My absolute favorites are:

Apocalypse Now
Saving Private Ryan
M*A*S*H
Full Metal Jacket

I'd also include Catch-22, Platoon, The Great Escape, Three Kings, Black Hawk Down, Kelly's Heroes, The Deer Hunter, Flags of Our Fathers, Letters from Iwo Jima and so many more. I would NOT include Pearl Harbor. :monkey4

BTW, I have a friend who absolutely hates The Deer Hunter. Sometimes I mention it just to hear him rant about how much he hates it. :lol That's what got me thinking about my favorites.

In no real order

Platoon
Apocalypse Now
Saving Private Ryan
Full Metal Jacket
Missing in Action 2 ( actually set during the war about being a POW )

I liked Black Hawk Down, but that movie actually made me ANGRY to watch. What happened there....nevermind.

Great thread.

Guns of Navarrone
Bridge on the River Kawaii
Letters of Iwo Jima
Plattoon
Apocalypse Now
Saving Private Ryan
Thin Red Line
Patton
Full Metal Jacket
The Longest Day
Stalingrad (German)
Enemy at the Gate
Das Boot
Tora!Tora!Tora!
The Battle of the Bulge
Where Eagles Dare
The Devil's Brigade

and others I can't think right now

Does this only include modern military ie WWI, II, etc or can we go way back?
Modern military:
Enemy at the Gates
Saving private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
Crimson Tide

This was a show: Tour of Duty

Way back:
Glory
Braveheart
300
Troy
The Messenger

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned, but there are a couple I'd add to the list...

All Quiet on the Western Front
Cross of Iron
Twelve O'clock High
Sands of Iwo Jima
The Eagle Has Landed
Hamburger Hill

I'm sure there are others that I don't recall right now.

The Deerhunter
Best Years of Our Lives
Johnny Got His Gun
What Did You Do In The War Daddy?

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned but its interesting to see that the title "War Movies" instinctively brought on more responses aimed at Modern Military films and not anything that dealt with War....I'm wondering when we'll see the first "Star Wars" entry?

Here's a pretty decent list:

And it's the feature article in a new magazine (which I saw at Barnes & Noble this past week):

Re: SCHINDLER'S LIST, I think my Dad said it best. After we saw the movie theatrically in 1993 he told me, "That was the best movie I have ever seen. And I never want to see it again."
