The Buck lives... but I like that dude.. he had a short but prominent appearance in the original SW. Definitely worth it for ANH purists..

No I wouldn't, but I like many people were hoping that the Buck would be retired, and not used as a way to distinguish between first and second tier figures. :(

Definitely looks like he's on the Buck, but no matter I want one of each kind of military so I'll pick him up. Be interesting to see if they have a bunch of fleet guys, or just the one.

Funny, just when I was trying to focus my collection on just ANH pieces, almost EVERYTHING Star Wars from SDCC is ANH. Ugh.

Looks worth it though.

It's telling that they don't have a 3-pack of these guys. Are there still any deniers left that think the Endor Squad wasn't a bust??

This is what they should've done to start, he looks great. Collar looks funky though, just as long as it turns out better than Shaun of the Dead.

It's telling that they don't have a 3-pack of these guys. Are there still any deniers left that think the Endor Squad wasn't a bust??

I disagree, maybe they feel as if people will customize the Fleet Trooper anyways. I think the Endor troops were cool (I only have Nik Sant) but only one of them is in the movie plus that's a tall order to ask people to commit to all three. Fleet Trooper would've been a better pick IMO for a 3 pack but the Endor troops have more variety to warrant 3 styles of outfit(s). So that's why SSC went that route understandably so.

devilof76
07-22-2008, 08:53 PM
Is this because there is no Medi to compare it to?

Or, because its picture shows the most detail. You can still barely see Vader or the stormtrooper, and it's easy to fantasize that it's no good when you can't see it clearly.

Joker
07-22-2008, 08:53 PM
Is this because there is no Medi to compare it to?

It's possible, but for a change I really see the actor in the sculpt. Funny that they can't get Harrison or Mark, but they get "Rebel Trooper #7".

great likeness. we just need to see a little longer sleeve and we've got a winner.

Actually, the shorter sleeves look pretty accurate (compared to the background scene). Honestly he looks about perfect, sculpt, outfit, accessories. If he can come out with similar materials (most worried about the pants changing) and with good paint he'll be a winner.

Fantastic "background" character figure!!!

Love that the sculpt looks like the "Leslie Nielson" looking character!

Definite must-get for me. I'll be putting him in that exact pose as well. The Buck sucks big-time but I'll make an exception for this guy. Maybe even swap out the body later. Sweet addition.

It may seem that way, but I just think there is less nitpicking and scrutinizing of every minute detail on these tertiary characters.

Depends on whether the "tertiary" character cost the same as the main character tbh

It may seem that way, but I just think there is less nitpicking and scrutinizing of every minute detail on these tertiary characters.

It's also true that we're less familiar with how they look, so we may be less likely to spot problems. That said, my first thought when seeing this guy was, "What a fantastic likeness! Too bad they couldn't do this for some of the characters we really care about..."

As a kid I never really liked these guys that much, but for some reason I've grown to love their look.
I'm definitely getting at least one, hopefully SSC won't charge too much for them since they won't come with much so I could get two. $55 would be ideal.

icruise

I think you're dreaming if you think it'll be $55. $70 is the new $55.

Just a Buck body, head sculpt, two hands, blaster, helmet, belt, vest, shirt, pants, and boots isn't much nor would I really want anything more.
And that's a $55 figure to me.
You're probably right since Ki-Adi-Mundi was bare bones too and he's $70. :monkey2

galactiboy
07-23-2008, 08:50 AM
I would guess $70 as well, but if no exclusive (and not a domestic exclusive) you could get one cheaper from a retailer... or pick it up later on the secondary market for even less.

Even if they don't loose Buck bodies w/ heads are so cheap you could easily do a few swaps. Hell even some Dragon heads would work.

If not mistaken, except for Captain Antilles, the troopers were all pretty much dressed alike. A captain Antilles would be a cool figure, though. Vader chocking him would be a cool pose.

It still needs to go man. I'm guessing that on the pro it will pose more natural and just look more natural in just a basic standing pose. That's BIG!
To say that it doesn't need to be on the pro is kinda absurd IMO, i mean why not just use a hasbro body or even crappier body? Even lower tier characters deserve more than the buck IMO. Like you want ESB Lando, want him on a Buck? Maybe, but i sure as hell don't.

Pricepoint, a buck body is what 20$ A HT TT is what 30? A pro? I can't see more than 10$ or so more and it would be well worth it.

Passed on Aayla and Ki Adi, but purchased the Rebel Fleet Trooper.

Not sure if 1 is enough, but not sure $140 for 2 or $210 for 3 is smart either.

More than likely I'll just have 1 for a while then when/if people dump or SSC puts him as Gift Card eligible, I'll get another.

Because some figures were developed before the Prometheus was completed.

icruise

I don't really buy that. Indy himself was originally sculpted with a full neck. They could switch these over to the new body if they wanted to, but it seems like they're using the buck for the more minor figures (apparently) as a way to keep them cheaper.

