Official release
Under a new licensing agreement announced today, Indiana Jones fans and collectors will see several new lines of collectibles in 2008 from Diamond Select Toys. Partnering with Lucas Licensing, a division of Lucasfilm Ltd., DST will design and manufacture large-scale roto figures along with bust banks, figural banks and feature banks, among other categories based on the rich and diverse Indiana Jones franchise!
The Indiana Jones Ultimate Quarter Scale line will include characters from all four feature films. Each figure will include cloth outfits and accessories as well as an authentic sound clip from the massive Indiana Jones franchise. This line of hyper-detailed and super poseable figures will begin this summer with Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones.
Additionally, DST will expand into new categories including banks based on fan-favorite characters and scenes with a variety of features. New lines of bust-style banks and unarticulated figural banks will begin in 2008, blending detailed action-packed sculpts with traditional bank designs. A companion line of feature banks will include everything from sound and voice effects to coin-activated motion features such as whip attacks and booby-traps from the iconic films!
So, we'll see 1/4 scale "talking" INDY figures as well. But if the Luke and Obi-Wan shown are any indication... :monkey4

I've seen the obi-wan and didn't rate it - where did you see the Luke?

There was a picture of the Jedi Luke one in that thread in the "Star Wars" Forum. It was HORRID. Let me check...

As expected.
I have no problem with it, especially since INDY hasn't been whored-out for 17 years straight now like SW has.

I saw these mentioned before, no interest. As like you said I'm sure they will be the same *cough-cough* quality as the Star Wars ones.

There will be an Indy. It's not ready and there were no photos allowed.
Don't judge by the Jedi Luke, They showed a Darth Maul, old Obi Wan and a Han in Hoth outfit that were beautiful.

Ya know, I used to think that the Medicom Luke looked like Eric Foreman, but I think DST actually did a better job of capturing Topher Grace's likeness :lol

I've seen a photo of the old Ben and that too was awful.

I think the clothes, body and hands looked good for Ben, but the sculpt had more of a Hasbro fell than High End. I think if the sculpts were better they'd be pretty nice, still an oddball scale for figures, but at least good looking. But with the the sculpts looking as they do I'm not impressed.

You'd think that they'd put out amazing sculpts for a line that's going to have difficulty penetrating a crowded market.

But a 18" Indy figure would be kinda neat.

If it's done well with a nice sculpt I'd definitely consider getting one... especially at the $75 price point.
Not holding my breath, though.

I'm really surprised at how thin LFL is laying the licenses now.....even in Star Wars's hayday they only allowed one company to make one scale of a particular item....now it seems that they are allowing a ton of different companies to make the same thing.

I don't really see this scale as posable. And the same price as the 1/6th version? I'm wondering who they think they're market is. At that price they'll have to sell twice as many units as SSC does in 1/6.

I imagine this will end up at shops like FYE and Spensers. So probably a bit wider of a brick and mortar sales and then all the usual on-line dealers. But to me they take up more space than the quality would allow.

Yeah, that and comic shops, who make up Diamond's real market base.

Man, I hate to admit but I had the same thought, that or some kind of paulsy... what's up with that? Looked like Luke had the same thing?!?
It looks pretty good if you were going for an 18" toy or maybe for a younger collector. But I just don't see $75 here... but with that kind of price I could see them ending up on clearance after awhile.

Obviously the Sideshow version is WAY better in every way, but I don't think the face sculpt is too terrible, compared to some. That hand is bizarre, though.

That kung-fu hand is more compelling evidence that DST is indeed using the pre-existing Bruce Lee body that Art Asylum developed. It's no wonder the price point is so low on these.

*shudder* thank the maker for Sideshow...
This thing makes the Hasbro one look like a high-end figure...
I have a bad feeling that we're seeing a little of the TPM syndrome here...everyone with a factory in China being granted a license to produce something from this property...flooding the market with TONS of crap...can the "applause" figures be far behind? Where's the talking bank? :lol

Good point, I figured it was the Lee body... no way DST would develop something that nice. But the hand is a kung-fu one isn't it :lol Oh man, they are so lame

I like how he is wearing his bag like a purse. And what is that thing hanging off of his backside? I am assuming it is a scabbard or something...it can't be his whip...maybe it's a tail? Also, that hat looks like the one that came with Johnny West back in the day. Come to think of it, the headsculpt almost looks ike Johnny West too ;-) I guess this is the reason Diamond Select didn't allow photography at Toyfair. Hopefully, these are just mock ups and the real thing will be better.

Looks pretty similar, but with some smoothing down of features and an added wrist cut. Do you know if that Lee pictured is a production piece or a prototype?

No they are a bit different, notice cut mid forearm on the new and no cut mid forearm on Lee. Also you an tell the sculpting (pretty sure) is a bit deeper on Lee's abs and more definition of his neck muscles, could be a paint effect, but it looks like sculpting is a bit different as well.
But that's why I asked if the Lee was a proto or production piece as those are details that could easily have changed. Although clearly if not exactly the same, they are related products. And it makes sense since DST took over Art Asylums lines.

Yeah, the 18" talking version just doesn't do it for me. But I'm sure it will make some people happy.
