I love the idea of some kind of map on the back with everyones names and Wetaholics Anonymous on the front with the Weta insect.
Glad to see there are as many like minded people out there.
I hope we can make this happen. I reckon you'd get comments from all over.

Whilst I'm throwing ideas out there. How about a fan based online SSW collectable website. It could be a way preserve some of the info that comes up through these discussions. As this site grows, threads get pushed back further and further. You could have pics of everyone's collections, news, and all the other things that would go along with a fan based site.

I hope it is alright to mention this sort of thing on this board. I'm not trying to step on anyones toes. I just love this board so much and would love to see it taken a step further. Also I'm not sure if someone has already made a site like this. If they have then my sorry. Give me a link and I'll be there.:) :)

Regarding a website with pics of everyone's collection - I proposed putting together a gallery here that would have links and/or pictures taken by fans but I didn't get much response. I'd be happy to set up this gallery, but if someone wants to start a website to do it, that's fine by me too.

I would love to send in some pics for a Wetaholics anonymous club gallery page, or whatever. It wont be set up for another month so til i get mved into the new house.

In the meantime. Cafepress sells shirts aline with custom made graphics that someone here can make. Dstephan can set it up, and make it so that the money earned off the shirts and even other products can go to the upkeep of the website and message board.

I would volunteer to help out and run a site, but my time is extremely limited, and my website experience is limited to Geocities pages. which is nice if your HTML illiterate like me.

but i have sold shirts, mugs, clocks, mosepades, and whatever else through cafepress and would reccomend them.

Hi!

It was first in late january this year that I became aware of the existence of the fantastic Statues of Weta; and that was by mere accident.
However, this means that it will cost me a whole lot of money to seize for example the Witch-King of Angmar statue, which definitily is one of my favorites.
The Balrog, on the other hand, is in my opinion to small! It should be captured in a 1:6 scale (like the Sauron Statue). Yes, I know it should have been big, heavy and very expensive, but I would gladly pay the amount of money that Weta had demanded for it.

Now to the subject: I'm located in Sweden.:D

Best regards!

Mikael

@big al: my bf is a Brummie :) and speaking of Tolkien......... it's a shame what Birmingham is NOT doing to promote the man's popularity. We went to see where he lived with his family for many years and they had only torn down the place 4-5 years ago and built -hold on to this- a car parking area for the tenants around there. Nothing whatsoever reminds of Tolkien. We only got to know this by asking one of the older people that live there. In fact, the only place they uphold is Sarehole Mill, which is closed around Xmas like 99% of all other sightseeing places, the only time we visit the area. :bang

Lotsa Mexicans here (AKA Melbournians for non Aussies).

All the Mexicans may have something to do with proximity to NZ gooball, but me thinks it may have more to do with the wonderful weather down here and the amount of time we spend indoors as a result :p

I know I will probably get roasted for this, but why have the English and Welsh members been listed under the UK and the Scottish members listed seperately under Scotland. Last time I checked, Scotland was still in the United Kingdom, despite the best efforts of John Swinney!:lol

If Scotland has been seperated then England and Wales should have it's own list or have all UK members listed under the UK.

You may feel this is a bit pedantic.8o

I was not denegrating your list in the slightest, but just wanted to help make it geographically accurate.8o

We are very proud of our independance in Scotland, but we are still part of the United Kingdom.:grouphug

There is a great misconception abroad that England is Britain and I was just trying to clarify because the list shows Scotland as being totally seperate from the UK.

No offence meant as I realise the effort put into creating and compling such a list and I think Morgoths Melkor over-reacted to the situation, as this was not critisism but an observation.

Old Mel eh! He did a great job of rewriting history to make his epic film. There are so many historical inacurracies in that film. We did get our freedom, but we are still British citizens.:D

Hi Goldberry,

In Oct., my husband I spent part of our honeymoon in Bavaria. Had to see Neuschwanstein of course, and spent a lovely night in Fussen. The next day, while driving up to Rothenburg, we stopped at the most beautiful Baroque church. Not too far from Fussen. I can't remember it's name! But it was surrounded by meadow and horses, and inside had the most incredible pink and grey marble columns. And lots of gold...
So unassuming from the outside, but walking inside the doors :eek

Okay, regarding sticking this. Too many stickies make for a disorderly page. Important information can get lost because people aren't looking at the sticky threads.

Let's have some ideas on how to remedy this - perhaps a forum that is just "about members" with the ebay id and this thread? I want to know what everybody wants, but I really want to decrease the amount of stickies in this thread.

gooball
04-16-2004, 11:03 PM
My suggestion is that you have one sticky thread, which is locked. In that thread you simply have links to the 'important' threads (the ones that are currently stickied).

This means that there will only ever be one sticky, but the important threads will still be easy to find. If there is something ultra-important, such as Sideshow going bankrupt (lol, you know what I mean) then an actual sticky could be made for that post.

My two cents, anyway. :hat

gooball
04-16-2004, 11:04 PM
p.s., in the above situation you'd probably also want to keep 'timely' threads sticky in their own right. An example is Sideshow asking for newsletter input.

David,

The new sticky format looks great, but when I click on the individual threads, I get "thread not found" on each one. :(

Thanks for the warm welcome!

darkknight nyc.. thanks for the info on Lasher33! Sounds great! I'm so glad to know that there is someone from my country with whom I cannot only share my 'polystone addiction', but who is also very helpful! :wave

Fubeca…. I think I can understand your problem. Some people simply don't like the polystones like we do. I suppose it would perhaps be a good idea to start introducing her to the good guys. Maybe you could start by pointing her to the more handsome guys like Aragorn or Boromir or Legolas. Maybe she could appreciate them. Tell her why you like these polystones so much. Highlight the excellent details, the beautiful paint, the lively or elegant pose, or whatever comes to mind. ;) Then introduce her slowly to the other good guys like Gandalf (he is one of my favorites, maybe she could come to like him as well), the Hobbits (they are cute), Elrond (noble and wise) and many of the other good ones. I know I prefer looking at the good guys in polystone. I'm less fond of the baddies like mean looking orcs (though one of my favorite baddies is still the balrog). :)

Hello everyone, my name is Mark and I'm Canada :wave

I wasn't sure where to post my introduction but anyways...
I found this board from the Sideshow Weta newsletter but lost the link and found it again (hooray!)

I'm a long time fan of Sideshow LOTR line but sadly I have none of their pieces save for the Smeagol statuette that came with the Extended Edition of the Two Towers (how sad is that?) The reason why I don't have any is that I kept holding buying anything, saying I'll get it next time or it'll be there for awhile... well, doing that wasn't a very good idea since some of the statues/busts I really wanted are long gone (Gandalf busts, Saruman statue to name a few) and I would have to pay a fortune on Ebay for them now.

Sorry for the long introduction, I'll shut up now.

btw, great board you guys have here and I hope I can be a productive member :)

jedimarkj: I'm pretty sure that I can get you a Saruman and a GtG bust. You can msg me if you're interested.

Angelica57: Welcome to the boards. Great to see another Dutchman er... DutchWOMAN :b I'm in the Alkmaar region, but visit the Rotterdam area quite often. B_Electronics is also from Rotterdam.
With all these Dutchies, perhaps it is time to set a meeting :yay
I'm quite sure the Belgians (Erickse?) and some German would be interested...
