From the latest Toy Fair Q&A:
Development is in progress on our upcoming Premium Format Indy, and he’s looking GREAT. There will be more 12-inch Indy figures, and a few surprises (perhaps even surprise imports), that we look forward to revealing sometime in the future. No set schedule for release yet, just stay tuned to those newsletters!
Hmm... does that mean INDY stuff from Hot Toys and/or Medicom is on the horizon as well?? :google

I may be mistaken. These are One Coin machine figures that are tiny and they are also made by Kotobukiya. Is there a chance SSC may be teaming up with Koto?

Yeah, those are trading figures... they might be teaming up, but I'm hoping it is something from Medicom like the VCD's or RAH.

I wondered about that statement as well, there could be a whole lot of different product from overseas. But honestly, when it comes a 1/6 Indy I really don't think any company's product could touch SSC. I just don't think he could be any better.

You haven't missed out on anything. First of all, you can still get on the waitlist for the exclusive, and I would still expect you to have a pretty good chance of getting it converted. Secondly, it's not like the exclusive items are that great, so why not just get the figure from another store and save some money?

I for one would like a Hot Toys Indy but really doubt that's in the future seeing how Sideshow worked with Hot Toys to create the new figure body, I'm sure they knew what the first figures they'd release it on would be, probably part of the reason the Indy preview has taken so long. I'm thinking it'll be more along the lines of the Kotobukiya statues.

Yeah, I put myself on the waitlist later that day. But if there are only 1500 to go around...
I want to buy a regular, but the cheapest I have found is $81.99. $8 price differential isn't very attractive.

Looks like we should expect 12" INDY figures from either Hot Toys or Medicom!
Here's what SideshowTom had to say in the new Tomart's:
Definitely! We'll be doing other versions from the other movies and other costumes that he wears. And you'll see other 12" Indiana Jones figures, not from Sideshow or Hasbro, on the Sideshow website, although I can't say from whom just yet. Fans of Indiana Jones and 1:6 scale will have plenty of opportunity to get their hands on the perfect Indiana Jones for their collection.

It's kind of strange that they would have competing versions of the same figure. They've done it before with something like Darth Maul, of course, but those releases were spaced very far apart.

Kidding. I'll take 'em both. I'll be very curious to see who does a better job.
I wish HT and SS would get in sync and not repeat the same character but fill out the line with as many different characters as possible.
I still hope Trev will do TOHT!

Honestly, this is no Medicom-bashing... but I really could not see them doing an Indy figure as good as either Sideshow or Hot Toys. It's just not at all something that is in their "wheel-house".
Hot Toys makes much more sense. Hoping it's them.

I don't disagree with that one bit. Medicom hasn't ventured far from their "look"...while Hot Toys is always taking it to the next level and Sideshow is stepping up their game with Prometheus and new licenses like Indy.
Hot Toys has some competition with Sideshow's Prometheus body.
However, it might come down to the in-hand, final production models and paint apps.

A year or two ago, the SS Indy would be a no brainer over the others since it would probably cost under 50 bucks as opposed to HT's 100. But since SS's Indy is almost 100 bucks already, and I can't imagine HT's being THAT much more expensive, I'll simply have to go with the best one.

Even if it was around 130, you could probably find it for a little cheaper if you look around. Even then, it won't be THAT much more expensive than the Sideshow fig, depending on the quality and accessories.
Say 100 bucks for a SS Indy and 140 for a Hot Toys one. Wait a second, 40 bucks is still 40 more bucks. Still I love the Indy character so much, that I'm just gonna have to choose the best one.

All these companies making the same items does indeed offer competition and benefits the consumer looking for something within that license, but every item that a company takes on means there is one less item they could be producing of something else.
I'd rather see one company, I don't care who, do Indy and the other do something like Ghostbusters or Firefly or Tron or classic films like Robin Hood, etc.

If Hot Toys made an Indy you'd be paying an extra $40 for what? That is the unknown quantity. The Prometheus body was a joint effort by Sideshow and Hot Toys, so the body would probably be the same. The new pics of the Indy prototype look like they have changed the paint, so that would probably be on par as well. Trev's sculpt is on, so I don't see how Yulli could do anything but match it. I really don't think I'd bother with a Hot Toys Indy. Sideshows is looking good now they fixed the paint. Enterbay's would be cool, but they say they aren't going to be doing it.
It's all guess work and high hopes, and what could 'imports' really mean, after all, Sideshow product is all imports from China, same as anyone else's.

