:lol

My problem with Lord of the Rings isn't talking and walking. It's just my lack of really getting invested that world. It's not interesting to me. I don't care about the one ring. I don't care about the nonsense that goes on behind the scenes. I care about Frodo making his journey because he has too. And that's about it. Everything else just doesn't work for me.

But for a TV show, I can get into the characters, slowly, and enjoy them as they progress, and that seems like a better format then a 3 hour movie about an event that doesn't grab me.

To be fair, LOTR is actually almost 11 hours of a movie when you put it together...

Spring Breakers: I don't even know. It pulls off exactly what it was trying, it was it's own perfect movie. Pretty much un-scorable.

But man, it was ****ing weird, and I liked it, I'm not sure if I was supposed to like it, but I do.

Go see it.

I've been meaning to watch this one... probably will this week, I watched 'Kids" back in the day and struck me as a very clever, a bit disturbing but quite real type of movie...

CelticPredator

Yes. But a TV show is obviously episodic. So you only get an hour per story. Which I prefer for something as big as that. It helps me absorb a giant story a lot easier.

Oblivion - 9/10

This really exceeded my expectations. Easily one of the coolest-looking films I've seen in recent years. The soundtrack by M83 is fantastic...there's a few nods to Daft Punk's eargasmic work on Tron: Legacy, Kosinski's other film, which is nice.

Fine acting from Cruise and Freeman, as always. Andrea Riseborough is a bit 'meh', but Olga Kurylenko brings some much needed heart to the film. The twists are ones which you'd normally see coming, but Oblivion does such a great job of distracting you with amazing VFX, it manages to slip in a surprise or two...well, at least for me it did.

You can really see how much of a rush-job this was...soooo many editing inconsistencies. There were only a couple of laughs...and by "laughs" I mean that thing you do when someone says something amusing, but it's not really that funny, so you just kind of smile and exhale through your nose a little bit. Yeah, that.

So, it pretty much lived up to my expectations. Although, I'm worried for today's youth, because the group of teenagers up the back thought it was hilarious :(

That's not to say animation in general doesn't have some acting to it, but you can't say that WALL-E was an actor's doing. Am I not right? That was my problem with that comment. He's undermining actors over the work of hundreds of animators.

Yeah, it's Karl Urban. The images are from Priest, which is a pretty crappy movie. But the way he looked there, plus the attitude he has in Dredd would make him (in my humble opinion) a pretty good choice for the Gunslinger, Roland, from Stephen King's The Dark Tower book series.

So last weekend I decided to create an avatar/sig combo of what could, but probably never will, be. :lol :duff

as far as unnecessary sequels go I think Scream4 is one of the most unnecessary I've seen.

Oblivion 9/10. Rarely has a movie looked more beautiful. Stunning set design, visual effects and outstanding audio. The sound track was similar to Legacy yet felt different and for me fitted the movie perfectly. The director Joseph Kosinski is fast becoming one of my favourite Directors and this is one of Tom Cruises best movies in years. While nothing original the story is effective. This movie has been a very nice surprise for me as it kinda flew under the radar with everything else coming out this year.

I watch this about 10 hours ago and thought it was a decent 6.5. It sticks pretty close to the original with just a few changes. I take it as a movie about a weakling that comes to terms that he must stand his ground at all costs. The thing that bugged me was, while Kate Bosworth is attactive looking, she in no way has a scrumptious body like they were implying in the flick. Pretty much flat. Marsden did a good job. I got all that. My thing was what did the mental Of Mice and Men story have to do with anything? I totally agree on KB. She has the body of a 13 year old. Easy on the eyes but that's about it. No southern hick would risk what they did over her. And yes Northman needs to stick to True Blood. The drunk High School coach doing what he did to the Sheriff was just completely retarded. So unbelievable at that point of the story.

Loved when Marsden told one of the Rednecks "I hope you slit your FN throat."

