Alright, honestly, I'm really tired of hearing all the negative stuff people are saying about KOTKS.
This is a thread for those of you who enjoyed the movie for what it was and actually appreciate Lucas, Spielberg, and Ford bringing the series back on screen after years of countless waiting. So let's hear who actually appreciated the movie!
I LOVED it! I thought it was great and actually enjoyed it for what it's worth. So let's hear some positive stuff! No negativity in here!

I loved it too...I don't care if people say it's unrealistic...
It's a movie, it doesn't have to be realistic...
Unlike Star Wars...which is real...:monkey3
It was pure fun for me...PURE FUN...
LOVED IT!!!

Ok now that the dust has settled and I am calm I shall now write in fairness what I did like.
-The snake part
-The wedding at the end (although seen that one coming)
-The arc appearance
-I actually thought the fight in the diner was funny
-The hat at the end when Indy takes it from Mutt
-Even thought it was in the trailer I loved the swing into the truck "Damn, I thought that was closer"
-I also liked the way they did the cameo for his father. -The library scene when the student asks him questions
-Also liked Indy's backstory (Him being in the military and winning many medals)
-I also liked it when he told Mutt he is going back to school. This after earlier telling to do whatever makes him happy.
Well there you have it. That is what I did like about the movie.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how much I actually liked this film and was very happy to have dragged my self out of the house at midnight to see it with a packed house.
The film was great fun, and I actually think this will go down as my second favorite Indy film, after Raiders...
So there you are, I loved it and will probably see it two or three more times in the theater.

----------------------------------------------------------------
It was too late for me last night to get into my thoughts on this movie. I tried to go in with low expectations because I didn't want to be upset with it.
I don't get the hate with this movie. Is it the best of the series? No, its probably not but I need to see it again to really graps where I would ACTUALLY rank it. Overall, I had a pretty damn good time and I plan on seeing it again and buying the DVD. No, I'm not trying to feed the machine but simply rewatching/buying a film I had a damn good time at.
The first few mins took me a little getting into it but I've never been a HUGE fan of 50 era style movies. The whole drag racing sequence basically. Once Indy stepped on screen it started drawing me in and the fun started going on from there.
Loved the sequence in the warehouse and the homage to Raiders with the Ark. The action and Indy doing what he does to find this crate was cool. It was a lot like what happened in LC which was fine with me. Then you take him going through the bombing town that added something to the movie. What? For me it really put Indy in the decade and what was going on with just being out of WWII for just a few years really. The fridge sequence was alright maybe a little too out there for me and my sister but I just blew by it and kept having fun.
It kind of pissed me off with the whole Indy being accused of possibly being a communist. I seriously wanted to beat the flying muck out of those guys, and actually if any part really bugged me it was that whole he might be a communist thing.
I loved the homage to Jones Sr and Brody when Indy was at his desk. I found the line the other guy said to be very true because I've heard my own Dad say it. You get to the age where life stops giving you so much and taking some of what you love back. I loved that because I think you saw Indy realize that time is short and enjoy the ride/love those around ya.
Then you enter Shia LaBeouf who IMO did a super job in his role and I see where his character might have some potential. I wasn't the biggest fan of the greaser aspect but he did a great job of pulling it off. Then you toss in how he interacted with Ford during the whole thing, and showed moments where he was a little bit short round then goes and acts a little bit like Indy.
When they go looking for the skull that was pretty cool, but I like how it was actually about archeology. Indy doing what he does to find it and getting Mutt out of trouble. Just like Indy always has to do with whoever the sidekick is. The karate guys where maybe a touch strong but I take that as all part of the game like the guys from TOD. Then them finding the bodies and the skull was just freaking awesome. That reminded me of Indy and the Idol in Raiders for some reason. I think it might be the expression on his face.
Indy looking into the skull really helped bring it all together and it worked for me. Mac pulling that trick on Indy pissed me off but it was supposed to tick ya off IMO. Seeing Marion again was great! Though she didn't say a lot but it was nice seeing her back. Indy and the Snake that was freaking great! All I could think about was Raiders when he gets into the plane and freaks out. Mutt not knowing and using it was classic as well.
The battle sequence in the jungle was pretty freaking cool. I thought the pacing of it all was pretty well done and I had no issues with the CGI. The stuff with the Monkeys was nonsense and could have been left out as far as I'm concerned. I know my sister felt the same way about that too. The Ants though I thought was great! I've seen enough National Geographic and Discovery to know there are ants that do this type of stuff. So to me it was believable and fun/sick to watch it all go down. I also loved how the ants stayed away from whoever was holding the Skull. I could also have lived without the multiple nut shots to Mutt. 1-2 ok but after that it was like we get the point.
Once they got into the temple it was again like Raiders for me. Waiting to see exactly how things where gonna pan out for Indy. I loved seeing all the aliens and the look was pretty sweet so it worked for me. Spalko's death was fine with me too. Why? It was a lot like Donovan's death in LC. She did not choose wisely and for that choice paid the ultimate price.
The wedding was nice and I'm glad to see Indy now moving into that phase and am curious to see where this takes him.
Overall, I am sad that some aren't enjoying this movie because I think you're missing a good one. Its no worse than TOD for me or thats where I'm leaning right now. The pacing and the way the all acted off each other was fine. So I got not complaints there. Sure, there where a few moments where I was like ok as I said and a few small others but it didn't kill the movie for me. This was INDY and I can't wait for Indy 5.

