The Disney website has revealed that the animated classic Bambi will come out in 2011 as part of the Diamond Edition collection. This information has appeared on the page promoting the upcoming Blu-ray release of Beauty and the Beast.
Bambi was among the titles listed by the studio last year when it announced the Diamond Collection (see blu-ray.com, September 10, 2009). The other Diamond collection title for 2011 is reportedly The Lion King.

I have the HD-DVD.
The transfer is not bad. It does show it's age, however, with it being a catalog re-release, not much should be expected. But the remaster I think it exceeds those expectations.
I don't see how the blu can be far behind.

Warner Home Video has announced The Exorcist for release on October 5, in a two-disc Digibook edition, packaged with a personal letter written by director William Friedkin inside a 40-page booklet. Both the extended director's cut and the theatrical version of this 1973 horror masterpiece will be included, remastered from the original camera negative. Three new documentaries, produced by acclaimed documentarian Laurent Bouzereau, are also included exclusively in the Blu-ray edition.
Regarding the two versions, director William Friedkin says, "After my final cut of the original The Exorcist, I took out 12 more minutes before we actually released it in theatres. Years later, Bill Blatty asked if I'd consider reviewing some of that rejected footage (which he always felt should have remained) with an eye towards putting it into a new version. Bill gave me the best piece of material I've ever received and because of that and because the film had such a major reputation over some 25 years, I agreed to revisit all these scenes. When I saw them, I came to realize that Bill was, in fact, right. With technical advances, scenes that didn't work then could now be fixed with CGI and there were others that I thought strengthened the spiritual aspect of the film. Warner agreed and released a whole new theatrical print in 2000 which we called The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen. And I now agree with Blatty that this is the best and most complete version."
Said Jeff Baker, WHV Executive VP & General Manager, Theatrical Catalog, "Generally speaking, sourcing relevant and provocative film assets for older films (30 years and older), is difficult, and more often than not, proves to be unsuccessful. The never before seen behind the camera treasure trove of material that consumers will see in The Exorcist Blu-ray release is one of the great finds in modern day home entertainment history. Laurent Bouzereau, an acclaimed documentarian, has blended this archival rare footage with updated present day interviews to create a masterpiece that will be treasured and studied for decades to come."
Disc contents are as follows:
Disc 1: - Extended Director's Cut (2000) plus Special Features
Commentary by William Friedkin

Star Wars? Not exactly. Someone from LucasFilm said they were working on a box-set for release in 2011. So it might happen next year (propably around Christmas).

I bought Life on blu-ray and was peeved that the cover isn't removable and disposable like on Planet Earth and just about every other blu-ray. Instead the discs are built into it and it doesn't have a plastic blue case beneath. So, Life doesn't fit in with the rest of my collection at all and I can't stand it! I need continuity.

I think it was because they wanted the American audience to have a narrator they could identify with. Not many people know who David Attenborough is, but they recognize his voice. I tried to watch the Oprah version when it was broadcast, but her voice just didn't work nor could get the right inflection in her voice to sync up with what was shown. David on the other hand is awesome and I can watch anything that he narrates.
~~Now I just need a new TV that can show this in its full HD quality.

I hope nobody got rid of their previous "Predator" discs.
The new 2-disc edition is an abomination. There are truly awful-looking screencaps floating around and all the reviews are trashing the "restored" transfer.
The problem is, they removed all the grain from the film to the point where it no longer looks like a film. This grain-removal also tends to removes textures and details that shouldn't be removed under any circumstances.
In the DVD era things like fullscreen-only releases were the enemy but those were still relatively rare and could be seen miles away. Now we have to deal with studios doing stuff like this and there's no telling it will happen until copies start leaking out. Movies shot on film should have film grain and Dutch shouldn't look like the awful CGI Terminator in "Salvation" wearing a plastic shirt like he does in this shot:

I'm surprised at the excitement to own Back to the Futures Part II and III. I don't even acknowledge them. I passed on owning BTTF on DVD because they didn't release it individually (that I'm aware of) and would be passing on the Blu-ray set were it not for all the extras being included. I'll just pretend that its a super ultimate edition of BTTF I with the sequels thrown in as fan-made extras.

