I think all NOES, Friday the 13th and Halloween should just be watched and not rated. I rewatched all of them (yes all) and it was the nostalgia of a different time (before internet/smart phones), that appealed to me.

If anything hands down to NOES and its effects before the days of CG. Very impressive!!

Evil Dead 2: 9/10
Army of Darkness (International Cut): 7/10

I hadn't seen Evil Dead 2 in ages and I forgot how amazing it is. The balance of horror and comedy is perfect, the camera work is so unique (still!), the editing gives the perfect pace to the film, and Bruce Campbell's acting is legendary.

Re Army of Darkness, I didn't enjoy the International cut as much as I would have hoped. I'm not sure if it is simply that the the film's comedy was too much (and in my age it doesn't appeal to as much as it did in 1993), or that the editing of the film was just not as tight as the theatrical. I remember specific moments from the theatrical that just cut better together (e.g. arrival of King Henry's men, arrival of the souped up medieval car). I need to see that version again to see if the film just didn't age well with me, or it is indeed a better cut to the international.

I think I can apply this to the following series:

Friday the 13th
Jaws
Halloween
Saw
Nightmare on Elm Street
Paranormal Activity
Police Academy

How many others are out there?
There are some exceptions within, but usually when you make a bunch of sequels, they get worse and worse.

Absolutely, and even the ones that weren't great were a lot better than their sequels. For the record, I don't think that Jaws 2 and Halloween 2 were terrible movies, just nowhere near the originals. But a lot of the sequel quality drops off FAST.

I appreciate the older ones for practical effects. I get so sick of seeing everything done with a computer. At least they're starting to get to the point where it can be hard to tell what's done with CGI, at least with smaller things. Big effect shots still look kinda sketchy at times. Imagine them doing the elevator scene in the Shining with CG blood. :gah:

Rom coms are my guilty pleasure and I was meaning to watch this one for a while.

Pretty good, usually when watching rom coms there are moments you go "couldn't you have done this to save you trouble?" at the expense of the drama of course, but this one's pretty tight.

Argo - 9/10

I watched this solely to get a taste of Terrio's writing but I was very etertained.

If BvS' writing is half as good DC is set to have one of the best written CBMs

"You can teach a rhesus monkey to be a director in a day"

"We did suicide missions in the army that had better odds than this"

So many good quotes :lol

Luther (2003) - 9/10

I feel like I posted this last year but this production would have benefited from being made as a miniseries. Two hours isn't long enough and this movie would be confusing/boring to anyone that's not familiar with the events or players of the Lutheran Reformation. But they did a great job with the time allotted. I especially like the casting and the wardrobe.

Speed: 84/100.

One of my favorite films, some good like references of the film. Always liked the cast. Hopper was just a crazy sob but with a funny **** attitude. Reeves was good, but they needed to pick a charter trait. He seemed all over the place. This also was the film that gave me a big huge crush on Sandra Bullock.

I just watched Jupiter Ascending on blu-ray on my new 130 inch screen with Sony High End PJ and 2 massive 18in subs and WOW. The picture was amazing and flawless and all of the space scenes were so black and sharp. The bass was pounding and shaking the whole house at times and the surround sound was all the way around during explosions with debris flying behind me. The movie overall was good, with CGI and Sound a 10/10, but it was still lacking somehow and that's why it gets a 9/10 from me. This movie deserves to be seen on a very large screen and with massive sound to truly be enjoyed.

Wolfman 2010 - 6.5/10

Boring. The film just went through the motions and didn't seem to have any heart or purpose. I think the story had potential, it just wasn't executed well. All the acting was decent to good with the exception of the lead, Benicio Del Toro, who had 0 charisma and overall gave a pretty crappy performance. CGI rivaled that of a sci-fi (Syfy) show. Make-up effects on the other hand were fantastic, as was the Wolfman design. It was scary, life-like, and paid homage to the original excellently.

The Quick and the Dead. 8/10. Shockingly good movie considering it's about a hokey-sounding gunfight contest and the main character is a chick gunfighter (expected a girl-power overtone that wasn't really there, or at least was well underplayed). Stone was good enough. Hackman was badass -- playing essentially the same character he played in Unforgiven. Crowe is always badass. DiCaprio was still in his annoying phase, but he wasn't terrible. Spaghetti western, Justified-style quickdraw contests are always good watching. A surprisingly good western from an era where there aren't enough of 'em.

No way Piccolo, Krillin or Gohan should have a problem with fighting Freiza's men. One was boosted to having the powerlevel of Dodoria or Zarbon... who had a powerlevel of 22,000 to 30,000. So Piccolo, who took on Android 17 and trained Trunks and Goten, has a hard time fighting a guy with a power level at maybe 30,000? Yes, yes I know "He had his guard down". This is dumb. Guard down or not, a simple ray gun wouldnt hurt him. And just because they had an explanation doesnt mean its right. "The world is round because of pancakes". I explained it, therefore, it must make sense. Production quality was higher than I expected. It's good if you are looking for a dumb, fun horror movie. But there's not much to it. Story is as predictable as they come. Effects aren't great. Even the jokes and one-liners seem phoned in.

