were you able to pull any info from it afterwards...?
the HD in my desktop started making some clicking noises on Thursday afternoon, and froze up... when i went to reboot it, Windows would not load up, and it would make the clicking noises from time to time...
this being my first experience with a busted HD, i tried rebooting the system about 10 different ways... i then called Dell Tech Support and they had me try to boot up using the Resource CD and then when that didn't work they had me run a Diagnostic on the HD... the HD failed basically...
The error i kept getting was "Unmountable Boot Volume"...
Anywho, I'm getting a new HD from Dell under warranty, and a tech is supposed to come out and install it for me...
Dell also gave me the number to Drive Savers, and said that they should be able to pull the files off the HD... I have over 1000 pics on it of my son, and i have to have them... but they quoted me a price of 1400-2400 for a recovery... that's damn insane, but i have to have the pics...
So before i drop that kinda money on the recovery, i am going to try and to recover some stuff myself... if i can get the pics, i'll be happy...
i'm going to get an external USB HD case, and try and hook it up to my laptop... another guy gave me a program "Easy Recovery 6" to try and recover the files from the HD...
Has anyone ever done this succesfully before...? am i risking more damage to the files by trying this myself...?
if i'm going to be paying $2000+, it seems almost silly to not even attempt it myself...
Any advice here would be appreciated...
