Jurassic World - 2/10 gets one point for Bryce Dallas' sweaty chest :drool and one point for the raptors.

Dumb story, dumber script ( Like they didn't even try ), generic forgettable characters, FX were mostly ok, raptors were awesome, I loved them, just a very mindless and aimless movie, I was partly entertained by the action, and partly entertained cause we're laughing at how dumb the whole thing was, so yeah, it's pretty entertaining, this is what summer blockbusters have to be according to some, new benchmark for sure.

It didn't even feel like a Jurassic Park movie, not even with the fanfare in some moments, not even with the original park locations, just a generic monster movie, it didn't know what it wanted to be, it had no purpose neither did the characters, tonally it was all over the place, it has no theme, or it may have but it's most likely stupid if its theme is an analogy of movie trends or crap like that because this movie is exactly what it complaints about.

This is Transformers with Dinosaurs, this is Bay-tier stuff and nothing more, how some people can defend cash grabs like these for the sake of "being entertained" explains exactly why Bay gets away with this stuff.

It's funny thinking back on the last spy movie I saw him in--Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy--about how different those films and his roles were, but both were quite excellent films. Mark Strong was also an important character in both that shared a close relationship with Firth's character.

I haven't seen that one, I just remember the trailers were excellent and you could feel the intrigue, and well, Mark Strong is great in everything he does, he needs to come back as Sinestro.

It's in many ways the anti-Kingsman. No crazy action scenes or effects, no inspirational music, no Obama head explosions. And it's a slow burn. A complex, suspenseful, moody, procedural movie with more fleshed out, three dimensional characters. Both are fantastic though. If that seems up your alley, you should give it a look.

Jurassic Park - 10/10 How the hell do we go from thinking this was a good movie, to thinking that other new one is a good movie? Like 71% good :dunno

15 minutes in, JP already had 3 times more personality and character than the entirety of JW, hell, it had a stronger theme than JW at that point, ****ing Grant getting 2 female ends of a seat belt? Tying them up together, "life finds a way"?.

****ing dinner table debate on the ethics of genetics? All that **** even before the action started.

Ian Malcolm, what a ****ing rockstar.

The whole "I hate kids but now I like them" actually makes sense here, like everything else they regurgitated on JW.

Impressive how the CGI holds up so well, look even better than the prequel trilogy and even movies that came out later, it doesn't look wonky today and if it ever gets to look outdated, well it doesn't matter, cause it has a mattress of actual substance to fall on, every single thing happening on screen is more captivating and truly entertaining than the "best" scene in average CGI JW.

I could go on and on on how great this movie is, why the hell do we have to settle for Bay-tier stuff now? Inb4 "B-but w-we weren't expecting it to be better than t-the original".

Hell, I watched Independence day the other day and it's also waaay better than JW and most summer blockbusters these days.

Hot damn, now that's another review you've knocked right out of the park :yess:. Yeah, there were so many subtle nuances that made JP great. Like you mentioned, Grant's character development was handled very well. Then, there was Ian Malcolm's debates on "life" and chaos theory that served as a moral compass for the story. I think the CGI holds up very well to this day, and the movie benefited tremendously from Stan Winston's designs that were used in animatrionics. Remember the scene when the baby raptor was hatching from the egg? That ALONE had more emotion, that the pretentious drivel from JW. And then at the end of the scene, ominous music starts to play, which tells you that Grant was holding a deadly monster in his hands. Again, subtleties.

I really liked Independence Day, too - much more JW. It's actually hard to dislike any movie with The Goldblum :lol.

I know, you share the characters' excitement, I was thinking "holy ****, dinos!", and JW had me like "meh, dinos" :lol

JW had a point, I was totally unimpressed by it and it was the 1st time I saw it, but then again, I watched JP again for like 20th time and it's 10x more gripping, so dinosaurs and trends are not the problem, your ****** quality is :lol

Great review. JP had so many layers to it, and felt way more than the standard Avengers Dinosaur film. I'd say 95% of the CGI holds up in JP, with only one or two that I find questionable. All the actors and their characters are excellent, but I think Attenborough truly sold the film. I completely bought his character, he did it so naturally. "Welcome, to Jurassic Park!" "I'll show you."

