the movie.

The stupidity of Lewis. She doesn't wear her body armor at all in this movie. Someone asks her if whe wants it and she declines because she's "off duty". She then goes with Robocop to the part of Detroit they're currently shooting up. Sure hope nothing bad happens...

Lack of satire. The number of TV spots and news breaks are severely cut down from the first two movies. They wouldn't have saved it, but not having them really shows how far they strayed from the original.

The heavy handed anti-capitalist "Greed is bad" message. Yep, capitalism is EVIL. Now give us money and watch Robocop 3.

Wasting Frank Miller. He gets story and screenplay credit on this one.

I could go on, but I'm sure everyone reading thinks this is too long anyway. Do not seek this one out. It might be cheaper to get the set instead of buying 1 and 2 separately though. If you've already got the box set, you're stuck, but it makes a great coaster. I've never seen the TV show, but it CAN'T be any worse than this movie. At least you get one great movie and one halfway decent movie. If you like the first two, this one WILL make your head explode though. :banghead

I really love the original 1933 movie, but I also like the PJ film for the things it gets right.

It was obviously a labour of love project, & it shows. Good cast, epic scope, some great classic 'monster movie' moments, & I just think it's tremendously cool that PJ acquired the original stop motion Kong model which no doubt inspired him to pay tribute to the '33 film in the most respectful way he could. :)

Pretty good. I enjoyed the light, breezy tone and snappy dialogue. I thought the action sequences were fun, and I thought Cavill was perfect in the role. I think he would do a great Roger Moore Bond, and I don’t mean that as an insult! Although I think the script was calling for someone not quite as buff as he is, because his character kept getting beaten up! And there were some awkward parts where the scene would go quiet because they were concealing a plot point that would be a “reveal” a few minutes later. It felt very forced.

But otherwise, not perfect by any means, but light and fun.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

I've never seen half of the Marvel movies and have been slowly catching up over the month before I finally watch Avengers 2 later this month. I think they're good harmless fun but nothing I would call all time classics, just really well made and thoroughly entertaining dumb movies, and coming into this one knowing nothing about the critical and fan reception, I think this is the best one of the bunch.

Yeah, you can tell he's a fan, and I like most of it. It's the first...30...maybe 40 minutes before they get to the Island that I could go without. Once they get to the island, it's fun. One thing I'm not a fan of is Adrien Brody. He's a good actor, but I didn't like him in that role. He wasn't bad, but it was the same in Predators, I just don't buy him in those kind of roles.

Evil Dead 2013 - 5/10

I liked practical FX, rainy mood, the gal, and partially the score.
Everything else was lame, stupid or boring as hell.

Too many cinematic elements I hate:

1) senceless animal abuse to elicit sympathy from the viewer;
2) poor characters to whom you can't empathize;
3) flashbacks (also, they're irrelevant);
5) blunt anticlimactic finale.

Gore, combined with all of the above, became a dust-to-the-eye thing.
Many more issues were found, but watchin' Jane Levy goin' through so much stuff yet keepin' it real...
Made me appreciate this film a tad more. Worth a watch just to see various aspects of her acting talent.

Yeah, watch the intro of the film, when Snipes is waiting for Stallone in an empty office, and he burns the whole building. The whole time he's laughing, talking, and fighting and by the end of it, he tricks Stallone's character, sending him to jail while he laughs.

Spotlight-10/10

A fantastic film that's often difficult to watch, where Michael Keaton and Mark Ruffalo do some of their best work. I'd really like to see last year's Birdman snub remedied, but, at any rate, yeah. It's not an easy watch, by any means, as the focus on sexual abuse in the Catholic Church leads to some pretty dark places, but it's one of the best films of the year, in my opinion, and very much a thought provoking one.

It was so derivative of other “destiny” or “chosen one” type of sci fi fantasy. The designs were also nothing new. The “skates” that the lead guy wore looked pretty stupid in action. The plot had some unnecessarily confusing parts to it. And the action sequences were dull and uninspired chaos. It’s astounding that these are the same people who did the original Matrix. Hell, even the less than stellar Matrix sequels were better.

But I will say this: if I was a little kid, say probably 6-8 years old, I would think this movie was great.

From the looks of it, TFA is just a big budget fan film. It's a rehash of A New Hope and ESB. In a way, the prequels were more original, but the bad acting, over use of CGI, and poor story telling ruined something that should have been great. On paper, a story about Obi Wan and a young Anakin becoming Vader is better than anything in TFA. Some say that TFA feels like a SW film unlike the PT, but really, it only feels that way because of all the fan service, rather than making an original story that's good and it fits with the OT, which is what Lucas tried to do with the PT...but failed. JJ just made a fan film for SW fans..which is ok, but for people to call it great, is an overstatement.

This seems to be the common argument from reviews I read about it that didn't have a nosebleed from excitement from seeing it. A rehash of old formulas? Yes, but at least it wasn't bad for the people that really looked forward to it. Not defending it, I couldn't care either way.

