Nice!
I can't tell if it's a new body, but the outfit looks great!

It looks like it has a separate jointed neck unlike the previous female figures that were a solid piece with the torso.

Very nice looking and it could be a modified body or new body. Not really interested in the property... but glad to see some stranger 1/6 figures. Very surprised that Sideshow would do a 1/6 of a Videogame character.

The Mike
04-10-2008, 08:05 PM
If she does well I wouldn't be surprised if they did more.....Warcraft for starters then the Lara PF.....most video games licenses gotta be more affordable than other mediums. If she does well I guarantee we get variations on her but what I'm hoping for is that with the new body they they'll do figures like Link, Samus, and other big ticket folk.

lerath666
04-10-2008, 08:30 PM
i think yu're roight aout the neck. Also, the pose lokos a bit more natural than the Female buck is capble of pulling off methinks.

AND it would make sense that if it's a new female body, that she'd be totaly clothed in the preview shot, to hide the new body.

Memnoch

Could be. I really have no clue but it looks like a small gap there and it also look like the neck itself is tilted a bit. We probably won't know until it goes up for pre-order.

The Craw

im all for a new SS female body. that solid neck really hinders head posebility IMO.

Darklord Dave
04-10-2008, 08:57 PM
The 2 part neck won't look as good if she's got her standard scoopneck T-shirt on under that jacket. But I don't think it's a new body.

I'm happy about this one though - I hope she can accomplish a few different looks or there are more Lara's to come.

Moonloop
04-10-2008, 09:02 PM
Well if its clothed up and still the old Buck, that is fine with me. The figure will be cheaper :D. I think Lara would look fine on the Buck body.....

Sachiel
04-10-2008, 09:05 PM
I thought it was a two-part neck, too. But it just looks like it's the collar of her shirt. Still, she looks good from what I can tell.

I have less of a problem with the female bucks. Doesn't mean I don't want a new Female body.

You could use a Cy Girl body. Would be perfect for Lara.

I think you're right. The neck looks like its the standard Buck from the picture shown also would they premiere a new body with a 2nd tier license?

I'm actually hoping that Lara will be closer to $50 because she is a video game license and possibly on the old body....

I wish they'd make a Adam Hughes Lara PF.....

Adam seems to have a good relationship with SS, I'm wondering when they'll let him loose on other licenses than Marvel...

I need more a different non-photoshopped pic to make up my mine. And isn't Lara wearing a lot of clothes, especially compared to the PF? :monkey5

What are the odds that we'll get more pics before next Thursday? Not really done outside of the 1st tiers licenses right???

Darklord Dave

So, since this is the 'Legend' figure, is it safe to assume that they'll be doing Lara in her outfits from other games?

This figure is fantastic and I love it, but I'd really like to see her in her more traditional outfits, shorts and blue shirt or brown top with shorts.

If they're going 1/6 with Lara, then there ought to be at least a couple more figures to follow, so no doubt we'll be seeing her in the "classic" TR outfit sooner or later. I hope they make a wetsuit and harpoon gun version too. It would be cool if they threw in some of the other weapons and gear she used in the games as well, and maybe some of the artifact trophies she collected.

If it's not a new body...meh.

Lara has got to be able to strip down to her vest and the old Buck just will not let that happen without a high degree of embarresment, and the lack of shorts make me think there may be some real ugly legs under there!

Too bad about the body...but I want to see pictures before I go so far as to make or break a purchase. This is definitely one of those "on-the-fence" items for me. It's got great appeal and I know it will look great on the shelf, but with SDCC coming there's a good chance my excitement will wear off before she gets into my hands. Cost will also be a factor. $49.99 is gonna be hard to say no too, while the new $89.99 will be an instant pass.

Anyway, the pics will make me decide if I preorder or not.

I've always been under the impression that people generally consider the Tomb Raider games (I've never played one) to be very overrated and mediocre, and the movies were terrible. Is there really a following for Lara Croft or do you guys just think she's a cool looking chick? I'm just trying to comprehend the excitement over adding this to one's collection.

plasmid303
04-11-2008, 07:08 PM
The first two Tomb Raider games were very good at the time. It gained a big following for it's gameplay, not just for Lara and her...assets. It's too bad that pretty much every TR game released after the first few sucked. The series rebooted with Tomb Raider Legend, and that game (from which the SS figure takes it's outfit) is quite good.

