Oblivion: Never hiding the fact that I think most Tom Cruise movies are pretty much just filth with hsi name attached to get sheeple to watch them, I watched this because my wife wanted to. Although I was doing work, I actually found myself stopping and watching. I have to admit, I don't know that I'd ever watch this again, but it definitely wasn't a 90 minute borefest, actually had a half decent hook ( I don't know if I would have seen what was coming in that next zone if I were paying closer attention at first) and the end delivery was pretty nice, no major need for explanations, it is what it is, and heres whats going down. too many films get wrapped up with explaining everything, I liked the mini flashback and the ending, gave me enough to make me wonder and enough to finish the movie.
Would recommend it to anyone whos bored and has ntohing else in particular they want to do at the time.

^ I've been wanting to catch that one for a while.. no rush though. :lol

I watched roughly the second half (minus the last 15 mins or so) of Book Of Eli the other night, & it actually looked ok from what I saw.

Denzel seemed solid I guess. Mila - always hot, but I dug her vibe in the little I saw. Oldman - reminded me of a combo of his roles in Leon & Fifth Element. :lol

I should watch it properly through once though at least.

Damn! How awesome was Robocop Remastered? Haven't seen Robocop since VHS/Analog Satellite days.

Though, the extended scene of ED-209 was brutal. Looked very icky. He didn't hear it! Don't touch him!

Also Murphy's death, the dripping blood and splattered skin. Ugh! Horrid in Blu-Ray. The film looks great in 2014 but the acid scene seemed so funny. Get away from me man! Horrid sound from the exploding body in 5.1. Ugh, I can still hear the squish/thud.

I don't recall anything else different? All I saw that was extra was the extended death with ED-209.

Just watched this. Fully enjoyed it. I like Statham but his films usually leave me empty. Probably because of the lack of caring I have for most of the characters in those films. Not so with this one. I cared about Statham and his daughter. I enjoyed the bad guys. And I enjoyed watching a character I cared for kick the bad guy's asses.

As "dumb" action films go this is better and a bit smarter then most.

Spiritual cousin to Ghostbusters. Both directed by Ivan Reitman, both co-written by Harold Ramis, both starring Bill Murray and Ramis. Two of the funniest movies I've seen. Ghostbusters only wins because it has the great sci-fi/geek angle, because I loved it as a kid, and because it's a bit tighter.

Batman Returns - 7/10 Not as quite as good as the original Burton classic, but delivers everything you would want from a sequel *more gadgets/vechiles/villains* The casting and acting was spot on, and Devito's Penguin is amazingly freaky (everyone remembers that gruesome nose biting scene). RIDDICK is not a Nolan fanboy. He just hates everything. But in this case, he has a point. BR is a pretty rotten sequel to B89 and a pretty rotten Batman movie in general. Don't get me wrong. I love it. It's a great Tim Burton movie and it was the first Batman movie I was old enough to see in the movie theater. But knowing more about the characters and world of Batman, it's pretty unfaithful to the source material.

Bale's performance was quite good. I'm not a fan of him when it comes to anything Batman or Terminator, but I liked him a lot in this. The story is a slow burn, only has a few peaks of intensity, but I found it to be an enjoyable tale.

I liked Collateral a lot, I like most of Michael Mann's work.

Although his last couple films haven't done much for me, hes got some great movies like Collateral, Heat and Manhunter, hes one of few directors that I can think of that every movie seems quality even if the movie doesn't stick with me. I've never watched one of his flicks and afterwards left thinking, what trash. Really wish he'd put out some more work before he retires or ends up in the obits.

Undoubtedly Russell's funniest character.

True but I really miss Kurt Russell. It's sad that age is such a problem with Hollywood. 80s and 90s movies were so great compared to most today. Sure today has some great movies but that magic that the 80s and 90s just isn't the same today.

Hmm…

its politics mostly. Kurt is a libertarian yes but he is more of a right wing libertarian and is a big supporter of the NRA. If he and his family did not have a long history in hollywood he probably would have been blacklisted a long time ago.

its really not that different then a guy like Tom selleck. Both are very good actors, extremely likable, but they just dont fit with the current agenda. They are given enough work to stay in the business but its small stuff where they cant have much of an impact. Kurt is from the old school hollywood and really has no place anymore. Put it this way….if John Wayne were around today and was fairly young he would be blacklisted and never get a project.

Just goes to show you how intolerant those left wing nuts in Hollywood are. It's already to be Democrat/Liberal, but I believe that the actors in Hollywood are extreme to the left.

