Oldboy 8/10 I liked the style, the story was pretty twisted and engaging, overall pretty good movie, lives up to its cult following.

However I have a hard time telling why is Oldboy so praised and A Serbian film or Martyrs so hated.

I think a 7.5 would solve this.

I would agree with this. 7.42 maybe.

Overall I liked it more than the first one. Not sure why they called it "Age of Ultron" his reign was what, less than a week? Another weak ass Marvel villain. I hope Thanos is better.

Supes vs Zod still had more destruction.

Loved the Mjölnir contest scene. Witch was hawt.

I would rank it 4th on the new Marvel flicks.

Love any scene that had to directly do with Mjölnir, and agreed Witch was hot, and with the N.A, she was too hot to handle. :naughty

Yeah MOS destruction tops this, but I think the Hulk buster was still pretty destructive.

For me to justify the title is like a memory. I doubt they'd be like, hey Avengers; remember when we took out that one Hydra base? It's all the same unless something happened like Clint getting hit. It'd be more like, remember when Ultron ****ed us all up? That's just for me. Even though, yeah, he lasted like 4 days.

Probably too much stuff in there, which affects pacing, which affects storytelling. But what they did they did very well. Good stuff. Whedon leaving on a high note.

The Station Agent: 6.5/10

Worth watching for the performances, but not a very compelling story when all is said and done. I watched this because I wanted to see an "anti-Avengers 2" movie, and it did succeed at being that! Not a single explosion or killer robot in this one.

A lot of people are giving it pretty mediocre scores. I'm not a fan of the MCU, but I feel bad for anyone that got all hyped for nothing.

Well, I don't have an investment in the film either way, but it just seems like most people on here didn't like it or thought it was just okay. But of course you got the folks throwing 10/10s around like it was Goodfellas 2 or something.

It was good, it's just certain things felt out of place. Thor's whole cave journey in particular but also Hawkeye's secret farm life and the abrupt love angle between Hulk and Black Widow. Also, as much as I liked Ultron, he slowly became a joke. More comic-relief than threat. Minor issues though. Lots of funny moments and eye shattering action sequences. Overall I liked it.

Interesting story that effectively shifted directions a couple of times. Extremely well made, and all the actors did a great job. The Truman Show - 5/10

For many centuries we unsuccessfully tried to understand who we are and why we are. A science experiment? Slaves? Pawns in some twisted game? Perhaps we were created specially to serve the fun of someone out there whom we call "gods"? All these topics are bottomless sources for science-fiction, but while one person will create a truly philosophical and timeless work out of them... another one would use his ideas to piece together a very basic product to sell.

There's a big difference between "smart satire" and "pretentious melodrama".
One very popular pretentious melodrama that jump-started the era of Reality TV.

It's a pretty dang fun movie, but you have to hold your brain in check a bit. After it was over and I started questioning some of what happened, a lot of it just doesn't make any sense. But if you roll with the logic presented to you in the movie it works well enough. Another very solid Tom Cruise action movie. He's not hitting homeruns with his movies, but he does hit double after double. Batting average is higher than almost anyone else. The Ted Williams of movie stars.

I didn't mind Godzilla. Though I absolutely was against the casting of AJT. His best role for me is Kick-Ass and even that is stretching it. But since I'm a hypocrite and love AoU, I'll say he's pretty great in that. :lol

The Wolf of Wall Street: 8.75/10

Alright, I have to say this is definitely an awesome movie, I'll even admit that it may even land in my top 10 favorite films.

I suppose I'll go through what was good, first off; casting was great, I think it was a pretty good cast, though I don't think any one was absolutely stellar in their roles. Leo was fun to watch, easily; I think he does a good job as becoming this money obsessed sociopath. Plus I think his last role that I enjoyed was in The Departed. So it was nice to get something out of it; I'd think that Matthew McConaughey was a bit underused, especially who someone had a quick role as a mentor to Belfort. And Margot Robbie is just gorgeous. :drool

Soundtrack was a bit WTF. I mean I get Scorsese going for some humor; but frankly it was just a little bit out there.

Timeline was super choppy, **** it's just jumping all over the place. At one point it's six months in the future, and then it's 2 years, and then 5 and so on.

I'm glad Jordan wasn't killed or anything, because post-death narrations piss me off. American Beauty would have been a lot better, but since it's Spacey and Mendes; they apparently get a pass.

I'd certainly recommend this movie to anyone kind of going for something "what the ****" and taking a break from CBM, action flicks, or horrors and so on.

