Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters - 8/10
I really liked this one! This wasn't a perfect movie, but pretty much perfect entertainment for a lazy Sunday. I didn't have the highest hopes, was doubting to go see it up to this morning, but I'm very glad I went after all! The story isn't special, but the action and humor is very entertaining. Both Hansel and Gretel were awesome characters and the two actors had great chemistry together. Famke Janssen was really good in the witch's part and you could see she had fun making this.
I also liked the fact that not all effects came from some computer. It looked like there were a lot of practical effects as well which was nice!

Overall it's something I'd definitely watch again, so I'm sure I'll pick up the Blu when it comes out!! :rock :rock :rock

I really liked Hansel and Gretel too. Thought it'd among the likes of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but it kicked-***.

Seriously didn't feel like 90 minutes.

Season 2 is even better

JACK THE GIANT SLAYER - 7.5/10

A good adventure story with alot of heart

[
PROS
Good Visuals and a Cool Final Battle Sequence
Chemistry between the characters
Princess was beautiful
ObiWan

CONS
Predictible storyline
Stanly Tucci's sidekick was awful, glad he died a terrible death in the movie

All in all worth checking out, what i took away from it was the fact you can be anything, even if your a simple farm boy, just gotta have heart.

The Last Stand - 6/10
Well, it wasn't bad.
Wasn't really good either... It was somewhere in between. It had some fun bits, some great action, but the main reason to see this movie; Arnold's first leading role is the thing that dissapoints the most IMO.

He really aged, and for the most part the role he played was centered around that. It's about an aging sheriff who wants to have a quiet old day after all. But some action scenes, especially in the end, make it all to clear that he isn't really back in shape to do major action. Also it couldn't hurt to refresh his acting skills after he's been away from movies for so long.

So in the end I'd say it's definitely entertaining, has a lot of fun bits, some nice action and an ok story.
Are you thinking of watching this in the theatre? Don't. Just wait for the Blu or DVD.

I think you summed it up pretty well. My wife's a big fan of action flicks, so we saw this and Bullet To The Head. Both are passable popcorn munchers, maybe best seen as a matinee to save a little dough. If you go in expecting Skyfall, you're going to have a *****ty afternoon and leave pissed off. If you go in expecting to laugh a little, cringe a little, but ultimately root for the action hero of yesteryear, then it's perfectly fine and fairly fun. This isn't exactly the high point of the movie season either, so it's not like you're passing up on a ton of other great options to see these.

Stoker 7/10

Enjoyed it mostly for the distinct visual style of Chan-Wook Park and the creepy chemistry of Wasikowska and Goode. Clint Mansell's score is also creepy and brilliant.

The film didn't really offer anything different for me, the plot didn't stand above any other psychological thriller imo.

I am still left confused about the shoes and the key to the drawer, I really would like to have seen them better explained :dunno

Iron Man - 8.5/10

Great origin film that took an unlikable arms dealer & changed him into a Likable character trying to make up for past sins.

Overall it was a great character-driven story about taking responsibily for ones actions that resonated well

THOR - 8/10

Odin banishing Thor was such a great scene. The ending was wonderful with the 'lovers seperated by eternity' theme.

Overall a great character driven tale at it's core about love of family, friends and companionship.

Captain America: The First Avenger 9/10

The WW2 setting was handled perfectly. Seeing Steve go from the weak puny human full of ambition and heart to a capable and daring hero was wonderful. His relationship with Peggy was great, loved the final line "i had a date"

Overall a great character-driven story about the underdog who gets a chance to show the world what he is capable of.

The Avengers - 6.8/10

I thought watching the lead-in films immediatley beforehand would make me like this more. Sadly it had the opposite affect, just highlighted all that was missing.

Action was plentiful and probably the best done by this studio, HULK was great.

Overall it was an entertaining but hollow action fest with some funny lines, lacking in motivation and characterisation that made the characters engaging and stakes of any substance or meaning.

I'd give it a 7.5 or so. I think my original was a 6.

Agreed. It is such a bizarre film. This was my first viewing and it was not at all what I was expecting. Once I was able to adjust to the strange tone and confusing narrative, I found it pretty enjoyable, but nothing special. Truthfully my above average rating is owed more to the technical aspects of the film. The music, cinematography, some of the editing, and most of the camera work are all very creative and engaging. The film looked and sounded great, even when I wasn't sure what exactly was going on.

Okay to be fair I liked the first half of Moonrise Kingdom, but then towards the end it stopped making sense. Kinda felt like the writer didn't know where to go with the story or something, the kid/lighting scene was kinda dumb. the church scene didn't make much sense.

Oz Vs The Army of Darkness

Yeah, I really liked this movie. It's not perfect. But it's not flawed either...if that makes sense. I'll have to digest it a bit...but I ****ing love the Raiminess all around the thing. It was like an Army of Darkness, but for kids, and not quite as funny. But still good.

Very sweet. A bit schmultzy...but eh. It didn't feel TOO forced. Although, some of it did. But that's just what has to be with kids films. Still. I never found myself going "Oh jesus christ" like Alice in Wonderland.

What a horrible piece of **** that was.

Oz 8/10. Much better than jack the giant slayer, and a good lead into the classic. I enjoyed everything, except the wicked witch of the west make up. It really distracted me every time I saw it - the face off contestants could have done much better.

