That's a GREAT movie. Haven't seen the second one yet.

I started watching the second one last night but fell asleep (no reflection on the movie). It was looking like a really good film in its own right, ie not resorting to the same formula that made the first one great. I think I'll start over with it again tonight. It's really cool to see a non-Chinese or American action flick that has solid casting and production values. I'll be watching both of these a few times I think :)

The Raid 2 -7/10 -The story is ok, the fighting is great, some of the fight scenes are way too long, but it has the best car chase scene I've ever seen.

Take Shelter - 8.8/10

Mud- 9/10

American Ninja - :dunno/10 - I like it :lol

Temple of Doom/ Indy -7/10 - Still a nice movie. Most of that film is a rip off of other films, unfortunately, but it's good.

Just saw this. Came out this weekend. 7/10

Its awesome in a 80s throw back kind of way. Its reminiscent of terminator, Halloween, John carpenter films. The only issue i had was that everyone else except the lead was kind of weak. The way the layers unfold on the character and the film spirals into total choas is pretty awesome. Also felt the trailer did nothing to actually paint this film in it's actual light as this is more of a slow burn thriller that does not have a hero character, there is no good guy.

If this film were made in the 80s it would be a John Carpenter movie starring Kurt Russell.

It's kind of like Drive in tone and use of a synth sound track but I found this more entertaining.

I watched EoT and Godzilla on Blu over the weekend. I liked Godzilla more this time, as compared to when I saw it in the theater. EoT was a first time watch. Wasn't expecting much, but it was a really nice surprise. Guess I'll get the graphic novel as well. It'll be the second time that I'd like to read the book after watching a movie (Noah being the first one).

Been a long time since I saw a movie with very less dialogues. Quite an uneasy experience, I'd say; majorly because most of the time Dwight was clueless about what he should do next / how to go about things. Good watch for someone who's into the 'revenge' genre.

Maze Runner - 5.5/10

Interesting premise ruined by annoying teen actors, bad acting and cheesy dialogue.

Why did the Reavers even exist in the first place?

I can sort of understand the desire to test the kids and their ability to problem solve, think creatively, but why create an enemy so difficult to defeat. I had a hard time believing that they could fight off any of the Reavers with the exception of the first one.

Hope the book was better than this.

Secret Life of Walter Mitty - 6.5/10

Oddly enough, where this movie really seems to fall on it's face is during Walter's daydreams. Too often played for laughs (Benjamin Button, why?) that never materialize, they really were over the top in a bad way. Which is too bad, because you would think those sequences would give us a better, closer look into the character, instead they went for flash over substance or cheap laughs. Without the daydram sequences I would rate this much higher.

Yeah, a machete, which makes sense, but I didn't like the design. My favorite knives are the ones from part 1 and 2. He used the part 2 knife in Rambo 4 in a deleted scene, so that was pretty cool. Hopefully he goes back to using the original survival knife for part 5.

EVILFACE

I think the design fit the tone of the film. A crude barbaric weapon to dispose of a crude barbaric army.

The first movie he used the survival knife to survive. In the following two it was just to kill.

Part III, this is where it gets a bit silly. It was too big, and it wasn't practical, but a lot of people love this knife.

Part 4 You're right, it fits the film, and at least he used it in some key scenes, especially at the end. That was pretty awesome.

:lol really? Been awhile since I've seen III. It's an interesting design, but doesn't fit Rambo at all.

Yeah, it was too big (17 inches). The knife was in 4 or 5 scenes, and in one of those it was the wrong knife (continuity error) and two of those 5 scenes weren't even actions scenes, just some kid playing with his knife and Rambo holding it. The one time he's about to use it in a fight, he drops it on the sand :lol There's a deleted scene from part 3 that shows him making the knife, but it made no sense because that knife's design is way too complex for him to make in one night, not to mention it had a really nice wooden handle, and it takes a while to make a knife like that :lol

