Silver Linings Playbook - 8.5/10

Loved it, though I think his transformation from super nervous ADD anxiety aspergers guy to pretty normal guy was a bit...quick. I get that he started taking his medication again, but I can't imagine it having such a strong affect on him that like 90% of his mental illness issues would almost instantly be resolved.

I would've enjoyed this a lot more had it been an original story rather than ripping off ideas from Evil Dead and calling it a remake. And I liked the gore effects quite a bit, but there seemed to be some continuity problems.

Wolverine - 7/10. Overall its a good movie, way better than that xmen origins crap, however while watching it I felt as though something was missing for the whole duration. A payoff that never happened. A "weak" Logan allowed for a better story and more drama, but it also had the effect of making the movie feel as though it wasnt a superhero film. Hugh was great but wolverine seemed less like a superhero in this movie and more like an ordinary man. A decent flick that falls short of excellence by ommitting some key ingredients generally found in superhero flicks, and by failing to have a big payoff sequence worthy of the titular character

The Bourne Legacy ... 7/10. Not nearly as good as the other three. But, an interesting spin-off of the Bourne movies. Jeremy Renner was capable, though not as interesting as Damon. Really liked Edward Norton, though. I could give-or-take the broad from The Mummy. Didn't much like the 'drug' plotline.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes ... 8/10. Surprisingly good, actually. Didn't expect much.

American Reunion ... 6/10. Nothing groundbreaking ... but a fitting conclusion. Funny enough.

The Notebook ... 5/10. Eh. I can see why chicks like it.

Critics seem to be loving the work of Ben Wheatley.
From what I've seen of his work so far I'm not a fan , Kill List was a disappointment and I found this boring. I've still yet to watch " A field in England " but I wont be in any rush to see it based on this.

The Wolverine - 7/10 Best one so far. I suspect the uncut/directors cut bluray could improve that score just a tad.

The Sound of My Voice - 7.5/10 I need to rewatch this one for sure. Not sure exactly what to make of the plot yet.

The Bourne Legacy - 5/10 Rachel Weisz thouroughly ruins this movie as hard as she can. Some things we're too rehashed like the motorcycle chase with her on the back and going down steps etc. But Weisz has lost every ounce of talent and is just a terrible actress now.

Ghosts of Mars - 6/10 Not bad but the way Ice Cube and the cops kept getting the drop on each other and taking the other's weapons got to be like a keystone cops sketch. Carpenter clearly hasn't had much experiance shooting movies like this with so much cgi etc.

Omen 3: The Final Conflict--6/10

This was a weird movie. I like the way it started out, making Damien out to be a really sneaky bastard who did lots of charity work, feeding hungry masses, etc. while planning his ambitions of making the world safe for Satan. But it slowly started becoming more predictable, and by half-way through a lot of the tension was gone. Ending was pretty lame IMO. Some nice death scenes though. Some pretty shocking moments. Neil is very good in the role.

What's it about?

It's a French film originally called Intouchables.

It is about a wealthy quadriplegic man that enlists the help of an immigrant in quite funny circumstances. They strike up a strong relationship despite their very apparent class differences. The immigrant (Driss) gives the wealthy quadriplegic man a renewed sense of joy from life. The two leads have wonderful chemistry together. This is a seriously good feel good movie. It is a must see in my opinion.

Edit: forgot to add it is a true story.

Just watched two movies this last weekend.

LOVED one, and HATED the other.

"Django Unchained" was great! It's a revenge movie, with a very simple plot, but very well paced and despite being quite long, it kept me entertained all the time. The balance between dialogue, character development, and action was perfect, the era was very well re-created, and loved most of the acting.... Christoph Waltz was BRILLANT, Samuel L. Jackson and DiCaprio were great, too. Not very convinced by Jamie Foxx, but he was O.K. at least.

