Well, you have guessed wrong. I'm not really a Marvel fan and the only reason I watched The Avengers is because I had seen Iron Man and enjoyed it - haven't seen any of the other movies about Thor, Captain America etc and I thought the film was poor; with a heavy reliance on CGI, it was created just to make money.

I don't have a specific movie taste; my collection is varied and contains Die Hard to Lord of the Rings to 500 Days of Summer. Go figure.

I like Tarantino and enjoy his films but I just couldn't wait for Django to end.

Django Unchained:7/10

Enjoyed this one, but it should have ended an act sooner.

The shoot out at Candy Land should have played out differently and have him get away with his wife then. The last act just seemed to much and not needed. It made the film to long.

It's still very good. I'll definitely see it again.

Star Trek Into Darkness ... 9/10. Well done. Gave all the major characters plenty to work with ... which is actually unusual for a Trek movie. The TNG movies became far too much of a Picard/Data thing ... and this had the potential of becoming too much Kirk/Spock only. But, it resisted the temptation ... and set aside some great stuff for Bones, Scottie, Sulu, Uhura and Chekov.

Plot was compelling from beginning to end. I liked how they dealt with Kirk's inexperience right out-of-the-gate like that. I liked Harrison better than Nero. Pine has quite a few of Shatner's Kirk mannerisms down, without doing an impression. Karl Urban's Bones is still my favorite of the group.

Can't decide if its better than the first. Maybe so. I'll give it time before declaring it so.

There has never been a film series that took different characters, and brought them together from their own respective movies, all while keeping an established continuity over the course of the entire series. It's an idea that was never thought possible.

Roger Rabbit doesn't count. But it was the closest thing.

I dunno, i've never though Hollywood these days capable of doing something 100% new.

Although none come to mind there must be something in the vast history of movies where some are connected. Just seems likely to have happened once is all.

....

I just thought of one example :)

Tarantino's movies.

Earl Mcgraw the Cop from Dusk Til dawn has been in several Tarantino and Rodrguez movies as the same guy. The guy with the White Car they drive at the end of Death Proof was also the Rapist in Kill Bill. The Big Kahuna Burger is seen in a few i i think.

I think Quentin himself has stated they all his movies and some of Rodriguez' take place in the same continuity.

MCU is still by far be the most expansive and known to do it though :1-1:

CelticPredator

Yeah, but none of those films have a strict continuity. Sin City doesn't take place in the same world as Planet Terror, nor does Jackie Brown.

It's just a little fun gag. Not really taken that seriously.

Theres the rub... Nova doesn't even understand the point you're trying to make. His examples are more akin to Stephen King movie references, not the culmination of multiple movies coming together in one shared movie continuity. :lecture

I know exactly what you're talking about. But I don't think that's the same.

The Frankenstein films had to have led up to Abbott and Costello meeting them. That's the point of the Avengers. Doing everyone's backstory, and then bringing them together in one single film where each of the stories have cross-sect into one.

I'm pretty sure that hasn't been done until The Avengers.

I would like to go back and say Rodger Rabbit wasn't close at all.

See, what i'm talking about is, is a series of individual films, made with the intention of a cross over, finally intersecting and creating one singlar established universe between all the films.

Not just cross overs. I'm talking about a planned out movie crossing universe.

I get what you're saying. Like comic books. Like the source. Making a film series in the way Marvel did it is unique for movies, that's true, but they are simply patterning their movie plan the way they pattern their comics.

But the idea of creating "characters" with their own movies and then bringing them all together has been done in many Godzilla films. I'd say that's your closest source. The only difference is that with Godzilla that wasn't the overarching plan from the get-go... but it soon became the plan. Toho also had to build a universe from scratch whereas Marvel pulled from the establish comic universe.

But anyway, yes, its a whole new breed of cross-promotion... and corporate America loves that.

This is the only big popcorn franchise I am somewhat excited to see. I only saw Iron Man 3 because my friend wanted to go and I haven't hung out with them in a while. The Thor sequel does nothing for me. Too many Marvel movies... feels like overkill. Star Trek... meh. Never been much of a Trekkie. I will see it, but I can wait.

So why Fast and Furious 6? It's my guilty pleasure. Half of the time it makes no sense. Sometimes you need that stupid mindless fun ... It's nice in small doses.

It's a fun movie (they all are). It's not as good as the last 2 or the first, but it's really fun. The last sequence is very cool to.

@CelticP: Is this what you're trying (and failing lol) to say!?

The reason why The Avengers is "film history" is because it did something that had never been done before (or thought possible) when it comes to big budget movies i.e. films with a budget of 100 million dollars and up: It got passed the financial/logistical nightmare involved with having actors (not characters, but actors) who've appeared in/starred in their own successful movies to star in one single film together that incorporates all those individual characters (and all those high paid, individual actors).

I can't think of any other film to do that before (or since minus the next Avengers movie).

Star Trek Into Darkness: 8/10

I thought it was great. Pretty much in line with the first one.

The only things that bothered me:
I was disappointed that they went with Khan again. They have a whole universe of unique characters to choose from, and they went with the same villain from the second installment of the original movie series. That said, I liked the changes they made to the character/story.

And I didn't like the Kirk death. It felt very insincere and almost tacked on just so it would mirror the original Wrath of Khan. If I ignore that scene (and the ridiculous "KHAAAAAN!") and pretend maybe that he was still alive and needed Kahn's blood to cure his radiation, I can be happy with the movie.

Otherwise, great! Can't wait to get the BluRay and watch it again!

