Walkie Talkie ? :dunno

Yes, in the scene where they are biking down the street and fly over the police blockade, in the original version the police were holding shotguns. I guess a decision was made some time later to remove them and replace them with walkie talkies. They have gone full circle now and reverted back to shotguns.

As part of its 100th Anniversary this year, Universal Studios Home Entertainment will offer special Blu-rays of selected catalog titles, and the 30th Anniversary Edition of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial will arrive in the fall wave. Director Steven Spielberg's classic science-fiction fable focuses on the relationship between lonely preteen Elliott (Henry Thomas, Gangs of New York) and a space alien marooned on Earth.

As Elliott bonds with the alien - whom he nicknames "E.T." - he begins to develop a psychic connection that extends far past the doldrums of his suburban community. It is this link that inspires Elliott to devise a daring plan to return the creature to his home planet, though Elliott finds his efforts hampered by E.T.'s failing health and the increasingly intrusive presence of government agents.

Written by Melissa Mathison (Twilight Zone: The Movie), the film's ensemble cast includes Drew Barrymore (Charlie's Angels), Dee Wallace (The Frighteners), Peter Coyote (Erin Brockovich), Erika Eleniak (Under Siege), and C. Thomas Howell (Gettysburg).

E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial was also a big success at the 1983 Academy Awards Ceremony, winning the following Oscars:
Best Sound Effects Editing: Charles L. Campbell and Ben Burtt
Best Sound: Robert Knudson, Robert Glass, Don Digirolamo, and Gene S. Cantamessa
Best Visual Effects: Carlo Rambaldi, Dennis Muren, and Kenneth Smith
Best Original Score: John Williams

In addition, the picture received further nominations for:
Best Picture: Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy
Best Director: Steven Spielberg
Best Original Screenplay: Melissa Mathison
Best Cinematography: Allen Daviau
Best Film Editing: Carol Littleton

Universal's Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack offers the 1982 theatrical edition of the film in its 1.85:1 original aspect ratio with a 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. Furthermore, the disc contains Universal's standard BD-Live, pocket BLU, Advanced Remote Control, Video Timeline, Mobile-To-Go, and Keyboard functionalities and the following bonus supplements:

In the fall, Warner Home Entertainment is expected to bring the 30th Anniversary Edition of Blade Runner to Blu-ray. Director Ridley Scott's iconic reimagining of the Philip K. ____ novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep stars Harrison Ford (The Complete Indiana Jones Collection) as Rick Deckard, a disenchanted Blade Runner who hunts replicants - genetically engineered organic robots - in Los Angeles, circa 2019.

As the science-fiction-thriller begins, Deckard receives the assignment to kill four rogue replicants who have returned to Earth after organizing a bloody off-world rebellion. Deckard's search takes him from the bowels of Los Angeles' synthetic community to Dr. Eldon Tyrell (Joe Turkel, The Shining), the creator of the replicants; however, the weary Blade Runner finds his resolve tested by both his romantic feelings towards Tyrell's android secretary Rachel (Sean Young, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective) as well as the savagery of head replicant fugitive Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer, Hobo with a Shotgun).

Written by Hampton Fancher (The Minus Man) and David Webb Peoples (Unforgiven), the film co-stars Edward James Olmos (Battlestar Galactica), M. Emmet Walsh (Blood Simple), Daryl Hannah (Kill Bill), James Hong (Big Trouble in Little China), William Sanderson (Deadwood), Brion James (The Player), and Joanna Cassidy (Ghosts of Mars).

In addition, Blade Runner collected Oscar nominations at the 1983 Academy Awards Ceremony for:
Best Art Direction-Set Decoration: Lawrence G. Paull, David L. Snyder, and Linda DeScenna
Best Visual Effects: Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich, and David Dryer

Warner's four-disc Blu-ray/DVD/UltraViolet Digital Copy combo pack offers five versions of the picture: the rare workprint version, the 1982 domestic and international theatrical cuts, the 1993 director's cut, and the 2007 Final Cut, which contains additional revisions not present in any of the previous versions. Further technical specifications are unknown, though the Blu-ray does contain a number of bonus supplements, such as:
All-new bonus content disc featuring the existing extra content from the Ultimate Collector's Edition
Photo gallery with 1,000+ new images
Feature-length Dangerous Days documentary
Over six behind-the-scenes featurettes

The discs come packaged in a collectible 72-page digibook with "never-before-seen Ridley [Scott] sketches, poster art, and photos from the set" alongside a concept spinner car and action Lenticular hologram.

