WWZ - I am not sure how to rate this 6.5 or 7 out of 10 maybe??

I think I would rank it 7.5 out of 10 had they not shown every cool action scene in the trailers. I would have given it an 8.5 out of 10 had they put in the red gooey stuff.

The ending was a bit weak.

I did not read the book so that may have helped my enjoyment.

Battle Royale (2000) - 8.5/10. Not as brutal in today's standards but pretty solid.

Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) - 10/10. How could I have not seen this? This is the definitive Western gunslinger film I've been looking for. And to think that it came from Dario Argento, Bernardo Bertolucci, and Sergio Leone -- just wow -- from acting to cinematography to Ennio Morricone's soundtrack.

It's still The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for me. I have trouble getting into Once Upon a Time in the West.. Not that Good, Bad, and Ugly is a fast paced film but Once Upon just drags for me.

But I loved all the characters in the Eastwood flick so perhaps that's what the difference it. I think I may have to give Once Upon a Time another viewing.

I thought the film was great because it was one of the first in depth History lessons of a history I lived through. I was worried about getting lost in all the names and tech talk... But because I was up to date because of watching and reading so much news I just found easy and interesting to follow, amazing and compelling.

First there was 911 itself. Many would say with the intelligence the States have at their disposal, that atrocity should never have happened in the first place.

Secondly it took the best part of a decade to track one man down. Billions of dollars later and many lives lost. In the end it wasn't torture that found OBL it was good old fashioned intelligence.

Of course you have the whole interrogation techniques fiasco.

It's a stain on the history of America.

I finally watched Batman Forever for the first time in about 18 years, last night. :lol

6.75 / 10

After getting familiar with it again, I can see why some folks stand by Val Kilmer as having done a decent job in his own right - & I agree, he was actually quite good. Apparently there's a whole section they took out concerning Bruce Wayne's inner fears or trauma.. or something - some sequence. That image of the real life bat in flight closing in - great stuff. References to the 'Dark Knight' here & there.. cool. You can also see that Tim Burton still had a presence in making this film - some classic Burton stuff in there.. albeit diluted.

Other positives are definitely Jim Carrey - over the top & all, but fitting in the context of things I guess, & he WAS in his prime back then, so awesome to see him do his thing. He's a living cartoon!

Nicole Kidman was absolutely DELICIOUS back then - & I don't think she's ever looked better since. That said - her character was crap. :lol

The rest - yuk. Tommy Lee Jones was wasted - utterly. The Batmobile looked like a stupid wind up toy. The sonar suit was pure k@k@.

I'll be watching Batman & Robin soon.. it's been almost as long since I last saw that too. :monkey4 :lol

Hellboy: 6/10

+Ron Perlman born for the role, first film I truly started appreciating him
+Guillermo del Toro is the only director who could bring alive Mignolia's work
+Great effects, costumes and makeup. Besides Abe and Red, Kroenen looked fantastic and Sammael looked real
+Great job dealing with morals and choices forced on us

-Director's cut is a bit long, love triangle subplot drags
-PG-13 rating, could of used R imo. Where blood should be, it's replaced by gimmicks, like gumball machine splattering gumballs
-Finale battle was a bit of a letdown

That scene was really too much. Probably the scene I disliked the most. Felt like something out of a Disney movie. I also think all the action scenes in general were too bloated, and am in a minority when I thought the first hour was the best part. Still really enjoyed the film.

A goofy movie, but I found it enjoyable in a guilty pleasures kinda way.

Surprised it got two such high profile names for the leads. Shannon really surprised me taking this on. Felt like a pay cheque movie for him and JGL.

I couldn't disagree more with this. Premium Rush was a fun movie. See, I think they saw the script and said, hmmm, looks like fun. Love the graphics which route he should take. Depending on the wrong one, it would end in disastrous results. That was a nice touch. I love niche films that take a different approach on things.

Also, you had to feel for Shannon's character. What bad luck he had, of course all was created by his own ignorance/stupidity. :lol

It was fun but not great. Yeah I kinda like the 'which route to take' graphic as you say. I didn't say I didn't like it, I just didn't think it was anything special. I think if I was a hormonal teenager all over again, I might have liked it better. The plot felt thin on the ground.

I just wouldn't have associated JGL and Shannon with these type of roles.

It's fresh in that there's more to it than the typical story of survivors holing up somewhere, things fall apart, survivors get over run, a few escape. WWZ is about a person trying to find some sort of way to remedy the situation.

