Didn't Arnold sell his digital image rights to the studio(something along those lines) and he'll be in these movies in CG form one way or another?

I hope not, unless it is a 3 second cameo or something like that.

What is there to see??? A few flashes, a desert, and that's about it... To early for me to get excited. After T1 and T2 being utterly superb, and T3 being one of the worst movies ever, I'm sceptical about this new Terminator flick. I hope it will be good though. I really hope so.

I hope it is just cameo stuff to pay homage to his role as the terminator, not a significant role in the film.

Terminator 3 wasn't that bad...

At least we got to see Arnold in the role one last time. The plot was kind of weak but I mostly view that film as sort of a one shot or maybe a what if movie- not really a real continuation of the story.

Agreed, no need for Arnold in the film. I wouldnt mind seeing a cameo, as it would make sense since he is the model John sends back, but only a cameo.

Time, fickle little thing it is. Time is like a big ball of wibbly-wobbly, timey wimey stuff. Which is why most stories about it make my head hurt. Did like the twist in T3 though, but this movie just isn't needed.

Wow.....Moon Bloodgood is in this:

:naughty:

As for Arnold, if the story is progressing where John is still having to lead a resistance, I'm a little torn because that means that Arnie ultimately failed...he just altered the future a bit and didn't change it. Also if John is this old then in reality Arnold shouldn't be in the picture yet because he'd be a good time away from being sent off to kill Sarah.

I'm pretty sure that's the whole premise of the film. The end came anyways, and now John is leading his army against the machines.

Or it means the third Arnold Terminator succeeded in his mission, John Connor survived in the bomb shelter and went on to lead the resistance.

i have faith Bale wouldn't do it unless he thought their was substance to it. I think it could be a lot of fun and I know people are complaining "you can't make Terminator without Arnold", to this I say B.S. If the makers of Alien would have realized this, I wouldn't have had to suffer through Alien Resurrection. The story is bigger than that.

why is this so odd?
people tend to link him with Burton films, thus being gothic and fairy tail-like themes...

but remember he scored the Spider-Man theme, he made an excellent Mission Impossible (1) theme.
+ he even got a oscar nomination for his Good Will Hunting score
+ the Simpsons...

this guys has proven he can do all sorts of themes, not just dark and gothic wich many people seem to link him with.

I believe he will incorporate the brad fiedel terminator signature theme in his score just like he did with the Mission Impossible theme.

Hamilton Confirms She'll be Back for Terminator
Source: MTV February 20, 2009

Linda Hamilton has confirmed what Terminator Salvation director McG first hinted at last month - she'll be back to do a voiceover as Sarah Connor. Hamilton told MTV:

"We are talking"... "I haven't read it yet. I don't know what direction they will go in."

While she awaits the specifics in a script, Hamilton already knows what her role generally would be. "My contribution would be voiceover," she said. "I would probably be very happy to loan my voice depending on what the material is. Wait and see. They're already writing it. We've been negotiating it.

Terminator Salvation is coming to theaters on May 21.

What chance do the machines have with Batman leading the charge against them?

IMO after a really bloody battle they should have two guys looking for thier brothers. One named Bruce, and the other Wayne. Calling out alternately "Bruce?" "Wayne?" Then Bale walks up and says "Guys...give up. You wont find them till morning because....its a really Dark Night!" Just then...something flys over head and Bale screams "Was that a machine?" Another man calms him saying..."nah its a Bat, man!" budum dum PSH!

you all seem to forget that Elfman has a lot more in his sleeve than just scoring for dark gothic tim burton movies...

to name af few a-typical burton movies he has scored:
Good Will Hunting (even nominated for an oscar)
Milk (ditto)
THE SIMPSON-theme
theme for Spider-Man
Hulk
Mission Impossible I => interesting to add here is the kept the signature theme song from the series!
So I would bet he will do the same thing for the Terminator theme

The Corpse Bride” and “Batman” indicated that the original “Terminator” theme by composer Brad Fiedel was not in use yet; nor is there mandate to incorporate the classic symphonic hook. He did, however, leave the door open for its appearance.

“I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will [use it],” Elman said. “And if it doesn’t, we [won't]. I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun. Especially a movie like “T4” – just have fun. So that’s what I intend to do.”

I know...and I get it. But its kinda like, if John Williams couldnt do an Indy movie, and some guy never used the theme.....its just annoying to me. Esp one so iconic....(not that HB was iconic...but I wanted it used again..)

...If he even used the Mission Impossible theme, why not use the Terminator theme.

Riko

Why didnt he use the HB theme?

dunno and to be honest, the HB theme wasn't near as iconic as the MI or Terminator themes...maybe that is why he chose to ignore it.
(hell, If someone would ask me to sing it or something, I couldn't remember it...)
That said, it would be hard for him to ignor the Terminator theme as it would be hard to ignore the MI theme. So I think he will use also the iconic theme wich the Terminator theme is.