The 30th Anniversary Edition of Blade Runner streets on October 2nd.

This fall, Paramount Home Media Distribution and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will bring Titanic to Blu-ray. Director James Cameron's epic romance focuses on the love that blooms between young socialite Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and sensitive drifter Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio, Romeo + Juliet), two passengers on the ill-fated Titanic voyage.

Cutting back and forth between the chaos on the ship and an aged Rose (Gloria Stuart, The Old Dark House) describing her experiences to a treasure hunter (Bill Paxton, Aliens) eighty-four years after the ship sank, Cameron creates a heightened representation of the different intrigues and social classes impacted by the disaster.

The film's sterling ensemble cast also includes Billy Zane (Dead Calm), Kathy Bates (Misery), Frances Fisher (Unforgiven), Jonathan Hyde (Jumanji), Bernard Hill (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy), David Warner (The Omen), Suzy Amis (The Usual Suspects), and Victor Garber (Milk).

Titanic was also a huge success at the 1998 Academy Awards Ceremony, winning the following eleven Oscars:
Best Picture: James Cameron and Jon Landau
Best Director: James Cameron
Best Cinematography: Russell Carpenter
Best Film Editing: Conrad Buff IV, James Cameron, and Richard A. Harris
Best Sound Effects Editing: Tom Bellfort and Christopher Boyes
Best Sound: Gary Rydstrom, Tom Johnson, Gary Summers, and Mark Ulano
Best Visual Effects: Robert Legato, Mark A. Lasoff, Thomas L. Fisher, and Michael Kanfer
Best Original Score: James Horner
Best Original Song: James Horner and Will Jennings for "My Heart Will Go On"
Best Art Direction-Set Decoration: Peter Lamont and Michael Ford
Best Costume Design: Deborah Lynn Scott

In addition, the picture received further nominations for:
Best Actress: Kate Winslet
Best Supporting Actress: Gloria Stuart
Best Makeup: Tina Earnshaw, Greg Cannom, and Simon Thompson

Paramount offers the film in two HD iterations - a four-disc Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy combo pack designed to replicate the feature's 1997 theatrical exhibition and a four-disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/Digital Copy combo pack.

Note: For the Blu-ray 3D combo pack, Paramount has split the 3D version across two separate Blu-ray discs. The 2D version fits - along with the three commentaries - on a single Blu-ray in both the Blu-ray 3D and Blu-ray 2D editions. Furthermore, the DVD copy in the 2D combo pack is spread out over two DVD discs.

Update: The 2D version will be presented in its 2.39:1 original aspect ratio, while the 3D version will receive a new 1.78:1 master with added information on the top and bottom of the frame to best fit the 3D experience. Both viewing modes also get English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio tracks alongside the following supplements:
In-depth Reflections on Titanic exploration of the film with James Cameron
Titanic: The Final Word documentary produced by National Geographic with James Cameron that brings the world's leading RMS Titanic experts together to discuss why and how the ship sank
Three audio commentaries:
- Director James Cameron
- Selected cast and crew members
- Don Lynch and Ken Marshall
Sixty behind-the-scenes featurettes
Featurette on the visual effects
Thirty deleted scenes with optional James Cameron commentary
Titanic crew video $200,000,001: A Ship's Odyssey
Deep dive presentation narrated by James Cameron
Constuction timelapse
Videomatics
Still galleries:
- Over 2,000 archival photographs
- James Cameron's Titanic scriptment
- Storyboard sequences
- Production artwork
- Ken Marshall's painting gallery
- "By the Numbers"

From Digital Bits:

"Editor's Note: We've been communicating back and forth with WHV over the last couple hours. Here's the official update: The new gallery will be included on the set in full HD. It appears that Dangerous Days will still be SD only. It goes without saying that I'm STRONGLY encouraging WHV to reconsider. The new gallery and swag is just not reason enough for fans to buy this film again. However, adding the unseen Spinner featurette and upgrading Dangerous Days to full HD would be a different story. Again, further details as they come in. If you'd care to POLITELY weigh in with the studio on this issue, please do so on their Blade Runner Facebook page while there's still time to convince them."

In October, Warner Home Entertainment will bring both What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Dead Ringer to Blu-ray.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? -

Directed by Robert Aldrich (Kiss Me Deadly), this blackly comic thriller stars screen legends Bette Davis (All About Eve) and Joan Crawford (Johnny Guitar) as Baby Jane and Blanche Hudson, feuding siblings who are deeply critical of the other's show business successes.

