just wanted to let you guys and gals know. i replied to a thread in which shai was talking about a white elektra statue at a local comic shop. i asked him to pm me the information. then later on this morning i did a google search to see if there were any other shops still carrying elektra and what do i see, the first line of shai's pm to me as a link.:horror
when you clicked on it, it took you to the discussion thread, and not to the rest of the message, thankfully.
for people discussing personal things or relaying personal or financial information, it may not be a good idea through personal message on the board. i wonder if anyone else had this happen? can you imagine, your sensitive information, payal or bank info. coming up on google as a link? :horror
that is scary.
Thanks for the heads up.

Are you sure the subject line wasn't said in the thread as well?

it wasn't the subject line, it was the first line of the personal message word for word as a google link.

Google now searches your computer for references and those are the first things that pop up. They aren't public links. It freaked me out the first time I saw it until I saw what it was.
I'm pretty sure that's what you found.

the first line of the pm was what i saw as a google link. what i was worried for was if that first line had contained sensitive information. so you're saying no one else could see what i saw because it came from my computer?
i'm not sure how that would pop up when searching for elektra in google but just a heads up to be on the safe side.

I can't say for sure what you saw was the same thing I saw, but I know it freaked me out because it looked just like a regular google link right above all the normal web citations. But in small print under it said that it was found on my own computer. I think it only works if you have Google desktop installed or something.

it would be interesting to test Dave's theory. Maybe post how you googled it and others can test to see if we see the same link come up.

Is it possible you have Google Desktop installed and don't know it? Maybe came with the computer?
I tried the search and nothing from Sideshowcollectors.com even came up on the first two pages.

I know that Google likes to try to install its stuff in connection to other programs and you have to be pretty vigilant about unchecking that Google box or they will sneak it in on you.

I googled "sideshow elektra tylerd" and got some hits from this thread as well as another, but I don't think any of them was Pms.

Maybe I don't understand...if the title of the PM was the same as the title of the thread, how do you know it was pulling the PM and not the thread?
go ahead and send me a bs PM and try to google for it.

the title of the link (blue, underlined) from the google search was word for word, the first line of shai's pm to me. when you clicked onto the link, it took you to the ss freaks thread discussing the subject of elektra, and not the personal message. what worried me was if the first line of the pm had personal or sensitive information, the world would be able to see it as the link title.
