Top marks for originality and display value.

I actually like this, too. A lot of people don't... claiming it's "too busy". But I get what Kotobukiya is trying to do with this piece and I'll probably pick it up.
By the way, they're also doing one for TEMPLE OF DOOM as well as LAST CRUSADE.

"Too busy" is what Indiana Jones is all about. Not something I would buy, but it's a cool piece.

Agreed. And the Forrestal corpse is such a great touch. :rock

I was hoping they would. Depending on how the next one looks, I might pick this up. All I really planned on getting from any Indy line was props (which aren't happening :monkey4), a PF or 1:1 bust (depending on the likeness and funds), and maybe a 1/6 figure (Medicom, unless HT does something better). This may change that, as it's sort of a pleasant surprise. It's just unique, which we don't see enough of these days.

Actually, INDY props are in the works (I have it on good authority that something will be announced at or around SDCC, if not before) we just won't get anything in time for this Summer's INDY festivities. :(
It's just unique, which we don't see enough of these days.
Again, I agree with that 100%. Koto gets marks for this piece on uniqueness alone.

I do like that. Not sure I'll buy it but ya never know.

But why is the corpse so big?
All in all this is a very nice piece.

But why is the corpse so big?
Because it's not supposed to be in-scale. It's basically a 3-D montage of the opening sequence. Notice the size difference between the Fertility Idol at top and the one that Indy is holding.

I don't expect it to be in scale, know that's not what they were going for, but the large corpse throws off the the forced perspective and depth of the rolling boulder for me somewhat.

I just don't dig it... well done, but for me too much is going on and it comes of a bit goofy. But definitely high marks for creativity.

Yep, I agree, pretty creative but I don't like the design.

This is the ArtFX theatre that Koto is very big on - we'll be seeing them for Star Wars and Marvel as well.
I have to say I'm in the "too busy" school. It looks more cluttered than anything else and if it's supposed to represent a specific scene - what's with the grail as a base?

Goofy is the word that nails it for me as well.
Interesting-- but it doesn't speak to me.

$120. But it's vinyl.

03-23-2008, 05:00 PM
That doesn't seem to high, there's a lot of work that would go into sculpting it... not to mention getting the paint to look good. How does the likeness of Jones look? I've full piece images so far, no close-ups.

I always wondered how you could possibly pull off the boulder scene. I think they tackled it in a creative way and it's an overall success I'd say.

Not to bad then. Might have to rethink this.

For anyone who ever bought some Koto stuff, you know they made of the cheapest plastic ever....:monkey4...I'd buy from an american company.

I'll agree with the too busy comment, but it is Kotos style. Much like the Wolverine and Marvel maquettes that they released last year.
I'll give them points for being different! :D

I don't think that's suppposed to be the grail, actually. But I can see where some would think that. It's an odd design choice, for sure.

I dig it a lot, but not for $120. The montage of the opening scene really brings the scene to mind when I look at it. If it was about half the price, I would think about getting it.

I still don't care for it. And it's far from the best thing to come out of the Indy license.

I will probably take a closer look at the actual item when it is released and if I like it, I will just buy it.
I am quite okay with Kotobukiya's ArtFx items. I have 10 of them, all from the SW series.

An interesting piece but really not for me... Are you getting one Irish?
IrishJedi
03-26-2008, 11:36 AM
Eh... not really sure, to be honest. I can get one for around $100 shipped but I'm on the fence with this piece. I really like Koto going outside the box, and I get what they're trying to do here. Just not sure if I will want to add it to the collection or not. Plus, if I do I know I will have to get the "Temple of Doom" and "Last Crusade" ones as well. :monkey1

Not yet. They announced their intentions to do one for each film (not sure if that includes "Crystal Skull", though) at Toy Fair but no photos as yet.

If this wasn't so busy looking, I'd get one. I think the sculpt detail is really nice.

Indy's sculpt looks pretty good considering the scale as well... paint seems a little sloppy. But hard to say how it would be better or worse on the production pieces.

It does include Crystal Skull but no pics so far of any of the others.