So if you're wondering how Tomb Raider got so popular, you should just play the first couple of games or just skip them and try TR Legend. Actually, the first Tomb Raider game was recently remade with updated graphics and controls. I haven't tried it yet but I've heard it's pretty good. Everything else about the entire TR series sucks, including the movies. (But I'd still love an Angelina Jolie as Lara figure in my collection).

Anyway, I'm definitely adding the new Lara figure to my collection, although I hope they release and second figure in her classic outfit. I like the "Legend" outfit, but the original blue tank top and shorts are more iconic.

Vader AL
04-11-2008, 07:19 PM
the first tomb raider was an incredible game for the time...a way to step into the shoes of Indiana Jones...but with long legs, big boobs and a woman packing heat! Some of the others were good and I loved Legend. I think Angelina was made to be Lara but I hope they keep the video game look.

As for the original series, anything after part 2 is dreck. But the first is a classic. Lara defintely deserves her icon status.

Looks great! I'm definitely going to get one.

So is this based on a certain actress you've sculpted before? ;) ;) ;)

I hope not, I should get back to finishing my Jolie I've had lying around for years. She was pretty close to completion, but I just lost the desire to sculpt.

haha! Well, not deliberately, but it may bare some resemblance, you'll have to decide when more shots are shown. :) It was based on the game designs, just sculpted to feel like you pulled her into the real world....or as real-world as action figures get.:D

Jolie is fun to sculpt, I hope you go back to your piece!

I've finished Anniversary, which is the original TR remake, and it was really fun. I got about halfway through Legend, also good so far.

As for the original series, anything after part 2 is dreck. But the first is a classic. Lara defintely deserves her icon status.

I agree the first two were the most fun. Tomb Raider had a lot to do with making the PlayStation such a big success, along with Resident Evil and Metal Gear Solid. I hadn't heard that much about Anniversary until now, if it's that good then I guess I should give it a try.

It looks there are plenty of costume options available in Legend, so its likely Sideshow will offer up some other versions of Lara down the road, including the "classic" TR outfit... hopefully on a newly designed female body!

actually in the game there is a funny part where one of Lara's scientist buddies and her tech guy are arguing because the scientist is sticking to realistic history and the tech guy keeps messing with him about the supernatural...he also mixes up Excalibur with The Sword in the Stone I think and it drives the scientist guy crazy(you hear them in your ear piece) anyway, you'd enjoy that conversation, it's pretty funny.

Hm, may actually have to check out the game. Haven't played a Tomb Raider since.. maybe the first? *Sigh* All I know is that there's no such thing as "real" history when it comes to anything Celtic, half the recorded history was probably made up and Merlin's magic was probably a romance invention of the French because in actuality IF Merlin existed he was a prophet and had no actual connection or contact with 'Arthur' if HE even existed. :lol God I hate the end of semesters. Sorry for possibly turning this into a "Recession, increasing gas prices, screw Bush," discussion but seriously, this doesn't merit an $80 price tag. What is a "normal" price on a somehwat obscure figure... $60? To raise that price to $80, an increase of $20, is a 33% increase. That doesn't meet inflation, I think... I'm not sure how much things have gone up in the 5+ year long war we've been in and recent economic down turn, but 33% hardly seems justified. For Gandalf, sure, I ordered, because I REALLY want Gandalf, but how many people REALLY want Lara Croft? Sideshow can get away with this seemingly unjustified increase in price sometimes, but not on a piece like this. If the next Dead figure is $80, I'll be happy with #0-1025 and stop there.

I considered ordering, had every intention to order last week at the expected $55-$60 price tag, but ultimately I couldn't even order this knowing I would ulitmately cancel, and why give a false impression of high market demand at these increased prices. Maybe it's time to switch over to Hot Toys at these prices, or stick solely to polystone.

What does this mean for the new Indy PF? if we see a 33% increase on that, since "regular/prerecession" pricing was ~$300-$350, will Indy be at $399-$465?

