Blu Ray is a no brainer, dev. At the very least, when playing DVD's it upgrades the resolution automatically. As for BD's themselves, aside from a crisper picture the sound is phenomenal.

My sound system is a hand-me-down, probably couldn't even take advantage of the superior sound. Yeah its Dolby Digital 5.1 amp, I have 3 front speakers but no surround speakers. The room is too small to space them apart appropriately. Y'know my movie watching experience isn't a big priority for me right now. Seeing the films is enough for me over and above the quality of the experience.

Nnnope. I know the quality is better, I have seen blu-ray in action. But not so much better that I can no longer tolerate little ol' DVD. I don't think the difference is as big as between VHS and DVD for example.

Depending on the size of your display, the difference can be like VHS to DVD.

TDK and TDKR are DEFINITELY a VHS to DVD equivalent step up in quality. No doubt about it. Makes a massive difference to the experience for me.

Most definitely

It really isn't. :D

DVD sucks. Blu Ray is better in every possible way. Not just in picture, but in special features. You can have so much more. And Blu Rays get all the goodies.

I concur

It depends on the sound system you have. I don't have that problem. If you have a cheap system that you have to crank up in the firt place to hear the dialogue, then ya you'll get blasted by the action.

that was good too. I just don't like the hate 30 days of night gets. Dang - I think I ranked it around 7.5 or an 8 which for me is pretty high for a horror movie.

I'm striking out with all my suggestions. :( :lolI enjoyed it. It was scary. Better than I expected, and I am trying to rate more accurately. If 5/10 is simply an average film, and 10/10 is practically flawless...I think a point and a half above average sounds about right. Maybe 7/10.

I kinda felt that the vampire reveal was too quick. I wish it had been a bit more subtle, and they weren't shown as much. At least in the beginning.
One thing I hate is when vampires are changed too much from what they're supposed to be. I don't like the more animal-like design with a full set of fanged teeth. The screeching, goofy "eek nok" language..god those sounds were ridiculous. Really took me out of the movie. It seemed like they were making that up on the spot. That being said I'm not sure the terror factor would have been as prominent if the vampires weren't as mindless/animalistic. In that case I would have preferred it if they just went with a different monster.

Like I said though, I enjoyed the movie. I think it was definitely one of the better horror films in the past decade.

You guys tricked me too. Ben Foster had an entire what, three minutes of screentime? :lol He was very convincing as Mr. weird loner crazy guy though. I would have liked to see what his relationship with the vampires was.

Daybreakers is one of the better vamp movies in recent, it's not epic, but it's pretty good.I really wanted to see that but totally forgot about it. Added to the list. It's the one where humans are near extinction and vampires are living on synthetic blood? I thought that sounded interesting.

30 Days and Day breakers are both fantastic vampire films. 30 Days being my favorite because of the animalistic nature of them and the fact that they had a language. Great, I was hoping it would be something like that. Added to the list.

did you even watch that interview yourself? Vampires have become "Count Chocula" seriously, Twilight pretty much was the breaking point.

And, Dracula, well, those movies have been done to death. Movies with gentlemen vampires like Dracula is all there is out there. Seriously you have like 300 movies to choose from (probably more) 30 days is pretty much one of its kind, there are not that many movies with really scary freaky vampires in that alone 30 days completely succeeded. If anything the one thing they did right is show vampires as scary monsters that will kill you and not seduce you!

I would not have liked demons because it would not explain why they need blood or the darkness. If they made them demons then people would totally complain about being too much like vampires.

I mean Dracula was a story written by Bram Stoker. But legends about demonic vampires like the ones in 30 Days of night do exist. So they are not even that far fetched.
about the teeth, they look like that in the comic. They look really weird in the comic so I think that's what they were trying to go for.

I rather have a vampire with a mouth full of fangs, than no fangs at all :slap:lol

I rather have a vampire with a mouth full of fangs, than no fangs at all :slap:lolAnd like I said, it's so generic and boring. There are far more generic monster movies than true vampire movies. I don't want garbage like Twilight, nor do I want the more mindless full-fanged and clawed "vampires" with black demon eyes. They had no presence. They were just scary monsters killing in the dark.

They need to be intimidating and terrifying, but with that mysterious and somewhat grim charisma. ie Dracula.

Not pretty teenage boys that sparkle in the sunlight, and not deformed, black-eyed demons that run around shrieking like animals. Those are the two extremes. Well, Twilight is far more extreme and ridiculous, but still.

I did like the movie though (as I have said). It was pretty good, I might buy it later on.

Now,

Blade - 7/10

Really enjoyed the first half, but then the whole vampire resurrection/possession plot got kind of annoying. The exploding vampires and winged skeletons felt very scooby-dooish and unnecessary.

Daybreakers - 7.5/10

This was a lot better than I expected. Really enjoyed it. Kept my interest throughout the entire movie.

The Hobbit - 8.5/10

Not as good as I was expecting but still a great movie.

Ted 6/10 - not nearly as funny as I'd hoped. There's a few classic moments, and Mila is as hot as always, but I was disappointed overall.

