I two wanted the crates! :monkey2 Still hate the new price point, but must admit this figure feels more worth it than Gandalf does.

I love it! Not the greatest exclusive... but he comes with so much other stuff it doesn't matter. And I like the jacket. It just needs a little more weathering.

And the new body with alternate head! :chew

(I wish we had a dancing Indy smilie.)

Yeah why no crates?
A crateless Jones?
That makes it an easy pass for $89.99

I really put the face sculpt to Harrison Ford being hard to capture, but you can't deny it is a nice Indy and worth the cash for everything he comes with. I mean..look at all the goodies, and the 40 POA body! Ding dong the Buck is dead!

They're calling it the "prometheus body" I can't wait to see a production blog showing it in more detail.

I gladly bought this one. It will be very hard to wait until 3rd quarter, but it'll be worth it.

Easy order on the phone. I'll only get one figure as I just want to display him with his hat on and I must be smarter about my orders. Though I might pick up a second later on. :lol He looks really good IMO.

He'll be a great figure, I was hoping for a $74.99 price tag, but with the new body, 2 heads, 8 hands and a crap load off accessories I can understand the increase.

Looks like some things are hitting the chopping block. Just don't know what.. but SS is official back in competition for best overall 1/6 company. Do they now have the most articulated body?

PS 10 away from 3k. Check the Other section from a competition in a bit! :rock

The only accessory I can think of that's not there is the headpiece to the Staff of Ra. But I bet they'll be a desert disguise version with one eventually.

I was going to get the Gentle Giant crate for the idol and an extra hat. Looks like I won't need it.

Yes, Sideshow is definitely stepping into the next level when it comes to their figures. Curious what the bottom price will be for figures on the prometheus? The Indy license mentions figures starting at $69.99... I wonder if that was out before the new body was definitely going to be used.

Im nearly positive it was because the sculpt shown at SDCC had the old neck.

I an actually a little surprised at the limited popularity so far. Maybe it is just early. I got one. I think 110.00 (shipped)...is a fair price for all they are giving with this figure.

Guess all future orders will be shipped FedEx again? No more UPS? :dunno

Les Walker
02-19-2008, 08:00 AM
I hate UPS. FEDEX gets to me intact. Usually.

I am too stoked today to care. This is a super job on a figure.
And, no surprise to me that the SS prices are up either. I assumed it as soon as all the HT stuff started selling so well through SS. I mean, can you really blame them? Seeing all that HT stuff moving so well? I think, as long as they come up to bat like this, and deliver the goods, we will line up as always.
Slower sales, sure. Higher prices do that. But, when we see Map Room Indy, and an Ark and all that, all this debate won't matter much.
My bet, if SS is as smart as I think they are, is we will see a LOT of Indy variants, and a lot of side characters. Maybe fewer run amounts of those, but a lot of choices.

So, it is a great new day.
This is a super figure, and yeah, I too wonder what Toys McCoy and all the customs will be worth now. Only aging and wear n tear will maybe keep them valuable. (better coats?) But, this is a super job to me.

Curious to see what the TOD Indy will be whenever he hits. I think we'll see an Indy 4 version at SDCC though. For this summer's tie in. Just a guess. But this is my favorite Indy of all, so whatever. I am happy today! :chew

I think that was a low estimate, that announcement was made a while back. With the GI Joe figures starting at $80, I'm guessing that'll probably be the new low point.

I can't believe that we have honestly, as a collector society waited so many long years for a great Indy figure!
I know that there was the Toys McCoy and the Arnie Kim, but I've always found them either cost prohibitive and very elusive. There was also Relic Hunter, which was good for parts. Thank you Sideshow for producing the BEST Indy figure that I have seen and all the great accesories! I can't wait to get thi s figure in hand.

All we need is for that ROTLA PF to be announced and my world is complete!

Seriously though, I'm just so blown away that it's finally here, and this figure looks AMAZING!...6 months more and he'll be in hand...and in between we have an ALL NEW Indy movie to tide us over...What a great year to be an Indy fan!

I'm already thinking of getting 2 of these and bashing one to be a jacketless 'Streets of Cairo' version to be able to display 2 incarnations of Indy in his adventure gear from ROTLA! :rock

--Looks like I'll have to update my avatar and signature image with a shot of the ACTUAL prototype piece. :chew

I am absolutely excited about this figure. I can't wait to get him and weather him up real good. The jacket looks much better in the new photos too.

I do however see what some others are seeing as far as being it looking off a bit.
Personally I think it's all in the head size. The sculpt is great but the cast is slightly too big which always takes away some of the realism of a figure.

If the ex had been more high profile, like the medallion for example, wouldn't you feel like such an important piece should be part of the regular figure?