CelticPredator

I hope so. The HB score was the most disappointing. It didnt actually have a new theme at all. There was nothing interesting about it.

I agree. This movie is looking better and better with each new tidbit that gets released. And as far as the whole PG-13 vs. R debate, IMO a PG-13 movie doesn't immediately sink Terminator: Salvation. The Dark Knight was a spectacular film and extremely dark, and it was PG-13. The ending of Episode III was pretty freakin' intense, and that was PG-13.

Today's movies can get away with a lot more for lesser ratings than older films did. Honestly, leave out the "F" bomb and cut back a little on the blood, and T2 could've been PG-13 today.

plasmid303
03-02-2009, 06:00 PM
I agree with you about how a pg-13 rating shouldn't castrate Salvation's impact. Just watching the trailer, you see a character with his ribcage exposed, which is pretty gnarly in and of itself. I don't mind if the swearing and gore are toned back.

I don't know a single person who walked out of The Dark Knight saying, "That movie needed more blood and profanity." In retrospect, one could argue that the film might have been more powerful with an R rating (although not by me), but the reaction of the audience upon seeing the PG-13 cut of TDK speaks for itself. Nolan made a fantastic movie without obvious artistic sacrifices and it ranks along with Titanic (another PG-13) in terms of critical/box office success and popularity.

Now, the obvious question is--if Batman Begins had been rated R, would audiences have felt the same about a PG-13 sequel?

I absolutely believe that an epic and intense and satisfying Terminator film can be made and then subsequently be given a PG-13 rating. But I can also sympathize with those who see the tradition of R ratings with the first three films and wonder what adult content is being toned down to achieve a teen friendly rating. The previous films in the franchise have not been teen movies, but adult movies. I think that the question of whether or not the filmmakers should produce a teen sequel to an adult trilogy is worth the discussion it's been getting.

I think a good example would be a comparison between Alien Vs. Predator and its sequel AVP: Requiem. The former was PG-13, the latter was rated R. I don't remember too much from either movie (they were not good), but I don't I ever thought "wow, AVP-R is better than the first one because it had more blood and guts."

As long as the story is just as gripping as Cameron's Terminator movies, I don't care what Salvation is rated. Will I miss seeing a spike impaling a human head? Probably. Could I live without it? Definitely.

And hey, they can get away with a lot even with a PG-13. Titanic had naked boobs!

That new trailer is AWESOME. I know some people are still on the fence with this, but this latest trailer really does impress. I agree with what's been said, if it's anything like Cameron's films, then it will certainly excel. I assumed Marcus Wright was going to be a surprise... interesting that it doesn't seem that's the case. A good thing too, I was thinking I inadvertently spoiled the movie for myself in a huge way.

Not sure I like the idea of Terminators as, essentially, Cylons. But apart from that, looks great.

I also think it is pretty ridiculous to think that a film's "rating" should make any difference whatsoever. The filmmakers should make the best film they can, and let the idiots that rate movies do whatever they do.

Also realize that a movie that was R in the 80s or early-mid 90s may well be a PG-13 movie today. Attitudes and expectations change.

The Marcus as a Termintor isn't that much of a spoiler.

My thoughts exactly. NIN was an awesome music choice for the trailer. I forwarded the link to all of my good friends, telling them simply, "Watch this, $h!t your pants, and enjoy."

Over the past year I have gone from cautiously optimistic to having ludicrously high hopes. They've brought John Connor full circle, a true unrelenting military commander, the martial leader of the human resistance. Marcus Wright looks to be a very, very interesting part of the plot. Every day it looks better, every picture they show makes me more excited, and every clip is more breathtaking than the last. Salvation has escalated to the top of the list of movies I am most looking forward to seeing in the immediate future.

I agree that it looks pretty badass so far, but I'm not sure I like the Marcus Wright character. Someone earlier mentioned that Marcus is essentially a Cylon-esque character. I don't think we need the Terminators to be humanized. They tried that in The Sarah Connor Chronicles (sorta), and it was awkward.

“That is not the ending. John Connor is not the machine. We did discuss that idea, but that is not the ending, I can say that right now.” So says McG. I hope he's not bull^^^^ting, because I think Connor becoming a Terminator would be a lame way to take a go at a revamp.

What does happen is...? Anyone's guess, I suppose. I'm not sure how everything goes with Marcus, but it does make you wonder, doesn't it? Would the machines really have created him in the first place, allowing him to empathize with humans and they with him, if the machines didn't have some sort of plan already, forgive me the pun, fleshed out so as to use the human empathy and trust to their advantage? Just a thought.
