I think it has the most well-composed score of all the alien films, followed by either Alien or Prometheus.

Me too, it was a shock for me to find out Newt and Hicks died, and yeah, as much as I appreciate AR, it's like a weird alternate universe comicbook.

Oldboy (American Remake) - Josh Brolin was alright. Pacing had issues, devoided of tension, mystery, or intensity. Scarlett Witch showed her boobies though :). Doesn't hold its own in comparison to the original. 5/10

Enders Game - Most of the main characters were ok, Harrison Ford is the same grumpy old man character (like in all his movies in the past 10 years), and ending was a little predictable. But all in all a breezy watching experience. 6/10

Batman: Assault on Arkham

A surprisingly well written and thoroughly entertaining prequel to the Arkham Asylum videogame that's revolves around the Suicide Squad with mere glimpses of the Bat. While that alone may turn people off, it turns out to be a liberating experience that allows the story and characters to flourish. Featuring cameos by characters in the games and an awesome double end confrontation, this movie shouldn't be missed if you're a Batfan, regardless if you've played the games or not.

9/10.

Dawn of The Planet of The Apes - 9.5/10

Incredible movie.

The parallels between Caesar and Macomlb representing the trusting and good in both species and desire for peace and co-existence for their species and families sake and the parallel between Koba and Dreyfus' as the hardened and warmongering of the species were perfectly realised

The blue eyes subplot reminded me of Days of future past in the way that Blue Eyes (Mystique) was struggling to decide whose ideals to follow, Caesar (Xavier) or Koba (Magneto).

I'd venture to say this movie is a remake or re-imagining of Battle for the Planet of the Apes given the story of Ape community vs human community and Ape shall no kill Ape.

The movie represented the good and evil tendencies of both species so well. We the audience don't want either to go to war but it's something that seems inevitable and something that even though we side with the Apes as they are the more pure Species had us not want to choose a side.

Koba was a true standout, one of the best villains of the 21st Century, imo. Kebbell IMO deserves a best supporting actor nomination. I loved his arc of wanting revenge so much it overrode his love of his community and species.

While a spectacular movie it didn't have some problems. It ran too long, started to drag after the assault on the Human colony. It was at times a little predictable and perhaps a bit to sentimental.

The score was very impressive. The subtle throwbacks to the originals score when riding to the Human colony for the firs time was excellent

All in all this has cemented this year as one of the best for sequels and this franchise is tracking to have one of the best trilogies.

If this doesn't get an Oscar for visual effects I'd be shocked they were that good. So good that by the end you forgot they were effects

Batman Arkham Assault 8.5/10

Excellent expansion of the Arkham-verse, it's funny, mature without taking itself too seriously, exciting, the animation and drawings are beautiful, DC has been dropping the ball on one or other aspects since the Flashpoint Paradox, this feels like DC animation back on top form.

Everyone in their respective roles brought their A Game and it's very clear to see that when watching the movie, I was nearly floored by Cooper's performance as Rocket and adored the character of Groot. A star was born with Chris Pratt as Star-Lord and Zoe's keep shining, even Batista, who I assumed would be the weak link in the film, did well, one of Marvel's best.

I know I know I was dumb for not watching it earlier :lol it's just that a friend has been nagging me to watch this cartoon and I always discarded it cause she's kind of an otaku so I thought it would be like one of her usual animes where everybody is super good looking and cool and indifferent.

But I was so wrong, this cartoon is a master piece it makes me LOL and it gives me feels and it's extremely well written.

The live action movie gives it no justice, at all.

That reminds me...

The Last Airbender - 2/10 utter crap. Might be biased due to being a fan, but the plot made no sense, characters were flat, and just horrible acting all around

Yeah, it was a bad movie even when I didn't know anything of the lore, but now that I'm in love with the cartoon, I feel alienated by it :lol

I feel they should reboot it with Guillermo del Toro.