And I perfectly understand why. Doesn't mean it's great, far from it.
Karen Page had no reason to exist, for example.

In terms of personal enjoyment...
D'Onofrio and Leonard Moore were the best parts of it and their characters were the most interesting.
Which is really bad because I didn't care for protagonists - they were really boring and bland.

I didn't really care for the Road Warrior personally but judging the previews for this, it looks like a worthy successor to the original series. I'm happy for Mad Max fans. The fact that Mel is typically hated by folks these days also makes the recasting an easier pill to swallow.

Mad Max: Fury Road - 10/10

Taking traditional action movie gender roles, soaking them in gasoline, and tossing in a lit match -- while simultaneously giving us the most unforgiving vehicle action of the decade (hell, probably the century) -- brilliant. The fact that the vast majority of critics praised this carnage-loaded endeavor is even more impressive.
I've been recommending the brilliantly twisted thing to every moviegoer I've come across, only to encourage them to support the kind of summer blockbusters we need more of. Given that it's a hard R, Fury Road needs all the ticket money it can get to warrant a sequel. I'd love to see more of Max's world with the technology we have today. Originals were lots of fun, but this... this is something else (also Hardy and Theron did excellent jobs). Bring on Mad Max: Furiosa!

It's nice seeing something like this and Fury Road, where the movies know exactly what they are supposed to be, and excel at that, rather than something like Age of Ultron, that wants to be 5 different kinds of movies, and to do about 100 different things, and as a result doesn't do much of it well at all, and you leave the theater thinking that it just wasn't as fulfilling a movie-going experience as it should have been.

El Loco Max: Fury Road - 9/10 it's pretty remarkable how GM achieved to bring you into a rich world with almost no exposition and tell a compelling story with minimal dialogue, the images speak for themselves.

Also, if felt like a crazy 80's movies, like what would 80's movies be like if they were made today.

The Wolverine.

A surprisingly personal and grounded (at least in superhero terms) which at least tries not to just be another dumb superhero flick. A solid and thoroughly entertaining movie that's leagues ahead of the previous installment. Nitpicks and minor gripes aside, I would say it pretty much the Wolverine movie I've been waiting to see ever since I first saw Hugh Jackman playing the character 15 years ago.

A poorly written movie without purpose nor logic. A film lacking in substance nor is it entertaining to watch. I could never understand what is the big deal about Damian Wayne judging what I'm seeing in these two movies. I'll take Batman & Robin over this bore fest any day.

:exactly: seems like the only things to look forward to from DCA is the Arkhamverse right? And maybe the Gods and Monsters stuff.

The animation was good though.

Damian is a pretty cool character, and in the comics the story is great, but in here, as of lately, they get big ass stories and cram them into a tiny tiny time space, so loses all redeeming qualities.

There will be more? I'm just disappointed that they didn't go anywhere with Damian beyond empty promises. Bear in mind I'm not familiar with the comic arc of the character so I might be missing something. For all I know, Damian might an awesome character just poorly translated to a movie.

Thanks for explaining the character. I guess this was made for people who read the books. But yeah, the animation was slick and the fight scenes were super cool. Not sure how the villain managed to shoot Batman with his own Batmobile though. :lol

X-Men: 8/10

I recently started reading the Ultimate series, and I really enjoyed them, I can see a lot of correlations between this and the books. My first issue I had with the film was casting. I get that they should have been a bit older than their teen counter-parts (one reason I'm stoked for AoA), but I just feel they were a bit too old for their roles. Though, I have to say Marsden was spot-on as Cyclops, and honestly I wasn't a big fan of HJ as Wolverine; but he grew on me over time. I still to this day think Halle Berry was the absolute worse choice as Storm. Also not a fan of the accent, at times it just ****ted itself. Also said, she didn't work on it; I'm certain it would have been better. NOt super big on Paquin, but I don't think she was horrible as people make it out to be. I rather like her in this and X2, but I think Singer and the studio could have had a field day with her powers. I'm not big on the whole draining, and have to hold on to imitate powers, I'd rather they just do the usual where it kind of builds her arsenal.

Stewart isn't a bad Xavier, I just never liked the character; and McKellan isn't bad either. I personally would have gone for more classic look of Magneto, some super fitted guy with long white hair. His overall appearance didn't seem menacing to me. Though I suspect the reason I can settle with it, is his overall look and demeanor in LoTR.

Last time I saw this, I was 11 years old, and honestly I didn't care for **** about story; so now that I can actually pay attention and understand it: I think it's quite original. :lol

I never understood the purpose of Rogue, but I'm actually glad she was kind of the purpose of the film. Though I still would have done something, for lack of a better word, better.

