Meh, agree to disagree then.

If you guys haven't watched Interview with the Vampire in a while you should watch it again and see if your opinions remain the same. Was really disappointed with it.

I've only seen a handful of Brad Pitt's movies, and I'm not saying he's a bad actor, but his acting simply doesn't match his status IMO.

I think I watch that almost every year. Strangely enough its one film I've watched with the other half about 3 or 4 times. Only Twilight equals that (not my choice)

I really enjoyed that movie as well.

Yeah, it's one of those that you don't watch for quite a while and forget how great it is.

I'll never understand why Brad Pitt is so popular. Out of all the movies I've seen him in, Fight Club is the only one where I thought he did a great job. He was alright in Se7en, subpar in Inglourious Basterds, subpar in Interview with the Vampire, etc..

Pitt is one of my favorite actors. He's great in everything.

He's great in Seven, Meet Joe Black, Fight Club, Snatch, Troy, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, Babel, Jesse James, Burn After Reading, Inglorious Basterds, Tree of Life, Moneyball and Killing Them Softly.

All great flicks, Pitt being the best part.

Zero Dark Thirty: 9/10

Would have came close a 9.5 or 10 but I feel some stuff could have been trimmed down.

Atonement - 7/10

Saw this once before in the cinema, not the kind of film I like to see in the cinema, probably wasn't my choice at the time, so out of spite or something I didn't allow myself to appreciate it in any way really. For some reason I decided to watch it tonight. Good film, albeit with an utterly depressing ending.

I'm with Lar'ja Thwei when it comes to Interview with a Vampire.

Last time it was on tv, I couldn't even watch the whole thing. Really don't care for Cruise's or Pitt's performance in it...though I do like both of them in other roles they have done. I think part of the problem is that the movie was just not quite what I had pictured in my head since I had read the book first. Pitt's performance was just so boring to me and I never liked Cruise as Lestat..I don't care if Anne Rice liked him or not. :lol

I'd probably give it a 6.5/10 today.

I don't know, there are worst vampire movies out there (besides Twilight of course) like I said Queen of the Damned is one sucky movie, that really does suck. Just like Dracula 2000 is a suckfest. John Carpenter's Vampires was meh. Come to think of it there are a lot of bad vampire flicks out there, but I don't think Interview is one of them. I don't think is boring either.

Something interesting about Brad Pitt and this movie:

In an article released in September 2011, Brad Pitt revealed that he had a miserable experience while making this film.
He complained of discomfort while wearing his costumes and colored contacts and being forced to play second fiddle to Tom Cruise, both on screen and off.
He said at one point he called his friend and producer David Geffen and begged him for a way out. Learning that there was no way, he toughed it out for the remaining months.

Boring is the exact word I would use to describe the movie. Painfully boring.

Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise just weren't the right actors for the roles either imo. I've always thought Brad Pitt was a decent actor and I've liked him for the most part and I can't stand Tom Cruise as a person or actor, but I think I even preferred Tom Cruise's performance in this over Brad Pitt's.

IMO, Brad Pitt seemed so uninterested/lazy in his role whereas Tom Cruise let out his true loony scientology self and exaggerated every damn line. :lol

I definitely agree that there are worse vampire movies out there though.

Silver Linings Playbook

A romantic comedy about the socially awkward - perfect for me :) The script makes good use of this unusual idea for a rom-com, with some great scenes and dialogues. Jennifer Lawerence is perfect as always, and Bradley Cooper once again shows that he is unfairly overlooked as a leading man. There are also some really great, disfunctional family relations encapsulated by DeNiro's character. It's been quite a while since last I watch a romantic movie that would make my cinical mind think "I would love to live through something like this".

I don't mind movies like that, sometimes they are more interesting than action packed movies because of their story.