The Armored Body and Child Body were a joint Hot Toys/Sideshow venture. The Prometheus is ALL Sideshow who claims they got some tips from Hot Toys and inspiration from other body styles (namely the VOLKS Neo-Guy)... I believe they mentioned this in the production blog or the chatroom session regarding it. Regardless, i clearly remember Sideshow claiming that Prometheus is all them.
Sideshow fixed their paint? I wish that was put on the newsletter as the top story. :monkey1 Sideshow has the biggest difference between prototype and production and thus far I have not seen any proof that Sideshow has "improved the paint" of their production models. I don't really know where you're getting that from.
I think the reason Hot Toys gets the advantage is paint applications is because they mold their heads in the proper flesh tone and apply what is necessary to bring out the sculpt. Early on they painted the WHOLE head and you'd get "Sideshow-like" paint jobs...I think they've backed off of that and either they do as I said and mold the heads in the proper color or apply such a thin layer that the sculpt really stands out beneath it.
Sideshow I believe does mold the head in flesh color, but they lay the paint on THICK for the skin tones and that really brings down the look of the sculpt beneath it. Perhaps they can learn some tips from Hot Toys.

The only thing that I can see Hot Toys doing better than Sideshow beyond a shadow of a doubt is in the costume. Sideshow's Indy looks AMAZING right now, and as far as accessories and sculpt go I don't think Hot Toys can improve on it to much.
The costume how ever would be 10 times better. HT costumes are near perfection. Sideshow's however often lack in quality.
I would like Hot Toys to release an Indy just for the sake of competition.

That's how I feel. SSC have shown a definite improvement recently, enough to make me rethink my position on them somewhat but they still have a long, long way to go before they reach the same level of consistency as Hot Toys. If the SSC Indy turns out good then so much the better but with their track record for production pieces not living up to the proto I'm going to wait until in hand pics are online before deciding whether to buy.

I really don't see HT doing the exact same thing SSC is doing. Medicom, maybe, but they had the SW license before SSC - Indy is fresh and new for everyone, so I can't imagine they'd cross over.

Medicom caters more to it's domestic market than over here, and I imagine Medicom IJ figures will do well overseas and get mixed feelings abroad.

They have their market over there and will sell some to them. I'll get Jones Sr for sure as it looks really nice, but that Indy just look awful though some of the Medi-World folks are busting a nut at how much better this Indy is than SS. :rotfl

Actually I think those pictures look pretty good. Aside from the Sideshow Indy, they're easily the best Indy figures that I've ever seen. I have no intention of buying them, though.
Thats the truth, if these came out a couple years ago I'd have been all over them. But, with Sideshow already blowing my mind they're an easy pass.
Also, I love Indy, but not enough to want to add this version.

I have to agree the old Toys McCoy figure had a better likeness to Ford than this, it looks more like Richard Dean Anderson to me. I'll stick with Sideshow, even if I have to repaint it'll still be the best out there unless maybe Hot Toys pops out of the woodwork with one

I think the Medicom still looks better (including the likeness) than the McCoy... but still overall not as good as SSC.

Who exactly is "busting a nut"? Get a clue man! :lol The Medi head sculpt is better but that's about it.

I'd go with the SS version myself, I don't think you can get much closer to 1981 Harrison Ford without digital scanning and a time machine.

Pretty much most of you Medifolks. :) I believe the only one who needs to get a clue are any of you Medifolks who think their sculpt is better. It just flat out isn't even close to be better. The extra goodies are the only thing you could even remotely say is better. The rest is finishing a distant second.

When you compare the sculpts painted or not to shots of Ford in Raiders it really is quite clear which sculpt is better. Now, if some want to go on their merry way feeling the opposite then hats fine but.............

Well that was fun, the other thread got locked while I was posting this...
One thing that I'm super excited about is Indy will be the first Prometheus figure... if he was on the Buck getting him would be bitter sweet. But with a new body, fantastic sculpt and tightening QC I think he will be very hard to beat.
Medicom (almost) always makes excellent figures, but their likenesses are usually a bit soft or stylized. I think both heads so far look very good, but at least to me Jones Sr looks like a cartoon and not a real person. Not enough texture and wrinkles to his face, and the simplified paint doesn't help.

Yep, I guess the pointless debate Medi vs. SS took over again...
The best thing about having different versions from different companies is that we get to pick the one we prefer, so it's better for the customer...and I for oone, am happy with that! :chew

Thats a tough one... I think if done right it could be awesome, but even when we have the two options (like Praji) the plastic usually works better in this scale.
I think the problem with Medicom's is they treat the hat like they treat belts... plastic w/ soft detail.

Right it would have to come out looking great to work. Praji's plastic hat does look better but I'm hoping this hat might be simplier.

Actually Prajj's cloth hat looks better to me. I'm hoping that SSC goes with the cloth for Dr. Jones Sr.

You actually have Praji already, right? So far in pictures the plastic looks better to me, but glad to hear you like the cloth in hand.

So have we gotten the official word on if these are the only 1/6 imports we'll be seeing or is a Hot Toys announcement coming?

No word yet, but I really doubt we'll see some from Hot Toys now. :monkey2
But don't worry! I'm sure Lucasfilm will let them make INDY Chubbys.