Class of 1999: 6/10

I would score it higher, but it started dragging for me at the end. Cheesy b-horror movie, but the first 2/3rds were a lot of fun. Ending was an obvious throwback to the ending of the Terminator, but. . .somewhat less effective. Though I didn't notice it in the movie, a song by "The Nine Inch Nails" was listed in the credits.

The Martian 9/10 Much better than expected.
Fury 10/10 - Just a spectacular film
Crimson Peak 6/10 - Decent enough promised more than it delivered.
Mission Impossible:Rogue State 7.5/10 One of the best MI's he's done, much better than expected.
San Andreas 6/10 Ok for a disaster movie but the Rock really can't act.
Spy 7/10 Entertaining flick.

When I really look at it in a broad view, I guess you can say TED is the best one of the series. But, I do love EDII and AOD dearly. It's hard for me to choose if I wanted the series to stay with horror, or the go with the horror/comedy.

As a child of the same time period this movie opens in, I found myself enjoying the nostalgia and actually laughed at many of the jokes. Eh. I think most people agree T:S was a better direction than what T:G delivered. I wouldn't know personally. I am not bothering watching T3 or T:G. T1 and T:S are the only two I care to revisit. T2 is a great flick. But eh. It's long and drags on. I might revisit it in 10 years or so.

I didn't remember the show being this meh, production values are pretty great, but the writing and the acting isn't. I'll give it a shot to see if it gets any better, some characters are pretty cool right off the bat though.

I found out there's a reboot trilogy in the works, if there's a chance they'll execute better what the movie started, I'll take it.

EDIT: I just finished EP2. aaaah s'ok, it picked up a little bit from EP1. I'll keep watching.

I expected more from this movie. Twist was okay... it just seemed like it kept building to something bigger and then that was it.

I agree with your score. 5/10. Not a bad movie, not a great movie. Not worth a re-watch really either. Decent movie, decent twist.

Hey YFB, I caught a repeat episode of 'Celebrity Rehab' the other night (never watch that stuff normally), & they had Mike Starr on there as one of the guest pep talkers for the current in treatment plebs. He looked good too - healthy.

They showed some earlier footage of him talking about Lane's death & how he felt responsible in way, pretty heavy. At the end of the episode, it said that he died in 2012. I didn't know that. :(

I'm a big AIC fan. The first two albums are emblazened into my memory, although I also really dig Jar Of FLies/Sap & the 3leggeddog album as well. Their MTV Unplugged gig was great too, but sad at the same time. Lane was well & truly on the way down by 1996, & his performance there was hard to watch at times.

A schlock fest that had potential, but it was dressed up in all that cheesy 80s gore & silly black humour, that I just sat through it for the sake of watching it once.. but never again. :monkey1

Simon Pegg ,Robin Williams , Kate Beckingsale This movie is ABSOLUTELY ABSURD N crazy stupid some funny parts only thing that saved it was Sexy Kate Beckingsale and Robin Williams voice over comedy. I was hoping this would be good but just No. A film about being able to do absolutely anything with magic powers while supreme aliens judge u on what u do with this power. I feel sad n bad ths was one of Williams last movie. He was pure magic in comedy ,movies always fun we miss u sir. R.i.p I wont rate it. Its just suprsing it was even made.

Jurassic World: 4/10 (and this is probably generous, but it was [barely] watchable)

Dumb, mostly. But also way too overly sentimental and self-referential with the first film. The only parts I enjoyed at all were Pratt, just being a likable character as always, and some of the action scenes at the end when I would switch my brain off a bit. The triple tag team ending was the worst, when the Raptor and T-Rex give each other a look of respect and just walk away. . .terrible.

I will see this again once it comes out on Blu, but I felt this was by far the weakest of all Craig films, and in the top 5 of weakest Bond films overall. The action was mediocre with nothing original, the story was not exciting, Belucci was wasted, Waltz was nothing really, Bautista was just a big guy, the homages seemed forced, the car chase had not excitement or originality, the film was just not fun...I could go on. People are saying Craig's acting was phoned in, but I think he did fine. Problem was, he wasn't given much to work with.

Probably the only thing I really really liked was the music in this one (but didn't like the credit song though).

I have only seen the first one. It was ok. Dumb. But not horrible. I had no desire to ever bother with sequels but with seven of them, I just don't know. If they popped up on Netflix I'd give them a whirl. The action looks so over the top and stupid that it could be fun.