No, they've stated when the Pro and Armor body were announced that the Buck would continue to be used as well. I'm not sure what to think with a character like Belloq being made on the Pro and others not, but, I'm sure the costumes have the luxury of being done differently on the Pro, so if they were deep in development of some figures, they'll use the Buck the clothes and head were made for because it'd be a huge delay to redo wardrobe and head sculpt.

Sideshow Domestic Web Exclusive
Within the United States, this product is available only from Sideshow Collectibles.

It's possible that's wrong, or it's possible the retailers didn't realize that and are just offering preorders using their usual discount off of the Sideshow price.

I was looking at him yesterday and thinking the same thing. Rivaled only by Ben. Everything just clicks with this one.
The sculpt is great. Paint apps are great. The clothes look and fit great. It just looks like you took the actor and shrunk him down to 1:6 scale.

Those days are over...

I'm still in the 2005 and 2006 way of thinking I suppose. In 2005 and 2006 I could get 50 $50-$60 figures for the price of a $2500 60" DLP HDTV. Now figures are $70-$90 and that TV is only $1400.

50 figures or BIG ASS TV - I chose figures
20 figures or BIG ASS TV - Gimme that big screen

Used to be able to get about 6 figures for the price of a PS3. Now its 3.

Prices of collectibles going up, all my other entertainment options, BluRay player, SACD player, pretty much are going down.

Apples to oranges? Maybe, but if I can only spend X amount on fruit I'll buy the cheaper stuff.

True, it all depends on how you look at things. For example, are you getting paid more than you were in 2005?

Indeed I am! Which means I need to be even more discerning with my money. :lol

For a month or 2 after a recent raise, I was like "great, this will cover the recent price increase on toys." But I don't think that way anymore. My freakin raise should get me MORE stuff, not hold me even. I'm definately at the crossroads of cancelling everything I have on preorder and just buying it secondary market at my price.

Don't forget that the amount of money you get with pay raises is based on merit but also mainly to factor in the effect of inflation. So you make more money but everything in the world changes with you for the most part, i.e. the status quo.

It may seem like I am trying to argue with you, but I am also right there with you. I have been more selective of my purchases, too.

:peace

ProgMatinee
08-06-2008, 09:12 AM
I'm not arguing either. I just like to vent. :)

I agree about the inflation factor, its just I'm beginning to think that I'm more happy finding deals and buying stuff that I feel is a bargain now in 08 compared to prior years than stuff that I see as I'm paying more today than I did for relatively the same enjoyment only a few years ago.

Back in 1996 I had season tickets for the Avalanche and got a lot of enjoyment for $12 a ticket. But each subsequent year the price went up and by 1999 I realized I would have to pay $30 for the same seat I had for $12 only 2 years earlier. I just couldn't justify it despite the fact I had improved my income as well.

I want these toys, bad, but man its really becoming a tough choice.

Oh I don't think they planned it that way, either. What I am saying is that they probably need to do a better job of planning to PREVENT this many new items from shipping at the same time. Especially just weeks before Christmas. Good deals on those, though! :rock

Always happens this time of year. I just have come to expect it. :lol I might not know what to do if they didn't do this. Thanks!! Worked out quite well really.

I know Ki may be a more interesting figure on the shelf, but I'm an OT guy and I'd really prefer to keep this trooper of the two. I'm gonna try. Even if its a figure based on a character in two shots....still, he was the very first human in Star Wars with a close up. :)

I haven't been getting my notices at all WTF SS? First Indy and now this I might have to call them soon :(

I cancelled Indy on Friday. I just can't swing Indy, Ki Adi & the Rebel Trooper so close together. Honestly, my excitement for Indy died about 6 months ago. I'm sure the figure will be awesome, but I've decided to keep my focus on 1/6 Star Wars. I may pick him up later down the road, if my budget allows.

Its true, there always seems to be a rush in November or December. I think the only figure I was actually charged for this month was Indy. Gandalf and the Samaritan hit the end of October and the rest of these will all charge early december.

Man, I had 2 on order. I had to cancel 1, just too much coming down the pipe right now. Hope it helps one of you wait-listers out.

Can someone please post a good argument why should NOT get this figure?

I really want it -- don't know why -- but I know I should let it go.

Well honestly, he's a lot cheaper than most figures and pretty cool. I know he's not a real flashy figure but figure I might as well stick with him.

That's not helping me cut him loose. :)

Sorry... I kinda want to cut him loose as well, but honestly I can't think of much of a reason. Also, that old guy is really recognizable to me as a SW character, much more than Antilles is.

I'd say keep him. Don't try to talk yourself out of it. Personally, he's cooler than the stormtrooper.

I know, I know.... maybe not cooler than a Stormtrooper, but he does scream OT Star Wars to me. And he's a good balance for Praji, who I really like. I have a feeling this guy will be just as cool.

Dammit -- I'm keeping him.
