Rescue Dawn - 9/10 - Wow...just...wow.

I usually do not watch war movies...lousy ones just piss me off and good ones like Saving Private Ryan and this one disturb me. I am not sure why I have a hard time watching them...when I was in the Marines, I really didn't experience any real combat trauma. But I think I developed a very strong empathy for those who did.

My wife wanted to watch this one so I just tagged along for the ride and could not pull myself away from the movie.

I recommend you watch Little Dieter Needs to Fly. As good as Rescue Dawn is, I think the documentary (also directed by Werner Herzog) is better.

X-men 3 - 4/10 This was the first time I've watched it since it came out in the cinemas. I forgot how bad it was. The first two films felt more intimate and were concerned with charachters rather than big explosions. This one is the exact opposite and by the time Magneto destroys the bridge and all CGI gets let out of the bag I lost any interest in what was happening on screen. The scene between Jean and Wolverine at the end was emberassing.

My god, what a bad movie. I can understand films that don't take themselves seriously, but this was something else... The Spirit had so many ridiculous monologues and broke the 4th wall twice.

Perhaps Miller was going for the camp of the 60s, but the film was seriously vomit inducing.

The Hurt Locker 8/10. Almost more of a horror/suspense genre than war movie, since you're always wondering if one of the bombs is gonna blow up in their faces. Most of the action is defusing IEDs, but there is also a shootout that starts out with full auto and ends up being decided by sniper rifles. Some of the smaller roles taken by Guy Pearce, Ralph Fiennes, David Morse and Evangeline Lilly.

Worth seeing.

I've seen quite a few Lynch films, and yeah I agree they're all filled with freaky stuff. Mulholland Dr is probably my favorite because its Lynch's most complex narrative. I also love Twin Peaks.

I'll rate the Lynch films I've seen (aside from Blue Velvet):

Eraserhead 7/10 The movie is the epitome of freaky ^^^^. I've seen it twice and I still don't understand a lot of it.

Elephant Man 8/10 great movie. can be quite sad.

Fantastic moive.

Well, the last week I've sat through a lot of movies. A recent thread made me watch Star Wars 1-6.

The Phantom Menace - 7/10
Attack of the Clones - 7/10
Revenge of the Sith - 9/10
A New Hope (Revisited) - 8/10
The Empire Strikes Back - 8/10
Return of the Jedi - 6.5/10

For the record, I've seen every theatrical release of the movies in the theater except the original unaltered Star Wars, I saw ANH in '79.

Top 3 scenes:
Yoda explaining The Force to Luke in ESB.
Palpatine revealing himself as a Sith Lord to Anakin in ROTS.
Luke saying "I am a Jedi, like my father before me." to the Emperor in ROTJ.

It's funny, most SW fans slam the prequels as inferior. While watching all six together, the prequels are cut from the exact same cloth as the originals. The acting is the same, the dialogue is the same and they both have bad camp. Oh well, no to wait for the super bluray set that will come out.

Smokey and the Bandit - 8/10 - Sheriff Buford T. Justice is the greatest vilain ever created. There is also no one more quoteable. "Give me a diablo sandwich, a Dr. Pepper, and make it quick, I'm in a god damn hurry!"

Halloween (2007)

Well...I guess about a 5.5/10. Started out well enough with the kid that Hancock threw into the air as the young MM. But the grown-up guy wasn't really scary. And the terror from the victims just was not done very well.

Edit - And one example of the shallowness of the film was when the Sheriff found his daughter sliced up, but alive, and didn't even cover her boobs with his coat.

I guess the nudity and the gore were just a little TOO gratuitous.

Rob Zombie is like that, though.

Interesting ending. The little girl's acting skills were superb for her age. Some of the scenes meant to scare the audience were pretty predictable. Found this one interesting but overall I thought it sucked really.
It seemed to play on the suffering and whilst I guess that was something important to the plot it just seemed a little weird watching it over and over again.
This type of movie has never been my thing though. It had such an interesting subject to play with but did it all wrong in my opinion.

Funny People 6.3/10

A not-so-funny Adam Sandler movie, mixed with unpredictable Drama, and foolishly idiodic dialogue provided by the wonderfully mindless Seth Rogan and his brat pack(the same friends we see in every other Seth Rogan film). It was certainly not my type of comedy film and I wouldn't recommend it if you're an Adam Sandler fan. You'll be saying to yourself during the film "Is it just me, or did this movie start 2 and a half hours ago?"

I had to chime in on this one. I saw it as well and couldn't agree more. The first half was strong and it had a lot of potential, but the second half....well, I don't want to even get into that. :sick The second half was bad enough to cancel out the good that the first half had going for it.

Summary: It was bad. As in, I want my money back from renting it.

WHAT?!?! This movie was great, I wouldn't say the best but I really enjoyed it and no where do I think it deserves a 1 out of 10.

Yeah it's at least a 4, but I thought it was pretty bad too to be honest.

Same. The FX were good, but the story was kinda blah. Maybe even a 6.5.

Wanted - 1 out of 10

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Ever.

Yeah...I tried three different times to watch this on cable....coulfdn't stay interested...the lead guy was just annoying as hell and Jolie looked like she was sleepwalking. Unwatchable.

Watchmen Director's Cut on Blu-ray.

10/10 - Simply fantastic!! Love the additions, and it looked and sounded amazing.

Agreed...it's a rare thing when the footage is put back into something that it actually makes it better...and it sure did. Amazing film...

Gonna check out District 9 later...want to see it before I hear too much more...

I know, I'm quite shocked myself. Raiders of the Lost Ark is one of the best Action/Adventure films ever made in the last century. It's on my Top 10 list of All-Time Favorite films. But I guess not everyone has Indy in them....

I hate using decimal increments in scoring films, but with District 9 I feel like I have to make an exception. It grasps at greatness, doesn't quite reach them.

No, it wasn't life-changing or genre-defining or anything like that. Just a solid, beginning-middle-end script, good editing/pacing, good performances, serviceable-competent effects and....

...this summer, it has the added virtue of not being a sequel, based on a toy or a television show!

Pretty good flick!