Sabotage - 5/10 - Arnold was pretty good in this but the flick was pretty dull. The who done it was easy to figure out early on.

I think it's possible, with the correct artistic vision.

Of course it would leave a lot of the show's material out, but it shouldn't be a travesty like M. Night Shyamalan's.

It's even tougher when even the filler episodes are soooo good and actually have an impact on the story.

It was good, but I guess the universal praise it's been getting was making me expect a little more. WS and X-Men: DOFP definitely lived up to the hype, so I suppose I was thinking this one would too. GOTG is definitely one of the better movies, but I thought WS and DOFP were better as far as this summer's comic movies go. I thought it started out a little uneven, but once they got to Nova Prime the movie really got going. Rocket was absolutely the best part of the movie. I would want to watch it again just for his parts. I thought Ronan was kinda bland as a villain, and didn't really like how he was played. It was a fun ride, but had much more in common with Firefly/Serenity than it did SW--not sure why the comparisons are so prevalent between the two, other than they're both in space.

Winter Soldier was better than Guardians? Oh oh, I'll really lower my expectations then. I can't honestly score Winter Soldier very high. I thought it was too long and had enough clichés to make my cringe multiple times. VFX were hit and miss, story was "meh" - though I knew what to expect there after watching the SHIELD TV show.

Also, wrt to WS, when did Captain America become super-human? He's supposed to be extra strong, but not so strong that he can survive things a normal human could not and certainly not throw someone across the room or through a wall. Which brings me to another issue - inconsistency. In one scene he's got Superman-like strength and then in another he's having relative difficulty putting down an ordinary man. With the strength shown in some scenes, he'd be able to split someone's skull with a single punch. I call that lazy story telling. The movie just seemed like an awkward collection of action sequences stitched together with wooden acting and dialogue.

It was still much better than both Thor movies, Iron Man 2 and 3, plus all non-Marvel Studios Marvel movies. ;)

Definitely temper you expectations, especially if you thought WS was unremarkable. Different kind of film, though. Like I said, it has more in common with Firefly and Serenity. Tone is pretty light and comedic--maybe like Avengers. Rocket's lines and delivery are fantastic.

Can't agree with your assessment of Cap and his powers, though. I think the super soldier serum does indeed make him super human. And I can accept him maybe holding his strength back a bit when fighting regular men. He knows his strength and knows he can kill with a punch. But that just wouldn't be the boyscout he is, would it? As far as you knowing what the outcome of the movie was because you watched SHIELD, you can't hold that against the movie. Besides, I knew what was coming before I watched the movie and I didn't think the knowledge took away too much.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 - 5/10
It was an ok movie, it did have that Micheal Bay feel but over all it wasn't as bad as I expected. The look of the turtles also didn't bother me all that much
like I thought they were. Now I will say I went in with zero expectations and a free special screening ticket. So with that Im glad I didn't pay for it.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 8.5/10
Again I knew nothing about these characters and went in blind and walked out really impressed. It wasn't perfect, but it was a great film. The characters were cool
and the plot was good along with making it tie into the other films. A solid film, even my wife who said it looked stupid came out loving it.

Robocop 2014 - 7.5/10

With the original being one of my favorite flicks, I walked in with major reservations. But I honestly enjoyed it, it was smartly done, and liked the social commentary that they included, in particular with the influence of politics on business. This one didn't have as much humor, but was done quite well. I thought Gary Oldman and Joel Kinnaman were great, but I thought Michael Keaton was terrible. Didn't mind the suit so much when you see it with all the sound effects and all, but still had a major problem with his face being undamaged (and still liked the silver suit more).

TMNT (2014) 5/10

I just saw the film and it's a piece of ****. It's not as bad as a Transformer movie, and it wasn't boring, which is good. Is it better than TMNT 2 and 3? Yes. However, the only things I like about the film are the Turtles and their chemistry and some of the action scenes. The film is 1 hour and 40 minutes, and somehow, they accomplished very little in comparison to the 1990 film. The original film was ten minutes shorter, and not only was it more faithful to the source material, it managed to give us an origin story, a more interesting villain, Casey Jones, and somehow, more time with the Turtles.

