Dat sig is awesome GG!

Make all the jokes you want, seriously, you won't hurt my feelings.

The fact is I'm not the only one who thinks so, just google falling down and rascist/rascism. On the other hand the reaction is just leaving me with a bad taste in my mouth about some of you. Not that my opinion of any of you matters for much of anything, and vice versa.

Deckard

I think you honestly haven't a clue what you're talking about. The movie has one racist character that I can recall, and he's portrayed as a vile ******* with no friends who is ultimately killed for his bigoted beliefs.

Douglas' character is not racist. He even learns how to fire the rocket from a little black kid. He is simply a psychopath who has never been in touch with reality and sees how oblivious he's been all along when he watches his home movies which he remembers very differently. It's why he decides to let himself be killed. He sees that he is what he's been raging against all day.

Duvall? Def not a racist. Has a partner/protege that is Hispanic and he likes very much.

As to others believing it, well, a lot of people also believe Jesus will be back any day now.

Deckard
11-12-2014, 04:23 PM
It's like when people were trying to say Tarantino was racist for making Django. A racist wouldn't make a movie that glorifies a black man murdering white men and being the hero for it.

None taken bud, I did enjoy it. I'm a huge Nolan fan, but unfortunately it does NOT hold up to even the likes of even a movie like Insomnia.

I wanted to rate it higher, but just couldn't, it was boring and lacked all the essentials that make a Nolan movie.. well, a Nolan movie.

Hmm. Perhaps it might actually improve when you know the ending. 6.5 admittedly might be unfair.

Just, when I think of dream/hallucination type stuff I can't help but be reminded of what was the most boring Soprano's episode ever made.

Agreed on the Sopranos episode. I understand why they did it and the concept behind it, but it is my least favourite episode as well.

I wouldn't necessarily compare that to Shutter Island however. I recommend a second viewing. All the subtle nods hinting at the role play make it a very enjoyable second viewing.

"No Retreat No Surrender" - 6.5 / 10

Well.. first time watch - yep. :lol I knew about this film for decades - & for whatever reason, never got around to seeing it - especially with a few of my friends being heavily into martial arts growing up & talking about this film.. I'm even more at a loss for an explanation for not having seen it till now.

Yeah. It's a nice story.. when it's not making you cringe. Karate Kid definitely has it over this for longevity. Those 'Bruce Lee' mentoring scenes.. my god - wtf. He didn't look OR sound like him. That token fat guy was beyond irritating too.

Anyway, the kid playing the main character is likeable enough, & his break dancing friend - while annoying, added some cool scenes, like at the club etc. The real draw though, is the fights, & they were all fairly good. The end with Van Damme was a little cheesy in places, but pretty solid. I actually bought this cheap on DVD, so while it not rocking my world so to speak, I've started my Van Damme library now. Again - always been a fan of his old films, but never bought any. till now. :lol

"The Last Samurai" - 8.5 / 10

Well, another film I haven't seen till now. I've always wanted to sit down properly & watch it, & I finally got the chance last night - loved it. I was tempted to give it a 9, but there were a few 'Tom being Tom' moments I felt, which made me chuckle a tiny bit. :lol

That said - the story, the cast, cinematography, the authenticity in recreating period Japan / the Samurai society, the battle scenes - awesome. All in all - pretty damn epic, & I'm going to buy it. :rock

I was waiting to see what you thought of the movie! I've enjoyed each of his movies so far, so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one. It's not so easy for me to get to the theater, so I think I'll wait for the blu ray if it's not the greatest. It was my second most anticipated movie under Exodus. Hopefully that movie is better! I actually went to see it for a second time last night, I think I'm going to bump my score up to an 8. I caught a lot of things I missed the first time and watching this in IMAX is an experience, I hope you have a good sound system Bane if you plan on watching this on Blu Ray. Not really! I think I'll get by though! If I get used to the finer things, it might make it hard to go back. That's why when I shop for clothes at Target, I pronounce it with an accent-Targét. That's as fancy as I'll get! I'm just kidding.

I'm glad you enjoyed it more the second time. A strong ending is important for the final impression of a film. As much as I liked the Prestige, I felt like it kind of pandered out at the end. It's still a great movie. How were the characters and the acting?

Hahaha @Targét

The acting I thought I was solid from the main cast, McConaughey did a really good job, and I thought Anne Hathaway was incredible. The movie isn't perfect but it's extremely ambitious, I hope we start getting a lot more original science fiction films, superhero films and reboots have pretty much taken over Hollywood.

Oh that's great to hear (Well, I guess the right word is "read," but you know I mean.)! I always liked McConaughey, but never saw much range in his performances, so I'm excited to see that. I've been really impressed with Anne Hathaway, so I'm not surprised by that! Thanks for letting me know!

I don't mind if a movie has plot holes for the most part. I give extra points if it is ambitious. I always think of it like the "Star is Burns" Simpsons episode. Sure "Man Getting Hit By Football," was flawless in it's execution and lived up to it's title, but does that make it a great film? "Pukahontas" had a lot of mistakes with its poor editing, mismatches scenes, awkward dialogue, and a little out there, but it had so much soul! I thought it was a far more dynamic piece of art, and therefore I'd take it any day over something that's safe. Maybe you feel differently, but I believe with all the errors Barney Gumble was a far better film-maker, with his added depth and emotional resonance. In conclusion, the Dark Knight Rises was a great movie and I don't care what anyone says. (I just had to throw that last part in there for no reason! :))

22 Jumpstreet: 6.5/10 I liked the first one much better.

Sin City / Dame to Kill For: 8/10 Like this more than I expected

Locke: 8/10 One of those movies thats very good, but no need to ever watch it again

Edge of Tomorrow: 8/10 Fun movie. I'm surprised more people weren't shooting holes through this one. I guess sometimes people do let themselves have fun.

