First one unveiled on IndyShop. A 10x21" Giclee on canvas called "If Adventure Has A Name" by Eric Tan:

http://shop.indianajones.com/kernel/imageload?table=cat_images;ttl2=15;key1=1220082_im g1;key2=-100_img1.gif

Very cool! :rock I love the retro "propaganda" style. Not sure if the $150 asking price rocks my world, though. But it is limited to only 195 prints: http://shop.indianajones.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=1220082;category_id=;pcid1= ;pcid2=

Of course I just ordered one. :monkey3

I love it but not the pricetag.....:(

IrishJedi
04-03-2008, 12:03 PM
Yeah, the price made me seriously balk. But then I noticed the limited run of 195 and the fact that it's printed on canvas, so I took the plunge. I suppose I can always cancel in the next month or so, though.

In any case, it's a great-looking piece. I like both the idea/style and the execution.

By the way, if the bronze-plated statue were from RAIDERS, how cool would it look displayed in front of this? :horror

The Josh

I like it! I ordered one. I hope it is on canvas, although it does say in the more detailed description that it's on paper. If indeed it is on canvas, this is a good price for such a limited piece.

I've been waiting for the artwork to start showing up.

I'm looking at the others. I like the Brian Rood piece as well. Good likeness of Harrison. If it's still available a bit down the road, I might pick that one up as well.

http://shop.indianajones.com/kernel/imageload?table=cat_images;ttl2=15;key1=1220074_im g1;key2=-100_img1.gif

This fine art Giclee on paper features an introspective Indy with what may be the "shadowy reflection" Belloq observes of his adversary in Raiders of the Lost Ark. A beautiful, insightful piece, and worthy addition to any Indiana Jones collection. Each print is hand numbered and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

I have seen several Sideshow products a Star Wars Shop in the past. Right now they have two pages of results if you type "Sideshow" in the search box. 12" figures, PFs and dioramas. But I didn't see the 12" Indy figure at the new Indy shop.

Ok, weird... I guess I've nevered searched for them, but I know the only one I ever remember seeing on their pages was the Vader PF shared exclusive. I guess I need to look harder... :D

Between charging full MSRP and their terrible shipping rates, I don't think Star Wars Shop offers a very compelling reason to purchase from them. If you are going to get a regular version from a retailer, you are going to want a nice discount. I wouldn't every buy anything from them when there are so many other options to get the same stuff for less.

I'm sure we'll be seeing more artwork as time goes by. I hope Jerry gets the approval to make Indy lithos. I like his LOTR work, just can't buy everything. But I would collect his Indy work for sure. Also, I hope Dave Dorman does some more Indy artwork. I have the Thunder in the Orient piece he did and it's one of my favs.

Yeah, I checked with Morly. Here is his response:

"Yeah, looks like a typo on the site. It is on paper and we'll let them know to fix that!"

Canvas pieces are pretty pricey. If this was on canvas, it probably would have been at least double the price.

Canvas pieces are pretty pricey. If this was on canvas, it probably would have been at least double the price.

Well, one of the canvas pieces is $295. HOWEVER... it's significantly bigger in size (20x30 as opposed to 10x21) and in a more limited run. Also, the other ones printed on paper are cheaper (and bigger). Given that, the price on this piece is hard to reconcile. I will cancel if it's indeed not canvas (or if the price is somehow wrong).

Here is a bit about the poster from Eric Tan's blog (http://erictanart.blogspot.com/).

"I finally finished up that Indy piece for Acme Archives. My idea here was to create something that looked as if it came out when the movie took place, circa 1936. I was heavily influenced by Mexican film posters from the 30's & 40's. They had that western/dramatic/action feel nailed down. Check out that Cine Mexicano book if you can. Them dudes sure knew what they were doing way back when."

Character keys aren't supposed to capture the actor. At least I don't think so. :lol They're just goofy things to collect. No more worse than Adventure Heroes or Galactic Heroes.