The "Back to the Future" sequels are among the best as far as I'm concerned. I don't think it's the perfect trilogy that, say, "Toy Story" is but even if they don't quite live up to the original they're still very worthy.
I think the only major deficiency in the sequels is the fact that Part II completely disregards the conceptual heart of the first film. As a kid it didn't even occur to me that all the time travel stuff was built around the idea of meeting your parents when they were your age and witnessing the two of them falling in love so it didn't bother me that the first sequel jettisoned anything resembling that for a bunch of complicated time-travel adventure but the key to the whole thing is recognizing the two sequels as one large film because the Doc/Clara love story from the third film kinda scratches that itch.
I've seen people say they consider the whole trilogy one movie and that really isn't applicable because the first film was designed to stand alone (not to mention the fact that the casting of Crispin Glover would have completely altered the course the sequels took) and there are substantial runners in the sequels that aren't even hinted at in the first film (the chicken/yellow thing, Needles, Wild Gunman/shooting gallery etc.) but it's not much of a stretch at all to see the sequels as one movie (they were obviously filmed together) and that alone makes them a pretty interesting cinematic entity in their own right. I can't think of any other back-to-back production that tied everything together in such an interesting and rewarding way.
At the end of the day you can do quite a bit worse than the "Back to the Future" sequels, and I personally think it's absolutely without logic or merit to dismiss them as "fan-made extras" when the overwhelming majority of the cast and crew of the original film made them. I mean, I can see saying that about something like "Predators" (not a bash, just the truth) but these had the same director, writer and 80% of the leads for Christ's sake.

.
Lord of the Rings, perhaps? At least in my book. Maybe Star Treks III and IV too, if you take them as the "Spock's Rebirth" arc, which I think did a great job of dealing with all those issues.
That said, I'm totally with you in that I loved all the BTTF movies, and will look forward to seeing them all in order again in HD.

Transformers 2 and the Matrix sequels also had the same cast and crew of their original movies. That doesn't make them any less easily dismissed than the BTTF sequels. I'm not going to argue about it, the second two films had almost zero charm compared to the original as far as I'm concerned and if you disagree then that's fine. Obviously I was wrong.
You were wrong when you dismissed the sequels as "fan-made projects". You were right about there being plenty of bad sequels with the original casts and crews behind them (and you're well within your right to put the "BttF" sequels in that category) but my whole point is your little "fan-made" comment has no relevance to said projects.
The "AvP" movies. "Dumb and Dumberer". Most direct-to-video sequels. I can see that phrase applying to those. It simply isn't appropriate to label the BttF sequels that way. You're obviously free to hate them but that's not a valid reason nor is it a valid criticism.
You were wrong when you dismissed the sequels as "fan-made projects".
That's a matter of opinion, and like I said, not worth arguing. It has been duly noted that you regard the BTTF sequels quite highly. By all means, enjoy them! I love the POTC sequels, but many disagree. That's life. :)

That's a matter of opinion,
No, THAT is not a matter of opinion. The "Back to the Future" sequels were, IN FACT, NOT made by fans.
There's actually a difference between a fact and an opinion.
No, THAT is not a matter of opinion. The "Back to the Future" sequels were, IN FACT, NOT made by fans.
I think I made it pretty clear that I considered them to be fan-made extras in spirit based on my opinion of their quality. I obviously didn't mean that literally for heaven's sake.
Once again:
I'm surprised at the excitement to own Back to the Futures Part II and III. I don't even acknowledge them. I passed on owning BTTF on DVD because they didn't release it individually (that I'm aware of) and would be passing on the Blu-ray set were it not for all the extras being included. I'll just pretend that its a super ultimate edition of BTTF I with the sequels thrown in as fan-made extras.

Talking of the Back to the Future Blu-Ray Boxset
Play.com have the standard Boxset. They also have the limited edition collectors tin, which I have pre-orderd, but now I see they have a Delorean Edition Box Set, which they will have more details in the future. I might have to go for that one if it's as awesome as it sounds

It had become a habit: every time an HBO title was announced on Blu-ray, enthusiasts snapped back: "But where is Deadwood?". Well, the answer might be coming closer, as Deadwood: The Complete Series just came up for preorder. This 13-disc box set will reportedly include all 36 episodes from the series, in 1080p video with DTS-HD Master Audio sound.
There is no street date yet, but a fall release is most likely.
As this title is not formally announced, all of the above is unofficial

I thought the biggest flaw with the BTTF sequels was the "nobody calls me chicken/yellow" thing -- they introduced this random character flaw that was never mentioned in the first. That, and the notable absence of George McFly.
But ... other than those departures from the original, I thought the trilogy was amazingly well done.