I've heard a lot of hate over the goundhogs and I don't really get it. I loved the groundhog hole getting run over by the car...it immeadiately puts you where/when the film is, not just telling you by a date/place stamp (which they did too) but also showing you. Classic Spielberg there.

Josh, I'm totally behind everything you wrote.
You took the trouble and explained it all bit by bit, and it turns out we see eye to eye for once!
:google
Of course some bits are silly, but then, bits will always be silly in an Indy movie. There's silliness galore in all of them. And I'm so glad that at least some of us old fans can still love that silliness, and not impose our own grown-up embittered selves upon it. (Hey, I'm as embittered as the next guy. *chews own pinkie* See? Bitter. And this one was so sweet when I was two.)
Also, I now feel pretty smug about that Lucas quote I've had in my S&F sig since January. It pertains to KOTCS, and was utterly prescient on George's part.

I'm a big kid. My Dad is the same way and he and I both are of the mind that growing up sucks. Maybe it helps teaching young kids and that rubs off on me. :lol I was so worried about not enjoying this movie but that didn't happen and I'm so releaved.

I just saw it today and I wasn't even going to post anything because of all the Model Fanboy Behavior Pattern (obsess obsess obsess, hate hate hate) that's growing on trees around here. So, a BIG thank you to photoshopmagician for creating this thread.
In a nutshell I really, really enjoyed it. It surpassed my mild expectations by a long shot and I thought the truck chase/sword fight in particular stands out to me as Spielberg really getting all over a sequence like only he can.
Before I say anything else I want to go back and read the thread so I'm not repeating anyone.

The odd thing is, as I read over the bile being spewed in the other thread and the blatant stupidity on display over at AICN, I began to like the movie more and more.
The longer I've lived with what it is as opposed to what I thought I wanted/what I thought it was going to be, the more I realize just how much I enjoyed it.
It's no Raiders, but for the love of God, if that's your litmus test for whether or not you'll enjoy a movie, then I feel bad for you. Let us know the next time you see a movie that measures up, cause that's definitely a flick I'm gonna want to see!

Really enjoyed it was well. My expectations were lowered but I really left with a smile on my face. Girlfriend loved it too and wants to see it again!
It's not Raiders but I guess I didn't expect it to be. Lucas and Spielberg have always made movies that appealed to them and this is no exception. You get the sense that everyone making the movie really had a great time and it shows.
I actually liked the alien element... Also liked that they weren't from 'another planet'. I really thought Spielberg was going to explore this 'dimension' idea in War Of the Worlds but glad we toyed with it here.
I also liked that the movie was really a rescue mission more than a artifact quest.
Has anyone mentioned the "blowing the dart back into his mouth" scene? Classic "Indy" and Spielberg moment.
There were so many effortless, great shots though out the movie. I think we often take them for granted.
Really hate when people get into "Iron Man is better than this..." mode. Loved them both and think it's going to be a great Summer! Great time to be a movie fan!

