I'm working on getting some better pictures taken, but here are a few right out of the box. The only thing I'm not happy with is how his shirt collar seems so open. I'm not sure there's any way to futz it to look better. Although I may use some glue dots or something to force it down a bit more, it will still be pretty "wide."

The outer sleeve:

And the figure itself:

Here are a few more. I've made the collar a bit better, but the problem is that his neck appears to be a bit too big for the collar to come together as it should.

I love this figure. I do agree however that it is a little weak, but still a nice figure. I'll be getting mine in a few weeks. I'm getting batman (2nd suit) first though because I think it's a nicer figure and has better likeness than the joker.

I think that this figure does need to be put in a great pose to really bring out the likeness. Just standing up straight he looks a little underwhelming. I think when displayed his head needs to be chin down to help make him look more sinister. Like the pics Krayt posted...

The problem isn't the tie. You can tighten it (and I have), but the collar is already as tight as it will get around the neck and still looks loose.

Would have posted this in the other thread but it's closed now.

Good news! I got a tracking number for The Joker (my first HT figure).

The Bad news is it will cost me a bit more. I had made some shipping arrangements with the place i'm getting it from (Studio Sunny) and last night i send them a mail asking if it was still ok and some other guy (i think) answered saying they couldnt do it. The guy had a kinda douschebag attitude in his reply. Sucks but it's still cheaper then it's costing now. Just not sure if i should give them a positive or neutral feedback? This is my first ebay purchase and i think it could have been better.

My nabours company get's production samples shipped from HK every week and he said if i had anything coming from HK to let him know. I could have it shipped to his company using there UPS account. The item would be labeled as a sample with a value of $10 and i wouldnt have to pay customs. At first he said ok, then last night he (or someone else) said no way and gave me a tracking number. Not sure why he couldnt. I didnt get a real explenation. No matter, i'm getting the figure. Just don't think i'll deal with them again.

The seller is under no obligation to ship to another address other than the Paypal address the buyer is using. What the seller did wrong though was agree to something they were uncomfortable with doing in the end. They should of said no straight up, but this may be due to a language barrier...who knows

Yeah, I've bought and sold tons on ebay and if you are used to shipping standard ways ... meaning USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. ... anything different than that will eventually lead to problems on one end or the other. Could have been language/communication issues as well. Either way, I would suggest you leave positive feedback once you get your figure and you're happy with it. That's what you so-called 'contracted' to buy and they got it to you. If there's problems of some kind, work with the seller to see if you can work it out.

Just my two cents.

I've seen pix of the Joker on the toy-world forums, and the users Joker's there do not seem to have such a collar issue, but I dunno.

When I get mine I'll let you know, since I have a sewing machine and can sew a bit. If I have a problem with the collar on my Joker I will see if I can fix it and report back :)

07-25-2008, 09:48 AM
We'll have to wait until other people get theirs in to see if it's a problem just with my figure (although I find that a little hard to believe). I took the tie completely off and tried to bring the two parts of the collar together with my fingers, and they just won't get any closer than what you see in the picture above. There isn't enough material there.

Still, it's not that big of a deal. It's a great looking figure.

The problem isn't the tie. You can tighten it (and I have), but the collar is already as tight as it will get around the neck and still looks loose.

If the collar is too small to close, there's not much you can do besides soak it and pull/stretch at it. When it dries it may be just a tad longer. Maybe just enough.

If I can chime in, too. You could also tie a bit of wire around collar to tighten it as well. I've done this a few times and it works great and will hide well under the collar and tie. The tie might not be strong enough by itself. I use the kind of wire for hanging pictures, etc. It usually has a plastic coating to keep it from rusting and I've used it to tighten pants, collars, etc.

Even with the collar 'as is' this is still a genius figure. Cannot believe how fast they cranked these out. The week after the movie is released?? Bravo, Hot Toys!

I was able to get it to look like this with some glue dots under the collar to hold them in place. However, you may be able to see that behind the tie, his neck still shows through.

It's all guesswork of course, but the prices of similar figures like those in the Hot Toys Pirates of the Caribbean line distributed by Sideshow ranged from $125 to $150. In my case, the Joker was $138.88 before shipping (and the live.com rebate cashback discount) so I don't expect the DC Direct distribution to result in a significant savings, given the amount of time you'd have to wait. Of course if you're paying more for these figures, like the $175+ that I've seen, then it would be a different story.

Well, I remember various things having joker faces on them in the movie. I don't recall if any money had it. But one of the promotional things they did leading up to the movie was to distribute money with joker faces painted on them. Instead of "In God We Trust" they say "Why So Serious?"

The tailoring is outstanding, barring the collar issue. But to me, this figure is already the best dressed 12" I've ever seen, with Clubber Lang south side edition as a close 2nd. I'm talking "regular" cloths here, not fancy super hero or historical drag.

Not really. He had one of his feet off in the package, but that popped right back on. The only very minor thing is that the "leg warmer" socks can get out of place more easily than normal socks (going up the leg and leaving a gap at the bottom, for example). Quality-wise I'd say it's a home run.

When you consider the amazingly well tailored, detailed intricate outfit, there is a lot to this fig. The Coat alone is a masterpiece, not to mention all the other parts.

It really is a tour de force Figure, just needs a tweak repaint and it's NUTZ.

What? That's horrible - do you mean that his head can't even move from left to right? No up and down? It's just stuck straight ahead?

Ah - so it's more like a sideshow head - I assume there's a piece that gives it some mobility at the bottom there?