With their respective moments in the spotlight now long gone - Baby Jane is a former vaudeville-era child star, while Blanche is an ex-movie star - the sisters' resentments have only grown following an automobile accident that left Blanche crippled from the waist down and Baby Jane wallowing in alcoholism and dementia. As Baby Jane's mania grows, she launches an increasingly perverse assault against her sister, one that puts both their lives at risk.

What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? won an Oscar at the 1963 Academy Awards Ceremony for Norma Koch's Black and White Costume Design and received the following four nominations:
Best Actress: Bette Davis
Best Supporting Actor: Victor Buono
Best Black and White Cinematography: Ernest Haller
Best Sound: Joseph D. Kelly

Dead Ringer -

Released two years after What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?, Dead Ringer finds Bette Davis playing warring twin sisters Margaret DeLorca and Edith Phillips. Long jealous of Margaret for her money and for marrying the man Edith loved as a younger woman, Edith finally snaps and fakes her own death before murdering her sibling and assuming her identity.

Primed to live the high-life disguised as the wealthy Margaret, Edith finds herself struggling to maintain the deception when she encounters Sergeant Jim Hobbson (Karl Malden, A Streetcar Named Desire), a police officer investigating Edith's death, as well as the unscrupulous Tony Collins (Peter Lawford, Ocean's 11), Margaret's former lover and confidante.

While the technical specifications are unknown for both What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Dead Ringer, Warner will offer Baby Jane? in a newly remastered 50th Anniversary Edition that contains a number of bonus supplements, such as:
Commentary by Charles Busch and John Epperson
Behind-the-scenes documentaries:
Bette and Joan: Blind Ambition
1994 TNT feature All About Bette
1967 BBC feature Film Profile: Joan Crawford
Vintage Behind the Scenes with Baby Jane featurette
Excerpt from the 12/20/1962 episode of "The Andy Williams Show"
Dan-O-Rama Movie Mix trailer for Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?
Theatrical Trailer

The 50th Anniversary Edition comes packaged in a collectible 36-page digibook with "insightful essays...and photography."

The individual What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? and Dead Ringer discs street on October 9th.

http://www.sideshowcollectors.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=47944&stc=1&d=1339521270

I've seen that, looks okay but i really want the 10D collectors set, just dont wanna risk region blocking by getting it from the US

It will be Region Free, all 6 movies.

How do yo know this one does not have ten discs? The extras are on the additional discs that's all.

UK set is 6 discs, one for each movie. The US set's got 3D discs for Thor, Cap and Avengers and a bonus disc.

Cause it's listed as 6 discs on Play.com and is half the price of 10 disc set (after $ to £ conversion)

It will be Region Free, all 6 movies.

UK set is 6 discs, one for each movie. The US set's got 3D discs for Thor, Cap and Avengers and a bonus disc.

Yeah so, unless you need the 3D versions... or really want that one disc... I am not sure it's worth double the price as you say.

I've put an order in at Amazon.com anyway and can cancel anytime up until it's instock, so if the UK gets it i'll cancel it and buy locally.

I have a ocd so i can't stand loose blu-rays or comics which is why i always wait for graphic novels or complete box sets. I'm hoping they'll do a phase 2 set as well and having both will be cool. Plus this will make an awesome display piece with my HT Avengers.

More Hitchcock!!! :yess:

Warner Home Entertainment will bring two films from director Alfred Hitchcock (The 39 Steps) to Blu-ray in October - Strangers on a Train and Dial M for Murder.

Strangers on a Train:

Adapted from the Patricia Highsmith novel by Raymond Chandler and Czenzi Ormonde, this blackly comic thriller focuses on the unique relationship between harried tennis player Guy Haines (Farley Granger, Rope) and Bruno Antony (Robert Walker, My Son John), a spoiled socialite.

Guy and Bruno first meet on a train and begin discussing their respective personal difficulties - Guy has a vindictive wife (Kasey Rogers, A Place in the Sun) who won't grant him a divorce, while Bruno lives in the shadow of his domineering father (Jonathan Hale, Call Northside 777). As a solution, Bruno proposes that each man murder the person the other one wants dead, a notion that Guy waves off as a joke before leaving Bruno's company....except Bruno isn't kidding, and he's ready to do anything to make Guy uphold his side of the bargain.