The ex isn't exciting in of itself, no. But the moment it represents is the first time we see how clever Dr. Jones is. It (like every inch of celluloid in the film) is an iconic moment. I'll bet there's a little crevice in the torch to stick the arrow in.

What would you have preferred?

I love, ordered one Ex. and Reg. I want one jacketless like the when he was in Cairo. I think all the accessories really push it it over the top. The crates would've been cool and for a moment I really thought they were included, but I'm hoping to see an environment or additional set with crates, etc. and of course the Ark. I don't think Polystone is a good idea, if you want it to open up (and I do). The sides would be too thin, and the detailing on the top would break sooo easily. ABS plastic is the way to go.

Exactly. Also, ABS will allow for vacu-metalized paint... which is essential. (That's what Hasbro did for theirs and gives it that actual gold shine).

This thing is great. And Trevor's sculpt is great, as we saw. The paintjob needs a bit more work, to do justice to that face. But that's a small nitpick -- this is a great, great Indy doll. Love it!

I've put the horse idea to Sideshow on more than a few occasions, along with numerous others. They really couldn't go wrong with a nicely articulated horse figure. There are some older lines that would still benefit from it, too, not to mention the LOTR and now Indy lines.

That would be another dream come true and it may happen someday, but in the meantime Dragon and DiD make 1/6 scale horse figures that would do quite nicely. Unfortunately, neither of them has made an Arabian yet, like Indy rode in Raiders. The only one I know of was made by Toys McCoy and they're pretty hard to come by I recon.

Gold vacu-metalized ABS plastic for the ark please, but I'm not sure how they could outdo the Hasbro one?

I love all the little details they got right about this figure. The in scale zipper, the tiny drainage grommets on the gas bag, both guns. If they just change the web belt color to brown instead of khaki I'll be 100% happy. Worse comes to worse and they don't correct it, we can just dye the belt I suppose.

Placed a preorder as well for the SS 1/6 scale exclusive.

It's my first foray into the 1/6 scale universe. As much as I love Star Wars, I stuck with the PF's, prop replicas, and a 1:1 bust. I wasn't too impressed with some of the 1/6 scale figs that I saw at my local comic shop (LCS).

I mean after seeing the Bespin Han, Lipstick Anakin, Boushh Leia, ANH Leia, Plo Koon, Qui Gonn Jesus, Endor Rebel Trooper, and a Luke (I think it was the exclusive Ceromonial outfit) on display, I steered clear of the line. I did however like the Mace, ROTS Obi, & Kit...but not enough to fully immerse myself in the 1/6 line because I felt it was very hit or miss.

With Indy, I've been waiting a long time for anything Indiana Jones. Figured this was the best way to start off...

Very true. :D But I thought the mail away was a mix of 4 of the 3 3/4" figures, the kiddie static figures (can't remember what they're calling them), as well as the 12" figures. Maybe Sideshow could include broken pieces of the tablets, or a translucent ghost w/ "fog" pouring out of the ark?

However, as I said in another thread:

$89.99 + $57.76 (s&h) + approx. $25 (VAT) = $172,75 for Indy to be shipped to Spain.

So... I'm not sure if he'll be showing his torch and dart...

C'mon folks...it's the first figure from a line that is being launched in a year when Indy is back on the pop-culture radar with the launch of a new movie...after all of the work that's gone into creating this figure and getting this line introduced, I think it perfectly sensible for Sideshow to have a huge edition size for this premiere figure.

As to the "first it's sold out then it's not" argument...well, did you get one? Good. Would you be upset if you didn't? Yes. What's the problem then?

On second thought, don't answer that...let's just enjoy the release of this figure... :)

That's fine. I just don't like the idea of them arbitrarily RESETTING the Edition Size (if that's indeed what happened) because sales were more brisk than anticipated. That would just really rub me the wrong way.

I agree. The stitching looks much better and it seems to be a bit weathered.

I slept in today and kind of blanked about the figure going on sale, but I was able to get the exclusive using my iPhone. :D Glad it didn't sell out, although the exclusive doesn't do all that much for me, so it's possible I might cancel and get it from a web retailer instead.

Anyway, $90 is looking like the the new baseline price for 12" figures, which I can't say I'm happy about, even if Indy in particular is probably worth it. Love the extra head. I'll definitely be using it for something.

What a fantastic figure! New body. Two heads, 8 hands, great accessories, semi okish exclusive items.

Sideshow seems careful in making sure the exclusive items aren't too cool, and I do not blame them. If you chose something super iconic, you piss off fans' that can't get it, however - and this is my personal opinion, real badass exclusives protect the value of the exclusives over the standard sets!