I'm over the costing debate. I pay more for Medicom and Hot Toys and I reckon Sideshow is still up there, in terms of quality, and remains less, in terms of expense. I wont be swapping her out for a bigger busted body, as I'm pretty happy with how they have done her.

I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. It's not going to suit everyone's taste or ideas of what Lara should resemble, but it still remains a nice figure. Not sure if they are trying to mimic the video game Lara, but I think the sculpt does bear more than a passing resemblance to Angelina Jolie's movie version. For that alone I got it. :google:

Happy weekend!

I pre-ordered the Exc. and I'll probably get a second one down the road from a retailer...

That's what I'll probably end up doing if I get a second or a GC if it goes to being able to be used by a GC.

I actually feel pretty good about the price on this one. I think it's fair considering all the stuff she comes with plus two outfits.

The figure looks fantastic, but $80!! :(

I really like the figure, and I placed a pre-order for it, but I just don't know if I'm big enough a fan of Lara Croft to put down $80 for one.

Yeah, 2 outfits is the key. Of course, you really need a better body for the skimpier outfit and you'll need a second head sculpt.

But if you get a head and body off ebay, then you basically have 2 Lara Crofts ready to go.

Maybe that Dragon Jennifer would work with a repaint.

Just ordered this great looking figure.

Reminds me of the days, rushing home from work in 1996 to play Tomb Raider on the PS1. I would sit there and be in awe of the next gen graphics :rock

Anyways, just realised that I had $30.00 in Sideshow points to redeem, so for me she is only $50.00 (sorry) :D :D

Got the exclusive too :joy

Actually this has got me pumped. I have avoided getting Tomb Raider "Anniversary" on the Xbox 360, I didn't want to lose the memories of the original, but after ordering this figure I am now downloading this from the marketplace.

Cheers

If Sideshow only has the license to Tomb Raider : Legend that might explain why they don't or can't show any pics of her in the classic outfit

I have wondered if they just aren't ready to show the other outfit yet. I'm not sure if their license is the reason, because she wears the classic outfit in the Ghana level of Legend. Plus the classic outfit is unlockable in the game. If I remember the game right there was like 25 unlockable outfits.

They're probably just not ready to show it yet. That thing would fit pretty tight on her torso, and I guess it's not done yet... or just looks bad.

My guess is she wasn't originally going to come with the classic outfit and by the time they decided to include it it was too late to have it ready for the prototype photos.

That, and the Buck body will look terrible mostly exposed. It might have scared some people away from PO.

That is my guess as well. Unless it's on a new body (and according to Dusty it's not) the other outfit isn't going to look so hot.

good point. i will not have her in that outfit because i can't stand seeing joints to that degree...i wish they would work with Hot Toys and use a non-exposed jointed body for figures that expose their arms, etc.

That new Triad female body looks great. I believe Les posted some pictures in the custom gallery.

Sooner or later we'll get a satisfactory female body. Got to get a second anyway for Lara, plus a head sculpt.

I love Trev's sculpt for this. Best of both world's I think. It would be nice to have the option to get a second head so we can used the second outfit on a second figure.

If SS only sold loose head sculpts....

Thankfully, Lara isn't blue. I'll probably grab an Otaku also.

And the edition size is nice too.

The price is a bit easier to except with the second outfit. I was however personally hoping she'd come with the distinctive blue tank top.

I am a bit sad because I didn't pay enough attention to this so I pre-ordered the regular version instead of the exclusive. But I am still happy to have it nonetheless. I am worried about the knees mostly. And of course arms. In her shorts and tshirt outfit I want to not have to see such scary looking joints. So let's hope.

It's actually ok. I have come to terms with not having the exclusive. It's not that important.

I too am not sure how I feel about the joints for the shorts outfit. So, I went ahead and pre-ordered a PF Lara.

The tailoring does the body some serious justice. The Racquel Welch headsculpt doesn't hurt either.

Plus, she's loaded with accessories. I just wish she had a rifle too. But that'll be easy enough to amend.

I really wanted the PF because she's not jointed and the shorts outfit just looks so good on her. I will have the PF for that outfit and then the 12" for the other one.

So why is it you prefer the 12"?

Ditto, I originally had the PF on order. But I always told myself if they make a 12" Croft, then the PF is getting canceled. And that is exactly while I wished for a 12" Lara.