THG: Catching Fire

I had seen THG several years ago, but never got the chance to actually see the sequel. Jennifer Lawrence is a powerhouse. This movie was ten times better than the first one (maybe even a 1,000) something like that. Mind you, I've never read the books but before the movies were released (before the first one) I researched the heck out of it (liked it before it was cool). Catching Fire out of the Hunger Games film was the best one yet. Lawrence is definitely one of my favorites, and she really brought a lot to the film. The story itself was impactful, impowering in a way. Right when it starts, it pulls you in. There's also a lot more action and more of story with this one. The premise just seems so realistic in a way. I mean, what's happening nowadays people not having the chance to stand up for what they believe in, restricted or even punished for doing so. President Snow, I love the fact you get to see how sinister it really all is. Phillip-Seymour Hoffman was incredible! I freaking love the twist at the end! This has gotten me overall excited to see Mockingjay. For Mockingjay looks like they're following it pretty closely compared to the book.
*SPOILER I hope they actually let her kill Snow*
Lawrence dynamic in acting is on cue, and while I never thought much about Hutcherson especially in the first film, it shows he can actually act alongside Lawrence.
Johanna (don't know the name of actress) was great. Ever since I saw the first one, I liked it but I was never in the actual hype as I am now. You can feel that Lawrence gives Katniss a soul. Especially since the Mockingjay has just has got to be one of the biggest symbolisms of the entire series, and how Rue had such a big influence over Katniss along with Katniss's guilt, it shows more than anything that Katniss is a human being. The fact Katniss gets screwed over, when she's suffering from the movie's first events and having to relieve the same horrors (or die another day) reminds me something connected to the spoils of war. Post traumatic disorder, especially something that occurs in soldiers after coming home. This movie was an absolute brilliant surprise.

Five starts being the best, it gets 4.5/5

The Amazing Spiderman 2 - 6.5/10

Okay, I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this, but the movie just wasn't as bad as I keep hearing from other forum members, in fact, I thought it was an improvement over the last one, which I hated. Maybe I just went in with very low expectations, or maybe I'm an idiot, but I thought the film was pretty average.

I thought the guy who played Harry Osborne was MUCH better than James Franco, and I thought Gwen's death added a bit of realism missing from many superhero movies. Not sure if I still need to spoiler tag a movie this old, but I always thought it was ridiculous when a hero would catch someone falling from great heights and yet never sustain injuries or die ::cough:: Superman ::cough::

It wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, but I've seen much worse. I really don't think it deserves all the mud slinging.

Cant wait to see how many people quote me and bold the line "I'm an idiot", I know it's too much to resist for some of you, so don't worry, you won't hurt my feelings.

Since I already destroyed whatever cred I had by defending TASM2, I will chime in to say that I agree with you that Catching Fire was a much better movie than the first Hunger Games. Those sequences are the only parts related to original Thurber's story.
And I absolutely agree that they should've left that concept on the cutting room floor since it was used properly only once and then completely forgotten.

That's cause it was Pitch Black. Instead of monsters coming out at night, we got monsters coming out when it rains.

I still enjoyed it for what it was, but I'm pretty forgiving when it comes to sci-fi.

That's cause it was Pitch Black.
Just like in RISES Dark Knight stopped being sissy and saves the day only when some maniac tries to destroy the city, retconning his origin. Just like in iStark Tree IM overcomes his life's issues only when some notorious terrorist group, secretly led by some rich man with personal hatred towards Tony, kills a lot of civilians and then tries to kill him, retconning his origin.

It was the theme of the day.
And thankfully, Riddick did it best.

I don't think I even reviewed Korra's Book 3.

But it's a 10/10, book 2 it corrected the pace problems of book 1 and book 3 tweaked what was left to be tweaked.

Overall 1st 3 books are aaaaalmost as good as The legend of Aang, but not quite there by a bit, still the best cartoon around these days though.

Best cartoon in recent memory and even better than some classic cartoons.

Yeah, in both films he plays a futuristic elite soldier on a mission where he goes to a foreign place. In both films he likes the female protagonist, and he protects her through out the film, but then towards the end of the film, he gets injured and then Ripley/Sarah Connor have to fight against the unstoppable villain alone, while Biehn is out. One more thing, in Terminator Sarah Connor bites Biehn's hand and in Aliens, the little girl bites his hand...again :lol

Hellboy 7/10 The only interesting characters are Hellboy, his dad (old one), Abe, Kroenen, Tom and Agent Clay.

Liz, Myers, Rasputin and the rest are bleh.

It's an ok movie, the practical effects and make up are outstanding.

The story is ok but it lags and drags in several occasions, maybe only in the DC, haven't watched the theatrical in a long time, maybe that version's less boring.

For such a weird character it doesn't abuse exposition, points for that.

Action isn't particularly good, dialogue is meh at times.

