License and its a couple years later, everything is pricier. I'll either get it through a retailer (save 10%) or get it later on the secondary market. My guess is it will not hold that price after its been out for a few months.

That is my hope as well. I'm only gonna spring for one Goku, and at this point I'm still undecided. Classic or Super Saiyan. Wonder if they could make a Gohan in his purple get-up like the Yoda and Wicket they made. Anyway, here's hoping we get Vegeta!

I want this figure in the worst way but 174.99 is a little steep. I'm going to have to do some searching or else wait until the figure comes out and try to find it cheaper on the secondary market. I wish I had the dough, I would pre-order in a second.
Hopefully no one buys this figure and posts really great pics - that's my Kryptonite.

I'd rather pay another $25 and get the Hot Toy's Briareos or the Predalien. Hell, I think I can get a BD Ed-209 from CSC for $175.
If Medicom's Motoko were $150, I would say it's still a little steep. I think I gotta pass this time. But like piccolodaimaoh said, I hope no one buys her and takes awesome photos, or I'll buckle at the knees.

The Evangelion figures were only $115. But Motoko has atleast $60 more breasts than Rei and Asuka.
The pics won't load for me. Lame. Oh well. They wouldn't be enough to sell me on it anyway. She's way too much. I'd rather get Deunan.

I'm sur you're right G-boy, but given my Luck with RAH bodies, and the fact hat ther is no naked female body available on the secondary market, and SSC's phenominal customer service with breakage, I'll pay a few dollars extra, just to be safe :) :rock
And I've got the takara version, and a trenchcoat waiting for this version:)
Might put the takara jacket on her, see how it looks.

The Major is one of favorite anime characters and I for one, am glad it is from SAC! I will order this from a retailer, but the price is a bit steep... but it just goes to show that everyone is feeling the economic pinch of higher wages in China, higher oil prices, etc., not just Sideshow, so for everyone who complained about a $90 Gandalf... :monkey5

I'M NOT GONNA PAY ALOT FOR THIS MOTOKO!!!
A cool figure and a bit expensive... I think I'm getting it since I'm a huge Masamune Shirow and GITS fan - already have many Shirow figures from GITS, Appleseed (HT and Takara Appleseed on order), Intron Depot, Orion and Galhound. I only hope Motoko has a butt it seems the RAH females lack the dorsal part alas (see EVA Rei and Asuka) :lol

Ordered it after all, but not certain if I should keep it. It's just not 'the' Major Motoko Kusanagi. The S.A.C Motoko looks nothing like the original Motoko. There's very little left of the unmistakable character design of the original movie. Actually, there's nothing left of it. Different face, different hair, and different body proportions too. But I guess this Motoko is as close as we possibly get to the original. And yes, the price... $175. Time to check what else one could get for that money on the Sideshow site... or elseware!

lerath666
03-04-2008, 10:31 PM
Corse, to make it a proper shiro design, she needs very full, womanly, shapely legs, and we will need to polish te suit untill we can shave from the reflection.
And knowing medi, the suit is probobly NOT removeable.
Motoko from SAC has a really nice behind, why isn't Medicom making a proper one? Look at the cool Hot Toys Deunan, she looks great. Medicom already did something weird with Evangelion Rei and Asuka...

Lonnie is right. The S.A.C. Motoko IS thin. Just an other reason why Medicom should have gone with the original Motoko from GitS - check out the opening scene of that movie! But the real reason why I prefer her is her face. It's much more distinguished and recognizable, there's a certain style to it, the eyes, ... . Where as the S.A.C Motoko can be easily mistaken for some other Anime Heroine.

i never really liked the GiTS move, and from what I've heard, odly, shirow did not either, he felt, as do some fans, it was too different from the Manga, and the series is more true to his vison.
granted, i think he likes appleseed more overall though.
plasmid303
03-06-2008, 12:35 AM
I like the GitS manga, but there's something that could be said for how Oshii took the basic premise of the GitS manga and injected into it mood and spiritual ambiance. Of course, the manga and the film adaptation are two incredibly different beasts, but I always felt the film was much more cerebral and sophisticated, and the manga, while not any less so, suffered from a lot of what kills anime for me. It's hard to verbalize, but I find that a lot of anime and manga (even more prevalent today than 20 years ago) is too anime-ish, if you get my meaning. GitS Sac is good, but the "filler" episodes and secondary story arcs are often convoluted and honestly, I ++++ing hate those annoying, obnoxious Tachikomas (once again it touches upon the cutesy "anime-ness" I was speaking of earlier).
The original GitS is a masterpiece of anime art and pop culture. It's too bad it's follow up, Innocence, sucked.
The RAH Motoko is great, but it's not my favorite version of the character.

I watched the series first before anything, and that is the version I seem to like best... probably because it was my first introduction to the Major. Then I read the manga and really liked that as well, but found it oddly more humorous than the TV show of course. Finally got around to watching the first movie; I loved the movie, but wasn't particularly thrilled with her design and look in it. The Solid State Society movie is basically GITS:SAC version and that is what this RAH is actually based on, but I like her design just as well as in the series. The only thing I haven't seen is the second movie...
galactiboy
03-06-2008, 12:56 PM
I was supremely bored by the second movie... although I really loved the first one (one of the first Anime I ever watched). I like the series, although there are a few snoozer episodes... one the whole I really enjoyed them.