Not sure I agree with your IMDB quotes. Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are both staunchly right wing in their political beliefs, but they get lot's of work. The fact of the matter is if Kurt Russel's movies made big box office, he would get plenty of roles, but very few of his movies were big hits.

the only person I can think of right now who can really be considered to be blacklisted is Mel Gibson, and that has alot to do with his anti-semitic remarks as well as the allegations of domestic abuse. He has proven to be such a nut job that most people just dont want to see his mug on screen anymore.

I've got no problem with him. He's also done great work since MI, like Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, Collateral, Minority Report and Tropic Thunder.

The Great Gatsby - 7/10 - It's a bit too all over the place in terms of the style and substance trying to be so modern. A few scenes it works, most of the time it's a little too jarring and the CGI is very obvious.

I started watching Blue Jasmine last night, because my wife wanted to see it. She quickly lost interest and left the room. I continued watching more than half the movie, but realized that I didn't care about that character at all, and really wasn't very interested in what happened to her or the story next, so I turned it off despite the prospect of seeing more Louis C.K. I'm a Woody Allen movie from way on back, and even enjoy his more cynical, depressing movies like Crimes and Misdemeanors. But the major character here had nothing to keep me involved. She was vacuous and superficial, obviously intentionally made to be unlikable by Allen, as that wasn't coupled with any real humor, charisma or charm, or even explicit cruelty and malice, which could have made her more interesting.

"Lone Survivor"

8/10

The best war movie I┤ve seen since "Black Hawk Down".

I didn't care what happened to any of the characters.
I get what you're saying, in the sense that none of these characters were good people by a long shot. Bale and Adams were scumbags who preyed on people who didn't deserve it, Cooper was just trying to bring himself attention and boost his career, Lawrence was selfish, whiny, and spiteful, Renner was a politician trying to achieve political goals. But at the same time, they were all likable in their way, possibly with the exception of Lawrence, though even she had a scene or two where the audience felt for her. I compare this to Blue Jasmine, where Blanchett was just totally despicable and worse--tedious--and realize there really is no comparison.

It was incredibly difficult to watch, at times, but it was an extremely powerful and moving film.

Another one of those movies that succeeds because of the performances more than anything else.

I finally watched The Fourth Kind the other night.

I liked it for the most part. Going in, I thought I'd hate it - going by all the bad reviews & general panning it's gotten thus far, but no actually. Apart from some over the top scenes - & the woman playing the supposed 'real' Dr Abigail Tyler looking & sounding like a zombie in Sepia during her post trauma interviews, I really dug it. The 'owl' component was great.

I understand the issues folks have with it; namely the 'based on true events' business, but ehh.. whatever.

7 / 10. :duff

I really, really dig this film too. In fact the first time I watched it, I was all alone in the movie theatre for its showing. No one else there because of the bad reviews I guess which is a shame because It think its a pretty damn fine little horror film. It's quite disturbing actually when the alien abduction stuff kicks in and the ending is pretty damn unsettling. And the scenes with Dr. Taylor in the "real" world are creepy as hell because as you say due to the way its shot and her zombiefication. I prefer this film over Dark Skies, which had a bigger budget.

Yeah man, it was cool. :duff

While I'm genuinely intrigued by the UFO phenomena, I normally try & steer clear of stupid alien conspiracy films. This one I thought, was going to be just like that - but it was more than that, so it was refreshing in that sense. It clearly has the Paranormal Activity / Blair Witch vibe about it though.. which I'm not necessarily into to be honest.

That said - one of my all time fave films in this genre to this day, is FIRE IN THE SKY. It also got panned initially, because folks were saying it wasn't sure what kind of film it wanted to be; horror, documentary etc. I saw it in the cinema back in 1993, & it scared the ****ing **** out of me. :lol

Now it's a cult hit apparently.. what'ya know. It's also touted as having one of the most frightening abduction sequences ever. It's pretty damn convincing.

Actually, I should reverse that and give the first a 0 and the second maybe a 2.
The first was just a mass of setups for easy improv jokes in a very a loose plot. At least the second had a bit of a direction to the story, and I got some decent laughs. But when Ron went blind it just totally tanked for me from then on.

Very serious.
Normally I'm all over that kind of stuff, the dumber the better. But it was, both of them, were just so forced that only a few jokes ended up working on me. Otherwise they felt like being with that one guy we've all known at some point in our lives, he's not necessarily anyone's friend in particular, but he's always been around for years for some reason. And every joke he makes he sits there staring at everyone until they laugh.

That's Will Ferrell for me, and after seeing Casa de mi padre, I have yet to see another one of his movies.