Again, I was skeptical about this figures. I think it looks great!! However, the head sculpt without the hat doesn't quite capture Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Somehow the hat makes the figure so much better. The jacket looks like it could use some work but it isn't bad. I will be ordering the regular version through another distributor...heck I might even get two of them!! This just seems like a better deal than the Gandalf but I am still worried about the number of high dollar figures that SS is making.

What's wrong with the pants color? They're tan/gray like that in the movie. Might be the lighting too in the SS photos. But I think they're pretty close. At least they're not that warm brown like the McCoy's.

Man, this figure is just great looking, the HR really show of the detail. And you really can see a bit of weathering already on the jacket.

Also the production blog mentions that the material is "customizable", so my guess means that you can get a nice distressed look out of it. Sideshow has not dissappointed :rock

The Ewan and Ford likenesses are in the sculpts. The paint just likes to mess it up a little for some reason.

Down to 40 as of this moment!

What a fantastic figure! New body. Two heads, 8 hands, great accessories, semi okish exclusive items.

Sideshow seems careful in making sure the exclusive items aren't too cool, and I do not blame them. If you chose something super iconic, you piss off fans' that can't get it, however - and this is my personal opinion, real badass exclusives protect the value of the exclusives over the standard sets!

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q93/Mattschlo/021408_newbody01-1.jpg

production blog has been updated - NICE!!!! The wrist design is sooooo much better! I am almost emotional right now. "This will be a day long remembered" indeed!!!!

These 2 new bodies look great, but I believe I have seen them before...

Either way it looks like you might be able to use the old hands on the new bodies, and with a little work and a lot of imagination the old heads could be converted.
If Sideshow does Hellboy 2 figures I would love to see what they are going to do with Big Red because I believe he deserves a new bigger body.

I just hope they don't mess the production piece. It's a great first figure and very expensive, so I hope we get something quite similiar or better than the prototype.

And also, I need more announcements. Usually, with the start of a huge line like this, Sideshow releases 3 first figures in a short span of time. I hope we get at least a sneak peek of the second figure in the next weeks!!

I definitelyy agree. Indy's got me really excited about what's next! Do we have confirmation that this is a Raider's line or is like the Star Wars series and expanding over 4 films and YIJC? I'm hoping to see Toht or Jones sr. or the Cairo Swordsman at this point, but I'm not sure how I feel about spending $90 a pop on them.

We don't know the edition size yet, so it's unclear how limited the piece will be. It's the first in the Indy line, so we don't even have a precedent. It could go anywhere, but I expect it will be a popular piece in an increasingly popular line.

I was wondering the same things. This could either turn into the Star Wars Luke Jedi where everyone misses out becasue its the first figure in the line or it could be a bust where SSC produces way too many between the exclusive and regular editions. Considering how long both versions were/are available I'm guessing they'll be making a lot of these.

This is the most excited I've been about a single toy ever! Its also the most I've ever paied for one either. Moving from Marvel Legends and DCUC to these is a big jump. Hell, I'm just afraid I'm gunna break it. I'm really surprised how low the run on the exclusive edition was. Glad I got on when I did, tho the exclusive is nothing really special. I think the figure looks amazing, simply amazing, and that along with the fact that this is the ultimate figure of a cultural icon that has been overlooked for so long its criminal, justfies the $90 price tag for me. I'm up for an accesory pack with the ark, maybe a basket from the market, the monkey, and maybe a crate or two :horse;) (actually, having the exclusive item be something like the Ark crate would have made a lot of sense to me, but what do I know, I'm a noob)

Alright, after a close examination of Raiders of the Lost Ark this morning ( i coulda said Indiana Jones and the ROTLA to mke Irishjedi mad but i decieded against it ;) ) I have come to the conclusion that besides the belt color ( it should be a dark brown) this figure is ridiculously accurate, especially to the first scene in the jungle. In that scene, the jacket is much less worn than you might expect with only some minor wear and tear, like the sideshow version. With the gloves, its also pretty damed close to the well of souls Indy, with the jacket still having only relatively minor wear. The jacket as it appears later is more worn due to the fact that it was dragged under a truck, not to mention when Indy got shot in the arm.
After watching the film, i wonder how good the figure will look with the jacket off and the shirt unbuttoned ( can it do that?) to simulate Indy's Cairo look. other than the changes in the shirt and no jacket, there really aren't any differences that were immediately noticeable to me, tho I'm sure someone is waiting to prove me wrong. ;):zzwhip

Billy Ray
02-25-2008, 11:53 AM
I agree, other than the belt color, I have not nits to pick with Indy. It was only the lighter tan in TLC.

Someone, somewhere, mentioned the button color being wrong on his shirt but in ROTLA, the buttons did match the color of the shirt. In TOD and TLC they were darker.

You can read all about the costume and gear at Indygear (http://www.indygear.com/gear/index.shtml).