I really loved that the true treasure was knowledge. It gave resonance to the "finish school" gag.
I absolutely loved the kind of bookend shots - Indy observing the mushroom cloud / UFO takeoff. The difference between what humans and this strange but benevolent race do with their knowledge.
The humans have a warehouse filled with dangerous artifacts they've hoarded, the "aliens" have a temple crammed with artwork.
The key villain is killed by attaining knowledge that the human mind is not ready for.
Awesome.

Good thread!
It took me a couple of times seeing it to shake off the newness of it, but once that was done, I love it. I have about decided I like it more than LC, and in some ways, more than TOD, but those only stay ahead due to pure out Indy action, and that is not Harrison's fault for being older.
And, for what it's worth, neither the monkeys nor the prairie dogs bothered me at all. LOVE the ants! Wicked stuff! Best of all though is all the dead bodies everywhere. That was a hoot. Gruff had it right from the get go, this is indeed, an Indiana Jones movie. It is different, but aren't they all, from each other? So, go with it.
Didn't know it was so negative in other threads. Haven't been in and posting much, so I'll keep my comments in here. Easy enough.

LOVED IT!! I really liked the alien angle, even though that scene at the end pretty much lost HALF the audience. Maybe it's my whole "I want to believe" mentality. Shia did a great job, and I loved John Hurt. Great scene when Shia is riding the bike and Indy is in the back - a true homage to the LC motorcycle scene with Ford and Connery. Gorgeous scenery, and the golden throne room at the end was the best eye candy i've seen in a long time.
Now make me an Indy figure with a crystal skull!!

Yea! That's what I'm talking about! The motorcycle chase was one of the best scenes. I think the reason why sooooo many people love that scene is because if you compare it to the other scenes, the motorcycle chase uses zero (or very little, I didn't see any) CGI. It was like classic Indy all over again.
But then you have the car chase scene in the jungle, and while it was still completely awesome, you could tell a lot of it was CGI, which is not classic Indy.

I also loved the look Indy gave Mutt (irritation---disapproving) when he was so happy about Marcus' statue head falling into through the commie's windshield and into his lap--- so much like Indy's look of satsifaction in Crusade when they're ALSO on the bike having just escaped and instead of pride Connery's Jones Sr. looks bored and checks the time. Different emotions but a nice moment to link the generations.

I thought the lighting and shot composition throughout the film were nicely done. The iconic shadow of the man in the hat was great to see. The opening with Indy putting on his hat, standing staring at the abomb, and Indy being held captive in the Soviet camp with his shadow on the netting come to mind.

I've said it before, there is much to enjoy in the film. Some beautiful shots, some fun moments with characters I've loved for a long time. I'm not all doom and gloom about this picture, though I have harped about its weaknesses more. As flawed as I think the story is, it was great to see our beloved Indy back in another adventure!

Going back to see it for a 3rd time tonite.
One rumor I noticed a few months ago was that Lucasfilm would not distribute this movie in digital. Alot of posts were dissappointed and so was I, but I caught it digitally just last night. Sorry if this old news but I just wanted to make a point of how much better and clearer the film looked in digital. It didn't take away anything in the nostalgia factor and really complemented the sweeping scenery shots of the Jungles of Peru and the Nevada Deserts. The opening shots inside of Area 51 looked that much better because they weren't as dark/blurry. I already enjoyed this movie and now just that more so.
Me and the Mrs went to see it at a Cinema in the UK and we both loved it.
She actually asked to go and see it - so thats a first.
I kind of liked the way that the torch was passed to Indys son at the end.
Brilliant and a superb UK actor - Ray Winstone shone like a diamond in it (as always).
Go and see it you wont be dissapointed.
Thumbs up!!

