No one saw Ender's Game.

Ahhh I misunderstood the angle.... that there was no angle. If that's the case, then I agree. It feels that way. Ender's Game is not my forte of must-watch films, but alas it ended up being the choice of the day. The other options at the time were lacking.... It was that or nothing. If it was any other day (not my Birthday), I may have opted for nothing. However, it felt like I should do something that day. lol Ended up actually doing a lot, among a 4 AM house cleaning with a friend while in a drunken state. Good times.

I need to see Thor 2 prior to November 18th. The catch for me, that it's tied down to that night's episode of SHIELD, and I have a free movie pass. Might as well use it on a 3D IMAX experience vs the cheaper regular route. Not a big sequel guy, but the tie-in to a TV series has me intrigued. Hopefully it's worth it!

Film of the year I think. Didn't think Mud would be beaten this year for me but this topped it.

The most immersive, intense film I think I have ever watched. The 3D was so impressive! Finally a film where it was really warranted.

Never been a huge fan of Bullock but her performance here is as good as it gets.

Need to digest this a lot more and take in the majestic filmmaking I have just witnessed.

Watch Rush. It's even better than Mud and Gravity. Better story than Mud and more authentic and accurate than Gravity. Yes, yes, Rush is based on a true story. One could say it's an unfair comparison to make, but a lot of the physics in Gravity would not happen in real-world situations. Which, lets face it, is selling itself off with the realistic vibe.

R.I.P.D. - 6/10

I guess I could be a bit more generous to this film. It wasn't really bad, but it really wasn't that great either. Basically Men in Black but with the after life instead of Sci Fi. If they continue I'd definitely watch to see it get better.

The To Do List - 3/10

I honestly can't figure out how bringing together so many comedic actors together and not be funny works out in films like these. Horrible dialogue and not in the "it'll be a cult hit in 10 years sort of way". Just nothing noteworthy and totally bad line readings all around. I understand it's about getting laid and not making a big deal about it but it was so heavy handed and tried so hard to play it cool that it was just LAAAAAAAME.
As a few asides; Clark Gregg is just not funny. This film does not help his case. Also how do two incredibly white people (one a ginger) end up having two raven haired daughters, especially one that looks like she was adopted from Puerto Rico? (I know she's Puerto Rican). Just silly in a not even funny way.

No not a prequel since the Mansion was never an entrance to the lab under Raccoon in the games. It's in a parallel universe.

I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. From some of the reviews I read I thought a story line was going to be practically non existent and whilst it wasn't great it certainly wasn't bad imo.

My point was just that campy Batman would still be true to some incarnations of the character, whether it's the right approach or not. But I agree with your take on the character, sounds like Grant Morrison's style. I love how he introduces the campiest elements of Batman's past and manages to craft the most badass Batman stories ever around them. It gves them an added depth with more interesting concepts to chew on than the standard story.

The Wolverine Extended Uncut Edition - 8/10

I didn't realize how much was actually cut from the original film. Some parts really add the visceral edge you expect from a Wolverine story. The blood, the longer fights. But there were also a lot of F-bombs which seemed really weird. I guess it makes sense that in the real world, Logan would swear up and down the X-Mansion. There were also some nice added dialogue scenes between characters, but the final gauntlet fight to the tower was weird because they through in an extra sequence that seemed out of place even though it was filmed to be that way. It made it much more gory but fun. Either way, it didn't make it worse but it's a nice cut of the film.

In terms of story and performances, the film was a'aight, but the objective of the film seemed to really be producing a memorable melodramatic, and at times really visceral and brutal style. The same may be said for Drive, though these films had very different ways of doing that. I'm not at all familiar with Thai films, but I wonder if the filmmaker was trying to ape the style of some of those.

Refn is good at getting the audience to turn away from the screen.

Obviously we've got some major grade inflation in this thread, but for me, there are some legit classics that could warrant that score IMO. Not many, but films that exceed just about perfectly at what they set out to do. Citizen Kane, Casablanca, the Maltese Falcon, Dr. Strangelove, and maybe a few more modern ones like Alien, the Big Lebowski, and A History of Violence.

Only God Forgives: 6.5/10

I only seen half of those. I feel sometimes people list movies, (some they haven't even seen, but know they are usually of the highly respected variety), for the sake of sounding like elitists. I admit I haven't seen all the greats. Not saying you haven't seen those. I meant it more as a general statement.

Anyway, I definitely need to watch some of those, and for the others, revisit them as it has been a while.

I ignore people who use inflated scores. I am surprised for so many movie snobs here, nobody has shown interest in 12 Years a Slave. I am planning on going this weekend to see it and was hoping someone here would chime in with a review.

I watched this again last night too. 2nd viewing.
I'd say 8/10 after reading up on the intent of the story.
its def a WTF movie the first time through.

It's a tough movie to review, since it doesn't have the typical fluidity in its flow or rich story telling that comes with a strong movie. But it's shot like one and the characters themselves, have so much potential. Love the mother... what a wicked and demented character. Gorgeous visuals. Just a stunning package, albeit it is both forceful and lacking in certain areas.

I wanted so badly to love this, and who knows maybe with another viewing I may gain new appreciation for it, or simply shut it off 20 minutes in. It's definitely no Drive, but it's not your typical Hollywood hype machine crap that has been put out there either.

You should see City of God, World's Fastest Indian, and the Whale Rider. Some gems that people may not be aware of. Well, City of God everyone should know about, but you would be surprised by how few know of its existence. Frequency is also a good film, even if it's not a foreign or independent release. It's one of those Hollywood gems that slip through the cracks, like a Sandlot, Indian in the Cupboard, or Radio Flyer. Again, not everyone finds those movies their cup of tea, but I love them.

btw Laugh as you may, but I love John Carter of Mars. Such a good movie. I never grow tired of it, and I love Lynn Collins. What a gorgeous specimen she is.

I know I love it because every time they show it on television I watch the entire thing through. Not many films have that kind of power over me.

Escape Plan - 7,5/10

Suddenly good...
Plot may seem predictable but kept me in suspense until the very end. Great shooting overall, modern techniques works well in close space and adds to atmosphere - something that can rarely be seen nowadays. Humor nicely dilutes the tension. And HOLY **** that cast is awesome!

Some CGI was completely unnecessary. Secondary storyline with "sidekicks" wasn't involved in the plot thus a waste of time it is, plus sitting through 50Cent's attempts in acting was painfull... thk God his on-screen seconds can be counted on the fingers of one hand. The final third was too damn long and felt like an inappropriate mix of old action movies with all these firing, slow-mo and cliche which sharply contrast with the rest.

Anyway I didn't expect anything and was pleasantly surprised, do not regret the money spent and 115 minutes of life :lol

The hunger games, catching fire: 80

Surprisingly good, the 1st one was a big yawn fest for me, didn't care for any of the characters, this one was the complete opposite, I was cheering and booing, the end scene was just a hell of a performance by Jennifer Lawrence.

I'm excited for the 3rd one.

A really weird movie but strangely enjoyable. Reminded me of a demented American Beauty. :lol

End of Watch - 7/10

This would of gotten an 8 but I personally can't stand found footage and shaky camera so it drops a little. That and the butch girl with the cap hanging around with the gangsters was almost unbearable to watch and I just couldn't take her seriously.
