SDCC?? If it isn't shown off until then in the beginning of Q3 then it won"t hit until Q1 at thr earliest. I'd be seriously surprised if they waited that long.....what are the odds its not from Raiders??

The first PF is the RAIDERS Indy, unless plans have changed. But that is what I was told as far back as SDCC last year. Also, note that the Fertility Idol is one of the accessories. It's definitely from RAIDERS.

You just brought up something many of us have actually forgotten about: SSC is also working on 1:1 Indy Bust. Perhaps THAT will be the big Indy item they will unveil at SDCC. But I really think we'll see the PF long before then, and it will probably be up for pre-order well before SDCC as well.

Yeah, I expect the PF to go up closer to the movie not SDCC. Now, I could see them doing a SDCC Ex Indy 1:6th which would be cool.

Is the Indy bust going to be the one we've seen for awhile... can't remember the sculptor, or something completely new?

Also, I'm surprised we haven't seen the PF yet... during the Toy Fair Chat they all but said he was right around the corner.

Is the Indy bust going to be the one we've seen for awhile... can't remember the sculptor, or something completely new?

You're referring to the Howard S. Studios bust. The Sideshow release will almost certainly be a completely separate and new sculpt... especially since the unpainted Howard S. one was recently sold on eBay.

Also, I'm surprised we haven't seen the PF yet... during the Toy Fair Chat they all but said he was right around the corner.

Exactly. I expect it any time now. Hence this thread. Every Newsletter that is released or every new Production Blog has me hoping...

I can't wait for a double-whammy... An Indy PF from RAIDERS and an Indy PF from DOOM! I've made the call--

An Indy from the opening action scene of RAIDERS (not as boring as this but it was the first one I found after a quick google)

http://www.dvdtown.com/images/displayimage.php?id=2399

AND an Indy from the end of DOOM

Is Trev aloud to say it's his work?

Often times you work under NDAs (Non-Disclosure Agreements) and are not allowed to say anything officially about upcoming products until a certain date (and sometimes beyond that). This is standard practice throughout the industry, particularly when dealing with big-ticket licensed items.

Trev was just being modest, I think he's allowed to comment on what pieces he's worked on as long as he's not announcing a new product by doing so (that privelage is exclusive to Sideshow's uber staff). I just take delight in being his No. 1 fan. :D

And yes, I'm a Trevor Grove stalker and proud of it. I make no apologies. I keep trying to get him to adopt me but evidently he finds the notion a little creepy. I just had matching cowboy hats embroidered with our initials (by the way Trev, I keep getting your hat back in the mail with "Return to Sender" stamped in bold on the package.... There's obviously some kind of problem with your post office, I'll give 'em a call). Trevor is a bright, shining, golden God. He completes me.

Toy/Statue/High-End Collecting is at an all-time high in popularity at this time. Aside from toys, statues, etc. being accessible from multiple outlets, they also are becoming more availible in paints that look great from the factory. Not to mention that more companies are doing them.

The fanbase for these licensed collectibles has also grown up...instead of the little Indy figures they had as a kid, they instead want the 12'' high-end figure or a statue of their hero. The market has grown just like their customers and ToyFare sees that as well.

I'd grant that, but before that they used to cover Sideshow and other 1/6 companies... then all of the sudden the stopped. And then 2 or so years later they picked back up again. Actually when they weren't covering them was probably when 1/6 stuff was most readily available.

BTW, I may have missed it, but is this for sure from Raiders... or could it be from one of the films?

Hey Trev. Are you happy with the sculpt? How does it stack up to your 1/6 th Indy or Han portrait in your eyes?

I'm very eager to see what the stance is. How was it arrived at? Is it something you and the SS brass talked about or did they tell you what stance they wanted?

I'm sure this will be a phenomenal work of art when we finally see it and get it in our hands. Can't wait! http://raven.theraider.net/images/smilies/whip.gif

Ultimately its Sideshow's piece, so their direction is followed as closely as possible. But A sculptor gets to play around and bring their own input to the table, which is really nice for us. I can hardly function without art direction... I can't make up my own mind when I'm given too much free reign.

This is my best attempt at Harrison. The only portrait I've done of him so far that I've been happy with the end result. Not 100% happy, but....how could I ever be 100% happy with my work?! :) hehheh! It's sort of the culmination of my years of fandom... Or at least, so I feel.

I doubt it will hit the newsstands this weekend (though I suppose a few stores may sporadically get it in and put it out early). The Wizard publications are usually pretty solid on debuting on a specific Wednesday each month at comic shops first.

HOWEVER... subscribers' copies are usually mailed in advance so that we receive them around the same date. Often that means they come in a few days early. So chances are someone will get their copy in the mail soon (perhaps as early as today or tomorrow) and scans will appear online.

In other words, I'd be pretty surprised if we have to wait until Wednesday to see this. I'll definitely be checking my mailbox for it between now and Wednesday. :joy

It used to be that you could get 5-6 12" for the price of a PF, so I'd go the 12" route.

Things have changes and owning 1 PF might be more desirable than the 4 12"s you can get these days.

I agree with that. 2 $150 medicom pieces=$300 or Indy PF=$350 (guessing), I'd take the PF any day.