Just got back from seeing it and like the rest of you in this thread, LOVED IT!!!! Alot of great stuff in it like the ants, the opening with the old Paramount logo, the bike/car chase, the jungle chase, the snake scene, i could go on. I also thought Shia did a good job and it was nice to see Marion again. There were a couple of things i didn't like (not a negative thing for the movie) was Indy being accused of being a Communist and Mac, that backstabbing bastard. But Shia's "Tarzan" moment was a bit much, though. And tonight was the first time in awhile that i had a smile on my face through pretty much the entier movie:D Can't wait to see it again.... and again.... and again.... and again.... and again....

As I've posted in the other threads - I liked it a lot. Spielberg still has a lot of kid in him - he has no real inner censor - if he thinks it will be cool, he'll do it whether anyone else thinks it's cool or not. M. Night Shyamalan is a lot like this but not nearly as successfully.
But this is a different kind of Indy and making it a more sci-fi mcguffin rather than a supernatural one, seems to have alienated (pun intended) a lot of Indy fans. I thought I was going to hate Mutt (just as Indy seems to want to hate him) but I ended up liking him. I was ready to accept him putting on the hat at the end - but I was also glad when Indy took it back.

I agree--I was expecting Shia to be the kind of goofy (as in Transformers) sidekick that was going to get on my nerves. But they made him fairly endearing and capable, and I enjoyed seeing the two of them work together.

I saw it this afternoon and loved it. I also got a big grin on my face when Indy said "I have a bad feeling about this"

Same here... I was worried it would be too jokey a character, but they gave him a lot of depth and emotion to really make him interesting to watch. Like Dave, I was almost ready to see him in the hat too... Just to see if it suited him. But was happy when Indy pulled it away. Great scene too.
And like IronFingaz, I was smiling from ear to ear for pretty much the entire movie. I really loved it. I think that's why I have been defending it so much, because I just had such a great time watching it and couldn't wrap my mind around someone hating it. But as Dave said, I think the sci-fi MacGuffin alienated a lot of people and it didn't fit in their minds with what an Indy movie should contain. Many people who didn't like it when they left the theater today and yesterday, that was the major complaint. There were some people who brought up the monkey bit, but most were about the aliens.
I'm really excited to see it again. I know I will probably go and watch it at least 2 more times... just because I can for free. But even if I were paying, I'd still catch it one more time. Such an enjoyable experience at the theater. :rock

Another thing - both Raiders and Crusade the supernatural element only came up at the very end of the film. The rest of the film is very straightforward action adventure. But with this one, the effect of the skull is very present through a large part of the film. It drives Ox crazy and influences Indy. So perhaps that has something to do with why people are so against the McGuffin.

Agree 100%, I almost felt embarassed when it flashed into my mind "I'd see Indy 5 if the next movie starred him" :lol
I guess I don't get the big deal about it being a extraterrestrial artifact vs a religious one. I think they handled it well and it didn't take away from the Indy feel. But this time instead of an item being imbued with a known deities power, we got it from an inter-dimensional traveler... whose to say they didn't give the arc its powers too :monkey3

That was odd to me at first, but when I thought about Spielberg and Lucas wanting the movies to feel like movies made of that time period the whole aliens thing makes sense. I mean really that is the essence of the Indiana Jones franchise imo.

Second time and like Fingaz & Josh I was smiling ear 2 ear. Maybe I'm just some stupid movie fan but I enjoyed it. Thought it was a good movie and I plan on seeing it at least 1 more time before it gets done in the theaters.

Yea, the second time around was even better than the first for me too. I even saw it both times the same day :lol

Don't know if anyone's posted this... Roger Eberts journal entry about loving "Indy". I think he hit it right on the head!

Indiana Jones himself is so laid back he sometimes seems to be watching the movie with us. He's happy to be aboard, just as long, of course, as he can stay in the boat/truck/airplane.
:D
Ebert is great--I like that part.