Dial M for Murder:

This screen adaptation of Frederick Knott's popular stage drama stars Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend) as Tony Wendice, a professional tennis player who conspires to kill his wife Margot (Grace Kelly, Rear Window) when he learns of her infidelity with another man (Robert Cummings, Saboteur).

After hiring a down-on-his-luck crook (Anthony Dawson, Dr. No) to carry out the murder, Wendice assumes his next step will be to collect his wife's sizable inheritance. However, his plans spiral out of control as Margot turns the tables on her would-be assailant, an action that forces Wendice to improvise in order to avoid the suspicions of his wife and a tenacious police inspector (John Williams, To Catch a Thief).

While the complete technical specifications are still unknown for Warner's Blu-rays, the studio offers Dial M for Murder in a Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray combo pack. Warner's press release notes that its "Motion Picture Imaging division...has meticulously and painstakingly restored the original 3D presentation...[at] a 4K scan of the original camera negative...[along with] convergence fixes to ensure perfect alignment."

The discs also contain the following bonus supplements:

Strangers on a Train:
Extended preview version of the film with adult content not present in the U.S. theatrical edition
Commentary by Peter Bogdanovich, Joseph Stefano, Andrew Wilson, Joe Alves, Peter Benchley, Tere Caruba, Whitfield Cook, Katie Fiala, Richard Franklin, Alfred Hitchcock, Patricia Hitchcock O'Connell, Kasey Rogers, Richard Schickel, and Mary Stone
Behind-the-scenes featurettes:
Strangers on a Train: A Hitchcock Classic
Strangers on a Train: The Victim's P.O.V.
Strangers on a Train: An Appreciation by M. Night Shyamalan
The Hitchcocks on Hitch
Alfred Hitchcock's Historical Meeting
Theatrical trailer

Dial M for Murder:
Behind-the-scenes featurettes:

Ed Wood! :yess:

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will bring Ed Wood to Blu-ray later this year. The second screen collaboration between director Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands) and actor Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street) takes inspiration from the life and work of Edward D. Wood Jr., a filmmaker responsible for some of the worst movies ever made.

Ed Wood follows Wood (Depp) from his Hollywood beginnings as a struggling playwright and aspiring director through the filming of his "masterpiece," the hilariously inept sci-fi chiller Plan 9 From Outer Space. Burton puts a particular focus on the many production obstacles Wood faced while making his movies as well as the tender friendship he cultivated with fading screen legend Bela Lugosi (Martin Landau, Rounders).

Written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (The People vs. Larry Flynt), the film has a sterling ensemble cast that includes Sarah Jessica Parker (Honeymoon in Vegas), Patricia Arquette (True Romance), Jeffrey Jones (Sleepy Hollow), G.D. Spradlin (The Godfather: Part II), Lisa Marie (Mars Attacks!), Juliet Landau (Green Lantern: First Flight), Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket), and Bill Murray (The Royal Tenenbaums).

In addition, Ed Wood won the following two Oscars at the 1995 Academy Awards Ceremony:
Best Supporting Actor: Martin Landau
Best Makeup: Rick Baker, Ve Neill, and Yolanda Toussieng
The supplementary and technical specifications for the Blu-ray are still unknown.

The preliminary release date set by the studio is September 18th.

The avengers 10 disc version on amazon.com states region 1 therefore this wont play in the uk will it? Im bit annoyed now

I'm pretty sure that will refer to any DVD's included if it was Blu-Ray it would say Region A

I'd go with the information you already have...the Blu-Rays will be region free & playable in the UK

The DVD's which will be locked to Region 1 won't be...unless you have a modded DVD player

It's the papaerback. The hardback has a black cover with red letters and was only made as a limited edition numbered to 1000 or whatever.

So yeah, it's way overpriced. Like i said, buy the book and blu-ray seperately. It'll cost maybe half that.

Ugh. Really?
So....the entire season (one of the better ones so far) is going to be represented on the store shelf by Darth Maul? A character who made an appearance in the last 2 episodes and that's it for the entire season?

Have the folks at Lucas Licensing visited any retail lately and noticed how Maul-packaged products are sagging on pegs, rotting on shelves and generally give the 10 year old feeling of "been there-left that"?

I was hoping Rex or Kenobi would have been featured on the DVD/BR packaging this time, seeing as both characters were highlighted in several episodes over the course of the season....but no, the good folks at LFL figure we need to be beaten over the head yet again with a character who's tepid appearance on the show and who's striking visage has been dulled by overexposure to the point of boredom.

Oh well....too bad. And Season Four of the show was really good too....