Actually.. in all seriousness, it does have one or two decent things going for it. :lol

Uma Thurman.
She is awesome. I mean it. A complete stunner, & does the tongue in cheek villainess thing perfectly.

Arnold.
As always he's larger than life, & when you're an Arnold fan - you look for the good, & there's glimmers in this. His lines are ridiculous - except for one:
"..my name is Freeze - learn it well, for it is the chilling sound of your impending doom!"

How do you top that line? :lol

Some of the stunts are pretty cool; like Batman's acrobatics etc.

All in all - it is kinda like you said a-dev; a tip of the hat to the 60s era - Michael Uslin even describes it so in the documentary on the DVD.. which is surprising because I thought he'd rubbish them, but he validates both Schumacher films.

I only watched 'Forever' the other day too, & I see why people defend it. It still retains the Burton factor to a degree, & Val Kilmer was really good in the role as others have said. He picked up from where Keaton left off.. almost.

Give B&R a watch a-dev - it's worth one more at least. :lol

Yeah, the twist... I didn't hate it, but it didn't wow me either.

It was obvious all along that the 5th Horseman had something to do with Shrike, but I expected it would be one of the other FBI agents who was the mastermind.
In the end I thought it was good that it was Ruffalo though, because otherwise he'd really would've been the guy who got fooled all movie long.

So that didn't bother me that much. I think what bothered me the most was that some of the technology was a bit too farfetched especially in the end with the activating of the carroussel by using the cards and the glass in the tree and stuff.

Overall it was a good watch. It had some good humor, some cool magictricks and action and good actors. And it's always nice to see Mélanie Laurent. :D

Finally saw Man of Steel tonight. I have to give this a 7/10. Cavill was great for the role...very charistmatic. But I didnt like Shannon at all. He just didnt fit the role. And the last 30 minutes just drug on. I felt like there was an overload of action and didnt have a chance to breathe. It was a good movie...just not the best. Sorry.

It is depressing, I won't BS you there. I don't need a happy ending all the time though. It's an excellent story about survival and sticking together during a hopeless time. Salvaging something decent from something tragic. At least that's how I see it.

I agree with you. I'll rewatch it one of these days. But it stuck with me, and continues to do so long after I saw it opening day.

It's a fantastic film. Wish Joe Carnahan got more praise for it.

OMG yes!!! That movie made me want to slit my wrists every minute it was on! If I was one of those characters I totally would have killed myself.

If it wasn't for the very very end with Guy Pearce, I would have burned that DVD and mailed back the charred remains to Netflix.

Still, it was a well made movie with excellent performances. But I never ever want to see it again.

Interesting concept. Great casting. Perfect execution. Great for kids ... and enough grown-up humor for parents. Just a really solid family movie.

Expendables 2- 0.5/10

I imagine this is the type of movie Mac and Dennis for It's Always Sunny would write.
The dialogue is tired and cliched, Stallone looks totally bored and Van Damme looks like a drag queen without her wig.

Just finished up watching season 2 of "Game of Thrones" yesterday as well. This season definately made more sense to me than the first as I found myself getting lost plenty of times in season one with all the different wannabe kings etc. and all the different families...just so much to take in. The second season just brought it all together for me and inspired me to watch the first season over again now that I know what is going on and know all the characters really well.
I do have to admit much of the over use of dialogue almost makes "Game of Thrones" feel like a soap opera at times...and I hate how they wait until the last few minutes of each episode until something seriously brutal and wicked happens...just to tease the viewer into thinking the next episode will pick up right where the one before left off only to once again be introduced into more talking yada yada.

Still I do love this show and man that last episode at the ending of season 2 *SPOILER ALERT" with the White walker on the horse with those wicked blue eyes bright white hair and scream! That had to be one of the most out of this world characters I have ever seen on screen before...cgi or not that was amazing.

Man this series is only going to get better as the upcoming seasons arise.

the comparison for me has just been the nonstop "who' gonna stab who in back?" drama that really is the base of the series.
The quality is much higher than daytime soaps, but overall I can definitely see the relation.

Scum

I don't know what to rate this really, it's a powerful film. Horrible subject matter with very graphic and upsetting scenes.

This was made on the cheap, long before CGI and any touching up.

It's brutally realistic looking and that adds spades to its story and narrative.

A well made movie but of such uncomfortable subject matter that it confuses if its good or bad.