Costumes are horrendous, but I can see why they felt the need to go this way; I'd personally have liked some form of the Lee versions, but in a practical sense. What definitely sets me off is how ****** Sabretooth was, and why the **** isn't Mystique wearing either the leather suit, or my personal favorite, white cloak. But as an 11 year old kid, seeing a pretty much naked woman was a blessing. :lol

Also puns; stop the ****ing puns. They sucked ass.

Some references were quite funny like Park doing his Maul's double blade spin with the pipe. :rock

The quality of the film wasn't bad, some solid use of practical effects, didn't seem too outdated with FX, and the music was great; also nighttime photography was good. It was just the other little things (love Jean with longer hair and what not). :lol

X-Men 2: 7.25/10

Much like the first, I still had issue with some casting. Some grew a bit more on me. Berry still is terrible, but had her occasional moments, Jean with short hair looks like **** to me (trivial, I know):lol

Pyro always seemed like a *****, I still like Paquin, but her relationship with Wolverine is sketchy. Another thing I felt was a bit awkward in the first film. Ashmore as Bobby Drake is now a personal favorite IMO, and Cummings isn't bad as Nightcrawler; though his overall design is something else entirely different I wasn't fond of.

Again, I was 11 when I saw this and I can't tell you enough how I never understood **** (I might be retarded, lol). So this story was very lacking. The whole Stryker killing off with Cerebro felt too bashful, I'd go with some sort of revenge maybe against Prof. It seems a lot of these films are pointed with Wolverine as head liner, which I can understand seeing as he is a favorite; but his search for answers never exceeded more than the story itself. Besides, with several Wolverine solo films; it'd make sense to headline someone else. But one thing that I did enjoy was Hu as Lady Deathstrike (this woman is absolutely gorgeous, she looks amazing right now as a 46 year old. :thud:)

But I feel the entire Logan vs Yuri fight is overrated and praised way too much. It wasn't anything amazing, despite the fact I've seen plenty of CBM since. Honestly I felt the Wolverine vs. Mystique from the first was much better. Hell, I'd take Blade or Elektra vs. Daredevil before this (not the playground scene, watching a 4 year old guzzle milk was more entertainment).

Though the downfall of Lady Deathstrike was emotional.

FX are surprisingly good even to this day. I agree the Nightcrawler intro in the White House was badass. Music was solid, but some overall CGI felt cheesy like the whole Jean lifting the jet and going Moses.

Overall, solid film but way too praised, along side with SM2; but that will be for a different review.

6.5/10

It was pretty good for what it was. Slick action sequences, well paced and good performances for the most part. I would have enjoyed it a lot more but for the fact that I can't look at Samuel Jackson these days without wanting to punch him in his smug face.

And Princess Tilde, wtf? The gag wasn't funny, the end scene didn't fit with either character and it denied the alternative character arc resolution that had been set up with Roxy.

The Iron Giant (1999) - 7/10

Pretty good. Was surprised to see that Brad Bird directed it when the credits popped up at the end. I was expecting more with all the praise I've heard over the years.

Cool World (1992) - 1/10

Pretty much one of the worst films I've ever seen. Like carve your eyes out with a fork bad. I watched it once in 1992 or 1993 and hated it and was curious to see how it played today. You know, maybe it was "ahead of its time" or something. Nope.

Anne Hall (1977) - 8/10

I've shunned Woody Allen for basically my entire life but I've been working to fill in some iconic gaps in my movie watching lately and decided it was time to give this one a try. Growing up knowing that it beat Star Wars for Best Picture (the outrage! :lol) didn't help me want to give it a chance. It was very well done and I can see why the Academy chose to recognize it. So many unconventional filmmaking choices that were somehow still considered cutting edge years and even decades later. Breaking the fourth wall, animated interludes, splitscreen flashbacks, and I thought the jokes still held up. His irritation at the one guy in line behind him at the movie theater loudly "pontificating his opinions about film as if he had a clue as to what he was talking about" was hilarious watching through the filter of today's internet, where such behavior now takes place on a global scale through the wonders of technology.

It's like we've all become cyber versions of both the loud mouth idiot and Woody Allen himself with all the snarky responses. The only thing that has changed is the technology with which we play those roles. Fascinating.

It also was interesting that at the beginning of the movie Allen announces himself as having just turned 40 so it was kind of fun to finally "catch up" with him age wise. Tons of fun cameos too.