But Zodiac was just really dull for me, I couldn't get into it
I guess the same reason I didn't like Public Enemies. Because the History Channel shows on Zodiac and other serial killers is much more interesting I guess? I had the same problem with both, I knew the story of Zodiac and Public enemies and had seen it on HC so the movies didn't have as much of an impact. While I'm a huge horror fan and enjoy well done gore, I have to say that it seemed disjointed at parts (and not because it was various short stories). The Last Stand - 6/10 - Maybe less. Poor action flick. Only reason to see it is Arnold. Otherise drop it down 2 points.

Nude for Satan - 7/10 - With a title like that, who wouldn't want to see this? Decent horror flick with, of course, some nice looking chick naked, a lot. Nude for Satan. It's just fun to say.

Battle Beyond the Stars - 7/10 - A fun space version of Seven Samurai. It has Man From Uncle and Hannibal Smith lead by John Boy,

The Theatre Bizarre - 5/10 - Horror anthology of mostly junk, but the "Wet Dreams" and "The Accident" segment are pretty good.

Stake Land - 4/10 - Dull zombie vampires flick.

Lips of Blood - 6/10 - More 70's vampire horror with nice nakedness.

Justice League: Doom - 8/10 - Pretty good toon. I think it could translate well into a later Justice League sequel.

Just watched

Death Race 3: Inferno on Netflix.

Initially I wasn't expecting much. Especially after the recycled feel of DR2 which seemed to reuse or say "use" some footage from the 1st film that just didn't make the cut the first go-around on Terminal Island.
Then I saw the trailer for DR3: Inferno and was impressed even less.

So I gave it a chance and I was pleasantly surprised. The change of venue in the movie definitely gives it some freshness it needed. There is also a really twisty storyline that is easy to follow but will have you saying, "Huh?" at the same time. The main thing about this is it is a FUN movie. Action...explosions...and hot chicks abound. The standout of this movie is all the practical car stunts that were performed. (can't stand CGI replacement with cars) The only thing the movie toned down on was the gore factor. Even the Unrated version seemed to be quite tame in that respect.
I'd give it a 7/10, but i'm a sucker for a "car movie".

Django Unchained - 7.5/10
It was a solid film, but nothing outstanding. And that's kinda what I hoped it would be.
The ingredients were there, the recepy just didn't seem right. We got a good story, good actors, the music, the dialogue... It just didn't work the way it was meant to be. I also think there aren't many scenes (if any) that will become classics like some scenes from Tarantino's other films. I thought is was about half an hour too long and fairly predictable.

By no means is it a bad movie, just not what I had expected and I for one just know he can do better than this.

So for me Inglourious Basterds remains to be his masterpiece.

****ing fun movie. Nothing more. Nothing less. If you're expecting a great film, you won't find it here. It's almost generic, but it's saved by great direction, and AHNULD. Stylisticly very cool looking. A lot of really cool camera work. AND REAL BLOOD SQUIBS! People's heads are getting blown apart in this, and it's fantastic!

But if you are more interested in having a good story, with well developed characters...then don't bother. It's a classic Arnold film all the way. You're there for HIM. And he does deliver. Good on him.

Did you watch through the credits?

The wolves were more of a mental threat than a physical one. It was the fear of death, and what may not be after it. More of a metaphor really.

It struck me as a very regional movie, with very regional humor. No Country, which was great, was also pretty regional. But, I'm a native Texan, and married to a girl from Midland, so No Country is set in a region I easily understand. Fargo almost seemed foreign in that respect.

I think the power of this film lies in the combination of a lot of factors; You got a good story, although perhaps not the most original. But the characters that form this story are in fact very original. I think they are all great. You've got your typical roles, the good guys and the bad guys, but it's the quirkiness in all of them that makes them great;

Marge Gunderson; the pregnant heroine of the story.
Jerry Lundegaard; the quirky maybe even clumsy carsalesman with some of the best quotes; "Ya darn tootin'!"
Gaear Grimsrud; the intimidating, silent kidnapper who is dangerous and somewhat of a loose cannon, but rather seems to want to watch TV all day.
Carl Showalter; He's probably one of the more conventional characters, but no less interesting. He's the funny looking guy who some may look upon as easy to manipulate and weak; but he's dangerous when it comes to it.