The Purge: 6.5/10
The Purge Anarchy: 7.5/10

Transformers AOE: 6/10 Gets a 4pt boost just because of DinoBots

300 Rise of An Empire: 7.5/10 Pleasantly surprised. Expected crap.

Nightbreed Director's Cut: 8/10 Enjoyed this a lot. Expected the age to show, but didn't mind it at all.

Grave Encounters: 2/10 Horrible

House of the Devil: 7/10 Nice throwback slowburn.

Afternoon Delight: 8/10 I love meltdown movies.

Hotel Transylvania: 8/10

Scooby Doo 1&2: 7-6/10 First one is a lot of fun.

Maleficent: 7.5/10 Surprised at how dark the tone was. My little girl loved it. We'll watch this one together several times Im sure.

Tired of "comedies" with maybe 3 laughs in the whole film.

Horns - 7.5 out of 10

Stars Mr. Harry Potter. Yes I know the actors name (initials are D and R), but I like calling him by the role that could haunt him for the rest of his career. People may only see him as that, like people see Mark Hamill as Luke, and only Luke. Shutup, I am right!

Anywho, this is a love story wrapped around a layer of a off-beat horror flick that blends itself with some dark comedy flavouring. Definitely worth a first-watch. The critics were too hard on this. Not because it lacks in anything really, but because it's different and doesn't fit in really any genre. I like off-the-wall films that are different. I think people will either fall in love with this one or hate it.

How the F did Birdemic not only get made, but tour more than 60 cities in the WORLD? Me and a couple of friends thought it would be fun to have beers and bad movie night, but this movie was so bad that it wasn't even good. And if you watch interviews with the director, he talks like he is this big time director with heavy influences from Alfred Hitchcock. What?!

Transformer Age if Extinction - 5/10

Was okay. Hound was good, aside from calling everyone bitches. Wahlberg did okay as did the bronzed sweaty hot girl playing the bronzed sweaty hot girl, her boyfriend had the most inconsistent accent I've ever heard.

Tucci and Wahlberg were the only good characters really. Lockdown was cool. Galvatron sucked and the Dinobots just there to sell the toys.

Overall another installment of Michael Bay wrapping an American flag around his **** and jerking off to the military

I am a Transformers fan, and I have to agree.. seeing these makes me sad. Love the effects, but pretty visuals does not make a movie. Storyline makes a movie. Also, found it had a runtime that could have been cut down by a third.

I caught an excellent 'retrospective' documentary last night night on the history of Marvel Comics - it was on TV, & I totally stumbled upon it by chance. Absolutely Loved it.

It was hosted by that young blonde actress from Cap2 - I forget her name. It was pretty damn comprehensive too; it basically chronicled everything from the beginning of Timely Comics, the war period, post war, all the players that shaped the biz - & right up to the movie phenomenon that we're in the midst of right now. Lots of references to the masters like Ditko, Kirby, Romita etc - & lots of great anecdotes from Stan the man.

I'd love to own it on BR, not sure if it's included with one of the recent films or what..

The Wolverine Extended Cut: 7/10

It was miles above the first Wolverine movie. I liked the mood of film, quite different from all the other Marvel movies. Wasn't too crazy about the final battle, less the battle, and more the circumstances behind the battle. Bullet train scene was pretty awesome.

Interstellar 10/10 mind bending experience, the sheer visual nature of the film alone is worth the ticket, story is both epic and personal, very much personal, sure a little sentimental but it's actually the least pretentious I've seen Nolan in recent memory, I can't imagine any fan of conceptual and theoretical physics, or anyone who understands what's happening on-screen not liking this.

I'd say so. Wasn't as dark and messed up as the others, although Min-sik with the kids on video was pretty disturbing and they didn't even show anything. I put Oldboy obviously over the other two.

Near Dark 6/10 lots of style but no substance, interesting characters that eventually get no depth and some good performances (Henriksen, Goldstein and Bill Paxton being Bill Paxton) but most of the performances are bad, a script as dumb as it gets, very poorly written would be a compliment, too bad since the story was so interesting.

Dude, that's pretty harsh.. I haven't seen it yet, but I've read generally great things about it, like 'one of THE best vampire films ever' etc.

The Hobbit – DOS EE 8/10

I love the Hobbit and LOTR movies. I can watch them over and over and over again!

Only two things Im not a fan of in DOS is the character design of Beorn (never like it). And the dwarves running around with Smaug in the Lonely mountains. I feel that for this 1/2 hour the story completely stops and we just see them running around. “Hey Smaug over here…hee heee heee……….No Smaug we are over here….hee hee…"

I agree with you on this one. Paxton's vampire was great, but apart from that? Based on the concept and actors from Aliens who got brought over, it really should have been more than it was. Still one of the top '80s vampire movies for me, though. Better than Lost Boys, not as good as Fright Night.