But the acting was great especially Franco, and it was an excellent use of 3d. This is one of those rare films that you really do need to see in 3d, preferably IMAX.

Very hard for me to choose between the two actually.
I grew up with the theatrical cut but after being a fan for so long and finally seeing those extra scenes added to the movie I enjoyed it even more, the added scenes slow the movie down a little but if you're a fan they map out Leon and Matilda's relationship even more , both the awkward and heartwarming side of it. I've not watched the theatrical for quite some time , I always go with the extended now so I guess that answers the question really.

Primal Fear. 9/10. I don't like Richard Gere. I'm an attorney ... so I generally don't like lawyer/courtroom movies (with a few exceptions). But, Ed Norton is great enough in this to overcome both. One of the truly great, and underrated, movie psychos.

The Dukes of Hazzard. 7/10. As good as it could've been. Casting was surprisingly good. I need to get a rebel flag painted on top of an orange Dodge Challenger.

Cocaine Cowboys. 7.5/10. Not-too-bad documentary about the Miami Cocaine Wars in the 70s and 80s. I'd heard of Griselda Blanco before ... but the whole story of the Godmother was more gruesome than I remembered.

Transformers Dark of the Moon (Ending) - 4/10

Caught the ending of this. Had copious amounts of slow motion walking, pretty people, a model (actress?) walking without realizing there's explosions going on directly behind her. Military baddass mofos shouting and swearing. Was pretty easy to recognized the villain as he was the one making hammy evil speeches to himself as there was no one around. Robot action was pretty good but kept being interprupted by humans. Some of the robots were cringeworthy, there was a Jonny-5 guy with an Einstein looking bot, an "old robot" with grey hair and an english accent and a giant tapeworm looking one :lol :cuckoo:

And then Optimus allowed the destruction of his own planet and race :slap

It was a big mistake replacing Rachel McAdams with Noomi Rapace in Sherlock Holmes: GoS. Irene Adler was a much better leading lady.

Wreck it Ralph - 9/10 - As an 80's arcade nut I loved this movie. I feel sorry for people who need to pause and look for easter eggs because this movie will eat your life.

Stardust - 7/10 - Cute movie and my young girls really liked it. Another Niel Gaiman modern fairy tale. It had a bit of Princess Bride humor.

Not sure why this got such great reviews, wasn't at all impressed. The opening sequence was great, the rest was just meh. Actually, no - not a good post.

Life of Pi is NOT a religious movie, nor was it 'preachy'. I personally am very anti-religion, but that doesn't mean I shut my brain off when someone brings up something spiritual. There's a huge difference.

The movie goes out of it's way to set itself up outside religion right from the start, through Pi's acceptance of all religion as having some piece of spiritual truth. His father believes you must believe in one, or you don't believe in anything. Pi disagrees.

How you take his story, and which version you believe is true, is the whole value of the movie. It says a tremendous amount about you, who you are and how you look at life overall, and is well worth spending more than 10 seconds examining. What you believe is true is much less interesting than why - it's an excellent opportunity for a little self awareness, something far too many people lack.

Yes, this concept is couched in spirituality, but that's not religion.

The whole movie is about the challenge of telling a story that will make someone believe in god. It's very religious. Only at the end, when

Pi is telling both stories, you are given the choice between self determination and faith. Which is way too rushed to even consider.

It's an over the top, religious allegory that fails on almost every level that it tries to be.

Michael Crawford
03-18-2013, 08:15 AM
God does not equal religion. If you believe it does, then I can see why you'd write off the film as preachy and religious.

This is also very much a story about faith, and not just faith in a God, but faith in anything, and what that means. In fact, I'd say that this movie has nothing to do with anything external (God, religion), and everything to do with things that are purely internal (faith, spirituality).

I find it interesting when people say the film is trying to get anyone to believe in God - you could easily take away from this film that the only reason anyone believes in God is not because he is 'real', but as a way to survive the harsh, crushing reality of life.

I was very bothered by the film during the first 30 minutes, because I did think it was going to turn into nothing but religious propoganda. But it didn't - there's more here than that, and I enjoyed it the more I spent time thinking about it. I've only seen it once, but I may pick it up to watch again and see how it plays on a second viewing. It's the type of film that could go either way, depending on how well the begininng supports the end.

Jeez if you like life of Pee great, however why do people feel the need to attack others that don't consider it the best movie of the year or that simply do not like it. Its not that we lack the intellectual capacity to understand the films themes and messages. My goodness its just a movie, and liking it does not put you in some higher place then those that dont. Its not about "getting it".

The movie for me got boring, sure it was a novelty at first but after the 5th or 6th time seeing him jump out of the boat to avoid the cat I was done. The message is powerful and the film has a lot of good things to say it just what I watched became stale and boring for me. If

For those that loved it, I am happy for you. Nobody is trying to convince you not to like it or imply u are stupid for liking it. Which is what some people are doing here.

A favorite of mine from childhood. I hadn't seen this in several years, and I was surprised at just how well it has aged. This is actually a pretty clever and entertaining film. I was excited too ted, okay...maybe i was being a bit harsh in giving it 2.5 but i dont know about anyone else but its really hard to not see Elijiah Wood as anything but Frodo! He's been type cast since the trilogy it kind of hinders him in this movie. Its actually filmed in a kind of POV kinda way so you dont really get to see him much...:(