The Predator Blu looks good - yes, they did over do the processing a bit, but it's not the end of humanity as we know it.
There is a lot more than 'dnr' going on with this processing. They did use a form of DNR to get rid of the grain/noise, and by 'get rid' I really mean it. It's pretty much gone.
However, doing so always softens a picture, so they've also sharpened it digitally. This is particularly obvious in close ups. Those close ups are what are confusing to most people, because they look good to them - it's not those that really cause any issues for me. Yea, they're a little too obviously sharpened, and putting the sharpening effect on top of the DNR does reduce detail (not sharpness...detail - two different things here), but the real problem is in the backgrounds in scenes with a long depth of field.
Close ups have a short depth of field, so focus gives you a good separation between background and foreground. With a longer depth of field, there's less separation, and without the grain there's more smearing between colors and the foreground and background. Things look flat, lumpy. This is particularly noticable in the jungle scenes, the camo uniforms on group shots, and other shots where colors are quite similar. Pulling out the grain also hurt the shadow detail, again where colors (grays and black) are close.
So yea, they overdid it, but your eyes won't bleed. A saving grace on this flick is that much of it is in daylight, but if they do this much processing on the Aliens movies where darkness rules, it'll be an even bigger issue.

Like the UEs of Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets, released in 2009, each title will feature a new chapter of "Creating the World of Harry Potter," a unique 8-hour documentary series with never-before-seen footage, intriguing stories and the definitive insider look behind the films.
Each Harry Potter Ultimate Edition contains three discs filled with hours of special features. Also included are collectibles such as a book featuring over 40 pages of movie stills, production sketches, concept paintings and behind-the-scenes insight. The Ultimate Editions also feature collectible character cards and a bonus Digital Copy of the film.
Creating the World of Harry Potter Part 3: Creatures (included in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: Ultimate Edition) features never-before-seen footage of the creature shop and includes never revealed concept drawings and interviews with creators who describe the quest to create real creatures with emotional power to move the adventure forward. Go behind the scenes with Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as they interact with a marvelous menagerie from magnificent Buckbeak to malevolent Dementors. Watch creatures develop from page to sketch to model to screen. Discover how actors are transformed from humans to rats and werewolves. Witness Voldemort's evolution from grotesque, infant-like creature to the Darkest Force of all.
Creating the World of Harry Potter Part 4: Sound & Music (included in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: Ultimate Edition) shows how musical themes for Harry, Hedwig, Luna and Lord Voldemort define each character's identity. Learn how sound effects experts create the crunch of footsteps on snow and the whoosh of a flying broomstick. Visit recording studios and see how each composer brings his orchestral vision to the films. Plunge into fun as Daniel gets the sound of underwater. Feel the magic as music is added to a scene, intensifying the emotion and steering the story.

Apocalypse Now is coming to Blu-Ray on October 19th. No official announcements but Amazon.ca leaked it.
Two editions. Both have both theatrical and Redux cuts, the Full Disclosure Edition also contains "Hearts of Darkness".
I'm confident that it will look great (in 2:1, accept it and move on) since American Zoetrope actually is behind any home video release (as opposed to the studio releasing it, Paramount up through the DVD era and now Lionsgate) but I hope it will retain all the extras from previous DVD editions. I remember "The Complete Dossier" actually didn't unless you got the Circuit City bonus disc that had the old extras on it. My makeshift 6-DVD edition of "Apocalypse Now" on is a bit unwieldy.
Now if Lionsgate needs to get "The Conversation" out so Coppola's full and flawless 1970's output would be available on Blu.

IGN has the scoop on the release date and details for the Alien Anthology, which will come out in the US on October 26. This six-disc set contains about 60 hours of special features and over 12,000 images, including material from the legendary early 1990s LaserDisc release, the "Legacy" release and the Quadrilogy DVDs. 20th Century Fox claims that the four Alien films have been "reinvigorated for an intense Blu-ray high-definition viewing experience."
New, previously unreleased content includes original screen tests of Sigourney Weaver prior to filming the original Alien, unseen deleted scenes, and the previously unseen original cut of "Wreckage and Rage: The Making of Alien3" (previously only available in truncated form).
This edition will incorporate the "MU-TH-UR Mode," an interactive feature that lets you access the special features on all six discs and provides an index of all available content.
The Anthology offers nearly five hours of additional video Enhancement Pods created exclusively for this collection, presenting behind-the-scenes footage, raw dailies and interview outtakes from all four films. At relevant points in the documentaries, you may access these pods to enhance your experience – or watch them on their own from the separate Enhancement Pod index.
As previously reported (see blu-ray.com, April 6), the Anthology will initially be available in a limited edition with alien-egg packaging.

