Has anyone seen this issue yet? They said very soon and I wasn't sure if it would hit newstands today or next week. Magazines come in every day here.

Has not been released yet...probably next week or later...DURING the toyfair show. THe synopsis of the magazine is about Toyfair...so probably won't be out for a week or so.

If Indy will be revealed in Tomart's does that mean he won't go up for preorder during Toy Fair?

Nice find doesitmatter, I tried locating that last night online w/o success.

Looks great, face seems a little thick... but it is a smaller picture. But everything else so far looks stellar. And if its the Trevor sculpt I have no worries.

I absolutely HATE to be downbeat about this figure... but based on this one image alone I don't like it (and yes, I'm sure that will change when more images arrive online). The jacket looks too pleather and the face land paint sculpt look too much like Fedora, the guy at the beginning of Last Crusade who gives young Indy his hat. The head though might be a little on the large side but with that pose, it's hard to tell. And the jacket really needs to be dirtied up, I want it too look more like the Fedora.
But overall, great figure that I know I'll preorder on the spot!

I think he looks pretty incredible. The sculpt, the gloves, everything. I've picked up a few expensive custom Indys over the years and I can't believe how great this one looks and I'm sure it will be half the price.

As others have mentioned, we just need to dirty him up a bit... I'd love to find some fake cobwebs to mimic the look after the Peruvian temple.

It will be great to pick up two and combine one with the best of the custom pieces to kit bash and sort of an ultimate Indy.

Someone will have to do an extensive weathering tutorial because I for one am not sure how to even begin.

I'm really excited to see what else they bring to the line!

With their 1/6 Obi Wan and now this Indiana Jones, SideShow really seems to be hitting it out of the ballpark of late. I am not a huge fan of their body, but the fact that Indy will be fully clothed, hiding the body and those joints makes this figure all the more alluring. This just might be the first 1/6 SideShow figure I have purchased since the Master, which was years ago.

Keep up the excellent work SideShow! If the production pieces look anything like this picture, we're in for a kick-ass toy!

It's a beautiful sculpt, just something about the paint job looks a tad wrong - I think the stubble could do with being lighter, so it doesn't look so much like designer stubble.

Trevor, which photos did you use for reference? Did you use the one on the front of the Toys McCoy box and the one on the front of the Kenner box? I ask because they both show Ford with a neutral expression, like your sculpt.

If you've got time I'd love to hear more about what you aimed for with the sculpt, and how you came to do it like this instead of, say, 'sardonic smile Indy', 'panicking Indy' or 'determined Indy'.

And finally, the pants are too light!!!! Shouldn't they be browner?

I think the pants are fine. My only issue now is how the bag strap looks. It doesn't look like it even has a buckle. Anyway, it's just a prototype. Other than that ... :chew:chew:chew

Hey man! no problem. I don't mind explaining it.

This was actually the second attempt at Ford, my first was the Han Solo, so I was positive that it was going to be a painful sculpt. :) (I would sculpt Indy a hundred times over, though. My favorite character)

expression came mostly from the classic Raiders shots. the Peru ones directed expression more than any other. I don't have time to go fetch the photos right now, but there's one that's 3/4 view, very famous shot with a blurred jungle in the background.

I prefer Indy smiling/grinning/ looking a bit exhausted...but I felt Raiders Indy was expected to look serious, and I think the Sideshow guys agreed. There will be room to explore the other facets of his character later ;)

thanks!

I would think so because I think it will be the first Sideshow figure for a lot of people and you wouldn't want to make new potential customers upset about missing out on it especially since they might stick around and buy more Indy stuff later on.

Hey Trev, first off congrats on a fantastic sculpt. Just curious, do you have to do your own research or are you provided with all the references for whatever character you are commissioned for?

I'm provided with photos for a lot of projects. Indy wasn't one of them, unfortunately. I had to dig up all of my own stuff on that. I dunno if the licensor was holding back or what, I had collected hundreds of photos since I was an early teen, so I had a decent amount of stuff to study. the greatest aid for sculpture comes from dvd captures...and LOTS of 'em. :)

Trev

Hi Trev - thanks for taking the trouble to answer my questions. I too think the first SS Indy should look serious, but I would love to see some other expressions later - I love the murderous eyes and dangerous smile from the Cairo bar scene in Raiders after Marion dies. Once the classic Indy is done it would be great to see something a bit left field.

Last year when I was making my own Indy customs I relied heavily on screencaps from theraider.net. Speaking of which, I wouldn't want any sculpts to be quite as left field as this...
http://www.theraider.net/showimage.php?ImageUrl=http://www.theraider.net/films/todoom/gallery/dvdscreenshots/210.jpg

EDIT - I've just seen the high res version of the magazine cover, and I think I know why I'm not keen on the prototype paint apps. I looked at a load of Indy photos from Raiders and I think that it's not the stubble that's wrong it's the flesh tone - they're too light, whereas Indy in Raiders always had a very healthy tan. Does anyone else agree? Maybe (gulp) we need Indy to have the same kind of flesh colouring as the infamous suntanned Brosnan headsculpt.

The shirt buttons are the wrong color, they should be the same as the shirt. The shirt itself looks too white though that could be the lighting. The gasmask bag has no snaps, the leather strap is too thin and has no buckle. The web belt looks khaki Last Crusade colored and not Raiders brown. The turks head knot and loop on the whip are too small and the metal gun belt slider looks a bit large. But they included the pant pleats so that's good.