This new movie focused too much on the humans and we didn't get enough non-action scenes with the Turtles, just to see them in their home, hanging out like in the original film. One of the best parts about GOTG, is all those non-action scenes where we get to hangout with the characters and we see them interacting with each other. TMNT didn't do a good job showing the city, the sewers, the turtle's home, the turtle's relationship with Splinter or even the Turtles eating pizza. Even though the original film is shorter, by the end of the film you feel like you know all the characters pretty well, and there are no loose ends. Splinter's voice was not good either and even worse, was his appearance. He must be the ugliest rat I've ever seen...would it kill them to make him cute? Rats are not that ugly. As Raphael would say, DAMN!! This film is not the worst film ever, and Kids will like it and TMNT fans will not hate it, but it could've been much better....I think we all knew that already.

To me, any movie I would start out saying is a piece of **** would not deserve a 5 out of 10. Myself, I would consider 5 out of 10 to be mediocre or maybe slightly below average.

10 Perfect
9 Awesome
8 Excellent
7 Very Good
6 Good, better than average
5 Average, ok, not bad
4 Has many problems, below average
3 Poor
2 Dsimal
1 Terrible
0 Absolutely nothing of any redeeming value, the worst imaginable.

It was my initial reaction, and I had just seen the film. The writing is bad, imo. The villains, their plans, and their motives are predictable. If it wasn't TMNT, I would give the film a 3, but my "love" for the TMNT is what gave it a 5 because the film wasn't boring, they got a few things right, and the action was above average. Also, Michelangelo always made me smile through the film.

You can say that. If you're a big TMNT fan, you might like it or at the very least, you won't hate it. In fact, even if you're not a fan, you won't hate it, but there's nothing great or even memorable about it.There are films that are pieces of **** that you can still like and enjoy, but you still recognize that they are not great or even good, like Commando. Here's why Guardians edges out Avengers to me, they did everything that the Avengers movie did + told origin stories for all of it's characters without getting bloated. Without the other movies, as a stand alone, Avengers simply does not work on the same level. You would feel no emotion for these characters that have no back story.

The Avengers biggest victory is a technical one. They successfully combined actors from existing movies. And that's nothing new. Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein came out in 1948 folks.

Hmmm, that's fair enough if you insist on comparing them as stand-alones. But otherwise it shouldn't work against Avengers. Avengers didn't do origin stories for its characters because it didn't need to and that was the intention in the first place with each having their own movies beforehand.

I can feel that the original script was very strong and could be adapted into a masterpiece. Unfortunately, that did not happen... Much wasn't held properly and some necessary things were completely forgotten. In addition they should of either completely abandon the pathos and go full mundane or make a full-fledged drama.

TMNT 4/10 I liked the turtles, Shredder and the action sequences.

Everything else was beyond generic.

Also, I saw it dubbed :gah: it's punishment to watch movies like that, so maybe that affected my enjoyment.

I happen to still think its a very good movie but that's incidental. When I said what you quoted I was referring to this forum generally. Everyone (apart from the cool people) was giving it 10/10. I'm sure you remember.

Gonna go ahead and drop my two cents on the counter here.

Avengers is a one-time watch (and it took me getting dragged by my friends to see it twice to realize that). It's a mostly-hollow fan service session that lacks proper dramatic meat. People were so excited to see the Hulk smacking Thor that they forgot what makes a good movie. For a time, Avengers was so hot it was infallible, even though it felt like it was made only to justify the existence of the previous films.

In terms of character arcs and drama, the movie fell flat -- save for the scene where Banner admits to his suicide attempt. But even that was too little too late. The thing was all flash and no substance, which I suppose makes sense because the characters had already been introduced and we were expecting them to just team up and fight. In that respect, I hope Age of Ultron delivers more drama to counteract the bloated flash and self-awareness.