The Blu-ray release of Alien Anthology, just announced, is only one aspect of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's yearlong campaign to honor the studio's 75th birthday. Select Fox fan-favorites are coming out on Blu-ray this year, and have just gone up for preorder (albeit without a date): The Last of the Mohicans, Moulin Rouge!, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Romeo + Juliet, and The Sound of Music.
The Sound of Music will initially be available in a Limited Edition Collector's Set, probably in the vein of recent ultimate collector's editions such as The Wizard of Oz.

Looking forward to the Anthology box! Only thing is, looks like they don't have a lot of new documentary footage. But it will be worth it just to see the full version of the Alien 3 documenatary, with more Fincher. Apparently you can really see his frustration in the extended footage.

An early announcement to retailers indicates that, confirming earlier rumors, Vivendi Visual Entertainment is set to release the Weinstein Company production Grindhouse on a Special Edition Blu-ray on October 5 (perfect for a Halloween viewing party with friends). No release details are available at this moment, other than it will be a two-disc edition and that list price has been set at a very affordable $19.97.

"As you can see, we've also included images of the special "limited edition" packaging version featuring "The Guardian" - an exclusive illuminated statue sculpted by Sideshow Collectibles (SRP $149.99). We're not sure if this is going to be a retailer exclusive (we're working to find out), but Comic-Con attendees will have the first chance to pre-order the limited edition at the Fox booth (#4313) and you'll also be able to pre-order it on www.foxconnect.com next week... Lionsgate President and Co-Chief Operating Officer Steve Beeks and filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola announced today that Lionsgate and American Zoetrope have entered into a multi-year home entertainment distribution agreement (including Blu-ray). The first title released as part of the deal was Coppola latest film, Tetro; the next one will be the renowned and award-winning war film Apocalypse Now, scheduled for Blu-ray release on October 19.
With new transfers supervised directly by Coppola, Apocalypse Now will come out in two deluxe editions: the 2-Film Set, and the 3-disc Full Disclosure Edition. The 2-Film Set will include both Apocalypse Now - The 1979 Cut and Apocalypse Now Redux and will also include over nine hours of special features. The Full Disclosure Edition will add the seminal making-of documentary Hearts of Darkness, a 48-page collectible booklet and storyboard, photo and marketing archives.
"We are thrilled to be in business with Francis Ford Coppola, one of the greatest filmmakers of our time," said Beeks. "Having directed, produced and written some of the most financially successful and critically acclaimed movies in U.S. cinematic history, Coppola is one of the masters of modern cinema. We are honored to add a selection of his most renowned and personal works to our library and look forward to releasing these titles on all formats."
"With their expertise in the home entertainment marketplace, we consider Lionsgate to be the perfect partner to distribute some of my most enduring films," said Coppola. "We are excited to be collaborating with them and hope to continue to enthrall our existing fans while also reaching a whole new audience for these films by presenting them in the highest quality format available along with exceptional in-depth special features."
The Full Disclosure Edition will be mine :yess:

I need some honest advice here folks and I'm hopping someone the likes of Lonnie or some other classic horror buffs can point me in the right direction. I'm looking to get either a box set or anthology (in the best possible format) that has all the classic universal monster movie in it. I'm talking Dracula, Frankestein, Mummy, etc. etc.
I've never seen any of these classics and I want to be able to experience film art. Any suggestions?

I have this set and it contains all the Dracula, Frankenstein and The Wolf Man movies, the first one's and the various sequels like Son Of Franenstein and stuff like that. Also included are The Invisible Man, Creature From The Black Lagoon, The Mummy & The Phantom Of The Opera. And you get those three SS busts. I think you can get it pretty cheap. I got mine for about $25 brand new a few years ago :yess:
There's been no word from Universal about releasing them on Blu-Ray so this is the best one out there right now but it's a great box-set.