The jacket looks nice though a bit pleathery with thick pocket flaps. The hat has the distinctive Raiders turn though the brim looks perhaps a tad narrow.

But overall it looks like a very nice figure. Can't wait to order it and make it perfect. Yay gloved hands! :zzwhip

I agree the jacket is a bit iffy in that photo, but I've learned my lesson about pre-judging Sideshow's prototype's. I have faith in Trev's sculpt and given how great Old Ben and Bespin Luke came out. I can't wait to see how Sideshow continues to refine and develop the line.

The shirt bothers me a LOT more than the jacket which I think is pretty decent considering SS is trying to hit a certain price point. There is no reason the shirt should not be 100%.

I'm sure they chose that material for the bag strap so it would lay correctly, but it looks really bad and detracts from an otherwise steller figure.

Well judging from the pic even if a little work needs to be done this is still the best Indiana Jones 1:6 scale hands down. Looks really good to me, the hat looks to be the first that has captured the look and the correct type of bash, the gloved hands look awesome. I noticed the bag strap is on the outside of the jacket though. Finally after years of customizing figures starting with and because of the lack of a decent Indy the circle is almost complete.
Here's hoping for a Well of Souls Marion to pose with him......actually I don't care, I'll buy any Indy figs if they are anywhere near the quality of this guy. Maybe we should start turning the heat up in here to see if we can get any hints on the next figure in this line? Or sculpts that may be in progress? :naughty

I think alot of the issues with the jacket and outfit can be fixed with some aging and distressing. I have my own Indy clothes I wear and remember when I first got them they didn't look right, until I made them look worn and beat up. The clothes on the figure look too prestine, Indy was never seen in anything that didn't have the heck beat out of it. Maybe the crown on the hat could be a bit taller.

Agreed. I just want them to fix the minor mistakes to make as accurate an Indy figure as possible.

The Indy hat look is all in the turn. The Raiders hat was bashed with about a 2" or more turn of the hat, that is not pointing forward when the creases are added. This gives the front and side brim curls the distinctive asymmetrical look. The other 3 films, including KotCS, do not have the turn (each has other differences such as a reverse taper), though the new film does return to the same look and bash of the Raiders hat. :rock

And yes it could do with a taller crown. This crown is a bit shorter like the Last Crusade look.

100% agreed. A little proper weathering (dirt, stains, scuffs, etc) and this thing will be PERFECT. And I don't mind having to do that myself custom, either. I'll be buying at least two of these.

And with the notion of the other versions to come....I am now in a quandry. Dammit! I've been able to focus on ALIENS and PREDATORS only for so long...and now, with the pressures of the new movie, and this line....I have to admit...it almost hurts!

The shirt bothers me too. I could live with the buttons being the wrong color, but the shirt is too white. Several places make an Indy shirt and they are all cream or off-white. It just doesn't look right. But, I'm sure Sideshow will fix that before it is in our hands.

No, I'm bothered by the shirt, and in general there's a few things about it that don't look quite right - so I hope they improve upon them in the final product. Thanks for your detailed examination of the photo.

Plus, I don't want to do my own weathering! I want to buy a figure that already looks perfect!

I'm not whining or hating, I love the figure already, I just want it to be the greatest figure of all time. By the way, am I alone in thinking that the skin colour ont he face could do with being darker to suggest a tan? At the moment Indy looks like he works indoors all the time!

HIGH RES: http://www.sideshowtoy.com/prodblog/afd_163.jpg

The coat looks too pleathery. Probably needs to be weathered.

They have to change the strap for the bag. It's too fragile for something like that. Never liked when they used something like that for Aragorn's belt and Faramir's quiver. Plus it feels cheap.

Whip is nice and probably bendable. But I know I wasn't the only one hoping for a 'real' one. Maybe it does come with one.

Everything else looks really nice. And hopefully they change certain things for accuracy (if what I've read is correct). I don't know Indy's clothing in full detail.

The prototype looked okay at SDCC last year, but it's still clearly a $20 mass-market piece.

And I disagree about the jacket. Though SSC's (on the proto anyway) is too clean and too smooth that can be easily fixed with some weathering. The Hasbro jacket appears to be too heavy and doesn't sit right, which is key because the "water treatment" won't work on pleather or leather.

Fuller's Earth is the answer. For those that don't know fuller's earth is basically a movie make up used for weathering and dirtying up clothes for movie scenes. I've used a sand / light dirt colored fuller's earth for my Indy outfit for halloween for a few years and for any figure aging and it works great. The Sideshow Indy fig would look almost perfect with a light dusting of it on the jacket and hat especially.

I've been looking since we saw the cover. Nothing yet. What days (Tuesdays?) do new magazines come out? So I don't think it is out yet.

I'm going to tell you guys how good Indy looks. My brother is the ultimate Sideshow crtic. He thought Palpatine and Old Ben didn't even look like the actors. ( I know)

Holy ****. Did you kick his ass?

I would, but he would end up kicking mine. And, ironically, he is my younger brother :lol

But don't worry, I rag him about all of the cars he likes.

So Wednesday is the day of new magazines?