BTW the belt buckle observation is great, I never noticed that.

It's a very cerebral monster film, if that's the right way to describe it. Questioning the morality of creating and imprisoning these extinct creatures.

JP >>>>>>>> JW. It's not even a contest. I enjoyed JW. I expected it to be crap. It might have been but it was entertaining and enjoyable to watch so I didn't notice. I don't think it's on par with Bayformers. I only saw the first Bayformers and hated it. I didn't like a single character and it felt like a chore to sit through. JW ( at least the single viewing I gave it) didn't feel like a chore. JP is a far better film in every regard. None of the sequels come close to being as good.

Everyone rates things differently around these parts. Is this pure enjoyment score or are you judging all the technical aspects? Just curious what part holds it back for you.

That's a movie where I wouldn't change a single thing. I can't put it on as a background noise filler movie when I clean the house or grade papers. I just get sucked in and can't look away. It's my favorite Nolan movie.

Transformers: Age of Extinction - 6,154,599/9,999,899

This was everything I expected from a Bayformers movie: loud 'splosions everywhere, gratuitously used slow motion close-ups, a slutty dressed young woman (no complaints from me there), cheesy and passable acting with the human characters, and lots and lots of robot action with Transformers tearing each other apart. The movie was released in 2014 and I saw it a year later. But, I can see how it was a good summer blockbuster. Unfortunately, I don't don't want to go into too many plot details in case there's anyone else who likes Bayformers, and hasn't seen this one as yet. But, if you do like what The Bay has done with this series, you won't be disappointed with this movie. I'm looking forward to the sequel, too.

Yeah, it's funny how Marky Mark found a robot sword gun his size among the GIGANTIC weapons in the armory. I didn't even know that Prime had rocket boosters... where was he even flying to?

The movie was really stupid in a lot of ways, but meh, I don't expect The Bay to have a high caliber of cinematic mastery... or logic, for that matter. Me see robots, explosions, Optimus Prime, me like.

In any case, I think I need to update my current rating, because it doesn't make sense. So, I'll give Transformers: Age of Extinction - one Mike Tyson / Michael Bay and whoever the heck that Asian chick is the middle.

^That can't be right. Khev's statistics and have consistently showed that every cinema has doubled their capacity for Jurassic World, every hour, of every day. One seat for two people, one person sitting on top the other. People are even filling the isles and sitting in the projector rooms. My local cinema has even demolished all of their walls, so they can have one huge screen showing Jurassic World around the clock. Yankees Stadium has also canceled all future baseball games for the foreseeable future so they can show Jurassic World all day, every day.

Mine was inexplicably packed even to the point that my reserved seats were taken and I had sit in the front ****ing row, where there really shouldn't even be any seats IMO, it was unwatchable at that distance, especially in 3D.

I wasn't wowed, I don't know. Some good visuals, a few nice dialogue moments between Fass & Mac. I liked that Beast looked less like a Koala this time. I love the spectral realm in this franchise, very metaphysical, I love some of the camera work in this movie, the make up and practical FX, all that stuff, fantastic.

Pace is ok, it builds up quite nicely, eventually the main characters for me aren't the actual protagonists but Elise and her 2 nerds who turn out to be actual characters, Elise is this Ripley-esque hero for sure :lol

The speech is very good, for sure - it's a perfect ending to the film thematically. But I agree that it's the only real place in the film where the pacing falters. I've seen the movie twice now and it still feels a little odd.

I just finished reading the book by Cormac McCarthy. It's a thrilling read, and the film is really very faithful with only one or two different story beats here and there.

The kingsman - 9/10. Very enjoyable and refreshing take on the spy genre, quite funny too. Bought this after watching.