HBO has tipped IGN that all three seasons of their critically acclaimed western, Deadwood, will make their Blu-Ray debut in one complete set on November 23.
Deadwood was conceived by David Milch, the mind behind the groundbreaking cop dramas Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue and ran on HBO from 2004-2006. The show was set in the 1870s and centered on Deadwood, South Dakota -- a small settlement on the western frontier. The gritty western was known for its clever, and often profane dialogue, and garnered 28 Emmy noms with 8 wins in its three season run.
The show provided leading roles for Timothy Olyphant, now starring on FX's Justified, and Ian McShane, who currently has a spot locked up for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Other cast members included Molly Parker, Jim Beaver, W. Earl Brown, Dayton Callie, Kim Dickens, Brad Dourif and Anna Gunn.
Deadwood - The Complete Series will include all 36 episodes of the show spread across 13 discs. HBO is including all bonus material from previous releases for this one, as well as four hours of all new content that will offer a comprehensive retrospective of the show. Highlights include:
-- The Meaning of Endings: Creator David Milch's discussion on what would have happened had Deadwood continued.
-- The Real Deadwood: Out of the Ashes: A behind-the-scenes historical featurette on the wildest town in the West.
-- Q&A with Cast and Creative Team (Courtesy of the Paley Center for Media): A panel discussion filmed at The Paley Center for Media with creator David Milch, executive producer Gregg Fienberg, and actors John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, Paula Malcomson, Powers Booth, Robin Weigert, Molly Parker, Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane.
-- Deadwood 360 Tour: A tour of the detailed and realistic sets and town streets created for Deadwood.
-- Al Swearengen Audition Reel (as performed by Titus Welliver): Watch Titus Welliver's (Silas Adams) mock audition for the role of "Al Swearengen."
Deadwood: The Complete Series will be available in stores just in time for the post Thanksgiving shopping craze, with a MSRP of $209.98.

Too bad they'll be the "Even More Special" Editions with a host of new tweaks. Unless an anamorphic version of the unaltered OT is included (which it won't), I'll be skipping this entirely and renting the supplemental discs on Netflix so I can at least see what extra material they've cooked up for this release. I really enjoyed the documentary on the first DVD set, despite the butchering of the films themselves.

Lucas also clarified that the original trilogy movies will be included as they were shown theatrically in 1997 and released on DVD in 2004 - i.e., the original versions will not be included. "You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally," he said. "It's a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version."
With the technology and resources at his disposal you would think we would atleast consider and go the extra mile to deliver the original theatrical cuts in high-definition this time.
Good to know he has decided to keep the tradition alive by disappointing most fans as always.

Joining the blockbuster in stores (and snagging a spot once held for Finding Nemo's Blu-ray debut) as the now standard Pixar cross-promote is Mater's Tall Tales, which collects nine of the "Cars Toons" shorts that center on Lightning McQueen's trusty, rusty tow truck pal Mater. Two of these cartoons (Mater Private Eye and Moon Mater) have never before been released.
The 38-minute compilation will be available on DVD ($26.99 SRP) and in a Blu-ray + DVD Combo pack ($29.99 SRP). Bonus features will include the featurette "Unmade Tall Tales" and a sneak peek of Disneyland's forthcoming Cars Land.

Anyone that bought the Gladiator Blu-ray (me :dunno), the remastered version is out.
Here are some screen comparisons. Wow, what a difference!

There is an exchange program. Basically, send Paramount disc 1 of Gladiator with your name, address and phone number.
The address to send the disc is:
PHE MKT
c/o Deluxe Media Management
PO Box 801464
Valencia, CA 91380-1464
Do you send just your disc or the case as well? Sorry for the dumb questions. I've never sent one back in before.

During an interview to promote the Avatar theatrical re-release, director James Cameron also mentioned that he had just done "a complete remaster of Aliens" (included in the Alien Anthology scheduled for Blu-ray release on October 26), working with the same colorist with whom he had worked on Avatar. In what is sure to ignite some controversy, Cameron said he had completely removed all noise and grain from the extended version of the film.
The filmmaker said: "It's spectacular. We went in and completely de-noised it, de-grained it, up-rezzed, color-corrected every frame, and it looks amazing. It looks better that it looked in the theaters originally. Because it was shot on a high-speed negative that was a new negative that didn't pan out too well and got replaced the following year. So it's pretty grainy. We got rid of all the grain. It's sharper and clearer and more beautiful than it's ever looked. And we did that to the long version, to the 'director's cut' or the extended play."

I think you can but Paramount have shipped them along with the one that's crap so you have to look for them among the copies. Disney had a press release Friday where they announced that Toy Story 3 and Mater's Tall Tales are coming. It was rumored for awhile that maybe Toy Story 3 and Finding Nemo in November.
It's also up at blu-ray.com but there's no cover art, no specs, it says November 2009 and it's not on the release calendar. And Amazon doesnt have it up for pre-order so i don't think it's gonna be this year.

