Three movies ?

Yeah, as Celtic said, Dark Fury. Not so much a movie as it's an animated short. Still good nonetheless and helps to connect the story of PB and Chronicles.

Iron Man 3 - 8/10

I liked it. it was good, not excellent but very good.

The Comedy was great, i think it'll hold up much better than the one-liner jokes of Avengers.

The connectivity to the other ACU movies was there but not thrust down our throats, more like references here and there but too often imo.

Characters were all around pretty decent with Pepper, Mandarin and Killian taking centre stage for me.

I'm conflicted about The Mandarin as the way he was presented was excellent and if used to his potential cold've been amazing.

With that said him as Trever was just funny as hell and Kingsly played it great.

The armours weren't the focus of the movie which was great, but same again it's a shame we didn't get to see them for more that a few seconds

I liked the "is it the man or the armour?" theme throughout the movie.

I wish Iron Patriot had more action.

Overall it's not as good as Iron Man but better than Avengers, IM2 & TIH and on par with Thor and TFA.

Pros:

The armour being used to capture and imprison people.
The theme was good and gave Tony Stark a chance to shine as himself
Trevor was funny
Extremis was cool in moderation (not with the homeland security woman for example)

Cons:

Mandarin not being Mandarin
The forced neatness of destroying all the armours so they couldn't be used whenever needed in future like with the Avengers.
Pepper becoming Superhuman which was cool but then erased not long after.
Not fully explaining how he was able to control the armour with his mind at the beginning.
The Kid was good at first but got boring quick.

Man, I went into this thinking it was going to be an action movie with hilarious one liners, but damn this movie is dark, dark, dark, yet really funny.

It's totally different than Bay's other stuff. I would say more intelligent. The Rock was fantastic.

Green Lantern - 7/10

A tremendously flawed film that fell very short of the great potential it had. Yet, I still enjoy enough of the film to validate it for myself. Ryan Reynolds is often unfairly bashed for this performance, but I think he does just fine with the material he was given. Mark Strong is incredible and steals scenes like only the best actors can, and the musical score is fun and at times exciting. Bear in mind I do have a DC bias over Marvel, and part of me is still happy that a live action Green Lantern film was made in the first place, even if it's nowhere near as good as it should have been.

Ryan Reynolds should stay away from comic book films - PERIOD.

Just because he worked out for BladeIII, XMO:W & GL - & can recite a few lines in the flavour of the subject matter, doesn't mean he automatically qualifies to play these characters - the guy's a bad fit. He has the kind of head you want to back hand. :lol

Haven't rated this yet but already said my part in the relevant thread. Iron man 3. A mess of a film where characters jump from one location to another, say a cheesy one liner, blow some stuff up and have a laugh. This made the second movie look like a masterpiece. The cgi on the suits was crap, mark 42 was a joke and honestly I'm quite fed up with the Tony Stark character. The twist in the middle of the film was literally a joke. The worst of the marvel avengers team movies. 3/10

This movie looked amazing and some of the technology in the universe was really cool. It probably could have been about 20 minutes shorter, though I did watch the extended director's cut. Not as good as the first, or as Captain America, Hulk or Thor ... and definitely not as good as Avengers, but it wasn't bad at all. More related to Avengers than I thought it'd be. Very cool intro to Black Widow.

The Place Beyond The Pines - 9/10

As a fan of Ryan Gosling, and an even bigger fan of Drive, I was sold on this movie as soon as I heard it was in production. Now, having actually seen it, I can safely say it truly was a great movie. Sure there are plenty of similarities and parallel's to Drive, but the performances of Gosling and Cooper made this a very good movie on its own. Coupled with the engaging, interesting and thrilling story, I would highly recommend!

I saw Roger Waters perform The Wall ~2 years ago. Nothing beats seeing it live. If you get the chance you must see it. Trust me.

I saw Pink Floyd in '87 and that was also amazing but The Wall was a better show. Pink Floyd with late 80's synthesizers hasn't aged well for me. I can't remember the last time I listened to Momentary Lapse or Division Bell.

Back on topic - the kids had Ella Enchanted on last night. Early Anne Hathaway. It's Cinderella with some Shreck humor. Bleeh.