I don't think you can blame the card backs for the decline in sales. The repacks are killing that market. The lack in advertising and promotion as well. You cannot continue to recycle and not have it break down sooner or later.

In addition, executive producer Rick Berman looks back on the crucial pre-production period including preliminary casting choices and key creative decisions for year one. Plus, the documentary includes insight from the entire art department including Star Trek expert Mike Okuda – who, along with Denise Okuda, served as a consultant throughout the ongoing Blu-ray project – providing a revealing look at the design process for such iconic elements of the series as the Starship Enterprise and redesigned Starfleet gear for the 24th century.

Part two of the documentary, “Launch,” features all-new interviews with cast members Patrick Stewart (Captain Jean-Luc Picard), Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker), LeVar Burton (Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lt. With never-before-seen makeup and screen test footage of the cast, fans will have their first look at Burton and Spiner trying multiple versions of their iconic design elements such as the VISOR and Data’s makeup. Plus, the cast will walk viewers through their auditioning process, and share memories of the making of Encounter at Farpoint, the fan-favorite television movie that launched the series.

The conclusion of the three-part documentary, “The Continuing Mission,” includes first-hand accounts by Berman and producer David Livingston who detail the creation of the first season of the series from script to final edit. Members of the special effects teams also provide a never-before-seen look at the creation of the groundbreaking effects from motion control photography to video compositing techniques. Also, Denise Crosby (Lt. Tasha Yar) joins other cast members to take a look back on the controversial decision to kill off her character in the first season episode “Skin Of Evil.” Finally, Eugene Roddenberry shares memories of his father, series creator Gene Roddenberry, who was responsible for one of the most enduring and beloved franchises in history.

ENERGIZED: TAKING THE NEXT GENERATION TO THE NEXT LEVEL

You can check out all six images below, plus Ferguson's artwork for the box set-exclusive "The Phase One Archives" disc, and stay tuned to Marvel.com for more on "Marvel Cinematic Universe - Phase One: Avengers Assembled"!

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is yet to officially announce its highly anticipated Blu-ray release of David Lean's epic Lawrence of Arabia (1962), but the Los Angeles Times already has a preliminary date for it. The newspaper reported today that "the restored Lawrence of Arabia will have a nationwide theatrical release on Oct. 4, with a Blu-ray box set due Nov. 14."

Earlier this year the newly restored version of Lawrence of Arabia, featuring approximately 21 minutes of previously unreleased footage, was screened at the Classics section of the Cannes Film Festival.

Hopefully, US editions to follow.

Studio Canal have revealed that they are preparing Dual Format editions of Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro (1988) and Isao Takahata's Grave of the Fireflies (1988). The two editions will be available for purchase online and in shops across the United Kingdom on November 12th.

My Neighbor Totoro

Japanese animated feature from Studio Ghibli, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. When their mother is taken ill, two young girls move to the country with their father to spend more time with her while she recuperates. As they explore their surroundings, young Mei starts to believe that the nearby forest is inhabited by magical creatures. At first her sister Satsuki refuses to believe her, but before long the two girls are having magical adventures with the Tororos, the magical protectors of the forest.

Grave of the Fireflies

Based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Akiyuki Nosaka, this haunting Japanese anime tells the story of two children, 14-year-old Seita (Tsutomu Tatsumi) and his four-year-old sister Setsuko (Ayano Shiraishi), who are struggling to survive in 1940s war-torn Japan where bombings by American warplanes and napalm attacks are an almost daily occurrence. When their mother is killed in an air raid, and the fate of their Naval officer father remains unknown, the children are left to fend for themselves. After a brief and uncomfortable stay with a cold and distant aunt, who makes it clear that she doesn't want to be burdened with them, they run away and set up home in an abandoned bomb shelter. For a while they find some happiness living on their own with a field of almost magical fireflies to keep them company. But as the rationing of food grows more unbearable, Seita finds it an increasing struggle to keep himself and Setsuko alive.

Except that you don't have to sift through anything. All of the disc's cases are right next to the cube (visible as soon as you open the briefcase). If you want to eliminate the briefcase element as well, I'm sure you could always just take the disc cases out, place them on your Blu-Ray shelf, and just display the case as a prop replica. Bottom line is that this set is a really good deal for people like myself who have yet to purchase the MCU Blus. :lecture

Still doesn't change the fact that I already own all the BRs, would get bent when the chrome finish on the cheap plastic case begins to wear and the cheap light feature eventually burns out.
