The girl with the dragon tattoo (American version): 9/10.

Much better than the Swedish adaptation of the book, for the most part it sticks to the 1st book a lot better, Craig does a better job portraying a steel willed journalist and so does Rooney Mara portraying Lisbeth, she fits better into the physical description of Lisbeth and gives it a truly indifferent demeanor with a hint of repressed anger, whilst Noomi Rapace plays a less subtle Lisbeth which I find less interesting and she doesn't really look the part as well as Mara does, and Fincher did a great job gave it this slight hint of neo-noir air, definitely excited for the second one.

One of my few complaints with the movie (and books) is that hackers don't use Apple computers :lol

But I know you want to :lol

I liked the originals as well, they are what got me reading the books, but I always thought Lisbeth was a bit out of place with Noomi, and she found her place in Rooney Mara, she's perfect for Lisbeth, she's now my favorite female character, the American version did many things better than the Swedish one in my opinion, to the point that now when I read the books, I always picture the cast of the American version instead :lol, this is one of those rare cases of the hollywood version being better than the foreign version, If you liked the 1st version, I'd think at least you won't find the latter one worst than the 1st.

Agreed, I think the American version was closer to what Larsson intended for the characters.

Glad that the movie is still happening despite hiccups with delays and production costs.

The trick now is to bring back Craig and Fincher.

I like Jeff Bridges, so even though I've seen him do that character before, the rating probably got slightly inflated because he was in the movie.

As far as Reynolds goes, studios need to stop hiring him.

If I ever feel compelled to again, I'll only ever watch the original one.

The beauty of the good old school horror films is self explanatory, & all these re-imaginings or whatever you want to call them, are just ****ing pointless. Sure - think of new story concepts by all means to push the envelope, but by sucking a dry teet & using video game sensibilities in these current effects driven films - it all just becomes homogenized mud.

Snake Plissken
12-01-2013, 11:30 AM
The original is great, so original and unique. And the Cenobites are timeless, their design never ages. Hellraiser II isn't bad, I just hate they kill Pinhead in it. Clive Barker is directing the remake with Doug Bradley as Pinhead again, I have high hopes for that considering I'm totally against remakes of any kind.

VintijDroidGutzz
12-01-2013, 11:34 AM
Yeah - that's fine (I saw the new thread btw), but lightning seldom strikes twice. Recapturing the original magic is next to impossible; those classic films ARE so, because of multiple factors.

Just because the same director's involved in a revamp, doesn't guarantee rainbows really - & there's multiple examples obviously to prove that. :lol

That said - I hope Barker gives the fans another classic.. we'll see.

Snake Plissken
12-01-2013, 11:41 AM
Yeah I don't see it recapturing the only magic from the 80s, but I'm sure it will beat the **** out of most of the regurgitated nonsense we've gotten with horror films the last decade.

Thought it would be an interesting concept, but in the end it was just a really lame movie. Just 90 minutes of childish behaviour. I know this is the concept, but it just sucked.

I had hoped the ending would be shocking with someone going haywire and accidentaly killing somebody, but no... the movie just stopped.

Christoph Waltz was pretty good though.

Haha watched this last night on iplayer. Gotta say I loved it. It's a silly little movie about two couples arguing. That's it. But for some reason I found It captivating.

At first I was kinda upset that it was over, because there wasn't an ending. Then I was just glad it was over, because it sucked. Now I'm just sad that I wasted 90 minutes on this crapfest.

Hard to score...interested to hear what others think who have seen it. Unique kills, but reveal of what is going on was a little quick and easily guessed about 20 min into the movie. Nice scenery though and the actresses all easy on the eyes. Neat camera tricks and editing I thought. A little confused by the resolution but worth watching. My ratings and comments intentionally vague.

Opening scene almost should have been a slowly revealed flashback spread throughout the movie.

Yeah - all the typical movie cliches. :lol

There were some great ideas in there though, & the fact that it was constantly taking the piss out of itself made it funny. The main baddie guy was creepy as **** too. :lol

The kid got annoying pretty quick.

Yeah - I don't have any real endearing memory of the film, but I do remember the marketing & TV ads etc.

Arnold's completely likeable in this; the action, all the clever nods, the cameos, the comic elements - it's actually a solid film for the most part. I'm a BIG Arnold fan, but wasn't compelled to ever see TLAH - & the only reason I've just watched it, is because I found it really cheap on DVD the other day. Glad I own it now.

There are other Arnold films that I still haven't seen, like Eraser & Collateral Damage - not really interested. There's also others that are a one watch only affair too (Junior, End Of Days).

Still haven't seen The Last Stand either.

If the movie is even close to the tone of trailer, it will be the Godzilla movie I've been waiting for since the original.

Awesome suspense and psychological thriller and I'm picky about my horror movies. The Conjuring rocks! :rock

Man Of Steel : 4.5/10

I won't even begin the insurmountable task of giving this movie a critical breakdown, but I don't think it ever had a chance with Snyder trying to cram so much into one movie.

My head won't allow me to enjoy a film where one man can defeat a nations entire military force :lol

Edit: However, I should not dismiss Rambo [2008], that was a really decent film actually.

You gotta love a guy who shoots his gun once. All the bad guys go down, yet a 100 of them would be firing at him and somehow miss him. :rotfl

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - 6/10

The Purge - 7.5/10 for the concept, the production and most of the casting/acting. But 5/10 for the ending and the meh climax. And seriously wtf is wrong with that family? Theyre all incredibly retarded. And the kids were just stupid as hell. Great parenting. Nobody ever points out that EVERYTHING that happend that night is the sons fault. Soooo ****ing stupid.