I feel watching The Incredibles today ruined all chances of any other comic book movie to do well in comparison :lol at least as long as the ecstasy for The Incredibles remains.

http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/13/4a1985821c1b14c8cac8f0e742caff8d.jpg

So this past Friday I was able to attend the North American premiere of the Kikaider Reboot. It was worth the airplane ride there and I thought it was a very interesting new take on the franchise.

I felt the direction the makers of this film is the right one to take and they are on the right path. There’s enough of the old series nostalgia in there to keep old fans pleased and enough modern cinema to attract fans from a new generation. I enjoyed this film just as much as other bigger Hollywood films so that’s why I’ll give it a 7/10.

The film is 110 minutes long and as a heads up it is in Japanese but subtitled in English.

Loved this movie since seeing it as a kid in theaters. Haven't watched it in about 10 years. Stellar performances by Caine and Reeve. Dyan Cannon played her part well, but was just overshadowed by the other two.
The house that 95% of the movie takes place in has been has been a dream home for me since I first saw it. Such massive character in its spartan layout.

Dredd ... 8/10. Finally got around to it. Not bad at all. Good action. Cool setting. Had almost a Frank Miller feel to it. Karl Urban was awesome ... extremely well cast. Villainette was a bit weirdly cast, but not awful. This goes alongside The A-Team among movies that demand a sequel, but probably won't get one.

I actually watched KRULL for the first time, last night. :lol

After having that, dare I say.. 'iconic' film poster circling around in my head for around 30 years now (I remember seeing it in the cinema back in 1984 when I saw Wargames), & wanting to eventually buy the movie, I finally found a Youtube upload - in HD no less, to enjoy.

On the whole - I liked it. Some of it is crap (the last 10mins), but there's some awesome vintage sci-fi fantasy gold in there that kind of redeems it. The story is derivative, the premise isn't new, the climax is a complete missed opportunity, but the great beginning sequence, the sprawling cinematography, beautiful locations, Liam Neeson, the noble Cyclops, the crystal spider, the black fortress, the leader of the slayers - 'THE BEAST'.. all those were really cool things.

All up - 6.8 / 10

Actually, it sort of reminded me of LEGEND in a lot of ways.

Great visuals, airy-fairy damzel, rag tag band of allies, & a pretty impressive monster / bad guy.

Some of the interiors of the Black Fortress, reminded me of Salvador Dali paintings - that was cool too.

I know the film isn't well liked but I have read the book and I think it's pretty close but not 100% accurate. What gives it a 8 is Branagh and De Niro's performances. Plus the special effects ruled especially the laboratory scenes with the help of the soundtrack. Overall the story was on and off but pretty close.

I thought it was pretty good myself, the slipping and sliding in the lab felt a little awkward, but thats hardly worthy for me to pick at. I read the book as well, and Branagh did a decent job. It has been a long time, probably due for a re-watch.

Yes, DeNiro did an excellent job as the child/creation forsaken by his Father/God. I'll have to give it another watch, I definitely liked it the first time around, but I havent seen it since it first came to theaters.

No, my score is 7.5. :lol fixed.

It used to be mine too, but I've found that it's not aging well imo, and it's even more noticeable in comparison with Days of future past and 1st Class which are imo far better in almost every aspect.

Magneto, Charles, Wolverine, Mystique, Cyclops and Rogue are still great in it, but Storm is awful, the same for Toad and Sabretooth, the script has some great parts, and some very bad ones.

The intro for Wolverine and the 1st minutes of the movie are still perfect though.

Anyway fair enough, but I love Halle's long straight white hair, & James Hetfield Sabretooth. :lol

Maze Runner - 6 out of 10. Not bad. Not great, but the action sequences were fun for a teen flick.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo (2011) - (?) / 10.

I didn't watch it properly - I had to get up & do stuff in between, but I'll say right now that the cast was awesome, the film had the right vibe, & Rooney Mara was channeling Noomi something fierce while giving her own interpretation at the same time.. if that makes sense. There were moments where she actually looked a LOT like her (in disguise at the bank etc).

Definitely need to give it a proper watch soon.

Just finished up watching all 8 Harry Potter films in relatively short order once again. It really is an amazing series for what it accomplished, and it provided one of the greatest on screen characters ever in the form of Snape. Overall I'd give it an 8 easy, and my favorites are still Order of the Phoenix and Goblet of Fire, but the final four are all very, very good. My least favorite is easy - Prisoner of Azkaban. While it had some critical information for the later films, and obviously the introduction of Sirius and the Dementors was key, overall it was a boring flick, and Lupin was never one of my favorite screen characters.