The Babadook - 6/10 The movie started strong and stayed quite creepy and interesting for a solid hour. While I understand the metaphor at play in this film, the ending was quite laughable to me and really should have been rewritten. The child actor started out creepy but became annoying by the end. Still, on the strength of the first hour alone it is worth seeing.

Ex Machina - 7.5/10 Very entertaining sci-fi that never drops the ball. While many of the twists are predictable, I didn't care.

The Cobbler - 6.5/10. A decent Sandler film that could have been even better if it went for a less upbeat more sentimental ending. Still enjoyable to watch, if only to marvel at Sandler not completely wasting 90+ minutes of film.

For those that have seen The Cobbler... I thought the "super hero" ending was just wrong in tone for this movie. I would have like to have seen Hoffman say his peace to his son and simply leave the store. Sandler could have followed him outside, only to see people he didn't recognize because his father managed to slip on another pair of shoes and disappear into the crowd. To me, this would have given the film the poignant ending it was crying out for.

The beginning credits sequence with Sho Kosugi doing his demo is excellent, it really envokes that classic era feeling of when these cult films were at their best. I love Sho Kosugi. :rock The training sequence is cool too.

The rest is a mixed bag. The white martial arts guy (Franco Nero) taking on the mob in Manilla, & ultimately winning.. is lame. Poor man's Chuck Norris syndrome. horrible acting & dialogue as you'd expect, & the comic relief baddie was atrocious.

Still, it has it's merits as a decent classic martial arts flick.

Legend: Director's Cut - 5/10

A feast for the eyes! It was beautiful to look at. The sets, make up, and effects were great. But I found the story to be lacking, the characters to be mostly boring, and the action to be dull. The five rating is solely for the fact that I couldn't help but feel I was really in a different world without The overuse of CGI like in today's movies.

I bought this used and see the edition I have also contains the theatrical cut. I might give that one a whirl before I completely write this off.

Predestination - 6/10. While I did enjoy this movie on some levels, I can't fully endorse it given that the impetus for creating time travel in the first place is a paradox. Just about every time travel movie has at least one paradox in it, but this one has so many that it just defies logic.

Still, you at least had to think about the movie for a little bit in order to weed through the impossibilities.

You know, that was difficult to rate next to Gladiator. I haven't seen it in ages either until over the weekend... but it's notched higher than I used to rate it. I don't know if I can pick one over the other... but Braveheart is more based on actual history than Gladiator while Gladiator is more based on things that had nothing to do with each other and were combined to make a film.

"Braveheart" without a doubt.

1. Better story
2. Better characters
3. Better cinematography
4. Better actors
5. Better music

"Gladiator" has a very basic story and gets more and more bland with every viewing.
"Kingdom of Heaven" is a little better than "Gladiator" because of the story.

The best parts of the movie for me, that I consistently enjoy, are the pre-slave Maximus scenes in the beginning. Specifically the battle against the Germans. Very impressive.

Better music? Really?
A fact it is.
_

"Gladiator" music has too many things from other's work and just too similar to Zimmer's previous/next scores.
Lisa Gerald's singing is the only part that truly stands out.
_

Horner's work was always very simple yet magnificent.
Braveheart's two main themes are very short by speak volumes.

I don't know why I expected famous theories, tense buildup and satisfying payoff, this movie is a bad creepypasta, if you like paranormal stuff, you're better off watching the 4th kind, that's how ****** this is.

Zero character, zero plot, zero execution, just 4 people, on a dumb road trip to Area 51 which apparently has worse security than my place :lol and laughably retarded depiction of Aliens.

It's worth a watch, yeah. :lol

I think it was one of those straight to VHS / DVD deals, & I think it came out around 1998. It's like a really earnest student film, complete with poor actors. The story is actually kinda cool; a slightly disfunctional family, getting together for their token yearly catch up, then as they're arguing about something trivial.. there's a huge flash of light outside. Bad weather clouds their view of what it might be, but.. the men go outside to.. investigate. :lol

There's a fallen craft, some activity around it, & things escalate - quickly. To be fair, there's actually the odd genuinely creepy moment or two in the movie, so it's not completely bad.