What's the advantage of doing it that way vs the way they did Superman's head?

lerath666
07-26-2008, 06:31 AM
This way gives a more realistic looking neckline. The superman style neck ( which I prefer) Gives a less realistic looking neckline, but a greater range of posibility, and more lifelike poses.

Don't know why on earth HT used this type for The Joker, a piece that just cries out for head and neck movement.

johnnyhaggis
07-26-2008, 06:41 AM
Maybe it'd interfere with the necktie? It can't be because of the look as the necktie and collar would hide the neck line vs the superman neck joint which is totally visible.

In any case articulation is the most important to me.

Anyone else find it odd, that the Joker comes with cash? Especially knowing how he feels about money.

First of all, it's cool to have them. Second, the fact that they're "jokerized" plays into that aspect of the character from the film.

The cash is apart of the Viral Marketing campaign that started at SDCC last year, so even though it isn't in the film, it is still cool.

And from the 3rd picture that Krayt posted, it looks like the Joker cards are pretty thick cardboard? They look like one of those token/counters from my DOOM boardgame. Thick, high quality cardboard! :rock

v. important, but i can see why they went this route, to give the paint on the neck a smoother transition into the skin, a la the movie. im sure you can turn the head around left and right, just not up and down and all around like with a ball joint.

The stand goes between the figure's legs and gently supports it that way, rather than clamping around the waist. I prefer the new style, since it doesn't interfere with the outfits at all.

clockwork463
07-26-2008, 06:01 PM
I thought it was supposed to be used like that but , wtf , that doesn't help it stand at all...and Great figure I don't know how people can compare it to the DC version , the Price might be ridiculous but don't try to lie to yourself and say the DC version is better.

icruise
07-26-2008, 06:04 PM
It actually does help them stand, although maybe not as securely as one around the waist. But another advantage of the new stand is that you can just lift the figure off of the stand, without having to struggle to get the prongs out from around their waist.

CelticPredator

Just darker. Where ever the "shadowed make-up" is, just make it blacker, mabye some fade twords the end of it....like this.

MaulFan

I think the areas you have black are fine, but the transition of black to white should probably be rougher. I think that's the biggest flaw of the HT paint apps, they fade the black from his eyes to his cheeks, but the film makeup was always bold black and the contrast was strong where it went from black to white.

The DC Hairline is completely wrong, it's all matted down, not screen accurate, but the face was an actual Heath scan so it looks more like him.

Les redid the DC hair sculpt and his Joker head looks the best I've seen so far.

But, the HT Joker with a tweak repaint is the most menacing I've seen and makes a great TDK Joker. I'd like to see pics of a Les Head on HT Joker.

Many are doing this.. and I might too unless I use the Les head for my Nurse Joker.

MaulFan

There are tons of them on ebay but none of them are very good, even a rooted hair Joker. Then there's Josh (DA) Joker head too.

I think Yulli's sculpt is there, just needs some tweaking, that's all. She hasn't done a bad head yet. I have her Brando Jor El and it's a Masterpiece.

Well, if you want to be technical.

DCD Sculpt
Hot Toys Sculpt
Medicom Sculpt
Les Walker Reworked DCD Sculpt
DarkArtist Regular Sculpt
DarkArtist Bank Robbery Sculpt
Sovereign Studios Joker

I don't know his name, but someone is offering up 2 Joker sculpts now, they haven't been made yet but are slated and taking orders. In some ways, I think Joker could end up being overdone in the end. Josh's work was great because it was the first and really took a lot to make it happen. Les' is great because it took something that could have been great and wasn't and made it great. Now, I think the hype of the movie is going to lead to lots of people making various heads, and it'll be cool to see various interpretations, but it could end up like a radio station playing a new hit too much, you hear it so many times in a short span and you get sick of it. I'm keeping my focus to this HT figure which I'm buying, Les' head, which I'm buying, and Josh's because he's my friend and I support his work, all these other new heads being done, I'm not going to even check them out, I don't want to become sick of seeing Ledger Joker.

I fell asleep at the wheel as well. I found mine today on ebay for $148 + shipping. A bit more than I would have liked to pay but not too bad considering how late I'm ordering and how popular this figure is.

I've got to think there is going to be another version but the detail and sculpt was too good to resist.

Was it in stock?

So what color is the coat's inner lining? Burnt orange or red?

I've seen it IN PERSON, and the answer is

BURNT ORANGE.

Arclight, opening day.

spoongirl posted a bunch of pics somewhere but they looked reddish. I went and stuck my face against the glass case 12" away from it. It is indeed burnt orange.

Well, I thought he was talking about the figure's coat, which as far as I can tell has a red lining. There may be some orange in there, but it's overwhelmingly red.

Yes, I was indeed talking about the figure. It should be burnt orange...so I was wondering what it really was in-hand. Obviously that's been answered.

It's definitely a unique material though, I noticed it almost looked green in some lighting at the end of the movie, others more on the red side and some definitely orange.

I never thought it was blue, I always thought it was a shade of grey that could go differently under certain light conditions. His costume really is amazing for variation. Les and I were talking about his gloves the other day, some shots make them look very light purple, almost like a flower, and others borderline black they're so dark.

I sure as hell hope so, I've got them both on the same order to save on shipping, I might go a little mad if I have to wait on one for the other to come in. I'm guessing Toys 2 will get the first 2 1/6 figures and the 2 1/4 busts at the same time.

There is always the potential for post-production changes. This includes paint apps and choice of textiles. If it does change, it's more likely for the better.