I'm a little nervous too but Cameron has overseen it all so hopefully it's not Predator quality and they did make it look amazing. But i guess we won't find out until sometime in October when the reviews start rolling in.

From The Digital Bits....
First up today, there's been a small degree of panic in some quarters online in the last couple days about director James Cameron's recent comments on the remastered Aliens transfer. Cameron was video interviewed over at Coming Soon.net about Avatar, and about 5:30 into the clip he talks about the new Aliens HD master for the upcoming Blu-ray. To quote: "It's spectacular.
As you might expect, all that talk of de-noising and de-graining has some fans freaked out that the release is going to suffer the same excessively DNR-ed fate as Fox's recent Predator: Ultimate Hunter Blu-ray. Here's the deal: Everyone we trust who was involved, and/or has actually SEEN the new Aliens HD master for Blu-ray, reports to us that the film looks terrific. To the degree that DNR was used, it was applied carefully and with a light hand, with an eye toward striking the proper balance between maintaining the detail and integrity of the image and the desire to reduce grain and address the deficiencies of the stock used at the time. There is apparently STILL grain left in the image, it's just no longer excessive or distracting. Plus, Cameron is no slouch when it comes to the presentation quality of his films on disc, and he approved this transfer and master. Look, there's a VERY big difference in digital mastering when the filmmakers are directly involved in the process, as opposed to when they're not. So we're told the disc looks great, we trust that it looks great and I'll personally work to directly confirm that. My own feeling is that Predator was probably an aberration. Fox has generally been doing very good mastering work for Blu-ray in the last year or so, and I suspect this is going to be a non-issue when we all get our hands on the Aliens disc. 'Nuff said for now. By the way, it's a good interview at Coming Soon, so do check it out.
Sweet! :rock
But November is so far away. :monkey2

All right... as most of you Stanley Kubrick fans are no doubt already aware, Warner Home Video has released Blu-ray Disc versions of 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Eyes Wide Shut and Full Metal Jacket. Universal recently released Spartacus, albeit in a mediocre Blu-ray edition with a substandard quality HD master. Meanwhile, Sony's done a fine job of Dr. Strangelove on Blu, and Criterion is preparing a Blu-ray release of MGM's Paths of Glory on 10/26. So a lot of you have probably been wondering, where are Warner's Blu-rays of Lolita and Barry Lyndon?
Well... that's a question we here at The Bits have been asking the folks at Warner Home Video for months now. And today, they surprised us with an answer! Yes, both Lolita and Barry Lyndon are currently being prepared for Blu-ray Disc release by the studio in 2011. And here's the even better news: They hinted that the films are going to be available both as singles AND as part of a new Stanley Kubrick Blu-ray Collection! We're waiting on more details, and no doubt it will be a while before the release gets officially announced, but it appears that Warner plans to really do their Kubrick catalog up right on Blu-ray in the new year!
What with Criterion having licensed Paths of Glory from MGM for DVD and Blu-ray release, could they have obtained rights for Kubrick's The Killing and Killer's Kiss from MGM as well? And with so much new Kubrick Blu-ray product on the way, might Universal see fit to give Spartacus a fresh high-def transfer and re-release the title in a better Blu-ray edition? (Believe me, judging by the hundreds of e-mails we've gotten in recent weeks, a LOT of you would love for that to happen. Rest assured, I strongly suggested it to the studio on my recent visit.)
In any case, the next year or so should prove to be very exciting for fans Stanley Kubrick who, like us here at The Bits, are eager to see ALL his films in high-definition!

Just got a code for $8 off the Toy Story 3 combo pack (yellow box) from Amazon. The e-mail says:
Customers who purchased kids and family movies might be interested in saving $8 on "Toy Story 3 Blu-ray/DVD Combo Pack."
So check your inboxes! This could end up being a really great deal, especially if the price drops before November 2nd.
It's a one-time use code, otherwise I would share it here.

Deep Discount is having a bogo sale on some select blus, and there's some decent deals:

I've done two orders so far - one with Neverending Story and Golden Compass for $15 total, and one for NMOES and Poltergeist (which isn't even released yet) for $20 total. I might break down and get the Shawshank Redemption and How the West Was Won for $30 total too...

I think Disney will have the usual $10 coupon for when it's released.
