Robocop 9.5/10 Original obviously, those visuals, so many one liners, that gore, those footstep sounds, that 80's thing going on, love it.

Man of Steel 8.5/10 (It's not a reply to the previous comments :lol I was watching it while I was doing homework and I couldn't help but stopping and finish watching instead) Glaring issues, but lots of heart, character development and interactions, action, sound, gorgeous visuals (a bit more saturation could've made them even prettier), I can't help but to love this movie despite it's flaws.

RoboCop (2014) - 8/10

Just saw it. It gets an 8/10 from me. It's actually a decent movie. It tries to put its own spin on the character, and give us an alternative take on the RoboCop story. Hugely enjoyable. I have heard a few people question whether or not the movie has any heartfelt story or any emotional investment in its characters, well I can confirm it does. Scenes with Murphy coming to terms with the full extent of what has happened to him, and the scenes of him returning to his family to see his wife and kid are certainly emotional. I definitely felt for them.

I'll definitely be seeing again and buying on Blu-Ray.

Thor: The Dark World 7.5/10 good movie, Thor is one of my fave Marvel guys, loved the humor, the action was very comic booky, the story was too, Marvel's not afraid of going crazy, I like that, I like DC's approach too but at the same time I wish they would embrace the ridiculous side of comic books.

Robocop (remake) - 6/10

Went and see a special screening of Robocop last night. Its like they took out all the violence and elaborated on the story. It was good, but it didn't have the feeling of the original. It was its own movie for sure. Definitely a cleaner more Hollywood modernized story. I feel like it could have been much more with an R rating. I didn't hate it though. I really like the ED-209 updated design.

For me it's the other way around. LOL I thought Timberlake did well, but the plot was stupid. The dark underbelly of online poker? Really? I'm still not sure how I feel about this completely. It had some heavily resonant moments for me, especially early on, but it was the weirdest Romanian romcom action thriller I've ever seen. :rotfl
Can't say I hate it, but until I figure it out entirely, I didn't love it. Ron Weasley, who wants to be a porn star, also blows his load in his pants after downing 6 Romanian Viagra, then gets superglued to a chum because of it. So there is some gripping content going on there. :D
It felt fairly forced and unrealistic overall throughout.

Killing Season 1/10

I hated this so much. As soon as Revolta opened his mouth...*shudders* Christ. He was bad enough trying to speak his 10 words in Serbian, but his accented English was damn near offensive to actors the world over. Beyond that, it was a horrible metaphor for war, blame and responsibility, bashing you over the head with its intent. The violence was not at all necessary - and I do love me some graphic violence - rather than being a gratuitous distraction from how bad the story was.

I've always liked Terminator 3. I think it ets a bad rap quite unfairly. To expect it to surpass T2, one of the greatest movies ever made, is unfair. What it does do successfully is add to the Terminator story without going too far and, like you said, has an excellent ending.

I liked it a lot. The actors were fantastic. Story was good.

But what slightly put me off was, a) one too many riddles to solve at the end (e.g.: Why were there snakes in the trunks, who the hell was Bob Taylor + the fact that David Dastmalchian only acts crazy in movies :lol) and, b) Detective Loki didn't seems to be much of a detective, maybe I was expecting 'Batman', but he came across very slow in uncovering stuff.

I think this point was to illustrate how the restrictions and boundaries placed on the police to ensure that they are operating within legal means can sometimes be a hinderance to achieving justice and uncovering the truth. The only way hugh Jackman got anywhere was by pursuing his own form of justice in a less than conventional way. You could see how Loki was getting frustrated with the restrictions placed on him by his boss.

That makes sense. The frustration as an audience was quite high, imagine people in the line of duty working with their hands tied.

I've always liked Terminator 3. I think it ets a bad rap quite unfairly. To expect it to surpass T2, one of the greatest movies ever made, is unfair. What it does do successfully is add to the Terminator story without going too far and, like you said, has an excellent ending.
Pretty much yeah, I'd go as far as to give it an 8/10, it's really not a bad movie, what I like is that the villains in the franchise are always fresh, and that bathroom fight scene was both funny and badass.

The writing and acting aren't bad at all either.