The Hobbit - 8.5/10

I enjoyed this one more the second time around in the comfort of my own home and without the distraction of 3D.

The Hobbit was the only 3D movie I've seen in the last 6 months where I felt it was much better without the 3D. And don't even get me started on the HFR.

Oblivion 9/10. WOW! Yes it is deritive of a lot of films that have come before but the character devolpment, story and acting raised the bar to create a truly impressive piece of science fiction cinema. And above all, it is truly jaw dropping on an IMAX screen. DAMN! With Into Darkness, Elysium and Ender's Game yet to come this year, science fiction film gets the bar set very high with Oblivion. And M83's soundtrack is a work of art all of its own, matching in sound what you see on screen note for note.

From the trailers, I didn't know exactly what to expect. I thought it was going to be more of a legal proceedings plot. But what it actually was was fantastic.

Bonus points for:

Nadine Velazquez fully out there
James Badge Dale KILLING his scene. I wish there was a deleted scene of him just being amazing for fifty minutes.

I actually thought Dale was that guy from Glee for a minute. Seriously, even on Google Images they look almost identical.

King Kong (2005 Extended Cut) - 8/10
This was the first time that I saw the Extended version of this film. It has been quite a while since I saw the theatrical version, but I think I prefer that one. This was just a tad too long and none of the extra scenes really added anything. Sure there were some cool extra dinosaur or monster bits, but that just made the survival of the ship's crew even more implausible. How many stampedes, tramplings or creature attacks can you survive?
So for that I give this version an 8, while the theatrical gets a 9.

Uh. You know, I never thought of it until Half in the Bag brought it up...but why are these movies rated R anyway? I mean....this was made for children it felt like....they recap all the events in the first 4 movies...why? Does Paul WS Anderson think we're all stupid? Even Michael Bay doesn't think we're that stupid. They recap the films every single time, for 4 movies, for no real reason.

This is the first Video Game movie. This felt like a long winded video game cutscene. I swear, they repeated the objective like 15 times. It was getting on my nerves. My favorite scene had to have been the New York simulation, where we cut to the Red Queen's POV, and her big godawful goofy CGI face takes up the screen, and says "Initiate the sequence! Kill them all!" To which Ada Wong replies "The red queen is initiating the sequence, she's going to try and kill us!" (or something to that effect). LOL. Come on. No one is that ****ing stupid.

And everything else was boring. Except for that final fight. That was pretty cool.

Too bad it meant nothing. Also...why did the whole film take place in an underground bunker? It felt so small. And like a TV show. It did go with the TV level visual effects. Oh...and Aliens ripoffs...and then it ends with dubstep. Great. Yeah, I really hated it. It's worse then the last flick, which I couldn't really understand.

But hey. They don't bother me. I just think they shouldn't be rated R. Because they sure as **** aren't made for adults.

The books range from small crime, to thriller, to conspiracy, to Jack Reacher ending up in the wrong place. They're all kinda all over the place. Which I like.

And I can't agree with that car chase. It was easily the best in a long time. Realistic, well shot, perfect pacing. Not crazy off the rails stuff. I found that refreshing. But to each their own.

Oblivion 7/10 - saw this last Friday in IMAX. Very visual and aurel flick, so you should really see it in IMAX if possible.

Not sure what anyone would think was confusing - seemed pretty straight forward to me. I did feel there was one big plot hole that annoyed me, with a few other plot nits, but overall it was decent sci-fi. It could have been at least 20 minutes shorter, maybe even 30, as there were parts that dragged as well as parts that retold information.

Can't wait for Iron Man 3 now...let's get this summer movie season rolling!

Theres a few little plot points that feel contrived and I don't think I'll ever warm upto Cameron Diaz though. She does ok but that role could have been alot more if properly cast. She manages to not f it up but she's also just sort of there, her connection to both Bill and Amsterdam and decisions should feel alot heavier.