And you're absolutely right, on paper, the PT was a brilliant idea... and that was as far as it went.

The Force Awakens 8/10- I went into the movie only interested in seeing the original cast and the new villain, but I didn't even think of them when the other characters were on screen. They were great! I can't believe how fast I liked BB-8! Some character developments for the new cast fell flat for me, but the acting made up for it. Despite some weak material, John Boyega and Adam Driver showed off some great acting chops, and I'm really looking forward to seeing performances from them in future films.

As of right now, I'd rank it behind 1. Empire Strikes Back and 2. A New Hope, but I think this could end up being my favorite trilogy. I'm not very familiar with the content outside the Star Wars movies, but TFA makes me want to get into it now! I was fine with just the movies, but The Force Awakens really opened up the universe for me.

Well if this is your gateway into the bigger world that is Star Wars, you may be disappointed to know the books, comics, and video games that preceded it are not connected to this in anyway. There are new books, comics, and video games though so you can get into those on the ground floor. Shattered Empire, Marvel's comic run, and the Battlefront are new canon.

Thanks! I appreciate knowing what's canon or not, because it is the reason why I never had interest in venturing outside the films. Although, I would absolutely love it if Disney allowed someone to tell an alternate version of Anakin Skywalker's story. The only thing that I've read was the Lords of the Sith novel, and I really liked it. I wanted to read the Heir to the Jedi book because I love Luke, but apparently it's really bad, so I decided to save my time and money.

Well the 95% is for freshness, which makes even less sense :lol the quality of the movie is the "average rating" which is 8.3.

It's not Jurassic World...I'll say that much, but it's not great, just safe and predictable. There's a few things they don't explain...but they did show what those little lightsabers on Kylo's weapon can do. That wasn't in the spoiler list :lol

It met my expectations. Knowing it was going to be a strong, nostalgic throwback, I wasn't put off by all that stuff. Just a well crafted film, with some interesting and likable characters on an adventure, interacting with old friends we've all known since we were little kids. In general, I'm not keen on all the films trying to mine nostalgia. But JJ et al. did it well here.

Loved it! Had a grin from ear to ear the whole time. Daughter loved it, but complained about the screen time of her favorite character. Even Wife liked it, nd she is no fan.

Going with 8.5 for now, but feels too early to assign a rating, need to digest more, number may change later.

Guess it can't be great for everyone. Personally, I'm glad it struck the right chords with me, because I had a blast. I'm actually sad for any fan who didn't like this movie, because I'm afraid you may never enjoy Star Wars again.

:lol I actually keep the judging and scores to myself to post here or only if they ask me, I'm not as douchebaggy as I look here, IRL I just make small talk about the movie, I went with a chick, she liked it way more than I did but it was a good cinema going experience, the spectacle alone is worth the ticket.

It was fun. It’s an obvious rip off of Men in Black (although both are based on existing comics), and some Ghostbusters thrown in there as well. The effects were kinda cheap—CGI stuff looked rubbery. But I was able to overlook all of that because it was fun and engaging. Ryan Reynolds was good and had a couple of good lines. I thought he was right for the character and played him well. Mary Louise Parker was great as usual. And Jeff Bridges was great as well.

Hard to rate because it was so damn visceral. But I will say that it was very well done. It's a crime that William Hurt isn't in more films these days.

As a movie? 8/10. Very enjoyable and entertaining. As a Star Wars movie? 5/10. I hated how bleak the galaxy has become since the happy ending of RotJ and Luke's role in the movie. I'll wait and see how the next ones address the unanswered questions and my rating may change. But based off just this one? EU > TFA.

But it was entertaining!

I see what you mean K07. A bit late to the party, but I just saw SW EPVII tonight -- 7.5 / 10

I haven't had the time (or energy) to participate in all the related threads lately, but my first time thoughts are basically that I enjoyed it for the most part. Some things they got really right, & some were either just nostalgia grabs, missed opportunities, or just general fails. I actually thought the last scene was magnificent.

I thought this was as good as the others up to a point. Got a bit silly in the last third. Still, I don't feel like my time was completely wasted. Got the impression from all the Rocky 1 callbacks that this was originally intended to be the last? I know Stallone wasn't happy with it though hence Rocky Balboa, which obviously I will watch next.

Heart of the Sea 5/10 I had read the book and the movie wasn't nearly as good, as is normally the case. Still a good period movie. Would have been nice to see more about how whaling actually worked. For a 2 hour movie, I had no idea where the time went, they missed out on so many details of the journey that occurred.

The Salvation -- 9/10. Simple, straightforward revenge western with Mads Mikkelsen, Eva Green and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Extremely well done. Impressive cinematography. Well acted. Mikkelsen was a solid lead, and Morgan an imposing villain. Eva Green plays a chick who had her tongue cut out by Indians -- but delivered her lack-of-dialogue well.

Just a really good old school western. Highly recommended.