Watched it again last night. I feel it's the best Bond, but after seeing it again after a few years I see that it's starting to show its age. I can't believe it's nearly 20 years old! There are strange things like the filmmakers leaving an obvious pause after a joke to let the audience laugh, and more subtle pacing issues. Anyway, I like how Brosnan portrayed Bond, especially in this one. He was a top soldier first and foremost, and had a penchant for fast living and women. You can see that the director, Martin Campbell, was trying to do what he eventually did with Craig in Casino Royale. He made a tougher, colder, more believable Bond. I liked how no one could sneak up on him, and I LOVE the fight with Bond and Trevelyan in the radar dish. I think it's the most brutal fist fight in all the Bond movies. And I admit the movie is not without its problems either. Some of the jokes fall flat, and the music varies from excellent to terrible.

I like this one better than the Craig Bonds because it still keeps some of the hallmarks of the classic Bond movies intact, like his suits, his charm, the opening sequence, some gadgets, etc. The new ones are good, no doubt, but I just wish they would let a few more characteristics of classic Bond creep in. I think Quantum does the better job in doing that, while Royale takes away the most.

Skyfall: 7.5/10
Gave this one another view as well. I guess I enjoyed it a tiny bit better than I did the first time. But I still have some problems with it. Overall I like the tone of the movie. The song and the soundtrack are great. I liked it from when Bond first meets Silva on the island to when he leaves with M to Skyfall. The attack on Skyfall was ok. I really liked how it set up Moneypenny and the new M--getting it back on track to a more classic Bond. But I feel the story felt a little derivative of other recent Bonds, including Goldeneye (Bond being obsolete, a previous agent being the enemy) and maybe World Is Not Enough (attack on MI6, M targeted and Bond's devotion to her).

I'll try and watch Quantum (my favorite Craig Bond) again and see how that one holds up.

T2: Judgement Day 10/10, god I love this movie, I watched it a week ago and just watched it again, I do it regularly every couple of months since I was a kid and it never gets old, it only gets better every time, it's just perfect in every way, the visuals, the score, the dialogue, the performances, all the little details that serve as commentary on human nature, how it feels like a post-apocalyptic movie despite not taking place in the future, yet taking place in the future and the past at the same time, mind bending ****... "Skynet becomes self aware" that line always freaks me out.

Watching John with the machine, it was suddenly so clear. Of all the would-be fathers who came and went over the years, this thing, this machine, was the only one who measured up. The Terminator would never stop. It would never leave him. It would never hurt him. It would never shout at him or get drunk and hit him. Or say it was too busy to spend time with him. And it would die to protect him. In an insane world, it was the sanest choice.

The Alien 4 characters are absolutely cartoony. Their every line of dialogue is clearly scripted, they each have a clearly defined role as 'characters'. Contrasting with the 'people' in Alien who have natural conversations much of which you can't even hear as they talk over eachother in a way that happens in real life. They are also people with believable reactions to the situation they find themselves in. The Alien Res characters just don't compare. Exactly, I rate each as it goes:

Alien 9.5/10 ahh a 10, for being groundbreaking.
Aliens 10/10
Alien 3 7.5/10 Maybe an 8, because of the darker tone.

I rate Aliens higher because I would tend to watch it more often. Both are classics. I just think Cameron did such a commendable job of following up on a great original film. Its very hard to do.

I rank both movies equally at a 9/10, and I agree. It seems to be very difficult to follow up on a spectacular movie. Too many have failed trying.

I was surprised by how good this was. Poor Natalie Portman though, what an absolute waste of talent she is in these movies.

Robrocop 8/10 it was pretty good, I felt it really tried to homage the original more than insult it as the trailers and featurettes lead us to believe, the guy playing Murphy did a great job, Oldman and Keaton were meh, ok, the supporting cast wasn't memorable at all, nor the villains too personal enough to cheer against them, the updated politics and social issues really didn't make the film feel more current nor relevant, the original still beats this one at that, and many other things, visually speaking it has nothing on the original, but what this one does very good is setting itself apart from the original.

It was a respectful reboot, if there's a sequel, I'll gladly watch it, just because of Robocop himself, the character is very likable.

I have to say, I keep noticing one thing. Everyone gives it a 7 or 8/10 but than their review is like 80 percent negative. Poor villains, meh story, crap costumes, doesn't live upto the original, not memorable.