The problem is, the movie does well making you like these characters. But in the end, you end up conflicted of wether you liked it them or not. Because they're douches. :lol

I think that is what makes it really great.

I also think it was a great "period" piece of its own.

8.5/10 for me.

Really :dunno

Iron man 3 8.5/10. Loved it! So very different from any Marvel film that has come before. Even the previous Iron Man films. Just a way different tone to it, like more of a buddy cop movie than a comic book film. RDJ has never been better and really shows just how hard it would ever be to recast for the role of Iron Man.

Drive 7/10 It was pretty decent. I could understand if you never heard of it and watched it why you would hype it up to others. Soundtrack was very good, action was very good-all though pretty freaking unbelievable but not much these days isn't. So yeah.

I haven't seen P & G, but it's like the cheapest beer in the store, even if you haven't tried it, you won't dare. Unless you're one of those, "I'll punish my taste buds and my brain, and **** you liver! Go to hell!" You ever heard the saying you get what you pay for? Starting to think movies that are directed by Michael Bay should come at a discount. Especially movies of his that aren't cacooned in an over-abundance of special effects of yesteryear, almost to say, "Hey *******, come and blow money on my movie and waste two hours of your life!Screw the money... your time is obviously worth f-all if you can see my garbage." Also, see Tyler Perry films... why the frack does every one of his movies make crazy money?!

Then you have some lonely independent movie, with no flash saying, "Sure I am not full of loud explosions, beefy men, and hot *** (that's the typical tall leggy blonde or brunette on the Diet Coke and Cigarette diet that Bay throws in for good measure), but I have heart, and substance." Not referring to a Place Beyond the Pines. But even that, which stars some major Hollywood actors, still seems to be ignored for the "LOOK AT ME! Sorry. But ****ing hell. Everything you've said was straight up wrong. Cash grab? A cash grab that took almost 15 years to make...that Michael Bay had to get everyone on board to make paycuts, and direct two ****ty Transformers movies just to get it greenlit. Yeah. What a cash grab.

You know how much Pain and Gain costs? 20 Million bucks. That's 5 million less then Pines. You're acting like the world should be ****ting their pants over that movie, when they never would. Why the **** would assume this? Most people don't give a flying **** about films like we do. They only care about escapism.

But the funny thing is you're freaking out over a movie that got a wide release. WIDE. Over a thousand theaters. They didn't chuck it in some small little arthouse theater on the corner of Portland, Oregon where it would've made a grand total of 100 bucks. It made it's budget back already. Could do better...sure. But it was never going to be a film that would do gang busters.

Orgy of the Dead - 4.5/10 - Cause Ed Wood was attached to it, had to watch it. A couple nice looking naked chicks, but rather dull. Worth seeing at least for the terrible Criswell acting.

IM3 6/10 for continuity issues with the tech used by stark, the intentional and complete disregard for the arc reactor and its importance in earlier films and to the character of ironman. An ending that felt tact on, and wasnt properly explained. Major leaps in logic and ability to forget everything that we knew about the suit and how it is powered in the films. No I am not being harsh. If u haven't seen any of the other ironman movies or just watched avengers u will probably like this movie more than me.

Why I gave a 6 and not lower. Action set pieces were well executed and it was funny, take away the humor, which RDJ pulled off masterfully and its a complete stinker. RdJ's acting saved this movie that's for sure..

Already gave my lengthy opinion on the IM3 thread. No point posting here again (if I do, people will accuse me of beating a dead horse). Besides, it's called RATE the last movie you watch, not REVIEW the last movie you watched.

Uh oh. :lol

And I found a compromise. So you'll just have to deal with it. :yess:

Critics did too, but mostly because of RDJ's acting and the witty dialog in the script. None of the reviews I read even pointed out or cared to notice any of the real issues with this movie. Which in a way, simply baffles me. Its at 78% with critics on RT last I checked, which is way to high. As more reviews come in I expect it to dip down to around 50% or less where it belongs..

Its doing well in the box office because of its ties to the avengers movie, which IM3 completely ignores (except for the PTSD angle). Not even a shout out or reference to them or Shield lol.....

IM 3, 6/10, I did enjoy it, but it pisses me off that Tony was probably in an Iron Man suit for a total of no more than 5 minutes the entire duration of the movie.