Here's another thought for everyone looking at the high price... people have mentioned the falling dollar but has anyone actually looked at the difference that makes? In June 2007, the exchange rate was .008 dollars to Yen; today, it is .0098 dollars to Yen. Doesn't sound like much right? On an average Medicom figure of 17,000 Yen, that is a difference of $30.60 price increase in only 9 months, and doesn't even account for all the other factors that actually make the cost of the figure higher in Japan to begin with.

yeah, i am feeling the same about the price. I know medi doesn't give that many accesories for their figures but this one really needs something to get people to buy it. A trench coat, an actual knife. (the knife on her back is not removable) heck, a lower price point like their dragon ball figures would do.

That, right there is just BS. There's no excuse for that. Especially at this price.
She looks great, but yeah the price is poo.
Maybe someday Hot Toys will have the Ghost in the Shell license as well, since both GITS and Appleseed are created by Masamune Shirow. Then I'm sure we'd have a great "Major" figure

Well, I'm kind of bittersweet on this one. I wanted it and had it pre-ordered, but cancelled it. I still want it, but agree that the price is just too high. Plus, I'm not a huge medicom fan. I have some of their stuff and it's not bad, but overall I find it more fragile and definitely not worth the higher prices. The big thing they have going for them is that they have some cool licenses. Their pretty much the only game around for Anime characters in the 1/6 articulated market.

Nice figure, but, and I know I am repeating myself, I personally think it's a tragedy that Medicom didn't go with Hiroyuki Okiura's original character design for the Ghost in the Shell Motoko. Okiura is an outstanding artist, having worked on milestones like Roujin Z, Ghost in the Shell and Jin-Roh. He's also did some work for Cowboy Bebop. I much more preferred his version of Motoko. SAC must be more popular I suppose. I only saw the first season, and kind of lost interest after that.

the movie version is definitely a very cool design, more mature and realistic looking. Outta the 2, I prefer this version not just because I really liked both season 1 and 2 of SAC, it is also more similar to the original ghost in the shell comic done by shirow. but hey, if medicom decides to do the movie version motoko, I'll probably get that too. the more the better. :D
Now when's Batou's gonna be made?

Nice looking figure. She needs a trench coat or leather jacket to complete the look though.

Agreed!!
Pros:
- the figure looks cool especially for a GITS fan
- very detailed head resembling Motoko
- no paint slops
- nice poseability
- easy to put on the hands
- nice removable pistol in the back holster
Cons:
- neck too long
- too few accessories
- knife not removable
- no butt
- the sewing of the suit is not what I really like
- the Seburo rifle is attached to her hand
- the gray suit is made of a very thin rubber material - I hope will resist in time

Yeah Iam still hoping for them to do the Motoko from the original GITS movie, which I enjoyed even more than the TV series. If they released that one, I would have snapped it up in a heart beat.

I wouldn't mind that at all. Unfortunately very few figures or statues of the original movie Motoko were made...
i wan one the looks just like the First movie. im not sure i like that super anime face on her.
The funny thing is that hardcore anime fans say that SAC Motoko doesn't look too "anime" like

After seeing your comparison pics, I'm definitely sure I like the SAC rendition of Motoko best. I loved the original movie, but after seeing it again some months back, there was such an emphasis on the stiff mannequin look to her.

Thanks for the review and pics jkno!
The attached hand to the rifle is puzzling, I would've preferred an extra rifle without the hand or at least make the hand removable some how.
I still wish I had the money for this, not quite as good as the Cool Girl version, but maybe the best 1:6 scale Anime looking version.

I'll be getting this figure when it eventually goes on sale. The list price for the figure was set higher than usual. I have a strong feeling it will go on sale now because of lack of interest because of the high price.

They should have, or at least a trench coat. The customization on this didn't cost much though. I bought the Black Canary Barbie figure for the jacket to put on Motoko and it actually fits better on Motoko and looks much better in person (the pics don't do the custom justice).

Inner neck diameter = 13mm, hole diameter = 4.5mm, outer neck depth (base of hole to the fringe collar thing) = 7-8mm,
Some points.. very good shoulder articulation has up/ down/front/back, rare in female figures (very limited in Hot Toy's Hot Angel, might be as good as Triad's new Eva), Has chest/waist articulation, impeded by the girdle like thingy,
no butt, but has very good range of hips articulation, much better the CG 2.0. Right hand removable from rifle, just disconnect the glue thumb at the second thumb joint, The hand is a 2 piece glued together, PVC-like.

Yes, just disconnect thumb (the glued part) to remove the "P90-like" rifle. There is a slight lighter shade of grey separating the 2 pieces of the hand (at approx the second thumb joint/glove & finger separation), thumb is attached to the middle finger
