Honestly, I haven't watched Spanish horror movies much (any recommendations). But I really like Del Toro's presentation. Especially with the Spanish Civil War in the backdrop, it had a similar feel like Pan's Labyrinth. Tonight I'll be watching Cronos. :)

Mhm let's see, Rec (maybe Rec 2 too), Julia's eyes, The Orphanage.

They're all great.

Yup, Del Toro's something else these days, a much needed boost for fantasy movies.

I don't think there was enough there to make an almost 2 hour documentary about it. Even more strange is that there is some interesting theories out there and the vast majority featured on this were total crap.

What I take from the Shining personally is that it's a movie about the horrors of the past and people ignoring them and it all happening again. Jack having nightmares , Grady not remembering butchering his family , the mention of Indian burial grounds and fighting Indians away from the hotel with a sense of glee. Gallons of blood squeezing from the elevator doors which are shut as if the truth can't be held a secret. It was one guy that picked up on this for just a few minutes.

The fact that there are mirrors in every scene with a ghost could also be pointing to a persons own reflection ( I was really surprised this didn't get a mention unless I missed it ).

The Minotaur crap was ridiculous and the guy at the end saying his life was turning into the shining had me in stitches. :rotfl

well.. its a perfect example when directors dont know where to stop using CGI ... it was ridiculous to see the fight scene .. and the destruction they have to go through.. even fighting in open wide space they managed to hit a lonely small satellite ..The fight scene reminded me Mortal Kombat vs DC on PS3 ...

I'll probably watch the Remake of Robocop just because my friend worked on the special effects for it haha ( Support him and all that jazz )

God, the violence in Robocop was so over the top, but leaves me into a pile of emotional mess.

The violence in the original is why is was great, it didn't pull any punches and it wasn't soft at all. There will probably be barely any blood if any in the remake.

Before Senna and Prost, one of the most famous rivalries was that of Nikki Lauda and James Hunt. Even if you're not an F1 fan, this movie will suck you in, take you for a ride and then leave your heart pumping! Seriously! Daniel Brühl was great throughout - Right from the consistency of that accent, to the way he pulled off the entire role. Keeps you engrossed throughout. The races were equally gripping, get you to the edge of your seat (at least I was :lol).

One of my favourite parts of the movie was when the two Italians pick up Nikki. The entire theatre erupted in laughter for those 3 odd minutes.

Yeah it's definitely watchable and not as cheesy as B&R. Kilmer wasn't a bad Batman either.

Why? This movie is very nostalgic for me.
I still like the visuals, Kilmer did the best Bruce Wayne and the drama around him done perfectly.
Outside of those... too much silly and ridiculous. Tho both TLJ n JC had a great time playing crazy *** 60s villains, I can't hate 'em.

There's much more good than bad in BF.

House of Cards Season 1: 7/10
Very smart and sharply written. The performances are incredible. The look and feel is also quite nice. David Fincher directed the first 2 episodes and kind of established the look. I personally noticed the difference between his two episodes and the rest of the season. There was something…more…in his episodes that the others just didn't have. It's hard to explain. It was just that little extra *something* that put his 2 episodes over the edge. That doesn't mean the rest weren't any good, because they were.

It is a kind of depressing, or frustrating, show because it demonstrates (probably very accurately) how Washington and politics work and how petty and self-serving politicians can be. And you can't really sympathize with any of the characters because they are all flawed in various ways. And there were a couple of filler episodes that probably could have been axed, despite it being a short 13 episode season. One thing that annoyed me was that they left the season unresolved. It wasn't a cliffhanger per se, but it was certainly open ended with some major events still left to play out.

Looking forward to Season 2.

Yeah - truth be told, I don't mind 'Forever' for the reasons you've mentioned. Kilmer did good, Carrey was at his peak then, & some of the story's darker elements were still present, thanks to Burton still being on board.

B&R has it's own.. charm, yes. That said - I saw them both recently in the shops extremely cheap - the 2 disc DVD sets, so - ehh, I bought'em. :huh :lol

I think it was a good remake, it obviously didn't pack the unintentional and intentional humor from the classic movies but the classic movies I could not see them as horror, just a weird mixture of gore with great practical fx and a genius protagonist with a hint of comedy, well in short, Raimi's own genre, but not horror, the new one I could see it as horror and the performances were pretty good, it will never reach classic status whatsoever but I think it was decent enough, it would have probably got better reception if it wasn't named after a classic. :lol

That "one by one we will take you" scene was so spooky in the new one, I think they used the same audio track from the original.

I'd give it at least a 7.

I've been wanting to watch that movie out of pure morbid curiosity, is there anything particularly redeeming about it?

CelticPredator

Quite a lot, actually. It's visually striking, with bits of odd and hilarious comedy sprinkled about. Not to mention a pretty stark look at the vapid American youth, and their "dreams".

It's a great movie. You just have to prepare. If you haven't seen Harmony's other films, you ain't got no business seeing Spring Breakers. You just won't get it. And I don't mean that in a "its soo deep way", you just literally won't understand how that crazy man's mind works, and you won't be prepared for what you're about to see.

That's pretty much what I was expecting, but I wasn't really sure if the movie would be just pure visuals and no substance.

I think I'm prepared for it :lol, I'll see it tomorrow, thanks for the synopsis, really helpful. :clap

It has substance. But it's a strange substance. It's what you want to bring to it. If you want to go in thinking it's a pile of vapid garbage with nothing going on, you can do that. But if you'd like to think it's something more, go for it. Because you can find it.

The best way I can describe it is it's nothing like what you think it's going to be and it flows like liquid. It's a liquid narrative.

Harmony compared his film to a song, which is interesting. It has beats like a song, and a repeating chorus throughout the film using Spring Break imagery when things begin to get crazier.

I really enjoyed it to be honest. I think the imagery alone did a great job of portraying the film's message. Though I'm betting that most of the youthful adults who saw the film just saw it as a bad gangster movie. :lol

Be warned: If you watch this movie close to bed time you might have nightmares of cornrose gangster-Franco whispering "Spriiiing breeeaaaak, spriiing breeaak forrrevaaa" in your ears... :lol

:lol duly noted.

Yup the visuals are what caught my eye in the 1st place in the trailers, looks really good.

I do hope it doesn't turn into another "god bless america", yuugh! I did not like that movie at all.

Batman 89 and Avengers for me tonight. The former because I got the Batmobile yesterday and the latter because I realised I hadn't watched it since I got Hulk.

Great films. Fight scenes in 89 Batman manage to be better than any fight scene in TDKR except maybe the first Bane/Batman fight. Avengers has yet to get old, never as good as that first viewing but that could be said of everything.

She was obviously in on the scam the entire time, I'm just a bit confused as to what her actual role was.

Her role was to fake a suicide attempt and then manipulate whatever psychiatrist assigned to her into thinking that standard medications wouldn't work on her. Which would prompt them into contacting her former psychiatrist for help (which just happened to be her partner in the scheme) so Jones could suggest trying that new experimental drug. Then Mara's job was to murder her husband while on the drug (exploiting the side effect of patients sleep walking) to tarnish the manufacturer's image and drop its stock to make Mara and Jones rich.

Any suggestions on good movies to watch on Halloween?

I've never been a huge horror fan outside of sci-fi, so I haven't seen many of the classics like Halloween, Friday the Thirteenth, American Werewolf in London, etc. Those are all on my list though.

What else should I check out?

She thought Catherine Zeta Jones double crossed her and made a deal with Jude Law to cut her out of the profits.