Add to that a great number of funny side-characters like Norm Gunderson, Mike Yanagita (and the best one) Mr. Mohra, and you get a very interesting and new take on a good story, making it great.

There is also the setting. I love the desolation of this winter-wonder-land in which the story is set. When we get snow and I look out on the snow covered fields and meadows; I always play this tune in my head:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4NCC0dUXks

This music btw is also amazing IMO, and it fits the story perfectly.

So this is why I love Fargo as much as I do. It's just a quirky film, that differentiates itself from others through some highly original and interesting characters, a great setting and an amazing soundtrack. :)

I'm from the Netherlands, never been to Fargo or the US for that matter, but for some reason I can relate to the whole region and setting. Perhaps it's the more rural aspect.

I think Entity answered it pretty well. My reason would be an amazing score (damn original) beautiful photography and the power of great suspense through story writing. People tend to brag about a film being original but most films aren't close to that. This film was about as clean and creative as they come. Yeah the story leaves you on a low but I appreciate movies for how they're made. Maybe more the little things.

That and I live in a ****ing cold climate so I could relate :lol

I think the power of this film lies in the combination of a lot of factors; You got a good story, although perhaps not the most original. But the characters that form this story are in fact very original. I think they are all great. You've got your typical roles, the good guys and the bad guys, but it's the quirkiness in all of them that makes them great;

I'm from North Dakota. And I have always wondered if they were trying to be serious with the depiction of the characters in that film or if it was supposed to be a comedy that failed.

I have accepted that it is a comedy that failed.:)

Gangster Squad - 6.5 out of 10

Great cast, great production value/sets, wardrobe, and lighting. Amazing filming. Unfortunately the script and writing/dialogue takes it down a few notches from being the great gangster film to a good one.

Last night I watched a blu-ray double feature of:

The Empire Strikes Back (Harmy 1980 version)

and

Aliens

Both 10/10 movies IMO. They were my absolute 1 and 2 favorite films all the way until the LOTR. It was really nice to watch them both back to back as I did *so* many times in the 90's. Even after the LOTR, Avatar, TDK trilogy and Marvel Phase I they are still such great, great films.

I really wanted to like this, but the dull essence of the movie, the "LOL WUT?" moments and the severely stretched out scenes really hurt it.

The whole baby sequence..... it's so bad you almost want to fast forward through it.

Oh man I love that film!!! Connery is a beast in it!

It's a 9/10 film for me :)

:dunno the 'baby sequence' was one of the most memorable scenes.

I'd have given a higher score. Think I did in fact.

The baby/train station shoot out was an homage to the Russian 1925 film Battleship Potemkin, which I think was an inspired idea.

Also a great score from Ennio Morricone.

I'd agree. I'd probably say "not exactly a good Star Trek movie, but a good movie in general."

The plot is ridiculous, and the preachy "save the whales" nonsense would be insufferable if not for the brilliant character interaction. Not the movie I reach for if I'm in the mood for good Star Trek -- it almost comes off like a sitcom with Star Trek characters -- but, a solid entry that ended up much better than it probably should've given the story.

Star Trek: Nemesis 6/10 Watched it for Tom Hardy....it was ok...I thought Hardy did well though.

Leviathan 6.5/10 Not a bad scifi flick - some parts where a bit cheesy and I didn't care much for how it ended.

The Rig 4.5/10 A low budget scifi mess. Bad acting and just some really stupid moments. I watched this because William Forsythe was in it. I loved him in The Devil's Rejects. He's such a crazy, bizarre actor...sadly he died off pretty quickly in this movie.

The original is called Let the Right One In. That is why I am guessing it's not coming up for you. I saw that version first, and I quite liked it. But then I saw Let Me In and it blew it away. I just loved the atmosphere, the music, the cinematography and that I really cared for both of the kids in it. The original I could not relate to them and not just because it was Dutch, but the boy annoyed the crap out of me. It's worth it to check it, I own both on Blu.