As it is, I'm not touching the Medicoms at all at that price. Its just whether I want to keep the 12" SSC line or do PF.

There is something to say about collecting the 12"ers though in that we are bound to get a good selection of characters that PF won't.

I have gone that route in the past.
Started buying all kinds of PF, but they take a lot of space (I owned over 20 PF's) and you have much more diversity in the 12" lines.

I like to fill a Detolf with some 12"s and a top a nice PF or Life-Size bust.

Personally I'm not interested in PF figures, not even of Indy (and I'm a pretty big Indy collector from the Kenner line onwards). I just prefer toys, stuff I can pick up and pose. So it's actually quite nice to know something expensive is being produced that I don't want!

I’m in and can’t wait to get this one in hand. But I have to agree on the sculpt. The Han Solo PF was disappointing. I think you're forgetting jacket and hat (way more complicated than any Star Wars PF - especially if done with leather and a real fabric hat). Along with the licensing cost its going to make this baby expensive...

EDIT - sorry that wasn't clear --- you can only compare this to SW since the licensing costs will be similar

$349 seems about right to me too. I just hope the exclusive is something cooler than the torch and dart the 12" comes with.

I thought the exclusive was a 1:4 scale golden idol. Seems like it was referenced in a recent interview or podcast, etc.

I would be very surprised if this was $275. My guess is minimum $300, but more like $350.

Cinemaquette didn't give Captain Jack his trademark hat, right? Maybe Sideshow will make the same mistake with Indy.

I didn't realize that Anakin was $300... so I guess he could be that much. But again, Wayne has a leather Jacket and googles, so I think there are some similarities there in terms of complexity.

I'm still gonna guess $275, but its okay since I'm not getting him anyway :lol

I am also going to guess around $325-350. Bot not because Sideshow just thinks they can get away with it--I think that the licensing costs, quality of the figure and materials used, R&D, etc. will all work together to justify the price.

Absolutely :lecture

Ok, so Ill ask the next obvious question...

Do the Indy PF's go up in value on the secondary market (a la MARVEL) or are they going to fare closer to STAR WARS PFs?

Somebody had to ask it

I really hope that it is the exclusive, as it would be a very cool one. But if it is where would the idol sit? Maybe the pedestal as the exclusive? A separate idol grasping hand for Indy?

tomandshell
04-04-2008, 06:50 PM
Not that I can think of, but maybe the idol is just part of a more elaborate than usual base.

I do think it's the exclusive, though--but I hope it's not just a totally separate thing that sits on the ground next to the PF. It needs a mini base of its own, like the Vader helmet, etc.

That's what I was thinking. If the Idol is the exclusive then it needs a separate pedestal for display, like the one that the Doom PF cup sits on.

Entropy Chicken
04-04-2008, 06:59 PM
It'd be nice if the pose lends itself to Indy contemplating the idol rather than it just sitting off by itself somewhere. That's why I think interchangeable hands could work, one holding the idol, another holding the pistol.

Something tells me that there will not. Typically, having a variety of display options is more for 12" figures, and PFs are meant for the most iconic representation possible--which in this case means a hat.

Entropy Chicken
04-04-2008, 11:43 PM
I predict the hat as part of the sculpt. I hope I'm pleasantly surprised though and they figure out how to make a removable hat look good in this scale or go the 2 heads route.

Entropy Chicken

Thanks Josh!

I really can't think of many exclusives that would make sense for the Indy PF.
Since it's a static pose, it would have to be something that would work with the stance such as a head or hand swap or a separate stand alone accessory.

I thought about an 'action' whip or Indy's other gun but they really don't seem that practical or that great of exclusives.

tomandshell
04-05-2008, 01:10 AM
Indy never really had the chance to stand around and pose while holding the idol and looking casually heroic, so those wanting a screen accurate figure might not like the traditional non-dynamic PF pose with the idol in hand (mixing iconic pose with screen/scene specific prop). The PF is also still carrying the "sand bag" so it seems that he has yet to swap it for the idol. The pedestal holding the idol would be too large, much like the Mirror of Galadriel that never saw the light of day.

I'm not sure what they have in store for us...

Entropy Chicken

I wonder if the larger size will allow for a removable hat?

Sculpted hair is sculpted hair - with a removeable hat he'll either look bigheaded with the hat on, or the hair will be shaped funny when he has it off. I say, no to the removeable hat.

Trev said that the pose is "reminiscent of what you're all familiar with, but not [scene] specific by any means. a tribute is a nice way to put it." So I could see Indy holding the idol casually in a way he did not in the film. At any rate it sounds like we won't get a 100% screen accurate pose which is ok by me.

I'm thinking that it would be possible. Really with a hat like that there the fit can't be too much associated with it sqeezing around the hair. A helmet yes, but this is a simple hat, and at a larger scale they could probably make a sort of cloth hat that would fit tightly to a sculpted head.

Sandindy
04-05-2008, 04:47 AM
The Medicom Toys version of Indy has the removable hat but the hat looks large or something, I like what Sideshow did with the 12 inch it makes his hat/head more proportionate.

I believe the Thing PF has 2, and the Anakin PF has a regular and exclusive head.

The only reason the figure has 2 though is because they felt it would look more realistic for the hat to be molded as part of the head than to make one head with a wearable hat due to the limits of the scale.