Guardians had infinitely more depth and creativity. It felt much more involving as an action/adventure film and I gave a damn for reasons other than seeing Hulk punch a giant space worm in the face. Okay, cool. Spectacle is why we came, but now give us something to stay and sit for. Tony being a lovable ass? Thor having a god complex? Loki being an unexplainable panty-dropper? We can get plenty of that by watching the other movies so why should we care what happens to the characters and their world in this one? A new reason, please. With substance. Otherwise it's just, as I said, a two-hour fan service session and nothing more.

There is only one film truly worthy of this acclaim, for such a score is not given easily. And this film is of course...

Commando.

Not only is Commando the greatest motion picture ever made, but it is also the manliest film ever made.

I just watched RoboCop 2 for the first time in years. :lol

I actually enjoyed it. It's a poor follow up, but ehh.. there's still some redeeming features in it; namely Weller, & Phil Tippet's work. If not for them, it would've been beyond pointless. It also still has it's feet firmly planted in that golden era of over the top action flicks with some well known old faces, so that adds to it's charm of course as well.

Nancy Allen (who was excellent in 1) could've been replaced really, & it wouldn't have mattered. The old boy (OCP boss) was good, but he seemed almost detached from the whole affair most of the time. You just don't care about anyone in this movie bar Murphy; I thought the scene where Murphy's wife shows up at the Police Station to talk to him one last time - & he does the stoic thing & snubs her, was kinda good.

It's all a big dumb repeat.. with a kid villain this time. He reminded me of a little Harry Connick Jnr. :lol

The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition - 8.5/10

I thought this was fantastic and the best animated superhero film put out by either DC or Marvel. I read the graphic novel so long ago, so don't remember a lot of the subtext etc... from it, but this was done very well. I also liked how they weren't confined by the 75 minute time issues - at 2.5 hours, it gave the film plenty of time to breathe.

Other animated film recommendations? The other one I can think of that was very very good was Under the Red Hood.

Highly recommend Dark Horse's comic continuation of the original Team Avatar. I really enjoyed the first story arc called "The Promise." Sets the stage for the world in Korra quite well. "The Search" didn't quite grab me the same way but it does finally tie up the loose end about Zuko's mother. I've only read the first part of "The Rift" so far but am enjoying it! Transcendence - 6/10

It had a pretty good thing going, plot-wise, but sometimes the characters made stupid decisions that didnt make sense.

The movie also struggled to find itself, jumping from a beautiful Sci-Fi flick, to a straight up action movie. It tried to portray some things technology can do as frightening but it sorta just fell short of doing that for me.

I'd give it a 6/10 overall. Way better than Paul but nowhere near Fuzz or Shaun.

Legend of Korra book one 8/10 Amazing franchise, great lovable characters as well, funny, heart touching and exciting.

I would give this one a 10/10 but for some reason, they made it 12 episodes, there was still so much they could have done with the equalists, Amon, etc etc but they just finished it, in a natural, logical way but it still felt untimely or premature, it's just weird, they could have made it 20 episodes like the Aang run.

It makes it feel rushed and somewhat unfinished, not because of the pacing or not because there were plot holes, but because of it's sudden end.

I wanted more, in quantity, of the equalists and Amon.

I've watched 2 seasons of Walking Dead. The first season, as for me, is considered the best due to the fact that the writers, which is to put people and zombies in one line. Rick and his team are often confronted with human cruelty, which often turns into a fight for survival, of which not all come out winners.

The second season, despite the strong start, is rather slowly turn up the event, and almost completely devoted to the hero, who are forced to hide on a remote farm. The third season is the longest (of 16 series), and as for me, rich storylines and often twists. Despite the quite different interesting season, this show is loved by those who are crazy of animated theme-dead. I watches this show at tvstock.net