Agreed. I'd give the first one a lower score than this one. This one was far more entertaining to me and perhaps going in with low expectations, I was able to enjoy it about as much as you did.

These new movies are fun and they give me hope that we will see a fantastic return to form for Star Wars VII, but if I want Trek, I'll stream TOS or TNG. Ironically, if this was not a "Star Trek" movie but just some random sci-fi story being told, I might have rated it higher. But preconceived notions of what a Trek story should be did affect my rating.

Eastwood has said that there were scenes cut out of the movie by MGM that both he and the director protested. I guess they gave a little more backstory to some of the characters. As is he's never been happy with it.

Wyatt Earp (the Costner one) - 5/10

Saw this on telly last night. Ridiculously long even discounting the ad breaks. It just seemed like the same thing repeated over and over again for the entire run-time. The Earp family move into a town and set up as law-men, come to blows with scumbags and move on. And that seems like it happens about 2 or 3 times over till the credits roll. Pointless.

Tombstone, the Kurt Russell one, was much more concise and well done IMO.

Star Trek Into Darkness is great!

There is a funny YouTube video which mocks all the Star Trek fans complaining about the JJ movies in the form of a fake news report on the movie.

It goes something like; "Let's go to our entertainment correspondent, Diane Thompson, who is live at the Chinese Theatre. So, Diane, is Star Trek Into Darkness really as entertaining and thrilling as Trek fans are complaining it is?"

From what i've heard, the original version and the theatrical version are very different from one another. Even the title was changed from The Warriors to Kelly's Heroes. And MGM probably has a copy of the original cut but it will most likely never see the light of day. It was supposed to be a antiwar satire kinda like M*A*S*H and Catch-22 but MGM's new boss decided they wanted a action movie instead.

From what I've read it looks like none of the deleted scenes have ever been seen publicly...and after 40 years I doubt they ever will. They're probably just sitting in the MGM vaults. :(

I wish I enjoyed it more as a movie or as a ST movie.

Really it was just the first one all over again.

Bad guy wants revenge.

Kirk has to prove himself.

Kirk and Spock can't get along.

the characters should be beyond this. I did not think this would be a good SW movie either and I hope JJ does a better job picking a script.

SW and Empire were all about character development. If the new SW is like this last ST the there will be so much action that we wont get to know or care about anyone.

Wow. I don't even know where to begin.

The girls Lawyer forgetting to mention there was a 6 foot 4 mentally ill serial killer downstairs. " DUH , didn't you read the letter ". I can't believe they actually put that in the movie.

The terrible CGI and overuse of it even in places it clearly wasn't needed.

The pointless side story of the guy cheating on his girlfriend even though she never finds out and they both die anyway.

The cop who didn't care who killed who and then the next minute was trying to be the hero. He kept switching sides !. He must suffer from schizophrenia I suppose.

The annoying Mayor being more of a bad guy than Leatherface himself.

The entire town being worse people than Leatherface and his family.

The worst part of all. Leatherface turning into the good guy and saving the day, we don't want to sympathize with Leatherface !.

Oh no , hang on the worst part of all. The girl making the guys dinner who just killed all three of her best friends three hours earlier.

This was so bad. It reminded me more of the Adams family than TCM. :slap AVOID.

I saw The Hangover 3. It wasn't as painful as I thought. But it was dull, grating, and I can't remember anything about it.

Other then the fact that Chow, and Alan are horrible irredeemable characters who aren't funny in any way, and should've died horribly in the beginning.

Well, it couldn't hurt to watch 3 and 4 as well. Especially 4, since that's where they kinda start getting the current crew together.
3 could be skipped actually, there is one scene that just gives an extra layer and provides new insights into something that happens in part 3. (Because chronologically 3 takes place after 6).

Warm Bodies - 6 out of 10 Cute movie. However at 90 min it still felt long.

The first 10 min are the best when it's just him being a Zombie with his inner monologue. Had they somehow been able to pull off a whole film like that it could have been great. But it would have been hard to do I will admit that. But a Zombie film from the view of a zombie Could be fun.

Robocop - 9/10

I just watched this movie all the way through for the first time in close to 10 years. Incredible film. In fact, when it was over, I immediately restarted it and watched the entire film again! Not a lot of movies that I can do that with.

Interestingly enough when it ended the second time Terminator 2 was playing on TNT so I watched the Galleria sequence and the following truck chase. I was practically yawning at even the *action sequences* of T2 after Robocop. Before they even blew up the T-1000's semi I was already searching channels for something else.

Movies are made, cinema is created.

Just because a movie has ironic laughs does not make it a good movie. Kevin feige might say "hey you guys had a good time watching it right?" "That makes this a good movie!".

I would probably have a good time watching guys get kicked in the ***** for two hours on the big screen. But that does not make
it a good movie.

I hope Dc comics tries to cinema, not carbon copy movies.

How is T2 boring....??

By being a simple remake of the first film with less interesting characters, less desperate heroes, a less charismatic villain, a not as clever story (since it essentially is the same story minus the poetic "closing of the loop" that capped the first film) and extended sequences of dull "talking head" exposition. Some of the action is still cool, but for the most part its all just highly sanitized bigger budget versions of the same scenes from the first film.

T2 added a helicopter, so that was at least something different for about five minutes.

Well it was boring after I watched Robocop twice back to back. Its still a cool sequence but one that I realize I have to be in a nostalgic mood for to truly enjoy.

T2 blew me away in 1991. I really am curious to hear why you still think its a great movie by today's standards. Robocop is, T1 and Aliens are. Not so much T2 for me anymore.