"Prometheus" is just the most nonsensical movie I've seen in a very long time. Visually stunning to look at, incredible landscapes, amazing sets, the Giger themed decoration in the sets is breathtaking, and a healthy dose of Charlize Theron in skin-tight flight suit don't hurt, either.
But the story is where this movie failed miserably, IMO. Plot holes everywhere, things that made no sense, and the complete lack of a clear purpose or direction for everything that was happening. Plus, too many characters of which most were merely decorative and/or cannon fodder. And the few characters that got some screen time, were very underdeveloped. Even the main roles, their motivations weren't clear at all.
Anyway... I watched this one upon the recommendation of a friend... should have seen it coming, we've got very different views and tastes in movies.

Don't recommend either of them, though. "Django Unchained" is good, but it's Tarantino, and lots of people seem to dislike the guy's style on principle. Plus, it revolves around very delicate subjects - slavery and racism - and viewers with different sensibilities may react differently, even in opposite ways, to much of what is shown in it.
"Prometheus" is just a bad movie. If you want to see it just for the eye-candy, go for it. But don't expect a good story at all, because it's just not there

Yep. That's what I said.

It had a lot of really good reasons to be a terrible movie -- remake of a lousy teenybopper show from the 80s ... based on a goofy concept of undercover cops going back to high school ... starring Channing Tatum, Ice Cube and James Franco's little brother.

By any reasonable guess ... it should've been much worse.

Elysium:
Went to a screening last night. Enjoyed it, but some of the plot was very circumstantial (I know, that is how most movies are...something about this one just bugged me about it. Might have had to do with the quick screen edits and changes from location to location).

Beautiful scenery and camerawork, although some of the fights suffer from quick edit and Matrix slow-mo syndrome.

Some cool unexpected plot twists. Wish the mech suit functionality was featured more. Hoping for a directors cut that expands on the scenes and world.

7-7.5 / 10

Heh. You forgot the title of the movie. Details, details.

Zero Dark Thirty ... 8/10. My biggest complaint is the lighting on the raid. There were parts that were so dark that you couldn't make out what, if anything, was going on. It was just a black screen. Which sucks since its the part you've been waiting to see.

I'm going to guess that Neill did a better job of making it subtle, but the studio wanted something more accessible for the summer audience. So Neill wanted to get his point across in the most blunt way possible.

Enter The Void: 8/10

Possibly one of the most interesting/strangest/conflicting movies I've seen. If it wasn't for all the needless sex towards the end that made it feel like a softcore porno it would have been perfect. Seriously, give this indy film a shot.

Pleasantly surprised by this one. Wasn't as over the top as I expected it to be.

The Lone Ranger 8.5/10

I enjoyed the flick, Depp was awesome, so was Hammer, Fitchner was a great villian. Nice to see real local sets instead of CGI crap every second. Enjoyable, will get the blu'ray and prolly the HT Tonto if it is ever released.

Really liked this! Brutal, gory and serious while still being respectful of the original.

Spring Breakers....?/10 I have no idea how to rate this. It was well made and I loved James Franco...but the plot was pretty meh. I didn't really care for anybody or where the story went. It was well shot and surprisingly well acted. I just....didn't care I guess? I think the mistake was sending Selena Gomez's character home so fast. She was the only girl who was likable.

Olympus has fallen - 6.5/10

Cliched but entertaining enough.

I fully enjoyed this film. Sure it was a giant Die Hard rio off. But if you are going to rio off a film then Die Hard is a good one.

I thought it avoided a couple of cliches that I thought we were going to see coming but did not (Presidents Son).

Was not expecting much and ended up having a blast.
3.5 out of 5. I could almost give it a four but I know my low expectations had a lot to do with my overall final enjoyment. Not sure how it will hold up with a second viewing.

In honor of the forthcoming Rainman figure--Taxi Driver: 8/10

Excellent character study of a lunatic. I worked in a psych unit once many moons ago, and ran across guys who had some of Travis's personality and behavioral quirks. Much respect to Deniro and Scorsese for putting together such a convincing portrayal of such an unconventional character.