Life of Pi 9/10 - I enjoyed this much, much more than I expected. It's so rare to get a solid film with a thoughtful plot, intended to make you think. I'm not a religious man, but I thought the way they handled faith vs rationale thought was excellent. And to top it off, it's absolutely beautiful visually.

The Watch: 6.5/10

Some funny moments, but other than that a stupid comedy.

for me The Watch was such a waste of time. I really hate the type of humor that Ben Stiller does a lot lately and that is where they will make a joke, and it is funny, but then they will stretch that joke until it just becomes awkward and dull. He does that so much, either that or he starts explaining the joke :thud:
But I have to say the Alien Creature
was amazing

Men in Black 3: 7.5/10
I really enjoyed it. It was fun and breezy and entertaining. But boy did TLJ look old! I don't think he's got another one of these in him.

A couple of things that bothered me:

I didn't like the retcon of K supposedly having a thing for O and vice-versa. Or the source of his dour demeanor. In the first one, the whole basis of his character is that he had a girlfriend that he was going to see before he got sidetracked by the alien encounter which led him to be a founding member of the MIB team. He also carried a torch all those years, which made his character that much more profound and interesting. So are we to believe that he had loved the one girl from his civilian past all those years, while at the same time had his eye on O (not that I would blame him)?

Also, the whole prophecy that Griffin said, "in death there must always be death" or something like that, implying that someone had to die in the confrontation between K and Boris. I assume that originally, since Boris lost his arm and K went on living, that the death was J's father. Then in the alternate reality, since K died and Boris lived, J's father potentially lived. And in the final reality, since K killed Boris, J's father SHOULD have lived. And I think that scenario would have worked nicely as well. So not only did K survive, but J would have had a father growing up and K would possibly be a happier guy.

But other than those holes and inconsistencies, it was thoroughly enjoyable. Close to the first one, which I would rate 8/10.

I skipped #2, but am now tempted to watch it even though everything I've read says that #2 was terrible and #3 blows it out of the water.

It's better each time i watch which is strange, i still didn't like the Uhura/Spock thing, hated Kirk as a kid, felt the 'i'm leaving the ship to go to my death, you are now Captain' was stupid along with the other fast track methods to get the classic crew in command.

The third act kinda stretched on, their were convenient plot holes like why they have to use cadets to rescue Vulcan instead of the fleet, where is the fleet to to defend Earth against the Narada ect...

I've likened to Pine's Kirk, i thought he was a douchebag the first two times i watched it, now i'm seeing him more as an overly confident character. I still have doubts on how they can make him a fitting commander, he seems good in a crisis situation but not other times.

I was bored. Amazing CGI yes but it bored me and I didn't like how Tintin was played out. Didn't feel a connection to the characters, except Snowy maybe. Only one I liked.

Agree. I love Spielberg for the most part, but this one didn't do it for me.

Back To The Future part III, was on yesterday I watched it but it is my least favourite of the triology. I love part 1 & 2. Idk the whole wild west, love intrest for Doc didn't do it for me. Michael J Fox was pure class though as Clint Eastwood. :rotfl:rotfl

I watched Predators again the other night.

Lots of great moments - all the Predator scenes are excellent. The hounds were cool - as was the falcon in flight mode.
The fight between Falconer & Kanzo was excellent too.

The negatives? Royce for starters.. Jeez he annoyed the living **** out of me! :lol
That stupid voice of his, I just didn't buy Brody as the tough military guy.

The other negatives were all the blatant copying of the first film. The location was fine, but the dialogue in parts was horrendous. The stand off between him & Beserker was too close to the 87 film. I get he was using Dutch's mud idea, but still.. "I'm here, kill me now!".. :monkey4

The ending scene was rubbish too. :lol

Anyway, it's still a cool flick - 6.5 / 10.

Django Unchained - 9.5 / 10

First and foremost the acting in this film is absolutely top notch. Great cast and I can not decide who was my favorite from the film. With that said this one paid homage to the old spaghetti western's with a kind of new twist by QT. Tons of good ol' gore and Jamie Fox playing a bad ass bounty hunter was just icing on the cake. I found myself at times with chills and smiling from ear to ear. Absolutely loved this movie and by far one of the best I have seen in a while. It is very gritty and is a no holds bared look at slavery. I only knocked off .5 because of the length of the film and it being slow in a few area's. I just feel that some parts of the film could have been left out....IMHO.

Django - 8 out of 10

Not really what I was expecting but it's a solid film. For someone as in love with Leone I was a bit surprised by the lack of influence Tarantino exhibited now that he was finally getting to do his western. This is really more of a blaxploitation film wrapped in the setting of a western landscape. In parts some of the camera work is the best Tarantino has put on screen, only in parts though. The homages were cool but I would have loved to see him flex his technical and historical muscle a little more. Overall it's a good movie though.

I agree with this.

Just didn't care for that middle section. If it was about 15 minutes shorter, it would've been great.

He did put in some incredibly powerful scenes. And showed a lot more restraint then I was led to believe. Which worked far better then actually showing those events.

Camera work was really good. He seems to up his game in every film. And I am a lover of zooms. So it's always nice to see some people still using them. :lol
