Raiders, followed very closely by Last Crusade, and bringing up the rear is Temple of Doom, and after watching it again last night, isa definantly the weakest of the three. The plot is razor thin, and ultimately unsatisfying.

I like LC the most followed very closely by ROTLA and then TOD.

Raiders, just the right mix of action, humor and drama. ToD is a close second, and TLC a distant third.

Ouch! :lol
Seriously, though... such a poll isn't even fair. As much as I enjoy all of the INDY flicks so far (though TOD more than TLC) it's clearly RAIDERS that is the untouchable of the lot. It's not only the best film of this series, I'd go so far to argue that it's the best film of its kind, period.
RAIDERS is flawless to the point where one could call it the perfect action-adventure film. So it's not only the obvious flagship of this series, it's the pinnacle of an entire genre of film.

ROTLA, LC then TOD. I really enjoy them all very much. there's no drop off in difference like TPM is from any of the OT films.

I watched TOD the other day after reading some of your flag waving Irish, and thought it was time to watch it again, but it was about the same as I remember it.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching it, many scenes are iconic and fantastic, but it's too uneven and has very annoying, juvenile parts. I can see why Speilberg said he had to apologize for it. As goofy as TLC is in spots, and a bit of a rehash of Raiders, it's narrative has better flow and doesn't have the infuriating bits, plus it's got Nazis and WWII stuff, and I enjoyed them fleshing out Indy as a character which TOD certainly lacked.

The thing about "Temple of Doom" is that its annoying and juvenile bits are actually the aspects that are most like the 30's serials that inspired the series. And I like that about it a lot. It also seems like a much more honest movie to me, wheras "Last Crusade" was a safe return to basic a formula and relies too heavily on comic relief (much more so than any of the other films in the series).
Still, I don't dislike any of them. And of course it's all in the eyes of the beholder with varied mileage. :duff

I completely agree with Irish! The first time I saw Raiders when I was 10 years old, it made a HUGE impression upon me just like the first Star Wars!
Raiders IS the standard that action movies try to live up to, and most all of them fail to come even close! Spielberg's masterful direction, John Williams' stirring and incredible musical score, Harrison Ford's top-notch acting and all the other facts I don't mention add up to one of the single BEST movies ever made! :D

That's cool. Hadn't really looked at those parts as throw backs to the serials, but I can see that. And agreed about the comic stuff in TLC, they definitely played that stuff up, probably as a reaction to the darker TOD stuff, but for the most part it seemed like natural comic business coming from characters rather than forced slapstick or sight gags like the TOD dinner sequence. Thankfully no SW PT farting camels or such infected this series, and hopefully Speilberg will keep it out of KotCS as well.

while I like all 3 films in their own way, I'd have to say Raiders is by far the best of the 3. Last Crusade 2nd and Temple of Doom 3rd.

They're all my favorites, but here's my line up:
1. Temple of Doom (it was the first one I saw and the one that made me fall in love with the whole concept. It also has gags and scenes that I find funnier than many of the gags in the other films along with action sequences that really are incredible. And I do agree with all of you on the flaws and shortcomings. It doesn't have a great ending. They're still in the middle of nowhere and dirty as hell... but what a fun trek it was.
2. Raiders of the Lost Ark. Great. What else can I say?
3. Last Crusade. Well, it's enjoyable but definitely "safer" as a film. But it completely turned Brody into a ham which was funny growing up but now when I see Raiders and then Last Crusade, it just comes off as... awkward? I think the Father Son elements were what really makes the film and I honestly don't see how else they could have done it any better. Very entertaining but the action never resonated with me as much as the previous two did.

Has, Was, Is and will always be Temple of Doom for me. Yes it has it's childish moments but it's also creepily dark. I mean the villian RIPS OUT PEOPLE'S HEARTS! It doesn't get more bad *** than that... :rock2

It's a close call between Raiders and Crusade for me. Sure, the adventure element in Raiders is much better, but there are a couple of really bad performances in it (the guy who translates the headpiece for the staff for example). Crusade's actors are generally just better. (TOD has so many bad acting jobs in it, it falls right to the bottom of the heap)

i like TLC. gotta love Dr. Jones Sr. but i gotta give props to temple of doom for the same reason i voted for alien in that other thread. i watched it as a young lad and that scene where that guy got his heart ripped out warped me for life. so once again "thanks mom. thanks dad.:wave thanks for not screening what i watched." :lol

Raiders, without question.

Last Crusade, hands down. I always felt it was the only movie with a heart, the only one that went beyond the adventures and the action. Raiders has always been too dry for me, and Temple of Doom was very contrived. For me, The Last Crusade actually had some depth and tenderness, which I always prefer, and that's all due to the interaction between Indy and his father, which is one of the best dynamics you can find in any film between two characters.

I've always loved TOD best. I love the way Indy is portayed against Willie and Short Round was a great sidekick. It was a much more simple story compared to the others and more like how I felt the adventure serials ought to be that Lucas was going for. Plus the fantasy black-magic element made it more interesting and creepy than the Nazis.
Raiders was great but didnt have the same pace as TOD I thought and Last Crusade was just Nazis again.

Funny, I've never really liked Raiders--too boring for me. My list goes Crusade (best one ever!), Temple, and then Raiders a bit behind them. It just doesn't have any characters that I really love, whereas Crusade has Henry Sr. (my favorite of all) and Temple has Short Round (my next favorite after him). I never thought Indy worked well alone as a character; he needs somebody to play off of, and there isn't anybody like that in Raiders for me. That's why Indy is actually my 3rd favorite character without one of the other two to work with.
Of course, to each his own; I'm not saying that's the way it is--it's just the way I see it.

Last Crusade is my favorite, followed very closely by Raiders. Temple of Doom, though great, is a very distant third.
I know that some don't appreciate it, but the humor in Last Crusade is just so perfect that it edges out the nearly equally awesome original film.

Im going to have to go with Raiders, Last Crusade, then Temple of Doom, I just didnt particularly care for Shortround, a nattering, annoying, sidekick, and I was glad he wasnt in Last Crusade.
All were excellent movies, just ToD wasnt quite as excellent as the others :-)

Ya know,I just got the box set recently and I had only seen TOD once, and that was back when it first came out. Anyways, I just got through watching it for the first time in over 20 years and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. I personally did not find Short Round annoying at all and only found Willie slightly annoying. Her frizzy hair annoyed me the most.:lol It really is a throwback to the old serials, but I guess you could say that about all of them.
The mine chase is awesome and it has alot of great moments. I really like the whole scene between Willie and Jones and Short Round when they are under the Temple/Palace with all the bugs and about to get spiked by the ceiling.Great stuff. My personal favorite is Raiders, but yeah I like them all.I hope the new one will be as good as the original three. Can't wait till May 22nd.:D

I just popped "Raiders" into the DVD player now. As for my favorite, I love all three but I enjoy Raiders the most I guess. I am so glad that they only changed the title for the DVD cover(Indiana Jones and the Raiders...) whereas the movie itself is still called "Raiders of the Lost Ark".