I could see that, but moreso than previous keys its hard to separate the actor from the character.

Especially when there's not actual animation that its based off of.

IrishJedi
04-04-2008, 09:09 PM
There's no actual animated basis for many of the SW character keys, either. Like Gentle Giant, ACME started with the Animated Clone Wars and then got carried away (i.e. greedy) with the concept. Like many other things these days, it started out as something very cool and different but is now overdone and exploited.

tomandshell

I got out a tape measure and marked out the exact size of the retro poster. On paper and at that size, it's way too expensive. I am debating whether or not to cancel.

I don't get the 50% increase in price compared to the other two similarly sized paper prints.

Exactly. That's why I am likely cancelling too since it's apparently not on cavas.

Oh I know, they made sense with the Clone Wars... kinda okay to branch out with other SW. Then it just (to me) got ridiculous... now it seems every other property is animated, bleh :lol

It is a great looking piece, and I'm sure it will hold its value. Plus Raiders - in my opinion - had the worst posters of any of the movies; we might look back on them fondly now but at the time I didn't feel it captured the spirit of the movie at all. I thought it was a Western from the poster! So even though it was expensive you do own by far the coolest poster ever produced for one of the coolest movies of all time.

My favourite of the originals is the TOD poster showing Indy between two pillars.

Yeah, that's made from one of the resin kits you can find at cons for around $30. From the close-up of the back it appears as if they didn't bother cleaning it up much at all before painting it.

I have one of the same kits and it took a good bit of work to get it cleaned up enough to paint.

I have the SW Tarkin and Sandtrooper character keys. I like them quite a bit. They are fun representations of the characters and I like the animated designs. I have them displayed behind my Vader and Stormtrooper/Shadowtrooper maquettes and the set-up looks good.

GG did say that maquettes were part of the plan for Indy products. So I'd would expect at least a few core characters from the films.

On another note, my KOTCS regular one-sheet has shipped from SW shop.

And I love that Raiders print. That would be something I'd buy in a hearbeat.

I had the art professionally photographed, but it really would do well with a better, sharper pic to work with. Some of the colors look a little drained from the final product. I've modified it here a little, with a new high-rez scan of the RAIDERS logo:

Hey Adam! Cool to see you here. :)

A someone who owns a 24x36 print of this piece, I can honestly say that you are being modest. This thing is awesome and easily on par with Matt's "Circus ROTS" poster as a true homage to Struzan's original SW piece.

I'm moving soon, and when I do I will have this framed and displayed with the others. I'll share some pics. :rock

I completely agree. I thought the print was just beautiful. I'm waiting for Jerry to make Indy lithos, much like his LOTR prints.

Speaking of ACME prints, I did pick up the "Escape from Athens Tomb" print at SDCC with the intention of displaying it next to Dorman's "Thunder in the Orient." I also came across a nice Jason Palmer Indy piece.

UPDATE 1/15/2010: To fulfill a new year's resolution, I decided to do some touchup work on this poster.

First and foremost, I was never quite happy with the way I painted Indy and (especially) Marion. I figured since I had already invested so much time on this piece, doing a little more to finally get it right would make all the difference. And so, after a few hours of digitally tinkering in Photoshop, I made some significant changes to their faces.

http://adammcdaniel.com/IndyMarionComparisonAfter.jpg

But why stop there? Since the painting depicted a wall of assorted pictures, like a bulletin board, I thought it'd be fun to include references to the other films in the series...

Hello, I thought I would add an image of my framed set. I was lucky in that I stumbled on these at SDCC 2008, having never heard of Acme, just not something I paid much attention to. Fell in love there, got the con discount I believe and picked up the TLC when it came out. Obviously I went with a simple frame and mat, not sure the colors of the three prints allow much experimentation with mats because they are similar hues but also very different. This hangs in my office and people love it.

Also, I read that they had some things at SDCC last year: Marion character key and an Ark specplate . Did these items get released? I can't seem to find any info on them.