Iron Man Three. When I heard Jon Faverau was out, I was a bit disappointed. I was afraid they'd hire some hack, or some nobody off the street to cash in on the Iron Man brand. They hired Shane Black. Once I heard about that, I was excited. Automatically. Did he let me down?

Nope. Not at all. I'm a character man. Story is important, but if I don't give a **** about the players, the game becomes dull and uninteresting. The plot to this movie is alright. Evil villain, wants to do ****, evil blah blah who cares. But it's the characters that make this a film worth watching.

I enjoyed seeing some actual growth in Tony Stark's character. Although, i'll admit, the PTSD stuff was a bit forced, but still, It's a minor flaw. Still. I liked seeing him out of the suit. I liked him being a human being. It made things interesting. When he gets attacked by Fireball Extremis Lady, you're going "OH ****. How is he going to get out of this one?" He doesn't have no super deux ex machina suit for him to fall back on. Those were my favorite scenes in the film.

And lets get to the dialoge and the script. It's VERY Shane Black. Hell, you could almost say Iron Man 3 takes place years after Harry and Gay Perry parted ways at the end of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. It had that smart, snappy style I wanted. But it still felt like an Iron Man film. ( I know he had a co-writer on it. But the script oozed Shane...)

Now, I read the issues on the action scenes. I enjoyed the slow build. I didn't know when the action scenes would start, or how they would even end. And they were all great all the way through. There isn't a lot of action, though. Is that a bad thing? Not at all. The film had more then enough. We got one big blown out battle at the end that capped everything. It worked. And made the film a lot more exciting then "Throw in a fight scene, throw in a car chase because there's too much talky talk". That end scene had me on the edge of my seat. Except for one single moment...the biggish one, I had no idea what was coming. (props for Rhodes being a badass, reminding me of Lethal Weapon, which Black also wrote.. Haha)

Last point. The twist. Well. I don't read comics. So I have no personal stake in the matter. But man, it made me laugh. It was so unexpected. And out there...and ballsy. So good on them. Haha.

So yes. Iron Man 3 is great. My 2nd favorite flick of the year. And I also find it odd that the only movies i've enjoyed (sans Oz) took place in Miami, Florida. Odd.

Yeah I didn't care about it either. It worked for me as a non-comic reader too. On the flip side, I did have a problem with the lack of an actual Iron Man in a film called Iron Man. To me that was weird.

CelticPredator
05-05-2013, 10:14 PM
I didn't really mind to be honest. Tony Stark is Iron Man. It doesn't matter if he's in the suit or out of the suit, he's the same dude. Just with less powers :lol. I don't think that is ever going to bug me, because with characters like Batman, Iron Man, ect...those are the other half. But not the whole.

It's not who they are. It's just another side.

Unlike a character like Deadpool, or Wolverine. Which they are everything.

He's been a writer for years. He has a very specific kind of writing style. You can see all the little touches he puts into his films.

Watch Lethal Weapon, The Last Boyscout, and maybe a bit of Last Action Hero (even though they took the script away from him and jerked it around...), and finally, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and you'll see how close Iron Man 3 feels to those films.

Yeah, I knew that. But Directors and writers are two different things. Yeah, the writer establishes (sort of) the character tone in the films, but after all said and done the director could go back and change anything in the script they want. (Most of the time).

The "green screen" before the 3D trailers was better than any of the 3D in it as well. :lol

That being said just got back from a 2D showing.

Let me start by saying if you have only seen this movie once and came out feeling conflicted. SEE IT AGAIN.

I absolutely had a blast with it this time around. Killian was a kick *** villain and Trevor was and now is the highlight of this movie for me. The action, dialogue, almost everything I really liked.

Better then the second IM, up there with the first.

The "twist" wasn't as important to me this time around because I already knew it was going to happen. Sure, I would still love to had seen the Mandarin be a real bad guy, but it didn't bother me that much this time around. I still think Marvel has something up their sleeves with this character (and Red Skull) for the next avengers flick.

Extremis doesn't bother me, didn't the first time around, I actually thought it was pretty cool to see something else then have somebody trying to steal Stark's tech.

Great movie, wish it would have taken some different choices, but I can't change that. If you just go in and roll with it, I think you'll enjoy it. Fanboy or not