Oh yeah. I watched Star Trek again after watching some of the OS. Got a few more references. But I prefer Star Wars Trek. It has one of the best scores in recent memory. Michael Giacchino is producing stuff that stands a part from the run of the mill Zimmer fare.

Every score he does is worth buying. Regardless of the film. Super 8's theme makes me sad. Speed Racer's theme makes me want to drive a thousand miles per hour into someone's face. Star Trek's makes me want to stand up for what's right and punch aliens in the face.

As good of a movie as Star Trek is...the score I think, is what makes it a great movie.

Iron Man 2 - 7/10. Still don't see it as a crapfest like so many others do. :lol There's a lot of great scenes. The final Whiplash/IM battle does leave something to be desired.

Iron Man 3 is the most mature and grown up of all of Marvel Studios movies. The trailers are totally misleading and do not tell the true nature of the movie. Easily the best of the trilogy. Cannot wait to see it again at the weekend. 9/10.

Iron Man 3- 8/10

Not as good as The Avengers, but on par with Iron Man 1. Was expecting a little more.

I liked the reveal of The Mandarin though. Definitely took some cues from Sherlock

Iron man 3 - 6.5/10 B Grade
A bunch of missed opportunities and relegated the armor to nothing more than a James Bond disposable gadget, but some parts held up.

Underrated! I really like this movie. I think Cruiser does a great job considering the obvious stigma when being cast.

If it's as good as iron man then it's automatically better than Avengers since IM1 > Avengers ;)

even if the film is really really bad it'll have a high rating becuase of fanboys who think the MCU can do no wrong :dunno

Not on RT. You have to be an approved critic. Now, the audience score may be up there, but those are two separate things.

I just got back from the movies, today i finally saw iron man 3, in latin america was released today!! And as i told my wife i have mix feelings about it, robert jr was great as iron man/tony stark, but the plot ,well i dont know what to do about that?? Maybe i was expecting to much and thats why i felt dissapointed at the end of it, but after this iam pretty sure that iron man 1 is and will be for a long time the best of the trilogy!!

Pain & Gain. So I ****ing loved this movie. It's the best movie Michael Bay has ever done. There's a story he wanted to tell, and by god, he tells it.

Dwayne Johnson knocks it out of the park with easily his best role.

It's pretty funny. It's not on the level of Transformers humor (although, some of the **** does go there. But it's pretty uncommon.) There's 3 "action scenes". Which consist of 2 minute long chase scenes....so, not an action flick.

While some of the stuff was pretty in your face, such as Lugo testifying in court during the beginning, talking about the American Dream with a big *** American flag hung up behind him....for the most part, it does work. It's a film about characters. And I liked that. A film about 3 dumb **** idiots who do the worst things to people for no real reason. And Bay kept to it. It stays on track the entire film. The only scene you can say moves away from the whole film is the Ken Joeng scene. But even then, it's a sorta important moment for the character.

It's well shot, as usual. Bay employs a lot of his tricks, but they aren't too overt. I loved the scene in Doorball's house. No spoilers. But it worked. Hell, the dude even showed restrain when it came to the more horrific parts. The scene with the chainsaw and Johnson was pretty realistic. You'll see what I mean.

So yeah. The only movie this year next to Spring Breakers that actually entertained me. I throughly enjoyed it. Despite it being a tad too long.

Oh, and the film is 80% talking. So. :wave :lol

Pitch Black: 8.5/10

Chronicles of Riddick: 9.5/10

I love this universe and characters and really can't wait to see the new movie when it comes out later this year.

It seems like Chronicles gets a lot of hate, all of which I don't understand. It's a great, great action flick and just complete and utter fun from beginning to end.

I actually did a Riddick marathon and started with the two games followed by the 3 movies and really enjoyed myself.

Bring on Riddick 3!!!!!!

Denzel Washington was incredible. As h always is. I tell you. Watch this movie. And if you feel bad about yourself, you won't anymore. I mean his character has some major issues. Great movie, except I didn't really like the way it ended.