So... just curious why it's a 7/8 exactly? :lol

it just strikes me as one of those movies who's score is going to continue to steadily drop as people realise it has no rewatchability. Granted I haven't seen it but like I said, that describes every review I've read and I'm not seeing what about that warrants a way above average only 2 points from perfect movie. Hell I only give the original a 9/10.

Yeah, that's the thing, I don't feel it's too re watchable, because, apart from Robocop himself, there's nothing much else to watch, maybe Oldman and Mattox.

It does have many redeeming qualities, there's a scene in particular, that really removed all my prejudices about the guy being just "a guy in a rubber suit", it was a brilliant scene, the sociopolitical aspect isn't more compelling than the original, BUT it is more compelling than most action flicks these days.

Deckard
03-02-2014, 09:30 PM
Yea like everyone says the Murph frankenstein scene is great but then I read the rest of their reviews and there seems to be nothing redeeming so I'm just genuinely wondering what sets it apart on it's own merits(without making comparisons) and makes it so awesome is all.

I'll see it eventually when it's free on HBO or something but from what I'm hearing I'm not even expecting it to top 2 which gets an overly bad rap..

GasparZizou
03-02-2014, 09:34 PM
Well, it's own merits... I'm gonna say Murphy himself, he's different from the original Murphy but he is still a badass, likable, and a very capable character, the movie managed this very well, in some moments, he was more machine than man, and in others he was still more man than machine, it's worth watching for Murphy alone.

It also has a lot of underachieved potential, i.e. I wish they would've used ED209 better.

Meh, I just recently watched the original all the way through for the first time and wasn't impressed. It doesn't at all compare to the other sci-fi/action/horror films of that decade like Alien(s), Predator and Terminator.

I'd probably give it a 6/10 or so.

I think it's because the people that actually gave the movie a chance and discovered that it's actually good might feel that they can't give it too much praise or else they will be branded a hater of the original.

You know what? It's ok to like both!

Exactly, there was actually pressure to hate it. People feel they have to say something negative about it so they don't get rounded upon.

Having said that, Deckard has a point. I've only seen it once. Who knows how repeat viewings will go.

12 Years a Slave - 10/10
Wow. This and Dallas Buyers Club transcend the idea of cinematic entertainment to provide something more than just an escape. They're both lessons in our failures taken from real events. And they are failures we should be aware of and never forget. They examine our failures on every level of who we are as a species.
Not to take anything away from the other great movies of the year, but these deserve a level of attention the rest don't require.
I'm not forgetting that WOWS and Hustle were based on real events as well, though Hustle was the loosest of them all. And we know that rich dicks are always out to take everything they can and ruin things for the rest of us, like Leo and Jonah tried. That's a universal constant, fun as it was to watch. LOL But they rest on a plane beneath movies like 12 Years.

All of the performances in this were spectacular. I was moved by everyone, the simple, the small, the powerful, the complex, the good and the bad.
I get the feeling that PC backlash, as being in full-force now because, tough guy d***s being what they are and all that, disallows me from stating it upset me tremendously, but it did. And the knee-jerk PC naysayers can kiss all of my *** if they want to be bothered by that, because they're obviously so entrenched in a mindframe of reactionary opposition that they can't sympathize with simple human suffering so they can keep hammering home their belief that racism died long ago.

This movie resonates through today, to right-fricking-now. Human trafficking is a goddamn horror we should all understand we can't allow to continue.

Of the Best Picture nominees I saw I would have given it to Dallas Buyers Club. 12 Years a Slave was good but repetitive. Scene after scene of slaves being whipped or hung. Story progression consisted of our main character being sold to another bad man who whips and mistreats and rapes until he (main character) happens to meet a sympathetic ear in Brad Pitt's character. After a while it all seemed a bit excessive - yes, OK, we get it, slavery was horrible, terrible injustices etc etc but the first hour and a quarter of that was quite sufficient to put that message across.

I thought this was pretty disappointing. The action was fine, but there was way too much going on, without enough time to properly tell the story. This probably should have been broken up into two animated films. I also didn't think many of the characters were all that likable, which may be due to the fact that we didn't get much character development. Batman was pretty great though. Definitely on the lower tier of the DC animated films in my opinion. Probably my least favorite of the Justice League movies.
